Chapter Five: Despair is in the Mind
Rubble's POV
I said, "The Mastermind is one of us! To be honest I kinda already knew that.". Both of them yelled, "What?!". Kamek asked, "How do you know that already?". I said, "Well, it's because of my last game. I had two people who I trusted a lot and one of them turned out to be the Mastermind.". Blue said, "S-Sorry to hear that, but why didn't you say anything about that before?". I said, "Well I didn't have any proof or anyone who I can trust at the time.". Kamek said, "I say this stays between us three for now. No telling anyone! That includes Rainer!". Blue said, "O-Ok, that sounds like a good idea.". Kamek said, "Let's end the conversation for tonight. If you find anything else, let the other two know as soon as possible!". We agreed and we left Kamek in his dorm. I headed to my dorm and ended the day.
I woke up to the wake up call and I got up. I wish it wasn't 7 am every time! I'm curious how some people can sleep through that? I walked out of my dorm. I saw Blue and Rainer walking to my dorm. Blue said, "Hey we were just about to get you!". I said, "Hey! I'm surprised that you got Rainer to come out of her dorm! No offense!". Rainer said, "N-None taken! My brothers wouldn't want me to lock myself away. They'd want me to fight and be strong!". I could see that she's still hurting. It sounds like she could break at any moment. Blue said, "We were gonna go check out the new floor, wanna join?". I said, "Sure!". We went to the staircase.
When we arrived on the floor we found Sonic and Tails coming to the staircase. Blue said, "Hey guys! Did you already search the floor?". Sonic said, "Yeah, other than the classrooms, there's only two rooms we can explore. There is one room we can't open. The biology lab.". Rainer said, "Thanks for the heads up!". They went downstairs while we went to explore the floor. We passed by the three classrooms and went to explore the first room. Why is the biology lab locked? Hopefully we'll find out soon.
The first room was the botanical garden. It had a giant plant in the center of the room. To the right there was a chicken coop I believe. To the left it looks like there is a tool shed. And there were plants all over the place. This room makes me miss the outside. Rainer said, "Clover would love this room!". Blue walked over to the coop and said, "Hey, this room even got chickens!". I knew it was a chicken coop. I asked, "Should we check out the shed over there?". Red Yoshi said, "We just did.". Red Yoshi and Zeke came from the direction of the shed.
Red Yoshi said, "It's full of tools for gardening.". Zeke said, "It's not really my thing.". Red Yoshi said, "Me neither.". Blue asked, "Do you guys know the deal with the giant plant?". Blue was walking close to it until Monokuma yelled, "DON'T TOUCH IT!". Blue backed away as Monokuma jumped out of the ground. Monokuma said, "If you touch that plant you'll be in for a big surprise!". I said, "Let me guess death!". Monokuma said, "Correct! It'll eat you up! I call it the Monokuma Flower!". Zeke said, "I can tell you came up with the name yourself.". Monokuma said, "Yup! Catch ya later!". He then disappeared. Rainer said, "Let's stay away from that plant!". I said, "agreed.". Blue said, "We're gonna check out the other room.". Zeke said, "Have fun, Oh by the way there's no staircase to another floor.". Blue said, "So this is the last floor.". Rainer said, "Thanks for letting us know.". We then left the garden.
The last room we entered was the martial arts dojo. A part of it looked like a locker room. The lockers were wooden and has their keys in them. There were a surface that has some armor on it and a plant. The other part looked like the outside with trees with pink leaves. It also has a wall on the farthest side of the entrance with targets on them. Ender and Kamek were in the outside part of the room. Kamek was standing on the grass and Ender was next to the targets. Ender said, "These targets remind me of Skylar's execution.". Kamek said, "I don't think anyone can look at targets the same way again after that.".
