Chapter 59:

He'll be Scaling up the Mountain

Location: Mt. Lanakila

It was finally time.

My ascent up Mt. Lanakila.

It was not going to be an easy trip.

But… this is the final big obstacle before becoming the first Champion of Alola.

"You've come a long way, haven't you? Roto?"

I looked at my Z-Ring, remembering the exact day that Tapu Koko gave it to me. "Yeah," I said stepping onto the elevator. As it went up, I shouted…

"Let's go show the Alola region who's boss!"

We started up on the mountainside. With how big the mountain is, we knew it would take about a day to climb it. Usually, I would comment on the view, but the fog created by the snow blocked it all out. I got out a jacket and put it on which helped a little. You know what did help though? A battle! I found a Hiker and walked in front of him.

"You took the elevator? Child's play! I climbed this!"

"Go Slowbro!" I shouted.

"You're up Gigalith!" replied the Hiker, sending out a large four-legged purple Pokémon made of rocks. It had red crystals jutting out of it in various places.

"Use Stone Edge!" Gigalith fired sharp stones at Slowbro.

"Come back with Surf!" Slowbro created a large wave that crashed down onto Gigalith.

"Use it again!" Another Stone Edge but it didn't quite finished Slowbro.

"Finish with another Surf!" Slowbro got Gigalith wet once more, defeating it.

"Ow. My legs hurt!"

After that, I went inside a cave. At least in here I was out of the snow, but it was still chilly. I really should have bought skiing equipment.

"Let's just continue," I said. Just then, a Pokémon appeared. It was white and furry with a black horn coming of its head.

Although it is said to bring disaster, in actuality, this Pokémon possesses a calm disposition and warns people of any crises that loom.

Absol has no known evolutions.

"Dizzazzter?! Roto?"

"Hariyama, go!" I shouted. Absol's horn started glowing and it slashed at Hariyama for Super Effective damage. "That was Psycho Cut! Hariyama, Close Combat!" Hariyama beat up Absol, defeating it in one blow.

"Look! Roto! Thozze rockzz!"

I saw them. They were square, and therefore able to be pushed. I was about to summon Machamp before an Ace Trainer interrupted me.

"Dealing with the cold aye?"

"Go Scyther!" Seth shouted, sending out a green Pokémon with sharp blades and clear wings.

It confuses its prey with its quick, ninja-like movements. Then, in an instant, it cleaves them with its scythes.

"I choose Incineroar!" I replied.

"Use X-Scissor!" Scyther slashed at Incineroar in an X formation.

"Come back with Flare Blitz!" Incineroar set itself alight then rammed itself into Scyther. It knocked it out in one, but at the expense of Incineroar taking a lot of recoil damage.

"Nice one. Now Malamar, you're up next!" Next up was Inkay's evolved form but bigger and upside down.

It flashes the pattern on its torso to control its prey and draw them in. The edges of its fins are supremely sharp.

"Snorlax, you're up!" I shouted.

"Malamar, use Superpower!" Malamar suddenly got very bulky, then it slashed at Snorlax for lots of damage. However, Malamar's Attack and Defense fell.

"Take this opportunity!" Me and Snorlax put our arms in front. "Whilst its Defense is down… PULVERIZING PANCAKE!" Snorlax got up, ran at full speed to Malamar, jumped and then landed on Malamar with an explosion. It didn't even stand a chance.

"Hey, that battle warmed me up! Thanks!"

Following that, I summoned Machamp to have it push the rocks into the hole. This helped me get across.

"Great!" I said. "Come on Rotom Dex!"

"Someone'zz optimizztic. Roto."

I almost left the cave when a Veteran Trainer found me.

"You have entered my humble domain, and you can never leave!"

"Lickitung, go!" The first Pokémon was a pink Pokémon with an extraordinarily long tongue.

It licks filth clean with its tongue. Whatever it licks always stinks afterward, so whether it's really clean is… questionable.

