Chapter one
--
As the sun hid itself from view behind fluffy gray clouds and the clouds released a steady shower of rain, animals all over Kongo Bongo Island made sure to stay out of the rain, hiding in cozy caves or snug little huts. They curled up with warm blankets or played games inside, listening to the soft pitter-patter of raindrops on their roofs. But not the Kongs! They had a big day planned, and nothing could stop them from having fun.
In Bluster's Barrel Works, the air was filled with the sounds of busy work. Candy was bustling around, making sure everything was just right. She was excited because it was almost time for her to finish her day at work. She had so many thoughts dancing in her head about the party that Donkey Kong was hosting soon. Bright balloons, tasty snacks, and all her friends would be there! She didn't want to miss a single moment of the fun.
Candy could already imagine everyone laughing, playing games, and dancing together. The thought made her smile so big that it almost lit up the whole factory. Each tick of the clock felt like a little drumbeat, reminding her that the party was getting closer and closer.
Bluster's Barrel Works was usually a busy place, but today felt even more special. The barrels were lined up neatly, waiting for all the excitement that was sure to come. Candy could already picture them being rolled to the party, filled with goodies and surprises. She was ready to help make it the best day ever!
She watched the clock intently, as if she were making sure it didn't speed ahead of time. She was barely focusing on her work, she was so excited! By then her rich, jerk boss walked in.
"I smell money not being made!" Bluster called as he poked his head out from his office. "What's with the dily daly Candy?" Candy didn't even notice him there. So then Bluster walked up to her and snapped his fingers in her face. "Hello? Why are you staring at the clock?!" Bluster yelled.
"Oh, sorry, Bluster!" Candy said, finally noticing him with wide eyes and a bright smile on her face. "I'm just so excited for the party tonight!" Her energy made Bluster tilt his head in confusion. "Party? What party?" he asked, scratching his head with a puzzled look.
"The big party DK's hosting! Did you not know about it?" Candy explained, her excitement bubbling over. "Then again, I'm not surprised..."
"Donkey Kong is hosting a party? How come I wasn't invited!?" Bluster snapped, his voice getting louder and his eyebrows furrowing with frustration.
Candy sighed deeply and rolled her eyes dramatically. "Because you're a big party pooper, Bluster! Every time you're invited to a party, you find some way to ruin it!"
"I am not a party pooper!" Bluster scoffed, crossing his arms tightly.
"Don't you remember last year?" Candy asked, raising an eyebrow. They both remembered the party from last year, and the trouble that followed.
--
Kongs from all over the kingdom had shown up to the big party. They danced, ate and just had fun. "This party is amazing!" Dixie said to Candy. "I know right! Nothing could ruin a party this good!" Candy called back, trying to be heard over the loud music.
"Don't jinx it, Bluster still hasn't arrived!" Dixie pointed out."Yeah, but I bet even HE couldn't ruin this party!" Candy exclaimed. As if on cue, Bluster walked in, looking disgusted by the Kongs having fun.
"What a mess! Even I could host a party better than this trash!" Bluster grumbled to himself. He walked in through the entrance and looked around, wondering what to do. Then Donkey Kong walked up to him. "Hey Bluster! Honestly I didn't expect to see you here..." Donkey said.
"Yeah well, I'm here now." Bluster sighed. "Yeah... well anyways I have to take a few barrels here, do you mind helping me?"Donkey asked. Bluster gasped. "Did you just ask me to do WORK!?" He yelled. Donkey sighed. "No I just wanted you to..." "This is outrages! I don't work!" Bluster said as he took a step back.
Unfortunately that turned out to be a mistake and he accidentally stepped on a cord, tripping over it. As he tripped over, he brought down a couple of speakers. Some landed on other Kongs, which made them scream and some landed and some of the other equipment, totally smashing it.
As if that weren't enough, when Bluster tried to stand up, he accidentally knocked over some pillars and they crashed into the ground, which made even more Kongs scream. "Let's get outta here!" One yelled and soon everyone was running out of the place.
Once every one was gone, Bluster sat on the ground. He looked up to see Donkey Kong glaring at him. Bluster laughed nervously. "Uh...oops?"
--
"Okay, but that was a mistake." Bluster protested. "I didn't mean to ruin the whole party." Suddenly the final bell went, meaning the day was over. Candy packed her things. "Look Bluster, I think it's best if you just stay home tonight." She suggested. "Donkey worked really hard on this and if you ruin it again he wont let you off with a warning this time."
With that, Candy picked up her bag and left the factory. Bluster scoffed. "Fine! I'll stay home and have my own fun! I don't need to go to some stupid party!" He called after her. He then packed his own things and left, mumbling angrily to himself.
As he walked, he kicked a can down the street, feeling grumpy. "Who needs a party anyway?" he grumbled. "It's not like they even want me there." He imagined Donkey and the others having a great time without him, and it only made him frown more.
Bluster sighed, plopping down on a nearby bench. "I'll just play my games and have the best time," he told himself, trying to feel better. But deep down, a little part of him wished he could join in the fun after all.
