RusAus: Nutcracker

Roderich was surprised when Ivan Braginski asked him out on a date, and was even more surprised when he invited him to watch the new Nutcracker movie with him. He probably thought that, since Roderich enjoyed that type of music, he would enjoy it.

…Well, he was only going for the music.

However, during the film, Roderich noticed a few times that Ivan was humming along with the music. He would have complained, but the Russian didn't have a bad voice.

And he found himself enjoying the film. He knew the basic story about the Nutcracker, and liked the direction in which they took it. Ivan, on the other hand, seemed just a little disappointed.

Afterwards they went to a restaurant, where they discussed the movie.

"I preferred the old version," Ivan lamented.

"There aren't that many movies about the Nutcracker," Roderich said, "so I don't see…"

"Not movies. Ballet."

Roderich was surprised, and leaned forward.

"Come again?" he asked.

"I enjoyed the ballet," Ivan said. "In fact, whenever I hear there's a performance, I buy tickets. It's my favourite ballet."

Roderich blinked in surprise. That explained why Ivan could hum along with the songs. He wouldn't have figured Ivan for being a lover of the ballet.

"My favourite part was the music," Roderich said.

Ivan perked up.

"Da," he said. "I enjoyed the music immensely. It's at least something that's the same."

Roderich chuckled. Perhaps next time, Ivan should take him to a ballet.

So, we watched The Nutcracker and the Four Realms the other day. At one point I whispered to my sister that at least we can appreciate the music, and she responded back that the music's the only reason why she's watching the movie. She went total fangirl when she saw a CD of Tchaikovsky at the store, which included the Nutcracker Suite. And my Christmas idea is ruined because her boyfriend bought and gave it to her. She was a little disappointed to hear that I watched the ballet when she didn't (I was about seven, she was three).
