HunIta: Something You Love
"Now class, for your homework, you need to make a drawing of something you love," the art teacher said. "You will be graded on realism and techniques used. Use shading, contrast, and texture. You can use colour, but it is not a requirement. A good black-and-white drawing can be just as impactful."
The bell rang soon afterwards, and the class packed up. Feliciano hummed, trying to think of what he would draw.
"We already know Feliciano's going to draw a plate of pasta," Ludwig said. "Just remember to draw it before you eat it."
"Oh, that's okay," Feliciano said. "I can draw it from memory. That way, the pasta won't get cold while I draw it."
Kiku chuckled.
"I think he has you there," Kiku said.
"It must be nice," Ludwig sighed. "I wish I have the talent to be able to draw like that."
"Ve, it's not talent," Feliciano said. "It's skill. And anyone can improve a skill. You just need to practise."
"So, does that mean you'll be joining me on my jog this afternoon? After all, we need to get you fit. You just need to practise."
"Oh, there's Elizaveta. I need to talk to her about a borrowed book."
Feliciano ran over to Elizaveta and threw his arm around her shoulders.
"I told Ludwig that I need to talk to you about a book," Feliciano muttered.
"Is he trying to get you to exercise with him again?" Elizaveta asked while giggling.
"Si. It's horrible."
"Well then, want to walk with me? We can pretend to talk about that book."
"Si! I would enjoy that."
Elizaveta smiled, and Feliciano felt his heart skip a beat.
"So, what do you think you're going to draw for that homework assignment?" Elizaveta asked.
"Ludwig suggested a plate of pasta," Feliciano said.
"Well, that would certainly be typical of you. But, what about your brothers, or your grandpa?"
"We aren't supposed to draw people."
"Did she specifically say we can't draw people? I mean, someone you love should be good enough, right?"
Feliciano cocked his head for a moment, before he noticed the light catching in Elizaveta's hair, making the brown locks appear golden for a moment. Feliciano looked down and nodded.
"I'll see if I can convince one of my brothers to pose for me," he said.
Well, he could always draw them from memory, but he didn't want Elizaveta to think that he was being a bit too braggy.
…
Feliciano closed his eyes, trying to picture someone that he loved. He tried to think of their features, and eventually his hand started flying over the paper. The features slowly came to him, and he liked drawing this way. As he drew more, the more he saw, and he could focus on specific features without feeling overwhelmed.
Finally, he leaned back and smiled, before his smile fell. It wasn't one of his brothers staring back at him from the paper. It was Elizaveta. He blushed as he thought of her reaction to this picture – after all, the entire class would see it – and he pushed it aside, before drawing again. But the second drawing was also of Elizaveta. She was laughing in the second picture, and Feliciano blushed when he saw it.
"What are you working on?" Marcello's voice asked, and Feliciano jumped.
"Don't scare me like that!" Feliciano scolded.
"Sorry. So… What are you…? Is that Elizaveta?"
"…Si. We're supposed to draw something that we love, but…"
"Oh, so it's homework. Wait… Does that mean…? Fratello, do you like Elizaveta?"
"…Si."
"And why don't you just tell her?"
"Because… She sees me as a little brother. I don't…"
"Just tell her how you feel, okay?"
Feliciano looked at the papers and sighed.
"Fratello, can I ask you a favour?" Feliciano asked.
…
"This is one of your brothers, right?" the teacher asked. "It's excellently done."
Feliciano smiled, before he looked around the class. He wondered if he should tell Elizaveta about his feelings, like his brother suggested, but he would definitely not do it in the full classroom. Perhaps he should ask her to meet him behind the building after school.
The bell rang soon afterwards, and Feliciano rushed to intercept Elizaveta, catching her by the arm.
"Um, Lizzy?" he asked. "Could I… Could you meet me behind the school after the last bell?"
Elizaveta cocked her head, before she nodded. He sighed, before he rushed to his next class. He could feel the butterflies fluttering in his stomach, and he hoped that they would settle before their meeting time. And as he sat down at his next class, he wondered if she would accept his confession. He still had the two pictures in his bag. Perhaps he could give them to her.
"Are you alright?" Ludwig asked. "You're quiet."
"S-si," Feliciano said. "I'm just… I guess I'm nervous."
"About what?"
Feliciano shook his head. Kiku's eyes widened marginally.
"Is this about a crush?" Kiku asked.
Feliciano felt his face heat up, and he buried his face in his hands.
"I see," Kiku said. "Then we will not ask you anything more of this."
"Grazie…" Feliciano muttered.
The hours ticked by slowly, but when the final bell rang, Feliciano felt that it went by too quickly. He packed up his supplies and rushed to the meeting place. He was disappointed to see that Elizaveta wasn't there yet, but took a deep breath. She would come. He was sure of it. She was nice enough to indulge him, at least.
"Feli?"
Feliciano was startled, and he straightened as he saw Elizaveta. She smiled at him, and Feliciano cleared his throat.
"Um, I wanted to give you something," he said, before he dug into his schoolbag. He pulled out the two drawings. "For you. We were supposed to draw what we loved."
Elizaveta took the drawings, and her eyes widened.
"Feli…" she breathed.
"Lizzy… Would you go out with me?" Feliciano blurted.
She stared at him for a long while before she smiled and nodded.
