GerInd: Misunderstanding

"I'm just going to get a drink, okay?" Raj said.

Ludwig nodded his head, before he turned to continue his conversation with his colleague. Raj rolled his eyes, before he left his boyfriend to it. He went to the drink table, where a large crowd had gathered, and tried to find a glass and something suitable.

"So, when do you think Ludwig's going to ask him?" a familiar voice asked.

Raj froze when he heard that voice. He recognised the voice of Francis Bonnefoy, who was good friends with Ludwig's brother, Gilbert Beilschmidt.

"No idea," Gilbert said. "But you know West. He's useless when it comes to expressing his feelings."

"Well, it is a huge commitment," Antonio, another one of Gilbert's friends, remarked. "Does your brother at least have a plan?"

"Knowing West, he planned everything out," Gilbert said. "Still, he doesn't have a lot of experience with getting his romantic plans to work out."

"I guess it's a good thing that Raj is so patient," Francis said.

Raj noticed the three friends departing through the crowd, and a part of him wanted to follow them, while another part was afraid to. Did… Did they really talk about what Raj thought they talked about?

Raj was in a daze as he returned to where Ludwig was still conversing with his colleague. Could… Could Ludwig be planning to propose to him? And… what would Raj say?

It was already late in the night, and Ludwig was snoring away, but Raj just couldn't get to sleep. Was… Was Ludwig seriously going to ask him to marry him?

It was too soon. They only moved in together about a month ago. Were they really ready for the next step? Was Raj?

Raj loved Ludwig. That wasn't a lie. But, did he love Ludwig enough? Was he ready to spend the rest of his life with the German?

Days had passed since the party, and Raj had barely gotten any sleep. He was so stressed about it, and the longer they went without Ludwig bringing up the subject, the more stressed Raj got.

But, he wondered if now was the time. They were on a dinner date at a restaurant, and Raj had watched enough romance movies to know how things would go.

"Raj," Ludwig suddenly said. "There's something that I've been meaning to ask you."

Raj swallowed nervously, before forcing a smile on his face.

"Sure," he said. "What is it?"

"…Perhaps it would be easier if I just… show you," Ludwig said.

He pushed a box towards Raj, but it didn't look like the type of box in which a ring would be found. Still, he'd heard of a lot of creative ways in which the ring was presented. Raj carefully opened the box, and blinked when he saw what was contained. Was this…?

"A dog collar?" he asked.

"Ja," Ludwig said. "I was… thinking of getting a puppy. Are… Are you alright with that?"

Raj's mind flashed back to the conversation he overheard. A commitment…

He couldn't help it. He burst out laughing. And when he saw the alarmed look on Ludwig's face, he only laughed harder.

"I'm sorry," he said after a while. "It's just… Yes. I'd like to get a puppy with you."

He didn't feel that they were ready for marriage, but a puppy was something that they could get.

"So, do you have one in mind yet?" Raj asked.

"Ja," Ludwig said, trying to ignore what had happened earlier. "A friend of mine breeds German Shepherds, and recently they had puppies."

Raj nodded. He shouldn't have been surprised.

The second Charlie's Angels movie with Cameron Diaz kept playing through my mind, including the subplot of Cameron Diaz's character and her boyfriend, and I decided to use that for this chapter.
