GerFin: The Holiday Spirit

When Ludwig returned home from a long day of work, he was ready to just go soak in a hot bath and read a good book. He was not prepared to see the door decorated to the point where he could barely see the wood. He stared at the door for a moment before he opened it, and a sweet scent washed over him, along with the sound of Christmas music.

He wandered towards the kitchen, where he saw Tino with the cookie cutter and dough, and a quick glance towards the oven revealed that this wasn't the first batch that Tino was working on. Tino was also humming along with the Christmas music.

Ludwig cleared his throat, and Tino looked up. He was startled for a moment before he beamed when he saw Ludwig.

"Oh, I didn't hear you come home," Tino said. "How was your day?"

"It was fine," Ludwig said, glancing behind him and seeing that the door wasn't the only victim of the decoration frenzy. "I don't remember you being like this with Halloween."

"But I love Christmas. It's always been my favourite holiday. Buying gifts for people, decorating, baking treats, spending time with friends with family… I absolutely love it."

"I see. You are aware that there are still three weeks left, right?"

"I know. But you can never be too early for Christmas!"

Ludwig bit back the remark that, yes, there was a way too be too early for Christmas. But he decided that he wouldn't argue with Tino. He looked towards the oven and sighed.

"I'm going to take a bath," Ludwig said.

"Okay," Tino chirped, placing a bunch of his cookies onto another pan. "Enjoy."

For the next three weeks, Tino made it very clear that he enjoyed the Christmas holiday. Ludwig didn't think that there was any tradition that Tino had neglected. And a week before Christmas, Ludwig also embraced the spirit.

Ludwig demonstrated that he was familiar with many different gingerbread recipes, and they made everything, from cookies to men to houses, and he and Tino spent a lot of time together decorating the gingerbread.

All of this culminated to the evening of the 24th, where they were sitting in front of the TV, watching movies and waiting for midnight where they would exchange gifts with each other.

"This is great," Tino said. "The best Christmas so far, I'd think."

Ludwig smiled, before he placed a kiss on Tino's head.

"I'm glad you're happy," Ludwig said.

"It would be nice if there was a kid to watch open the gifts," Tino said. "Do you think we can adopt?"

Ludwig winced.

"I think we should discuss this at a later date," Ludwig said.

They were going to spend the next day with their friends and family, but for now, they had a bit of time to themselves, and they would enjoy their time together.

So, this chapter incorporates the following prompt to a degree: 'This is the first year person A and B are living together and it's only when B comes home one day, do they see that Christmas is A's favourite holiday, as they got all the decorations put up.'

And, of course, one can't have a Christmas prompt without Finland.

Well, happy holidays, everyone.