"Okay Hariyama, go!" I shouted. "Close Combat!" Hariyama punched Lickitung multiple times. Yeah, it finished it off quickly.

"Well, Goodra won't go down that fast!" Out came a slimy-purple Pokémon with a large tail.

It's very friendly toward people. If you grow close to it, Goodra will hug you with its sticky, slime-covered body. Don't get mad.

"Slowbro, you got this!" I shouted.

"Power Whip!" Goodra's tail went green, and it whacked Slowbro with it for lots of damage.

"Come back with Ice Punch!" Slowbro punched Goodra with its cold fist.

"And now use Dragon Pulse!" Goodra then fired Dragon energy at Slowbro, dealing the final blow.

"Thanks," I said. "Go Snorlax!" I shouted. "Use Giga Impact!" Snorlax charged into Goodra with all its might, defeating it.

"I think I'm going through a mid life crisis…"

I got outside again. The snow was starting to come down harder. At the very least I would take this over the heat from Haina Desert. I was actually prepared for this.

Do you know who else was prepared for this? Some Black Belts. They were doing some training in this bitter Weather. They were doing kicks and punches. They were barefoot- it must have been freezing!

I walked in front of two of them and initiated a Double Battle.

"Kick! Punch! It's all in the mind!"

"Kick! Punch!"

"Mienfoo, hah!" Out came a yellow Pokémon with puffy-red arms and legs.

They can often be seen in packs in the morning, slowly moving their bodies through a series of poses.

"And I'm using Bewear!" Eimar shouted. As long as this thing doesn't ask for hugs, I'll be fine.

"Then I'm using Lunala and Hariyama!" I replied. "Hariyama! Close Combat!" Hariyama punched Bewear multiple times, almost downing it in one fell swoop. "And Lunala, Moongeist Beam!" Lunala fired a glowing beam at Mienfoo.

"Mienfoo, High Jump Kick!" Mienfoo kicked Hariyama.

"Bewear, Brutal Swing!" Bewear swung its arms around, hitting both Hariyama and Lunala. Lunala specifically took a lot of damage.

"Lunala, Shadow Ball! Hariyama, Reversal!" One Shadow Ball at Miengoo and one Reversal at Bewear and both of them were downed.

"Machamp, go!" Allon shouted.

"Give it a dose of Moongeist Beam and Reversal!" Lunala fired a beam whist Hariyama punched Machamp. Both were enough to take the two-eyed four-armed grey Pokémon beater down.

"Punch, kick. I blew it."

"Punch, kick…"

That was a successful start, but I had to beat two more. They were more than happy to battle.

"I learned all my moves through video games!"

"I choose Hawlucha!" Jason shouted, sending out a red and green Pokémon that was covered in feathers and looked like a wrestler.

It overwhelms opponents with quick moves, but sometimes it showboats for too long when it's using a special move and gets itself into a pinch.

Hawlucha has no known evolutions.

"And I'm using Crabominable!" Jason yelled. He sent out a crusty, woolly white Pokémon with large claws that looked like boxing gloves.

It aimed for the top but got lost and ended up on a snow mountain. Being forced to endure the cold, this Pokémon evolved and grew fur.

Crabrawler -Lv up on Mt. Lanakila- Crabominable

"Mismagius, Slowbro! Go!" I shouted

"Hawlucha! Sky Attack!" Hawlucha started surrounding itself with white energy.

"Mismagius, Psychic!" Mismagius blasted Crabominable with Psychic energy.

"Now Crabominable, use Ice Hammer!" Crabominable's claws were covered in ice, then it brought them down onto Mismagius. Crabomimable's Speed also fell.

"Now Slowbro, Ice Punch!" Slowbro's fist went white, and it punched Hawlucha.

"Now Hawlucha!" Hawlucha jumped up and, still covered in white energy, flew into Slowbro for lots of damage.

