A/N: Another one coming then I sleep... Paradise of Infinity tomorrow... let's see if this schedule works or not.
Konoha's Diplomatic Mission was set up and open to every ninja above the age of 16 but this pretense of voluntary participation was only for civilians. Many shinobi were being deployed to various regions for an indefinite period. This Diplomatic missions were up and running at the start of the second month and the civilians soon noted the shift in the air. The shinobi barely had the luxury of time. Most of the missions were coordinated between the Jonin Commander and the Hokage. While things were safe close to Konoha and the Capital of the Land of Fire, it was only because of the continuous skirmishes wreaking the home of other innocents outside the border of the Land of Fire.
"Remember to return," Mito smiled softly, ruffling Kai's hair as he stood silently. Five months had passed since he began nature transformation training and the results were evident in Tsunade's eyes. When Kai volunteered to participate in the war... Tsunade could not deny the request anymore but had him enlisted in her troops which shocked the fuck out of Hiruzen!
Kai could stay here in peace once it was made clear by Hiruzen that Tsunade's fears were unfounded and he wouldn't force Kai to enter war even if he had Kage-level strength. But Kai thought otherwise. A war between shinobi villages meant he could see a lot more skills and even loot a scroll or two from corpses. He can always master the skills of the home base and he truly had enough strength to participate in the war AND grow with it.
Team Hiruzen finally got their orders today and here he was, bidding his farewell to Mito for the last time possibly.
"Mito-sama..." Kai wondered what he should say. In his previous life, he said nothing to the dead because it was illogical but now he felt he should do the illogical. But what?
"What's with that face? Hmm? I have my hands tied with Kushina with you gone, silly boy." Mito chuckled weakly and leaned back, "When you return... I'll probably be gone. Promise me something, Kai-kun..."
"Of course, Mito-sama. Anything," Kai spoke calmly. He would do anything short of dying for the woman just because of how fond they were of each other.
"Remember one thing when you return. Accept the mission I will have prepared for you without any hesitation."
Kai looked thoughtful for a second and nodded.
"Good boy," Mito smiled and shook her head, "Be on your way or Kushina really will barricade the entire mansion with her seals."
"Yeah," Kai chuckled softly and walked towards the door before taking a deep breath and facing the woman. Bowing his head low, he remarked, "Thank you for everything. I wouldn't have accomplished half of what I have without you!"
"Just half?" Mito raised her dull red brows.
"Yes, the other half is clearly my own contribution," Kai smiled and stood straight before disabling the seal hurriedly placed on the door and leaving.
'Cheeky brat,' Mito smirked.
--
"No! Absolutely not! Remember? I forbade you yesterday! You have to listen to me!" Kushina stood at the entrance with an enranged expression yet tears filtering out of her eyes non-stop. She saw in despair how utterly easily Kai undid her seals and stood in front of her as she covered the entrance of the mansion with her arms spread open. Sadly, the door was twice Kushina's size but Kai gave her emotions enough respect to not notice that and stand in front of Kushina.
Tearstricken, Kushina stood with utter determination while her tiny frame trembled. She looked positively haggard as Kai knew she hadn't slept yesterday and the last thing he felt was annoyance. Boy! He would need to be a special kind of ass hat to feel annoyed by someone going so far to try and protect him even if he didn't need any.
Walking toward the girl as she still had her arms open, Kai stretched out his arm and coiled his arm around her back as Kushina was stunned and soon began to cry loudly. This was her last-ditch effort. While Tsunade accepted Kai's application, she rejected Mikoto's, Kushina's, and Nono's request to enter the war. Oh, Tsunade didn't care even if they WANTED to. Their wants meant little when the Senju was sure the girls would die and probably still have their corpses railed. War is fucked up.
As such, Kushina could only try this and fail. But, she suddenly wrapped her arms around Kai and growled, "I won't let you go!"
"Kushina, I'm really happy," Kai smiled, resting his chin on her left shoulder while Kushina sobbed while nuzzling against his shoulder, "But you've got to get better at seals if you want to stop me. And get even stronger if you want to go against the Hokage's order. And... stronger than me, of course."
Kai's hug grew tighter as Kushina closed her eyes, choking on her sobs, "Thank you so much for caring for me. If you were as beautiful as Sensei, I'd probably would have the necessary reactions for you to stop me." He chuckled as Kushina only buried her head into his chest realizing how futile her actions were.
