HongLiech: Unexpected Rescue

Leon was abruptly woken by the sound of someone hammering on his door. He groaned, trying to ignore whoever was there. It was too early for something like this.

"Help! Please!"

That got him sitting up. Someone needed help. It was a closed apartment complex, so it had to be one of his neighbours. Something happened. And it was a girl screaming for help.

Leon scrambled out of the bed, rushing towards his door. He heard hammering at the door next door, and he quickly opened the door, looking towards the direction.

He saw a blond girl in a pink nightgown, but he also noticed that her hands were tied behind her back. The hammering was because she had to use her foot. She must have heard him open the door, for she turned fearful eyes in his direction and started rushing towards his apartment.

"Thank you," she said breathlessly. "Please, help me!"

He nodded his head, and he quickly invited her inside, leaving the door open. He first tried to untie the cables that had been used to bind her, and when he saw that it wasn't easy, he quickly rushed to get a pair of scissors.

"What happened?" he asked.

"Th-they b-broke into m-my apartment," she stuttered. "Th-they t-tied m-me u-up a-and… They t-took my c-computer. Th-they took m-my phone. Th-they took m-my speakers, b-but used the c-cables t-to t-tie me."

He nodded along as he cut the cables. They had already been cut, and so they were useless now.

Some of the other residents had heard the commotion, and came to investigate. When they heard what had happened, one of them immediately went to grab his phone in order to call the police. Leon offered his own phone to allow the girl – Lili – to call her family. He idly listened as she explained the situation to her brother while he was mixing sugar and water, something that one of the other residents suggested.

He quickly returned to his bedroom, retrieving ointment and a jacket. He indicated the jacket, and she gratefully accepted. And when he indicated the ointment, she nodded her head again as she allowed him to apply ointment to her chafed wrists.

"The police are on their way," one of them, a German who apparently worked as a bouncer, announced.

"Thank you," Lili breathed.

She stayed in Leon's apartment as they waited for the police and her family to arrive. Leon left her well enough alone, but he kept checking up on her to make sure that she's fine.

She jumped when someone knocked on the door, and Leon quickly moved to answer it. The man on the other side was obviously Lili's brother, for they had a strong resemblance to each other.

"Is Lili here?" the older male asked.

"Vash!" Lili exclaimed, rushing over towards him.

The older brother wrapped the younger sister in a hug, and he turned his gaze to Leon. He nodded, silently thanking Leon for his help, before he guided Lili away.

Asides from a police statement the next day, Leon thought it was the end of it, but then there was a knock on his door later the week. When he opened it, he was surprised to see Lili.

"Hello," she said. "Are you well?"

"I should be asking you that," Leon said. "How are you?"

Lili shrugged.

"I'm doing better," she said. "I'm moving to a new complex. I came by to give you these as thanks."

She held out a box of chocolates, which Leon accepted. She had a blush on her face.

"Um, you're a student at the university, right?" she asked.

"Yeah," Leon said. "Pharmacy."

"Humanities. I guess I'll see if I can see you on campus."

She smiled one last time, before she left. Leon stared after her. It wouldn't be so bad, actually.

So, this is based on something that happened in my second year of university. I was in Hong Kong's position when one of my neighbours was robbed. I tried to help as much as possible, and a week later the girl came to thank me with chocolates. She ended up moving away. I might have seen her a few more times on campus, but the place is huge, and I think she was in her final year.