"Mismagius, Psychic again!" Mismagius attack Hawlucha with Psychic energy, defeating it.

"Now use Brutal Swing!" Crabominble swung its claws around hitting both Mismagius and Slowbro. Mismagius was defeated.

"Use Psychic!" Slowbro managed to finish Crabominable off, finishing the fight.

"We should listen to our instructor more…"

With them out the way, I went into a cave.

Inside the cave was what looked like a crater.

"Wow! Roto! What could have cauzzed thizz?"

I knew just the person to ask; Colress was there! "Hey!" I said.

"Don't shout! Roto! He might be deep into work!"

"Oh, I'm fine," Colress responded, looking round. "Well well well, if it isn't the person who saved Alola."

"Why are you here?" I asked. "I really hope that didn't sound too suspicious; I mean I know you are part of the Aether Foundation but you are one of the good guys."

Colress smiled. "Look at this," he said. We saw a Pokémon that was large and black. It had two arms, and it looked like it was made of crystals.

"What is that?" I said.

It looks somehow pained as it rages around in search of light, which serves as its energy. It's apparently from another world. If it isn't devouring light, impurities build up in it and on it, and Necrozma darkens and stops moving.

Legendary Pokémon.

"A Pokémon that devours light?" I asked. "Well, it's not good on a mountain with a constant blizzard and in a-" I stopped. "Wait a second…"

I knew that shape!

"Colress, this is important. I believe this Pokémon might be the reason why the Ultra Recon Squad is here. There was an engraving in the Lake of the Sunne that might be referring to Necrozma."

"Is that so?" Colress asked. "I knew it. My invention might end up coming in handy then." He got out what looked like a remote with a blue ball on top. "This is… well, you'll know when to use it just in case. I don't want to worry you."

"Oh," I said.

"I will continue my research. You just focus on giving Alola its first Champion."

"I will," I said. With that, we walked off.

After that pep talk, I went into a cave. This would be the final cave before I reached the top.

After a few steps, I came across a wild Pokémon. It was a Drampa. "Go Slowbro!" I shouted. Drampa started with Dragon Pulse. Slowbro stood its ground. "Use Ice Punch!" Slowbro punched Drampa with its cold fist. Doing this froze Drampa! "And another!" Slowbro finished off Drampa with another Ice Punch.

I congratulated Slowbro. "I am so glad I taught you Ice Punch," I told it.

"So you should," said a Collector. "Because, between you and me… I think there is a Z-Crystal in this cave."

"WHAT?! ROTO?!"

"Where?" I said.

"I'll tell you if you battle me!"

"You're up Florges!" A Pokémon that looked like a flower with white petals was sent out.

Florges (フラーッエス)

It controls the flowers it grows. The petal blizzards* that Florges triggers are overwhelming in their beauty and power.

*This is not necessarily referencing the move Petal Blizzard, which Florges can learn.

"Then I'll use Snorlax!" I shouted.

"Use Moonblast!" Using the power of the moon, Florges fired energy at Snorlax.

"Come back with Heavy Slam!" Snorlax jumped onto Florges, defeating it instantly.

"So, I don't know where it is, but it is here."

The thought of another Z-Crystal got me excited. Hey, I was almost at the top anyway, so I could do a bit more exploring.

I went round the corner to find a path with a Veteran. I walked in front of her.

"My ears have popped."

"Pyroar, I choose you!" Out came a brown Pokémon with a red and yellow mane. It was very long and went along its back.

The males are usually lazy, but when attacked by a strong foe, a male will protect its friends with no regard for its own safety.

Litleo -Lv 35- Pyroar

"I choose Hariyama!" I shouted.

"Use Flamethrower!" Pyroar shot fire at Hariyama. Hariyama was able to handle it.

"Now use Close Combat!" Hariyama attacked Pyroar multiple times to the point of fainting.

"Okay then. Go Claydol!" The Ground/Psychic Type was next, so I recalled Hariyama.