"You're supposed to stay with me... and be my guardian!" She uttered softly.
"Got it," he cooed, not even finding it strange to coax Kushina as he'd been doing it for some time now, "My fart machine, I'll be back," he mused but Kushina was silent.
Kai... did expect a reaction but looking down, he found Kushina already passed out from exhaustion.
Pursing his lips, Kai flickered away and lay Kushina on his bed before scribbling down the same words and left with a refreshed smile, feeling a lot more filled due to Kushina.
He is supposed to leave with Tsunade in Senju Compound and leave with her. As he reached the area, he found familiar faces.
"Hey!" Kai smirked at the yawning Tsume who perked up while her Ninken, Kuromaru stood on his four, his tail wagging excitedly when Cinnamon slipped her head out of his sleeves.
"Finally! I didn't want to miss ya leaving for the wa— uh... the mission so I pulled Mikoto with me!"
She looked around and tilted her head strangely, "Where's Kushina? You've got her scent all over on you."
"She fell asleep," Kai shrugged and he looked at Mikoto just staring at him with a pout, "What's up with you?"
"You know very well what!" She hissed and crossed her arms.
"Ah, bummer." Kai smiled and hugged Tsume, making her yelp a little before the pup grinned and hugged him back with all her strength as Kuromaru tried to jump and lick Cinnamon's precious head before she slithered into his sleeves.
"Best of luck, Alpha Kai!" She grinned, baring her canines as Kai snickered, "Yep! Gotta let the world know that you didn't follow the wrong alpha, huh."

He then looked at Mikoto before opening his arms.
"What?" She inquired dryly, fidgeting somewhat.
"Come on, bring it in! Kushina and Tsume got it right? This just may be the last time you ever get—"
Mikoto threw a blunt kunai at him as he evaded easily but she was upon him the next second, throwing herself in his still stretched-out arms with her thin body trembling slightly, "Kai-chan... you shouldn't be going to war. It's different than our regular missions!" Her voice threatened to crack into choked sobs and she clenched her hands on his chest, clutching the collar of his clothes, "But... you have to make it alive and now become the youngest Jonin. I won't expect any less because Sensei allowed you and not us to follow her..."
"Youngest Jonin, huh... I think I can manage it," Kai chuckled as Mikoto pulled back and looked at him with her eyes slightly red and her Sharingan with two tomoes rotating about.
"Good luck," she strained a smile while rubbing her eyes and wiping away any wayward sweat that might have dripped from her eyes.
"Right on time, huh," Tsunade arrived with Nono as she looked around. Not many were around with most shinobi on the war front and Tsunade thanked her lucky stars to have equipped them with everything she could. The reports of accidental traps near allies or ill-informed missions wrought the Senju team but they were surviving and growing. Tsunade wondered if her clan would have been wiped out by now. Her compound was safe, too. Retired nins aren't called for action. Ever.
It's a prestige to have lived till the age of retirement and even the Hokage can't demand any actions from them so these shinobi will keep things safe here. Even Nono was forbidden to leave the compound since whoever was targeting the Senju will target her, too.
Yet, she was still a little worried. While children under the age of 16 may not go to the war front but they would be expected to carry out missions within the border to keep the village functioning. Mikoto and Kushina were already experienced Chunins but... she worried for Nawaki. Yet, she has done everything she could. The thought irked her but... she steeled her heart. She must believe in the strength of her clan and apprentices that she'd cultivated and even then, Hiruzen was clear that children will only be given missions if there are no other shinobi available.
"Goodbye~ and come back. I'm told that this kind of charm is the best!" Nono tiptoed forward while adjusting her glasses and leaned forward to peck his lips. He closed his eyes for a second and flared his chakra, making Nono disappear, and looked at the smiling and silent girl with thinly veiled worry in her eyes.
"I'll be back for more," Kai smiled, and Nono giggled.
Tsunade shook her head and glanced at others, "Take care, all you brats... and don't let me find out that any of you are skipping on your training!"
As they left, Tsunade inquired softly of the seemingly harmless boy but armed to his very teeth, "Ready? I won't have you slowing me down!"
"That's why you rejected Kushina and Mikoto but not me~!" His chortle made her smile, "Damn cheeky for someone entering a war... but keep it that way. I could use some cheekiness around me."
Kai chuckled and looked at his stats briefly, wondering what kind of things he could gain in the war.

