Chase and Skye both woke up with a smile as they dressed and got ready for work, Skye made breakfast while Chase made coffee. "Today is going to be a good day, right I mean it has to be a good day" Chase said. "It is your first day alone, and Chase you will be awesome I know it" Skye said. "Thanks babe, you flying anywhere special today?" Chase asked, "I typically don't know until I get there but it doesn't matter I love flying!" Skye said as she gave an eggs and toast to Chase. They both finished and Chase kissed her and said "I love you please be safe" "I love you too and you be safe too" Skye said as Skye took the car. Chase walked as the police station wasn't far and it gave Ace some exercise at least. Chase walked into the station and sat at his new desk, it used to be Tavers desk but it was now his. He had no cases so far so he didn't really know what to do.
Skye was ready to fly as her clients climbed aboard and the plane check was complete, Skye introduced herself as the captain and they were off. Skye was flying her clients to the grand canyon and she was kinda excited she had never seen it. It was your typical afternoon and Cassie was at home after school and she turned on the news, there was talk about a plane crashing and normally she would flip the channel. Cassie looked closer at the TV and said "Holy shit!" "Language Cassie" Katie said from the kitchen, "Mom this is bad, really bad" Cassie said, both Ryder and Katie ran to the TV and Katie gasped, "Oh my word" Katie said as Cassie turned up the TV. "No word yet as to why the plane crashed, or if there are any survivors at this point, It is said that there were 3 people on the plane a couple and a female pilot. As crews try to locate the wreckage and find any survivors. We will update you when we know more" the newscaster said. "Dad was it Skye's plane?" Cassie asked with sadness, "I don't know sweetie" Ryder said as he grabbed his keys.
Ryder arrived at the police station and thankfully Chase was still there, "Dad what are you doing here?" Chase asked. "Chase I don't want you to freak out, I was just watching the news" Ryder said, "Oh is there a case?" Chase said, "I am not sure it is in your jurisdiction, Chase there was a plane crash. We don't know who was on the plane yet as they haven't been able to locate the full wreckage" Ryder said. Chase looked at his dad and said "No, it wasn't no she is fine, I will call her" Chase said as he tried Skye's phone, it went to voicemail. "No it wasn't her plane dad, it wasn't her plane!" Chase screamed as he collapsed Ryder grabbed him and said "It might not have been but Chase if it is you need to be prepared" Ryder said. "No I am not accepting it she is not dead!" Chase said as the chief told Ryder to take him home. Ryder took Chase to his house and Chase sat on the couch. He wasn't moving he just looked at the TV, meanwhile, Katie told Marshall who texted everyone.
Everyone was at Chase's house without explanation, Chase didn't even acknowledge that they were there. Ella and Alyssa made some snacks for everyone even though no one felt like eating, Rocky sat beside his best friend and said "Chase I am sorry" "Sorry why are you sorry, it is not like she is dead. They have not said she is dead!" Chase said a bit angerly. "Don't chew my head off Chase. I know your upset we all our Skye is everyone's friend, we are all worried but yelling isn't going to change anything" Rocky said just as angerly. Chase looked at him and at everyone else and just started to cry. The news was not saying anything new about the plane crash and it was just making everyone on edge. Katie and Cassie were watching the twins but they were just as sad and worried as everyone else.
Skye noticed the red light flashing on her dash as she tried not to panic, as she was trained for this. She calmly called out, "Mayday Mayday, this is charter flight 323, the engine is failing and we are going down, I repeat the engine is failing and we are going down" "We hear you charter flight 323 can you land safely?" flight dispatch asked. "Negative we are above water, I will try get close" Skye said as she prepared her clients. "This is your captain Skye, I don't want to alarm you but there are life vests under your seat, please put them on now. We will be getting close to the water. I am going to ask you to remain calm and jump when I say" Skye said as she put her own life vest on tried to get the plane as close to the water as she could. She looked at the her 2 frightened clients and said, "I know this is scary but we are going to get through this, on 3 we are going to jump" Skye said as she opened the emergency exit and counted to 3 she pushed the clients out first and jumped herself. The impact of the water took her by surprise as she was winded a little bit. The plane crashing into the water just a few feet away from them caused a massive wave. Everyone was thrown of a little bit as Skye tried to stay above the water, the water was freezing as winter was just ending. Skye noticed the lights she wasn't sure if they were heaven lights as she felt herself fading or boat lights. The coast guard boat pulled up alongside them a few hours later and they were all pulled from the water.