We walked up to them. Blue said, "Hey guys what's up?". Ender said, "Nothing much. This dojo is pretty nice.". Kamek said, "Sadly there's nothing useful here. Reason why Carrie is checking the classrooms.". I said, "I doubt there's anything there.". Ender said, "Well we're double checking to make sure.". Blue said, "At Least there's nothing dangerous in here!". Kamek said, "Actually I found arrows in a locker but weirdly no bows.". Rainer said, "At Least as we make sure no one can get their hands on the arrows, we'll be fine.". Then we heard a scream. I asked, "What was that?!". Ender said, "That was Carrie!". Blue said, "It sounded like she is in a classroom that is the farthest away from us!". Rainer said, "Let's go! She might be hurt!". We all rushed out of the dojo.
The scream came from classroom 5c. Zeke and Red Yoshi came too since they heard the scream as well. When we entered we saw something from a horror movie! The classroom was completely destroyed! There were blood stains on the chalkboard, walls and the floor! Desks and chairs were broken! There were also slash marks on the chalkboard, walls, and the floor! The most horrifying part was that there were so many chalked outlines of dead bodies on the floor!
Carrie was trembling right in front of us. Carrie was also hyperventilating! Ender went to comfort her and asked, "Carrie calm down! Are you ok?!". Carrie nervously said, "Y-Yeah…". Rainer asked, "W-What happened here?!". Zeke said, "Obviously that physcotic bear did this!". Monokuma said, "No I didn't! Why are you blaming me?!". He popped out of nowhere. Zeke said, "Can you blame me? You want us to kill each other!". Monokuma then said, "You got a fair point I guess. But the event that happened to this room was a tragedy.". Blue nervously asked, "W-What tragedy?". Monokuma said, "It's none of your business! Now go get the other two and meet me in the gym! See you there!".
He disappeared once again. Kamek said, "Looks like it's motive time!". Zeke said, "Ugh, I hate these stupid motives! I just want to break him apart but I don't want to die.". We all left the classroom to go back downstairs. When we got down stairs we looked for Sonic and Tails. When we found them we headed to the gym. I'm scared to see the next motive! I'm hoping that no one will cave into the motive! Most likely my hopes won't come true. Especially with one of us being the Mastermind. It's only a matter of time before one of us kills once again.
After we grabbed Sonic and Tails, we all entered the gym. As soon as we all arrived at the gym, we heard Monokuma say, "Looks like everyone is here! Let's get this started!". Monokuma appeared out of the ground again. Zeke demanded, "Let's just get this over with! What's the stupid motive!". Monokuma said, "Before I explain that. Maybe you should look at the motive file on your e-handbooks.". I grabbed my handbook and opened the file. It said, "Motive #5: Nightmares and Hallucinations! Someone gets affected every 12 pm and am.". Is he gonna mess with our minds again?! Carrie nervously asked, "T-There's no way he can alter our dreams! R-Right?". Blue said, "After the last motive, I believe he's able to!". I whispered, "When my nightmares are becoming less common, this happens!".
Ender asked, "Can you explain the motive?". Monokuma said, "Everyday until someone kills, you'll get scary hallucinations during the day. And nightmares during the night! Yes we prepared this when we altered your minds for the last motive!". Kamek said, "I wish I could sue you right now so bad!". Monokuma said, "Too bad! Anyway the motive will start affecting you all one at a time in an hour or two! Catch ya later!". He jumped and disappeared.
Carrie said, "This could be bad!". Ender said, "These are just visions from our head! It won't hurt us, we can make it through this!". Blue said, "Yeah, Ender is right! So far we haven't killed anyone for the motives. This one shouldn't be any different!". We left the gym and went to have breakfast. Sonic said that he made breakfast for us today. The food he made isn't breakfast food. He made us chili dogs. While we were eating we wanted to get our minds out of everything so we talked. We spent some minutes talking and then we all went to do our own things. Me and Blue took Rainer to the pool. We hoped it'll help cheer her up. After a few minutes, we swam up to her and Blue asked, "Hey are you feeling better?". Rainer sighed and said, "N-No, normally swimming would make me happy but not this time.". Blue put his ribbon on her shoulder and said, "It's ok, take your time. We'll be here to help you.".
I said, "Y-Yeah, Blue is right.". We spent a little while in the pool. When we got out we checked the time. Blue said, "The motive has activated five minutes ago.". Rainer said, "I don't think any of us were the first ones to be affected.". I said, "Maybe we should find out who it was.". So we went to go find the affected one. It took us 20 minutes to look. When we went to the dorms we found Ender standing outside of Carrie's door. I think I've figured out who the affected one is.