The grind over the past 5 months was... exquisite. He chose water transformation practice because he did not want to let the skill water bullets he had already purchased go to waste. But he chose earth transformation because of its more useful defense skills. The best part... he did not waste any SP purchasing any other skill!
Mission contributions gave him the right to enter the archives and choose the Quicksand Stream. Meanwhile, Tsunade taught him the rest of the skills privately. Her personal knowledge of his strength was the reason she allowed him to follow her without even putting any form of resistance!
Taijutsu good enough to throw hands with most chunins and come out on top.
Genjutsu devilish enough to be used freely and stun a few unprepared opponents to land a killing strike.
Iryo Ninjutsu to increase his survivability alongside knowledge of poisons lacing his weapons that made sure any enemy hit doesn't live for long while preparing hundreds of antidotes and sealing them in a scroll.
Multi-purpose Fuinjutsu seals read for actions.
Fatal prank devices.
And now Ninjutsu skills to cover the last base.
He was more prepared than an average Jonin!
What made him a bit sad was that his growth spurt concerning chakra came to an end and grinding was barely enough. Yet, he was more than aware of why Shinobi who win 'gets stronger' in enough time. It's a basic tested and verified theory, really. Chakra being part spiritual and physical make sure that physical growth and mental growth aside from chakra expenditure go hand-in-hand with Chakra growth. The grind is supreme, but sometimes growth demands experience.
Kai wanted that.
His body and mind will be tested in this war and it will cause him to grow stronger ONLY if he survives the ordeal thrown at him.
'Huh... now that I think about it... In the movies of my previous world, supreme talents did raise a few flags...
A crying dame begging for his return, check.
An old and aged woman's last words of encouragement, check.
A junior's admiration, check.
A teammate's tsundere act, check.
A kiss, check.
And even going with a bombshell that would replace the female protagonist and may have a character development if someone really close to her dies... fuck! What the hell did I sign up for?!'
Shoutout to Shoelace and Kedabe!!

{A/N Explicit content in the form of brutality ahead.}
"What happens next?" Kai inquired as Jiraiya hummed thoughtfully while they crouched under the canopy of a tree. His question was met with an even eager reply, "Well, Kai-kun, of course, they had a tumble under the blanket! The boy's luck is so good that he accidentally strips his crush and slips into her... hehe, if you know what I mean." Jiraiya's nostrils flared with a perverted grin as Kai's gaze grew amused, too. Damn, Jiraiya's protagonist was damn lucky!
"Oh, he knows what you mean. But I think you two didn't know what I meant when I said, prepare for setting the outpost!" A cold, biting voice made Kai and Jiraiya flinch when Jiraiya went poof and disappeared. Bastard!
Kai stood up, still not looking back, and adjusted his clothes. He now wore the clothes provided to him in the form of a green flak jacket over his usual attire and turned on his heels to find an amused Senju staring him down.
"Jiraiya-san wanted me to... give him feedback."
"And? What is it?" Wearing a mix between black clothes and grey armor strapped on her torso that just made her already tightly wrapped breasts spill out a bit and a chokuto strapped on her back for emergencies, Tsunade gave Kai not a moment to think and he, too, replied in a snap, "It's ridiculous! A man with that kind of luck would be riddled with sexually transmitted—"
Thuck*
Her fist landed on his head straight as he winced and rubbed his head with a pout.
"I thought I was given 15 minutes to rest, Sensei..."
"There is no rest in war," Orochimaru chuckled and walked over, "Besides, you're the youngest in our force. You have to show a level of competence or others will cast their doubts on Tsunade." He ruffled Kai's hair as it flashed green and healed him, revealing that the man had mastered the mystical palm technique before the war to increase his own chances of survival.
"You heard him. Back to your position," Tsunade barked as Kai nodded and walked towards a group of shinobi and kunoichi settling into their ranks and position as Kai took the first spot in the second row. With the youngest, aside from him, being a 14-year-old chunin from the Hyuga Branch Family named Hizashi. Still, the two attracted quite a bit of attention as Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru stood in front of 20 shinobi of Konoha as Jiraiya flashed Kai a short, apologetic smirk.
"We are ordered to infiltrate Amegakure and eradicate a village close to the borders of the Land of Fire that is suspected to be in contact with shinobi of Iwagakure." Orochimaru began and instantly noted a few shinobi feeling uncomfortable. Although ninjas are expected to eradicate their feelings, they can hardly ever achieve that as the man mused about what they would feel if they realize that they were about to slaughter innocents under Hanzo's request.
