Egyprus: Talk About It
"Could you two please stop fighting?" Cyprus asked, almost tearfully.
He watched as Greece and Turkey continued to fight, oblivious to Cyprus's distress. What made it even more harrowing was the fact that the two of them were fighting about Cyprus himself, specifically who he should spend time with. Cyprus had tried to argue that he wasn't a child, and that he could choose for himself who he wished to be around with. But they didn't spare him another glance as they fell into their argument.
Other nations were just watching the display, while others were passing them by without another glance. Cyprus wondered if he was the only one that cared about it.
Cyprus bit his lip, before he spun around and stormed off. It was obvious to him that he was the only one that cared. He needed to get away before he said or did something that he would end up regretting.
He felt someone grab his arm, and he spun around in alarm, seeing the shorter nation staring at him with mint green eyes.
"Are you alright?" Egypt asked.
Cyprus was a bit surprised that Egypt had spoken to him. Although Egypt could be quite talkative once he got in the mood, he generally avoided idle conversation. Especially whenever it came to the subject of Greece and Turkey. Cyprus suspected that Egypt was as sick of it as he was.
Cyprus didn't answer, instead looking towards the two fighting nations. Egypt nodded his head, and sighed.
"Come with me," Egypt said.
Once again, Cyprus was surprised, but he followed after Egypt. The latter led him to an empty office, and they sat down on one side of the desk.
"I often come to an empty office for lunch," Egypt said. "That way, I avoid the general crowds. You look as though you need someone to talk to."
"What makes you say that?" Cyprus asked.
"I can see the tears in your eyes."
Cyprus blinked, before he felt the moisture escape his right eye. He quickly wiped it away.
"It's not just the fact that they're fighting again that's bothering you," Egypt said. "There's something else that bothers you."
Egypt had taken out a lunchbox, and Cyprus was surprised when Egypt offered him one of the sandwiches. He took the sandwich with a small smile, before he sighed.
"Nothing has changed," Cyprus said. "Other nations still think that they can control me. It doesn't matter to them that I'm an independent nation. They still think I'm their territory."
"Did one of them try to order you around?" Egypt asked.
"They tried to tell me who to spend my time with. They got mad because they each forbade me from interacting with the other, and they didn't even listen to me when I told them that it's my choice. I can't even exchange one sentence with my own brother because of those two."
Egypt was patiently listening to Cyprus, and when he was done, Egypt sighed.
"The two of them are stubborn, and they are constantly looking for an excuse to fight with each other," Egypt said. "It's because they're too similar. But they must understand that they cannot control you."
"And how do I do that?" Cyprus asked.
"Avoid them, for now," Egypt said. "If you need companionship, you're free to come to me. They wouldn't be able to find a reason to pick a fight with each other, at least not if it involves you. Once they got used to the idea that you spend time with other people, they will back down and you're free to associate with them again."
"And if that doesn't work?"
"You can always play the I'm-sick-of-your-game-of-tug-of-war card."
Cyprus burst into laughter, and Egypt smiled as well.
"I think you might be right," Cyprus said. "Thanks Egypt."
"Feel free to call me Gupta."
The prompt is: 'Cyprus has problems with Turkey and Greece and goes to Egypt to talk about it.'
