EngMal: Sudden Development

Arthur groaned when the alarm went off. He rubbed his eyes for a moment before he killed the alarm, and then he turned to Akmal.

"Time to get up," Arthur said.

"No," Akmal said. "Don't want to."

"Neither do I, but we need to."

Akmal groaned, before he threw his arm around Arthur and buried his head in the crook of his neck. This wasn't the first time he'd done something like this, but this time, Arthur tensed when he felt his partner's head.

"You're hot," Arthur said.

He felt the other's forehead, before he pushed himself out of bed. Akmal groaned, before he started to cough. Arthur went to the bathroom cabinet and got a thermometer. He helped Akmal sit up before he put the thermometer in Akmal's mouth.

When the thermometer beeped, Arthur plucked it out of Akmal's mouth and read the numbers, not liking what he saw.

"You have a fever of thirty-eight point nine degrees," Arthur said. He placed his hand on Akmal's cheek. "Are there any other symptoms?"

Akmal only shrugged.

"I feel sore," he said. "And my throat hurts. And my eyes burn."

Arthur sighed, before he placed a kiss on Akmal's forehead.

"I'll tell your boss that you're sick today," Arthur said. "And then, when I'm on my break, I'll call the doctor to make an appointment."

"I'm sorry…" Akmal said.

"No, it's alright. You probably got a bug from somewhere. It's not your fault. But the sooner we get you to the doctor, the better."

Akmal could only smile weakly.

I'm working on a story that heavily features Malaysia and the other ASEAN nations. It's called 'Thicker than Water'. I should hopefully be able to publish it in a few weeks.