But these weren't something soldiers needed to know. Tsunade and Jiraiya had stoic expressions, too, yet Orochimaru knew they are bleeding from within. That's why he took charge amongst the three of them in the first place.
Describing the location, Orochimaru and others flickered away as they infiltrated the Land of Rain.
As its name would suggest, it almost always rained in Amegakure and the surrounding civilian villages had a hard, weary life.

Two boys ran in the rain as their bare feet caused splashes along the way, making the two clearly malnourished and thin boys giggle while their presence barely managed to uplift the spirits or surrounding men and women either slumping down while covering themselves with anything they could find or eating through their usual wet and soggy food with only a few of them having rooftops over their heads.
Fwish*
Cutting through the gentle drizzles was a pair of shurikens that suddenly pierced through the two boys' heads as they fell into a puddle of mud water with the shurikens themselves exploding into a small poof revealing two shinobi in green flak jackets. The frozen men and women couldn't even comprehend what had just occurred when the two men rushed in the opposite direction with a kunai that promptly sliced through the necks of defenseless villagers.
Such scenes happened all around the village as twenty men and women massacred the entirety of the village. Well, almost all of them. As usual, a few bad apples are what it takes to turn the entire basket rotten.
"P-please! St—" The woman's shriek was cut off by a rough hand as the woman's eyes widened while the dark-haired middle-aged man with red fang marks on his cheeks tore the woman's dress with his other hand. Yet—
He suddenly jumped back, expecting his loyal Ninken to follow but a figure blurred in and jabbed fingers into the brown-furred ninken as a senbon pierced the woman's head next second.
Kai and Hizashi Hyuga looked at each other before diverting their gazes in the Inuzuka's shinobi's direction.
"What the hell?" The man growled and was ready to attack as he saw his ninken paralyzed when a brown-spotted snake coiled around the man and dragged him out of the hut, flinging him in front of Orochimaru, Tsunade, and Jiraiya as the other shinobi tensed up and the youngest duo walked out of the hut, too, with the ninken nowhere to be seen.
The snake loosened its hold, allowing the man to gasp for his breath and indicating the strength of the constriction while the snake itself retracted before turning back into Orochimaru's arm.
"Teta Inuzuka, would you please help me understand if I gave you the orders to release your primal urges of dominance, most notable in the Inuzuka clan, on any civilian?" Orochimaru smiled gently as others looked at the kneeling man with a cold expression. His dazed look made them even more frustrated, especially the other Inuzuka Kunoichi.
"N- No, Sir..." The man claimed as the next second, Jiraiya's sword merely flickered and the man's head separated from his body with a geyser of blood gushing out.
"Thank you for that, Jiraiya," Orochimaru looked at others and continued, "Until stated otherwise, Team Hiruzen is leading the platoon. If one of us orders you to kill, you only kill. If one of us orders you to whip out your private parts and please prisoners, you do it. There will be no conflict in the three of our commands, you can be sure of that. Deviate, one of us will execute you on the grounds of committing traitorous actions.
Now, well done, Kai-Kun, Hizashi-kun. With that being said, we shall set up traps around the village and form an outpost in foliage not too far. Kai-kun's and Jiraiya's expertise in Fuinjutsu will be much appreciated."
Others nodded and began removing their traces aside from the obviously dead villagers as Hizashi walked up to Kai, his lavender, pupil-less eyes appraising him until he opened up, "I'm Hizashi Hyuga."
Kai nodded and smiled, chirping despite the blood on his hand, "I heard. Nice to meet you."
"Hn," the youth nodded and began to walk away when a large arm coiled around his neck and pulled him away, "Oi, oi, Kai, are you feeling alright?" Jiraiya smiled, "You've killed before but if it becomes hard, you know... they're innocent and even children... come to me. Remember what I said?"
"Nothing like a breast to squeeze to forget murder and firm pair of buttocks to spank for the sound of agonized screams to leave forever." Kai beamed as Jiraiya chortled, "That's my boy!"
In reality, it didn't affect him all that much... and unfortunately, he would need to thank the Gamer Mind in his previous life.