Ender said, "Carrie please calm down!". Carrie shouted from inside of her dorm, "NO! I CAN'T! I CAN SEE EVERYONE'S GHOST RIGHT NOW!". We walked up to Ender and Blue said, "I'm guessing Carrie is affected.". Ender said, "Y-Yeah. I'm trying to calm her down before she explodes from stress and fear. And I'm being serious about the exploding part.". I said, "Yeah, I remember reading about creepers in the minecraft mob anatomy.". Rainer asked, "Since you're trying to calm her down, why don't you teleport into her dorm?". Ender said, "I don't want to scare her. Like I said she'll explode if she is too scared or too stressed.". Blue asked, "Is there anything we can do to help?". Ender said, "The best you guys can do is to give her space. I can do my best to calm her down.". Blue said, "Ok, we'll leave you guys alone.". We left Ender to calm Carrie down.
Rainer wanted to go to the nurse's office for some reason. When we arrived, I asked, "Why do you want to come here? There is nothing here but medical stuff and a fridge full of blood bags.". Rainer asked, "W-Where is it?". I asked, "Where is what?". She said, "The broken computer Jolt was fixing.". Blue said, "It's gone! But where did it go? Did someone take it?". I noticed a note on the desk. I took it and asked, "Is this Jolt's handwriting?". Rainer took it and said, "Yep, Jolt wrote this.". The note says, "Sauna". Blue said, "Sauna? Why does it say sauna?". I said, "That is one of the rooms with no cameras.". Rainer said, "Well let's check it out.". We left the nurse's office.
When we entered the sauna changing room, Blue asked, "Ok, where would be a good place to hide something?". I said, "The lockers most likely.". We checked the lockers. After a couple of lockers, Rainer said, "I don't think the lockers are where the computer could be.". I said, "It's not like there's any other place to hide anything here.". I then opened a locker, but when I opened it the laptop inside of it turned on. I said, "I found the computer or laptop.". Then Blue and Rainer walked towards me, as I took out the laptop. Rainer asked, "I thought Jolt said that he couldn't fix it, how is it working?". Blue said, "Jolt might've been lying so Monokuma wouldn't find out.".
The computer said, "Accessing All Files, 73%". Rainer said, "Accessing files? Do you think that those files have anything useful in it?". I said, "Yeah, hopefully.". Blue said, "Until the loading is complete, let's keep this between us.". I said, "Yeah, we don't know if we can trust everyone.". Rainer looked confused and said, "Ok. sounds good (I guess).". I put the laptop back in the locker and closed it. Then the three of us exited the sauna changing room. The rest of the day wasn't that eventful. After dinner, me and Blue watched movies. After that I went to my dorm for the rest of the night. Then I went to sleep and ended the day.
During the night, I had a nightmare. The nightmare was Blue being the next body found. And during the class trial, we lost and we had to face executions. When I was about to die, I woke up screaming! It was midnight. I said, "I-I think I'm now affected!". I tried to go back to sleep but it wasn't possible. The wake up call came but I was already awake. I barely got any sleep and I'm so tired. I heard a knock on my dorm. I answered and it was Blue. Blue said, "Hey Rubble!". He then noticed the bags under my eyes. Blue continued, "Woah! What happened to you?". I said, "I kept getting nightmares all night!". Blue asked, "Did you get affected?". I said, "Yes!". He said, "Let's go to the dining hall. Rainer volunteered to make breakfast today.". We headed to the dining hall.
When we walked in we overheard the conversation. Ender said, "We need to find out who is the second person to be affected.". Zeke said, "Well it's not me and Carrie is already affected.". Kamek said, "Not me.". Sonic said, "I'm completely fine.". Tails said, "I'm fine too.". Blue said, "I know who's affected.". They all turned to us and saw me. Kamek said, "I'm guessing it's Rubble.". I said, "(Yawn) Correct…". Zeke said, "Wow, you look terrible.". Ender was sitting next to Zeke and he slapped him. Blue asked, "Hey, is Carrie in her dorm?". Ender said, "Yes, when breakfast comes, I'm gonna bring her a plate.".
