Czetralia: Wink

Clara was walking through the school hall when she saw Jett up ahead, laughing and joking with his friends. Clara felt her heart stop. She didn't know what it was about him, but the Australian was someone she just couldn't get out of her mind.

Of course, there was no way for her to get his attention. He was popular, and she was the strange girl from Eastern Europe. He would never be interested in someone like her.

Her breath hitched when she saw him walk away from his friends, heading towards her direction. She wondered… In her former school, one of her teachers had given them all a little tip to attract a boy's attention. She guaranteed that it would give you a boyfriend within a week.

Taking a deep breath, she started walking, knowing that they would pass each other. He glanced in her direction, and she seized her moment.

She winked.

And just like that, the moment had passed. She wanted to look behind her to see if it had any effect, but she was too scared. There was a chance that she had royally embarrassed herself. She would rather not see that.

Jett stared at the girl in surprise. She looked familiar, but he'd never spoken to her. So why would she…?

No, it was just his imagination. She couldn't have been winking at him. She was just blinking. She had something in her eye. That was it. She couldn't have been winking. And besides, why would she be winking?

He watched her walk away. He wanted to ask, but if she had only been blinking, then he would look like a fool. Best to forget about the whole thing.

But no matter how much he tried to forget, he couldn't get the girl out of his mind.

He managed to learn a bit about her.

He found out that her name was Clara Jandová, a transfer student from the Czech Republic. From what he could tell, she didn't have any friends yet, which was odd, considering she was pretty cute. She appeared to be a little bossy, but Jett had no problem with it. Actually, he liked girls who knew what they wanted without being shallow or stuck-up.

The more he learned about her, the more he liked her, and he soon realised that he was developing a crush. Stupid!

But… Perhaps she was interested in him as well. That must have been what the wink was for, right?

Clara packed up her things. The last bell of Friday had rung, and like the others, she just wanted to go home.

"Hey. Clara, is it?"

Startled, she looked up, and her eyes widened when she saw Jett standing there.

"Ano… I mean, yes," Clara said.

Jett smiled.

"Would you like to walk home together?" he asked.

Clara beamed in joy.

My Consumer Studies teacher gave us a little tip for if we ever want a boyfriend: when passing a boy, simply wink. He'll keep wondering about the meaning behind it, and his thoughts would be filled with you. Soon enough, you'll have a boyfriend. I've never tried it out, but I can see the logic behind it.