Logic is a cruel thing. To Kai, back them, killing is killing. Child, man, woman, elderly, chicken, puppy, cat, buffalo. It's all the same and while he didn't have Gamer Mind, he had his memories. He was used to it by now and used logical reasoning to avoid complicated philosophy. This just makes Kai feel more in control because if he wants to kill, he will. If he doesn't, he won't even when pushed to the brink.
Setting up a hidden entrance was easy and the group was soon stationed around the hidden entrance but Kai only silently looked at Jiraiya who gushed over some smut idea. He could sense the intention behind every chakra source and closest to him also happened to be the biggest source of guilt and remorse. How Jiraiya could even talk about smut... was not something Kai could comprehend but he did realize that perversion wasn't just Jiraiya's antics but also his coping mechanism.
Orochimaru felt largely indifferent. His amusement only flickered when the man would either look at his teammates or Kai himself, which the boy was used to. It's not like he was meeting Orochimaru for the first time and every time they met, Orochimaru would have the same reaction.
Tsunade... was worried. About what or whom, Kai didn't know. But she soon arrived at the branch he was stationed at once Jiraiya left and inquired softly with a slightly concerned glance, "How are you holding up?"
'Aw... she was worried about me... now I feel bad about thinking of ways to get into her wardrobe again...'
Kai smiled slightly and reassured her, "This isn't enough to make me a mess, Sensei. I promised not to hold you back, remember?"
Snorting through her nostrils, Tsunade forcefully rubbed his head and scoffed, "No need to play the big man... and listen... if being around Jiraiya really helps, do it. I understand."
Kai blinked and then snickered.
"What?" Tsunade frowned, already fearing the worst that Kai had lost his mind.
"Hah, nothing. I'm just wondering what kind of reaction Jiraiya-san would have if he heard you approving of him."
"I ain't approving anything, squirt!" Tsunade balled her fist but instead of knocking one down, she paused for a brief second and then ruffled his hair again, "Be careful. Not only for the enemy nins but also the other shinobi. Someone may just lose his mind and attack you out of nowhere."
"I understand," Kai smiled as Tsunade flickered away.
But it was clear that this wasn't all.
"Are you doing well, Kai-kun?" Orochimaru soon arrived, making Kai resist the urge to roll his eyes.
Unlike Jiraiya who felt too burdened and Tsunade concerned for his well-being, the snake was too curious to feel anything else.
"Yep," Kai smirked as Orochimaru raised his brow inquisitively, "Even after killing a child about your age?"
Kai looked a bit thoughtful before replying, "It was either me, or old age, or another shinobi. That's all."
Orochimaru sat down beside Kai and chuckled, "Isn't that the truth... sigh, scenes like this always make me question my own mortality."
"Oh? I figured if there's anyone who would want to conquer death, it would be you, Orochimaru-san."
"Really, why's that?" Orochimaru looked at the boy.
"I have to believe that if a shinobi can create a drop of water from their chakra then they can also conquer death. It's not really a leap, but a series of steps."
"Series of steps... huh... amazing thought process, Kai-kun. You've actually given me a lot to think about!" And with that, Orochimaru just disappeared while Kai shrugged.
'Happy to help!'
--
They stationed themselves near the village for only the first day and then left. In reality, no enemy was coming to the village. THEY were the enemies themselves! Yet, Orochimaru's orders were clear and they eradicated another two villages as per Hanzo's request. That was all they needed to do for the man besides paying in scrolls and ryo to run amok his land and meet Iwagakure nins for battle.
The constant rain does make most of their famed fire release jutsus suppressed but the earth release jutsu related to mud and quicksand becomes harder to deal with!
It was easy to see Jiraiya's condition deteriorate. This was the experienced shinobi's first war and after having gone through two villages in quick succession, even Tsunade looked slightly mentally exhausted as Orochimaru executed another fellow shinobi for finally breaking and trying to lay his hands on the only surviving boy.
"So? Your Byakugan can see through anything at a level of perception you choose?" Kai inquired as Hizashi stoically nodded. Damn! That meant the Byakugan users could see through clothes, skin, and organs based on their choice! Talk about a perfect peeping device!
As if seeing through Kai's thoughts, Hizashi snorted softly, "We Hyugas are not that low."
"Hey, some of them are bound to do this, believe me." Kai shrugged and Hizashi grew silent as they continued to pee in silence.
Once done with the last bit of wiggle, Kai zipped himself up and washed his hands in the rain.
