"Are you serious?!"
Arthur looked up from his embroidery to see Chio staring furiously at the book. Arthur bit back his smirk as he watched Chio's eyes scan the page again before he lowered the book.
"I take it you reached the ending?" Arthur asked.
"That's… I feel cheated!" Chio said. "The suspense, the tension, the… the poison and then… the… Argh!" Chio clutched his head. "This is cheating. This is absolutely cheating."
Arthur smiled as he retrieved the book. Chio glared at him.
"You are absolutely evil," he said.
"Well, you have to admit that the story was very gripping," Arthur said.
Chio glared at him, but he didn't argue. Arthur wondered if he could convince Chio to read a different story.
So, I have this complete collection of Arthur Conan Doyle's works, and there was this one story… I gave it to my mom to read, and this was basically her reaction. She did not appreciate the plot twist at the end, and felt a bit cheated. She had a bit of a rant when she was finished, much to the amusement of my father and I. If you're interested, the story's name is The Nightmare Room.