"Go Slowbro!" I responded.

"Claydol, Hyper Beam!" Claydol fired a powerful beam at Slowbro. Slowbro survived and with Claydol not being to move the next turn, we knew we needed to take the opportunity.

"Ice Punch!" Slowbro punched at Claydol with a cold fist. "And do it again!" This Ice Punch was a Critical Hit! Claydol was down!

"Last but not least, Milotic!" A Water Type.

"Mismagius, go!" I shouted. "Use Confuse Ray!" Mismagius radiated weird energy that caused Milotic to get confused.

"Snap out of it and use Hydro Pump! Milotic however hurt itself instead.

"Now use Shock Wave!" Mismagius fired electricity at Milotic.

"Use Hydro Pump!" This time, the Hydro Pump hit.

"Now you've asked for it!" Me and Mismagius surrounded ourselves in Z-Energy. "Ready for a shock of a lifetime? GIGAVOLT HAVOC!" Mismagius fired a bolt of lightning at Milotic. When it hit, it gave Milotic a massive shock. It didn't quite finish it though. Then, Milotic snapped out of its confusion.

"Use Hydro Pump!" However, Hydro Pump missed!

"Now's our chance! Shock Wave!" Mismagius finished off with on last shocking jolt.

She didn't say anything. She just held her nose and breathed through it.

After that battle (and some Repel spray), I turned a corner to find a Pedestal. In it was a Z-Crystal with a snowflake on it.

"That's it!" I said.

"Hold on!" An Ace Trainer and a Veteran came round the corner.

"You just think you can just waltz up a take it?" asked the Veteran.

"Not happening!" the Ace Trainer said. "You'll have to show your strength first!"

"Sounds fair!" I shouted.

"Vikavolt, go!" Kaimana shouted, sending out his Bug and Electric Type.

"I choose Glalie!" Breon yelled. He sent out a round black and white Pokémon with spiky ears.

Its prey is instantaneously frozen stiff by the cold air it exhales from its huge mouth. While they're in that frozen state, it gobbles them up.

"Incineroar, Snorlax! Go!" I shouted.

"Glalie, Blizzard!" Glalie shot a snowstorm out of its mouth that hit Incineroar and Snorlax.

"Incineroar, use Flare Blitz!" Incineroar charged its flaming hot body into Vikavolt for massive damage, but also a lot of recoil to Incineroar.

"Vikavolt, Zap Cannon!" Vikavolt fired a ball of black electricity at Incineroar. It was a direct hit that also paralyzed it.

"Not good. Okay Snorlax, use Crunch!" Snorlax bit down on Vikavolt, knocking it out. Didn't want anymore of that.

"Go Forretress!" The other Pokémon sent out was encased in a pink shell. Its two eyes could be seen from inside.

In the moment that it gulps down its prey, the inside of its shell is exposed, but to this day, no one has ever seen that sight.

Not the best timing, admittedly.

"Glalie, Dark Pulse!" Glalie sent out black energy that hit Snorlax and Incineroar, knocking the latter out. I recalled it.

"Snorlax, use Heavy Slam!" Snorlax jumped onto Glalie, dealing a Super Effective blow to it.

"Forretress, Gyro Ball!" Forretress span round and round, hitting Snorlax.

"My next Pokémon is Hariyama!" I yelled.

"Glalie, Blizzard again!" Another Blizzard was fired. Hariyama was hit, but not Snorlax.

"Hariyama, Reversal!" Hariyama, surrounded in blue energy, punched away the rest of Glalie's HP. "And Snorlax, use Crunch!" Snorlax bit down on Forretress. Its Defense was lowered to.

"Use Payback!" Forretress, remembering the hit, rammed its body into Snorlax.

"Okay Bisharp, go!" The Dark and Steel Type was sent out. "Aerial Ace!" Bisharp dove into Hariyama for Super Effective damage.