We talked for a little and then Rainer came in with breakfast. She made scrambled eggs. Ender took two plates and teleported to Carrie's dorm. We ate and then we talked for a little bit more. I can see Kenny, Professor Duck, Purple, Mr. Krabs, Rocky, Jolt, Skylar, and Flame sitting in the empty seats at the dining room table. Blue noticed me looking at the empty chairs and said, "You ok bud?". I said, "N-No, I'm not! The hallucinations are happening!". Sonic asked, "What do you see?". I looked at Rainer and I said, "I don't think I should share.". Tails said, "Maybe we should talk about finding a way to escape?". Zeke said, "What's the point of that? Everytime we talk about it, we get nowhere!". Red Yoshi said, "Yeah, let's face it, it's either live here forever or kill someone and get away with it!".
Sonic said, "Didn't Rubble find a way to escape in a previous game?". I said, "Well, it was a different building layout. Also it was really risky, like I said I'm the only one who escaped alive.". Zeke asked, "Well how did you manage to get out?". Blue said, "Let's not ask him about that.". I said, "It was the Mastermind's secret tunnels. I don't know if this school has any secret tunnels.". Blue said, "I'm honestly surprised you-". I said, "Well he would've kept asking me if I didn't. I don't want to go through that while being tortured by this motive!". After a few minutes of talking, we decided to go do our own thing. Blue wanted to stick close to me because of my hallucinations. I'm honestly worried about when or if Rainer gets affected. Blue was worried about that too. We walked around the school for a little bit.
We then went to use the sauna. While we were there, I told him what I was seeing. He said, "W-Wow, that would definitely mess with the head.". I said, "Yeah…". I closed my eyes for a second and when I opened back up I saw something different. I saw a blue mushroom shaped creature. It has two little blue feet and no arms. It also had a blue circular tail. Three dark blue stripes on its chest. And two small purple antlers on its sides of their head. I cried, "W-William? No, why!". Blue asked, "Are you ok?". I cried, "N-No I'm seeing one of my close friends that died, William the Wooper. He was the Ultimate Poet. Poetry was his passion. A-And he-". Blue said, "You don't have to talk about it. I'm sorry for your loss.". I said, "Thanks.". I had tears forming in my eyes. Blue saw the tears and said, "Hey let's get our minds off of this.".
When he said that I looked towards the opposite side of the room and I noticed something. I got up and walked to the left corner of the room. There was an e-handbook laying under the bench. I grabbed it and Blue saw it. Blue asked, "Is that a handbook? Who does it belong to?". I tried to turn it on but it wouldn't work. Blue asked, "Is it broken?". I said, "Yes it is. Hmm.". Monokuma appeared and said, "Looks like someone had found the only weak point in their handbook!". Blue asked, "Monokuma?! Wait, what do you mean by 'the only weak point'?". Monokuma said, "The e-handbooks are really hard to break. They're waterproof and can withstand hits by heavy objects and high falls. The weak point is high temperatures! That's all I can say for now, catch ya later!".
I said, "That explains it.". Blue asked, "Explains what?". I said, "Remember Professor Duck smashing his handbook? Well based on what Monokuma said, that shouldn't have broken it. I knew that stunt he pulled was fishy. Remember I played this game before. I already knew how strong the handbooks are.". Blue said, "So what you're saying is that Professor Duck made and broke a fake handbook. And that handbook right there is his real one!". I said, "Right. I believe he broke his handbook by accident and tried to fake smash it to throw us off.". After that discovery, we left the sauna.
We took the handbook to Tails to see if he could fix it. Tails said, "I would try but the new rules restricts me from doing that.". Blue asked, "New rules? What new rules?". I took out my handbook and read the new rules out loud, "Rule #9: If two bodies are found, only the first one will matter. Rule #10: Don't break your E-Handbook. Rule #11: If you try to 'fix' an E-Handbook, an alarm will play when it's open. Rule #12: Additional school regulations may be added if necessary.". Blue asked, "Didn't rule #12 use to be rule #9?". I said, "When new rules are added they always come up before that rule.".