"Why did you approach me?" Hizashi inquired.
"I was curious about your eyes. My teammate has a Sharingan and I wanted to compare which one of the two is a better dojutsu."
"And?" Hizashi raised his brow.
"Are you kidding me? There's no competition! Byakugan all the way, my man!" This made Hizashi smile but it faded as soon as Kai continued, "Who needs a dynamic vision, ability to cast high-level genjutsu with a glance, and the ability to copy techniques when you can see through clothes! Ah, come on, Hizashi-san. Don't leave, I meant every word I said!"

Even in war, Shinobi fight battles using deception and intelligence over the other party and NOT an open ground while firing off Jutsus upon Jutsus— who would have thought?!
But this made Hizashi's presence much more critical as he claimed that his Byakugan had the perception close to the range of 5 kilometers if he focuses on it seriously and he can see through pretty much everything... lucky dog!
But this did give him an idea that he wanted to pursue later.
"There are 7 of them. Two Jonins and 5 Chunins based on their chakra reserves." The veins around Hizashi's eyes were bulging due to the increased blood flow into his eyes as his usually pupil-less eyes showed a cluster of concentrated irises that gave the likeness of pupils in his eyes. This is what an activated byakugan looks like.
"And what are they doing?" Orochimaru questioned.
"More than killing..." Hizashi's expression grew dark.
"Ah, this is why you ONLY kill. Remember everyone. There are professionals called whores and personal amusement known as mates to try these activities on. Move out. Jonin Yusuke, Log, and Utsu will form an encirclement around the villages to cut off any paths of retreat for Iwa-nins and civilians. Hizashi, incapacitate one of the chunins. Kai-kun, I'll evaluate your skills against a Jonin for future commands so you will follow me. Tsunade and Jiraiya, the two of you will take out the other Jonin."
With that, the group set out and it was quite a sight the village was in under Iwa's shinobi and it was clear the same thing could have happened in their group if Orochimaru didn't promptly execute the two men to set an example. The total number of shinobi that attacked the seven iwa-nins was exactly thrice in quantity!
The Jonins reacted quick enough as one of them evaded two snakes tearing from the ground in an effort to constrict him yet Kai cut off the path of retreat by jumping down on the main while stabbing forward with a kunai.
As the Iwa-Nin scoffed, dodging the Kunai midair by leaning away, he punched at Kai's head which promptly exploded in a gush of water while the kunai Transformed into the real Kai as he had only needed a single seal to form a C-rank Jutsu— Water Bullets.
A magazine of pressurized bullets struck the man who was again, quicker than most Kai had ever seen and crossed his arms in front of his chest and face to block the blow as it caused his arms to bleed... but not fracture as he shot into the ground where Orochimaru waited and he sliced the man in half with the sword on his back.
Quick and precise with not wanting their enemy to have enough time to turn the tables.
The seven Iwa Nins were taken care of with one burly youth, still naked and paralyzed captured by Hizashi who then killed the unfortunate and bleeding lass.
"Hmm, good job," Orochimaru smiled, "Jiraiya, contact Sensei and tell him that Chunin Kito and Jonin Utsu are going to be bringing a prisoner for information."
"Sure," Jiraiya sighed sullenly.
While Orochimaru questioned his mortality, Jiraiya was forced to choose between his loyalty and morals and until now, Loyalty kept winning.
"And it seems that we can make a perfect scouting party using Kai-kun and Hizashi-kun," Orochimaru directed everyone's attention as he commanded with a smile, "Until we receive the next batch of intel, you will act as our eyes. I want you to locate villages being occupied by shinobi. I assure you that for reasons related to war, not all shinobi would destroy the villages and would use the villagers in a more... lasting manner. It will be our job to liberate the villages but NOT kill them."
It was clear to Orochimaru that Hanzo would go bat shit crazy if they destroy the country without any regard so he didn't intend to demolish everything. Instead, he wanted to get a good measure of Amegakure— the second part of their mission. Gather enough intelligence and if possible, remove the threat known as Hanzo once and for all. That way, Amegakure would be up for grabs and that could divert the nature of war from devouring Konoha to get a piece of Ame. After all, the Land of Rain had no political umbrella known as the Daimyo and only had one Hanzo. His death would lead to a power vacuum and attract power-hungry flies.
The Iwa prisoner was soon taken away with Jiraiya sending the report to the Hokage with strange means of his own that amazed Kai.
