SlovNor: Injury

Lukas flinched when he heard something shatter. Concerned, he made his way towards the hallway, where a few short steps connected one half of the house to the other. He found Samuel at the bottom of the stairs, pushing himself up. He was surrounded by broken plates.

"What happened?" Lukas demanded.

"I tripped," Samuel said, before he hissed in pain.

The Slovak's hand went to his chest, and Lukas widened his eyes when he saw that there was a shard imbedded in his chest. And when he looked further, he could see a few others in his abdomen.

"You're hurt," Lukas said, approaching Samuel.

Samuel looked down at his front and whimpered when he saw the shards. Lukas helped him up and started leading him to the bathroom.

"We need to get those tended to," Lukas said.

Samuel said nothing as Lukas seated him on the toilet, searching for the first-aid kit. Lukas hesitated, before he inspected the largest shard in his chest.

"Let's hope this isn't too deep," Lukas said, before he touched it.

Samuel hissed, and Lukas immediately let it go.

"Can you tell if it's deep of not?" Lukas asked.

"Not too deep," Samuel hissed. "Still hurts."

Lukas nodded, before he started pulling out the shard. Samuel was right about it not being too deep, but it still bled. Lukas quickly worked on pulling out the other shards before he pulled off Samuel's shirt.

Samuel sat in silence, watching as Lukas started patching up the wounds. He hissed at the rubbing alcohol, and Lukas gave him an apologetic look.

Lukas could see that his hands were shaking. If those shards had only been deeper…

"You know, it's a shame," Samuel said. "Those were nice plates."

"I don't care about the plates!" Lukas snapped, fixing Samuel with a look. He could feel his eyes sting. "If they had been just a centimetre or two deeper… They could have pierced your lungs. Just be thankful that there wasn't one so close to your heart."

Samuel sat in stunned silence. He'd never seen Lukas so emotional. And the fact that it was because he got hurt… He was both happy that Lukas showed so much concern for him and guilty that he was the reason why Lukas was so upset.

"What were you doing, anyway?" Lukas asked, returning to his work, ears tinted pink after his outburst.

"My sister's moving out of her boyfriend's place," Samuel explained. "Um, ex-boyfriend. She doesn't have any plates, so I thought that I could lend her a few of ours until she managed to get some."

"And she couldn't buy anything?"

"Between the rent and furniture and everything else… I just wanted to wash them first, since they've been in the cabinet for a long time."

Lukas sighed.

"We'll see what we can do later," he said.

The prompt is: 'Person A, the more stoic/serious of the two, treating a severe injury Person B sustained. Person B notices A's hands shaking and tries to crack a joke, which only serves to send Person A bursting into tears over nearly losing B.'

Our house is built on this huge underground boulder that couldn't be removed (and made water drainage a huge problem), and one half of the house is on an upper level while the other half is a lower level. It's only four steps. So, the two of them have the same kind of house.

And for this type of injury, I'd recommend seeing a trained professional.
