Martha shifted her feet, uncomfortably aware of the scrutiny she was under. She was beginning to understand how an amoeba might feel if it was stuck on a slide beneath a microscope, being studied by someone at the other end of the evolutionary ladder. She'd never felt smaller or more insignificant, and she'd studied parasitology under Doctor Klein, a man who treated his specimens with more consideration than he showed his students.

The towering alien entity said something in a language Martha didn't understand.

"What did it say?" she hissed at the Doctor.

"Humans aren't as primitive as she'd expected."
