CanBel: Designated Extrovert

Matthew sighed, looking around. He shuffled uncomfortably, seeing the bodies jumping around. He didn't understand why people considered this to be enjoyable.

His brother had dragged him to a party, but he couldn't see the reason why. As soon as they arrived, Alfred ditched him. Matthew didn't know anyone, other than his brother. He wasn't someone that enjoyed dancing at parties, and he wasn't particularly fond of alcohol.

Matthew shuffled around, going towards the wall. The lights were too dim, and the music too loud. He was trying to figure out where his brother was. He wasn't there for too long, but he already wanted to go home.

He jumped slightly when someone sidled up next to him, smiling brightly.

"Hi there," she said. "Glad you could make it. I'll be your designated extrovert for the evening. So please, if you'd follow me."

Matthew was confused, and she started to pull him along. She led him to a quieter part of the house.

"Sorry about that," she said. "My name's Bella. You looked as though you needed help."

"Uh, thanks," he said. "My name's Matthew. My brother dragged me to this party."

"And then he ditched you?"

"Yeah…"

She shook her head, a small smile on her face.

"Some people can be quite inconsiderate," she said. "He should have known better. You seem like you would rather be anywhere else."

"Yeah…" he said. "You probably think I'm some kind of loser."

"No, of course not," Bella said. "Everyone has their own interests. And these parties aren't for everyone."

He smiled slightly, before looking around.

"You probably have friends looking for you," he said. "You shouldn't waste your time with me."

"Oh, I'm not," she said. "I came to this party to flirt with some cute guys. And you're pretty cute. Plus, you don't seem like one of those jerks."

Matthew blushed at her saying that he was cute. She giggled, seeing the expression on his face.

"So, Matthew," she said, "what would you be doing if you weren't at this party?"

"Um…" he stuttered. "I think… I'd rather be reading a book or watching a movie. Pretty boring, right?"

"I don't think so," she said, smirking. "I don't think a movie date would be boring. Cuddling on the couch together with the lights dim…"

Matthew's blush darkened, and she giggled.

"You're quite cute," she said. "And so fun to tease."

To Matthew's surprise, he and Bella continued to chat throughout the evening. She was good company, and she actually wanted to talk to Matthew.

"You know," she said after a while, "I hate to think that this would be the last time we'd see each other. So, give me your phone."

Matthew did so, and he watched her type in her number, before giving herself a call and saving his number on her phone.

"I hope you'd text me some time," she said. "And I'd like to watch a movie while snuggling on the couch."

Matthew blushed, and Bella waved at him before wandering off. He glanced at the phone, seeing what time it was. He was surprised to see the lateness of the hour, and he set out to find his brother.

He thought that he would like to spend some time with Bella again.

The prompt is: 'Person A shuffles nervously around a party. Person B startles them with a,"Hello, glad you could make it. I'll be your designated extrovert for the evening if you could please follow me."'

As an introvert, I would appreciate someone doing this at a party.
