Chapter 4
--
Bluster woke up early the next morning, feeling the warmth of the sun on his face.
He stretched his arms and yawned. "Time to keep going," he said to himself. He stood up, dusted off his fur, and stepped out of the cave.
The jungle was alive with the sounds of birds singing and leaves rustling in the breeze. Bluster felt a little more confident now that it was daytime. "Okay, I need to get to the Zinger's hives," he remembered. He walked cautiously, looking around to make sure no Gnawties were following him.
As he walked, Bluster spotted a river. The water looked clear and cool, and he realized how thirsty he was. "I'll take a quick drink," he decided. He knelt by the riverbank and cupped his hands to scoop up the water. It was refreshing and tasted great after his long night.
"Oh that's so gooooo-" Suddenly, Bluster heard rustling in the bushes behind him. He spun around, his heart pounding. "WHO'S THERE!?" he yelled. He picked up a stick that was lying next to him. "I have a stick and I am not afraid to use it!" he shouted, trying to sound brave.
But there was no answer. The bushes were still. Bluster's grip on the stick tightened. "Maybe I'm just paranoid…" he thought, scratching his head in confusion. He slowly lowered the stick and took a deep breath.
Bluster pressed on, and soon he reached the edge of the Zinger's territory. He looked up and saw the huge beehives hanging from the trees. "Whoa, those are big," he said, feeling a little nervous.
"Don't worry," he told himself, "just move slowly and don't disturb the hives." Bluster took a deep breath and started walking through the Zinger's territory. He was careful to step lightly and avoid the buzzing bees. His heart pounded, but he kept going, determined to reach the mines and K Rool's lair.
As he walked, Bluster heard a loud buzzing sound. He looked up and saw a giant Zinger flying towards him. "Uh-oh," he said, "I need to hide!" He quickly spotted a hollow log nearby and dove inside just as the Zinger flew overhead. Bluster held his breath, hoping the Zinger wouldn't notice him.
The Zinger hovered in the air for a while, as if it were admiring the beautiful jungle, before it turned around a flew a way. Bluster peeked out the log to see if there were anymore. When he didn't see anymore he let out a sigh of relief. "Phew!" He said.
Then he turned around and saw a Zinger staring right at him. "Oh sugar honey ice tea." Bluster cursed. "Whatzzzzz thizzzzz? What are you doing in our territory?" The Zinger asked. "Uh... erm... hm..." Bluster staggered, struggling to find his words. "Nobody invadezzz OUR territory! Zzzzzingerzzzz! Attack!" The Zinger yelled.
Just then, a whole hoard of Zingers appeared out of nowhere and glared at Bluster. "Well... I'd love to stick around but..." Bluster sprinted away, hoping he could out run the Zingers. They all chased him, their sharp stingers pointing right at him.
Bluster kept running and running until he saw a cliff and had no choice but to stop. He turned around and saw the Zingers right in front of him. What do I do!? Bluster thought frantically.
Suddenly, as if the sky itself had thrown it, a big iron tube fell out of nowhere and landed on the Zingers. Some got stuck underneath it and the rest were so startled that they flew off. Bluster looked up to where the tube would've came from. He saw a large tree and thought he saw a small tail, but it disappeared into the leaves of the tree. "Heh. It's my lucky day!" Bluster said, then went on.
Bluster walked carefully through the jungle, feeling happy and a bit curious. He wondered who or what had thrown that big iron tube. As he walked, he heard the chirping of birds and the rustling of leaves. The sun peeked through the trees, making patterns on the ground.
Then he realised something. The mines were just up ahead. And so was K Rool's lair. "Yes! I knew I was good at this!" Bluster exclaimed. "I made it all the way to K Rool's lair by myself."
Bluster peeked inside to see what was going in. He saw some Kritters working on the most random things ever, but there was no sign of K Rool. Bluster breathed in. "Well, here goes nothing." He said. Then he crept into the lair...