I then noticed the time, it was 2:48 pm. I said, "Looks like someone else is affected. We should find out who it is.". Tails said, "Actually I already know. Sonic is the next one affected.". Blue said, "Really, how do you know?". Tails said, "He sees our friend Amy Rose stalking him.". We then left tails to do his own thing. We walked around for a little while. Then we found Red Yoshi, he was in the music hall. He was practicing his acting skills and asked us to help him. We spent two hours helping Red Yoshi practice. We were rehearsing the story of Peter Pan.
After helping Red Yoshi, we left the music hall. Blue said that he volunteered to make dinner and asked if I wanted to help. I told him that I would help and we headed to the kitchen. We're gonna cook spaghetti for prepared the noodles while I made the sauce. It took us about 20 minutes to make dinner. After dinner Rainer wanted me to join her in the pool. Blue had to talk with Kamek, so it was just us two. We spent some time bonding at the pool. She showed me some awesome tricks. After we got out of the pool the time was 9;50 pm. I told Rainer that I was gonna head to bed and went to my dorm.
When I was about to enter, Blue stopped me. He asked, "Hey bud, can I ask you a question?". I said, "S-Sure? What do you need?". Blue said, "I was curious if you want a sleepover at my dorm?". I said, "A sleepover?". Blue said, "Yeah, I thought maybe if you have a close friend sleep over with you. Maybe you might not get that bad of nightmares tonight.". I thought about it for a second. I said, "I-I'm not sure. I have never been on a sleep over before, I wouldn't know-". Blue said, "Hey I promise that it's nothing to worry about.". I breathed and said, "O-Ok, I'm in.". So I got my pillow and blanket and went into Blue's dorm.
I made myself comfortable on the floor and Blue said, "You can sleep on the bed you know?". I said, "I prefer to sleep on the floor, but thanks!". A few hours after we slept the nightmares started. This time it was Blue, and Rainer getting executed because of me! Then the ghost of William came to say that I could've prevented this! That it was all my fault! I woke up screaming, causing Blue to wake up terrified! Blue saw me crying and asked, "Rubble, are you ok?!". I said, "I-I-I'm sorry!". He then asked, "You had a nightmare, didn't you?". I nodded and I told him about it. He hugged me and said that it'll be ok. He insisted that I sleep next to him on the bed. So I did and I closed my eyes, hoping that I don't get that nightmare again.
Blue's POV
The wake up call woke me and Rubble up. Rubble actually went to sleep last night. I asked, "Hey bud, how was your sleep?". He said, "Surprisingly good.". He yawned and I said, "That's good! How are your hallucinations?". He said, "Still seeing our dead friends.". I said, "Hey wanna do something before breakfast?". Rubble said, "S-Sure. Does reading at the library sound good?". I said, "Yeah of course!". We got ready and headed for the library.
We were in the hallway and heading for the staircase when we bumped into Ender. He was standing in front of Carrie's dorm. I asked, "Hey Ender! How's Carrie doing?". Ender said, "I don't know. I got here two minutes ago and she isn't responding to the doorbell.". I said, "Maybe she is just really tired because of the motive. I think you should give her some time to sleep.". Ender said, "Yeah, you're right. Hey where are you two heading?". Rubble said, "To the library.". Ender asked, "Mind if I come along?". I said, "Of course we don't mind!". So the three of us went upstairs.
We were in front of the library and Ender asked, "Hey Blue are you affected?". I said, "By the motive? No, are you?". Ender said, "No, I'm not. I think we should find out during breakfast.". Me and Rubble agreed with him. I said, "Ok, let's head in!". When we walked in, what we saw wasn't normal. The table area was destroyed! Ashes all over the place, the table and chair broken, and burnt books all over the floor! Rubble asked, "WHAT HAPPENED HERE?!". Ender nervously cried, "N-No, p-please don't let this be what I think it is!". Then the ding dong bing bong sound appeared. Monokuma said, "A bodyhas been found! Please meet at the library for further instructions!".