--
Three more months have passed since Kai left the village. After the first month of skirmish and setting an outpost, it was just the act of finding their enemies sooner than they found them. The Land of Rain was only so big and it was becoming increasingly aware to Iwagakure-nins that their advance to the Konoha was being blocked by a rather advanced quality of shinobi and it was true, in some regards.
Well, those who survived the skirmishes aside from the three leaders numbered upto 14 with four more deaths during one siege against the Explosion Corp of Iwagakure. Many, including Kai, were injured in that battle, requiring them three days to heal themselves completely but that wasn't all. Jiraiya was forced to take the delivery mission of supplies to reinvigorate him. There was not a shred of doubt in Orochimaru's or Tsunade's mind about what kind of recovery method he would have but they only hoped the man would return quickly enough.
Clang*
Kai kept a casual smile as his kunai was parried by a middle-aged man who was shocked by his appearance. They weren't in a village but close to one of the central outposts of Iwa as the man suddenly heard a snake's hiss around him and the next second, a giant snake tore through the tree behind him and constricted around him. A hint of panic flashed in the man's eyes but the world promptly shifted and he barely dodged Kai's kunai after being free of the genjutsu, his skin only scratched by the tip of the kunai, thankfully.
"It's a good day to not have any rain, right?" Kai smiled. Even with dark clouds hanging over Ame constantly, there wasn't any rain and the shinobi frowned at his words. Scoffing, his hands hurriedly weaved a few seals before coming to a stop as his body remained paralyzed and the next second Kai's kunai passed through the man's head.
"Phew..." Smilingly, Kai flickered away as three Iwa shinobi arrived at the location seven minutes later with a deep scowl.
"It's the fifth time already!" One of them balled their fists while the other sighed, "Retreat. We need to ask for immediate reinforcements."
"That's not possible, Ame-nins are beginning to act up now... we have to entirely retreat."
--
"I can't believe this!" Kai groaned out loud but others, including Hizashi, only smiled when they heard his energetic words, "Iwagakure was stocking on genin fodders right? We barely fought any! No kekkei genkais, too. And here I was thinking that there'd be a huge battle where my name would spread in the village as the youngest war hero! The youngest jonin!" Kai continued to play his part as he sensed everyone's mood-brightening.
Oh, all of them were now aware something was fundamentally screwed up about the boy but they accepted their comrade in his given condition because they felt if he wasn't here to liven others up, many would be executed to try and NOT kill someone. Not everyone was like Jiraiya, who was allowed to leave for three days and return refreshed!
"It's not a tale, Kai-kun," Orochimaru smirked as Tsunade huffed, "And you better get that attitude in check. Still, I didn't think Hanzo would close his borders this quickly."
"It's all to earn more. By closing the Iwa-Konoha front until one of the villages is ready to invade Ame in full force, the man is practically controlling the flow of war as Konoha can now focus on Suna and Kumo alone. The two villages would need to spend a fortune to make Hanzo open his borders once again," Jiraiya sighed while Kai felt quite amazed at this.
War really IS a profitable business.
Still, he was awaiting the rewards of his first war quest.
[War Quest: Amegakure Front
Summary: Follow the directive of the war council and accomplish the objectives laid by the platoon's commander to facilitate the success of one of the many skirmishes in war.
Rewards: 14 SP, New Title
Failure: Demotion]
Kai smirked, feeling quite happy with his efforts. Even when the grind was paused, his growth was stellar these three months.

Kushina's eyes darted around as she lay on the cold metallic table with the edge of her top pulled up as Mito stoically drew seals on Kushina's stomach while the nervous tomato could feel stares from every corner of the room in the form of masked men and women guarding the dim room with the only source of light being a lantern not far away from Kushina.
"Dear, do you remember everything I told you beforehand?" Mito inquired as Kushina steeled her nerves and nodded with a look of determination. As sad as she was... at the moment, she was even more scared. The seal on her navel began with a swirl reminiscent of the Uzumaki Clan's insignia with many scribbles placed tightly together in the form of a spider's web.
Mito smiled and sat beside Kushina as she pulled her clothes away without a hint of shame as her body was fully covered by seal marks. While she wore undergarments of the highest quality despite her aging figure, there was a big gaping wound in her stomach in the form of a perfect circle that led to nothingness.
