CuViet: Migraine
Carlos looked up when the door opened. He saw Lien stumbling inside, looking far too pale to be healthy. He put the newspaper aside and approached her as she shut the door.
"What's wrong?" he asked. "Are you okay?"
"Just a migraine," Lien muttered. "I already got something from the pharmacist, so I'm going to go lie down for a bit. Do you think you can handle dinner?"
"I'll go to the store right now to see if I can get something. Need anything?"
"For this nightmare to end."
Carlos didn't know much about migraines, only that it was an intense headache. And that his father always made it a point to steer clear of his mother on the rare occasions when she got a migraine. He grabbed his car keys, plans already forming in his mind on how he could help the woman he loved.
…
Lien woke up a while later. The pain was gone, but she felt as though her soul had been drained. She also felt hungry and thirsty, and would like to get something to satisfy both needs.
She came to a stop when she reached the kitchen, her eyes widening. Carlos was at the stove, cooking. She'd never seen him cook before. As though sensing her presence, he turned towards her and smiled.
"How are you feeling?" Carlos asked.
"Better," she said. "A little tired. What's all this?"
"I thought I'd cheer you up," he explained. "I'm making paella. I also bought you some nice bubble bath and bath salts."
Her eyes widened, before she smiled. She walked over towards him and kissed him on the cheek.
"You're so sweet," she said. "Thank you."
I just thought of this while recovering from a migraine. I'm actually considering going to the doctor for the migraines. They're starting to come more frequently.
