GerAus: Workout Trouble
"Ludwig, I really don't think this is necessary," Roderich huffed, his body protesting.
"You need to get exercise," Ludwig said firmly, picking up a pair of weights. "Here. 4 kg should be alright for you."
Roderich pouted as he accepted the weights. He couldn't understand what Ludwig was talking about. They were rather heavy. He followed Ludwig's lead as the taller German led him through something called a 'bicep curl'.
His palms were sweaty, and as he tried to lower his hands, one of them slipped, dropping the weight. Before Roderich could register it, pain erupted from his foot. He cried out and Ludwig immediately put down his own weights and dropped to the ground.
"Are you alright?" Ludwig asked, hands hovering over Roderich's foot.
Roderich had dropped the other weight at his side, his foot instinctively raising in order to alleviate the pain. He couldn't answer Ludwig. It took all his willpower not to throw up. Ludwig stood up and threw his arm around Roderich, his hand under the armpit. Roderich limped as Ludwig guided him to a nearby chair.
"I'm going to take your shoe off," Ludwig said. "Just hang on, alright?"
Roderich barely heard him. His back arched as Ludwig tried to carefully remove his shoe, a pained cry escaping from his mouth. He jerked when Ludwig touched one of his toes.
"Does that hurt?" Ludwig asked.
"Of course it hurts!" Roderich snapped. "It feels like you just tried to rip my foot off."
Ludwig sighed.
"I think we need to go to the hospital," he said. "There's a chance that you might have broken something."
Roderich grimaced at the thought.
…
"Hopefully you're not going to make me exercise again," Roderich snapped, his foot raised on several pillows, the cast feeling heavy.
"You need your exercise," Ludwig said. "But… I think we should adjust it a bit. Make it a bit easier."
Roderich huffed. It would have been nice if Ludwig thought of that earlier.
Often when I'm exercising, this is a fear I have when working with weights, especially since I exercise barefoot at home. And no matter how light the weights are, drop them from high enough and they will hurt. And while I haven't dropped them yet, I did stub my toe against them a few times. So yeah, I'm careful when I exercise.
