IndBul: Shackled

Dimitri was held tightly against a strong chest as they danced. He wanted to run away, but he was held too tightly, and he knew that it would only end up badly for him if he tried to pull away.

"Did you really think you'd be able to escape me?" the other person whispered as his hold tightened.

Dimitri's eyes were clenched as he fought his tears. He just wanted to be free. Why couldn't he be?

"Dimitri!"

His eyes snapped open, and he looked into the beautiful golden orbs that helped him forget the things of his past. Raj sighed, before pressing their foreheads together.

"Don't worry," Raj whispered. "You're safe. I won't let him hurt you ever again."

Dimitri sobbed before hugging Raj. He believed that Raj would truly try to protect him. But even after two years, he just couldn't escape from what that man had done to him. He wondered if he could ever be free.

Raj started to hum a lullaby, and Dimitri just clung tighter to him. He hated the fact that he put Raj through this, but he was grateful for the help. When the lullaby ended and Dimitri had calmed down, Raj placed a kiss on his forehead.

"Do you want some tea?" Raj asked.

Dimitri knew that he wouldn't be able to fall asleep anytime soon, and so he nodded his head. He allowed Raj to gently help him out of the bed, and Dimitri was allowed to lead the way. Just that bit of kindness made Dimitri appreciate Raj even more.

While trying to think of something for a chapter, I found myself searching for something angsty. The dance and the dream came from a novel that I'm working on, where the main character is recovering after an emotionally abusive relationship. Basically, the dream represents how the abuser controlled everything about the victim's life (leading them in a dance) and didn't allow the victim even the smallest bit of freedom (the tight grip while dancing). I liked that metaphor.

As for the abuser in Bulgaria's past, the image kept flashing between Russia and Turkey, so feel free to imagine whoever you want.