Zuma who was on the boat was relieved he found Skye, but all 3 of them were hypothermic and on the verge of death. The coast guards immediately started working as they drove them back to dry land. They did everything in their power to warm them so the paramedics would have a chance to save them. They were taken to the hospital and Zuma texted Chase as he knew everyone was there,
Zuma: Chase we found Skye she is at the hospital, she is not out of the woods but as of right now she is alive
Chase didn't even reply he said, "they found her" as he got up and drove to the hospital just leaving everyone stunned. Ella drove everyone else to the hospital and said, "Well I know he is an emotional wreck, Skye is going to live through this or we all won't survive Chase" "I know what you mean, Chase is going to take this hard, but we aren't going to think negative thoughts here. Skye is going to be okay" Marshall said as they all arrived at the hospital. A nurse told them to wait in the waiting room. Chase paced he was a wreck, he was thinking to himself, "She is fine, she is fine, Skye is not going to die on me, No she is going to be fine" as he cried and paced. Rocky tried to help him, "Chase you need to relax you are making everyone tense, sit down" "I can't Rocky, my girl is in there, who knows if she is alive or dead, I don't know. It is killing me inside I can't breathe, I need to know if she is okay" Chase said. "I know buddy, I know" was all Rocky could say as he hugged his best friend. "Chase I know how you feel, when Zuma was hurt I didn't know if I would ever breathe again. Zuma was able to make it through and Skye will too, she is tough" Zoe said. "What happened to Skye is different" Chase said, "Actually what Zuma went through was worse. Chase Skye is an excellent flier and I know that she did everything in her power to save both herself and her clients. The fact she was above water could very well have saved their lives. Skye knew what she was doing, and I am sure that they all were out of the plane before it crashed." Marshall said. Chase tried to not panic and argue with his friends as it wouldn't do him any good.
They all waited for hours at least that is what it felt like to Chase, finally Dr. Shepard came out and said, "Okay as of right now Skye is stable, we have her in a medically induced coma as she inhaled a lot of water. She wasn't breathing when she was brought in but her body temperature was very low. She is now warm and her body is in recovery. We are going to monitor her over the next 48 hours as she recovers. I know everyone is anxious to see her but she is in the ICU and I can't allow more than 1 visitor." Dr. Shepard said. Skye's mother said "I want to see her, but I would like Chase to stay with her is that alright?" Lynne asked, "Yes you both may go" Dr. Shepard said. Chase followed Skye' mother and when he saw Skye he couldn't hold himself together. "Chase I need you to be strong for me here okay, You literally hold my daughter together. Don't you go breaking down on me" Lynne said. "Sorry Mrs. Sterling" Chase said as he tried to pull himself together. "Call me Lynne and Chase I see this stuff everyday, Skye is strong she will make it through, she has watched you survive so much and she kept it together even though inside her body was screaming. I know right now you are scared and worried but she needs you to be strong for her" Lynne said. Chase listened to her words and nodded he was going to be strong for his girl. Chase sat beside her and held her hand as he said "My beautiful girl, I am here for you. I love you so much and I am so happy you are alright. I want you to be strong and fight for me so I can see that beautiful smile" The next 48 hours were crucial as the Dr.'s didn't know how long Skye's brain was deprived of oxygen. The couple that were also on the plane were in the same boat as they had their family waited as well.
It was a tough 2 days for everyone as they all came and went Chase hadn't moved from her bedside, Dr. Shepard came in and ran some tests as she was looking to see if there was any brain activity. Chase watched her as he really had no idea what was happening, "Alright, Chase she has brain function which means she is alive, I am going to try and wake her up and see if she can breathe on her own." Dr. Shepard said as she gave Skye some meds and they waited for Skye to regain consciousness. It took several minutes but Skye moved and squeezed Chase's hand, he smiled and said "Beautiful girl can you open you eyes" Skye didn't respond right away and this made Chase nervous. Dr. Shepard shined a light in her eyes and a few seconds later Skye' opened her eyes. "Good girl, now I am going to take this out" Dr. Shepard said as she removed the tube. Skye coughed and looked at Chase, "I am sorry" Skye said softly, "For what?" Chase said, "making it not a good day, I crashed a plane and oh my gosh my clients" Skye said, "Are just fine, if anything Skye you saved everyone's lives. Now rest up you need it" Dr. Shepard said as she left the room. "I am just so happy you are alive, you had me scared" Chase said, "Good you have had me scared enough times it is time you knew how it felt" Skye said. Chase kissed her and said "thank you for not dying" "Your welcome" Skye said as Chase texted everyone.
Chase: Skye is awake and the first thing she said to me was sorry for not making my day good
Ella: Aw my girl worried for everyone but herself, Glad she is good
Rocky: haha well someone has to stroke your ego
Marshall: Oh my god Rocky that is the funniest thing ever, glad you are alive Skye
Chase: Haha very funny!
Everyone else texted as well and a lot of them continued to make fun of Chase to lighten the mood, Chase read all the texts out loud to Skye and she was giggling. "Sorry Chase, I never meant for them to make fun of you" Skye said. "No it's fine they aren't wrong" Chase said as he cuddled up next to Skye. Dr. Shepard monitored Skye for a few more days and the sent her home with instructions to rest. Chase catered to her and didn't let her do anything extreme as they watched TV and just relaxed. Chase of course still had to work but he always made sure Skye had someone to keep her company. Most of the time it was Ella as she was in between work right now.
