GerWales: Bookending

"Is there anything in particular that you're looking for?" Ludwig asked.

"Yeah," Dylan replied. "The Mad Women's Ball. It's apparently a prize-winning debut novel. I want to check it out."

They were in a bookstore, and Dylan made a beeline for where the new books were. Ludwig wandered over towards the top books, and he immediately saw the one that Dylan was looking for. Instead of calling for the Welshman, though, Ludwig pressed his hand into his pocket, relieved to note that the paper was still pristine. He slipped the piece of paper inside the book, making sure that it would be noticeable.

"Dylan, I found it," Ludwig called out.

Dylan hurried over, and he smiled when he saw the book. He picked it up and noticed the paper sticking out. He pulled it out and read it.

Ludwig's hand went to his other pocket, closing around the small box he held there. He thought about the words he'd written, and tried to fight off the blush.

You make me so happy, and I would like to keep that happiness close. Dylan, will you marry me?

Dylan turned to Ludwig, his eyes wide and cheeks pink. Ludwig removed the box and opened it.

"What do you say?" Ludwig asked.

"Y-yes!" Dylan said, before his face broke out in a grin. "Yes! Of course."

Ludwig smiled before he slipped the ring onto Dylan's finger. If not for one of his dogs ramming into his knee the previous day, he would have gone down and done it properly, but he knew that Dylan would understand.

My sister's going to be mad at me, but this is how her boyfriend proposed to her. He slipped a note in a book at the bookstore. My dog also recently collided with my leg, so that was my reason for not letting Ludwig go down on one knee (and I think he would be too embarrassed). And The Mad Women's Ball was a book I recently bought, and when I saw it was originally French I tried to see if they could order the French version. Nope. It's really not easy to get French media in South Africa.