"Nice try!" I said. "But Hariyama has had experience fighting the world's most powerful Bisharp! Use Close Combat!" Hariyama punched Bisharp multiple times. It was finished. "Snorlax, Crunch again!" At the very least, Forretress was getting weaker.

"Payback!" Forretress rammed into Snorlax once more. This was a Critical Hit that knocked it out.

"Okay then, final Pokémon. Go Tyranitar!" A Pseudo Legendary to finish? How fitting! Tyranitar was large and green with a menacing appearance that looked straight out of a movie.

This Pokémon is a mobile disaster, leaving mountains crumbled and houses destroyed in its wake.

As Tyranitar came out, a Sandstorm appeared.

"It'zz Sand Stream! Roto! When Tyranitar enterzz, a Sandstorm whipzz up!"

"In that case? Go Slowbro!" I shouted.

"Tyranitar, use Crunch!" Tyranitar sunk its jaws into Slowbro.

"Get it off with Close Combat Hariyama!" Hariyama punched Tyranitar a few times. It was finished it one fell swoop.

"Gyro Ball!" With the Defensive drops, Forretress managed to knock out Hariyama.

"Urgh! Go Lunala!" I shouted. "Moongeist Beam!" One powerful beam was enough to finish Forretress.

"A frosty finish!"

"That's the best you can come up with?"

"Okay," said Breon. "The Icinium Z is yours. You can now use Subzero Slammer." Using his hands, he made shapes going on, then put his arms out. "Try it."

"I will," I said, taking out the Z-Crystal.

I got the Icinium Z!

I healed my gang (for the last time, I was running short on supplies) and knew it was time to get to the summit. But first, I wanted to try out the Z-Move. So, I found a Backpacker. She looked very exhausted.

"Huh. Almost… there…"

"I choose Slowbro!" I shouted.

"Huff! Go Emolga!" A Flying Type! Great! An Electric Type? Bit concerning.

Emolga (エモンガ)

It glides using its cape-like membrane. Electrical energy scatters from it, shocking its friends and foes alike.

Emolga has no known evolutions.

"Huff! Emolga, Discharge!" Emolga fired electricity everywhere. Slowbro got caught in it.

"Let's do it!" Me and Slowbro put our arms out, then did the position. "It's time to let it go Slowbro! SUBZERO SLAMMER!" Slowbro fired a massive cold beam at Emolga. When it made impact, it caused an explosion. Emolga was down in one.

"Huff! Huff!"

Following that, I came out of the cave and reached another elevator. This would lead up to the top. My trek had come to an end. I got on and went up.

Location: Lanakila Summit

At long last, I had reached the Pokémon League.

"Rotom… we've made it." I looked out over the mountain. It was foggy so I couldn't see much aside from maybe Mt. Hokulani. "WE'VE MADE IT!" I said hugging Rotom Dex.

"Yezz! I know we have! Roto!"

I let go and looked at the League. "Tomorrow, we will prepare. The day after? We take it on."

Rotom Dex nodded. "Good idea," just as a call came through. It was Professor Kukui.

"Hey!" he said. "I hope you don't mind waiting two more days for this. Just need to make one final preparation for you. Oh, and someone will come up and see you tomorrow." He logged off.

Great timing. "Our destiny awaits," I said.

Rotom's Move Dex!

Zzt! We've finally made it! Roto! And Elliott got the Icium Z! That meanzz it'zz time for an Ice Type move!

Haze!

So, picture thizz. The oppozzing Pokémon izz very buff. They've juzzt put a few Bulk Upzz on whilzzt you have been Tickled to the point of your stat'zz being too low. Have no fear, Haze izz hear! Zzt zzt! Thizz get'zz rid of all stat changezz of EVERY Pokémon on the field! Handy, huh? Juzzt don't uzze it when your statzz have been rizzen, or they will rezzet to! Roto!

Pokémon that can uzze Haze include Vaporeon, Crobat and Tapu Fini!
