EngLux: Perfect Gift
Arthur huffed, just a little bit annoyed. It was his birthday, but it didn't seem as though his boyfriend remembered it. And he knew that Henri was rich (which was not a selling point – Arthur had discovered that little titbit long after they had started dating), which meant that a gift wouldn't have been unreasonable, even if it was just a coupon from his favourite bookstore. He didn't even get a simple 'happy birthday'.
Speaking of which…
Henri had insisted that they come to the mall, and Arthur didn't mind too much because his favourite bookstore was there. But knowing Henri and his love for shopping, there wouldn't be any time to stop there.
Which was why Arthur was surprised when that was exactly what they were doing.
"So, Arthur," Henri said, "you didn't think that I forgot, did you?"
At Arthur's confused look, Henri chuckled.
"The truth is, I couldn't decide what to get you for your birthday," Henri said. "I know you like books, and I know this is your favourite store. But I have no idea what you have and don't have. So… Your gift from me is free reign. You can have as many books as you want."
Arthur's eyes widened, and he looked around at the store, his eyes lighting up in excitement. Henri chuckled, before giving him a hug.
"Happy birthday, Liebeling," Henri said.
This is pretty much what my sister and I would love to hear. She tried to convince my dad to go to a mall during Black Friday to get to Bargain Books and Exclusive Books. She first suggested to go to the closest mall with one of these stores, before suggesting the other mall because it has both. One of her arguments is that no one will bother with the books (sad, but true). Luckily, Black Friday here isn't just Friday (I think the stores learned that it's too dangerous to have it just for one day), and my sister and dad went to Outdoor Safari, but dragged me along to the mall. My dad said I have full reign of the mall while they're there. I immediately found the Bargain Books and went through pretty much everything by the time they arrived. I left with three books (which was all I managed to get out of him).