Under the masked Anbu's nervous gaze, thick crimson chakra bubbled out from the wound in Mito's body and she sat down beside Kushina's legs and placed her hands on the girl's stomach. As if attracted to something, the chakra instantly coated Mito's body and began entering the seal mark on Kushina's stomach before her vision spun and she found herself in a world of golden glow.
There was no particular footing but she felt the 'ground' and looked in horror as a mass of chakra congealed before her violet pupils as a pair of menacing red eyes with vertical pupils locked onto her.
"I'LL TEAR YOU!!" The titanic dark-orange-furred fox lunged towards Kushina as her body froze yet before the claw nail dozens of times larger than her entire frame could crush her, an equally gigantic chain with a soft yellow glow shot through the beast's claw and pierced in from under the fox's neck before coiling around its face and yanking it down as if a rag doll. Kushina blinked into awakening and felt the thick chain's presence familiar to Mito's. Yet, despite its presence, it was waning.
Biting her lower lip, Kushina glared at the struggling fox as dozens of similar chains grew out from nowhere. They were barely 1/10th the size of the chain conjured by Mito on her last leg yet Kushina waved her hand and the chains shot forward instantly. The spear-tipped chains stabbed into all the nine giant fox tails of the beast before coiling around him as the beast's struggle intensified but Kushina roused the chakra in her palm and slapped her stomach before tugging on the seals of her stomach and moving them in the opposite direction of the swirl.
The seal marks around her body began to gradually close up as a form of large rock was conjured in what Kushina was sure happened to be mind space and it silently had the chains of her kekkei genkai linked into it.
"WAIT!" the fox roared the moment the thickest chain disappeared and realizing what it meant, Kushina wanted nothing to do with the fox as it continued, "THAT BITCH IS—"
A chain instantly tore out from behind the fox named Kyubi and coiled around his muzzle, shutting him before Kushina willed herself out of the mental space quickly and sat up with a gasp.
Yet, her expression froze as tears began to spill again while Mito lay over her lap with a peaceful smile on her face.
Mito Uzumaki passed away.

Kai sat there in a daze like usual, not even being able to pay Kushina any attention as she was curled up on the other side of the familiar bed. He had rushed here straight after returning to the village to have his chances of meeting Mito again get a bit higher...
He grimaced slightly as his hand reached out to where a familiar set of feet would be waiting for him to massage. Heaving a forceful breath, Kai closed his eyes and then snapped them open. He wasn't a kid and he was prepared for it in the first place. Mito... had a special place in his heart but he has seen death in his previous life and even more in this one. He didn't have tears for Mito but a promise. A promise he intended to keep not to repay any favors.
You can't repay the favors to a dead. Just that he'd made a promise and he didn't have Gamer Mind breathing down his neck like last time to have him break all those promises. But again, he could feel Kushina's sadness. She was heartbroken. But when he dug deeper, he felt that maelstrom of everything that is raging and vindictive within her. Yet... Kai was a little surprised when that presence was somewhat weaker.
He still cannot even hope to fathom the strength of the Bijuu within Kushina but he was sure the beast was weak for some reason.
"Kai... I miss her..." Kushina whispered, feeling even worse now. Kai had returned safe and sound but she couldn't muster a shred of joy or relief at the moment as the thought of Mito lifelessly laying on her legs back then flashed in front of her eyes.
"Yeah, I miss her, too," Kai whispered and changed the subject, "What about you? And..."
"It's a damn fox... dattebane..." Kushina growled before weakly ending it off and explaining softly while slowly shuffling and sitting up before hugging her knees with a despondent expression, "Everyone who knows about Kyubi never told me how dangerous it was. Kai... it was so big... if it wasn't for Grandma Mito, I would have been devoured. But she... she left me with not only the fox but everything."
She looked at him, both of their gazes flashing in sadness again but they were interrupted by one of the servants, "Kushina-sama, Tsunade-sama is here—"
A body flickered into their room. It was Tsunade who pulled a chair for herself and spoke softly, "Sensei just told me after I gave the complete report..."
"Oh..." was the only response Kai could muster while Kushina crawled over to him and buried her head in his lap, silently hugging his waist while he stroked her hair. Even before they became genins, it was apparent to Kushina that Kai was more mature than her and that had led her to tease him often about many things but now she thanked her lucky stars that there was someone for her, or she didn't know what she would have done...
Tsunade merely shared the silence with them. Not offering anything because she had nothing to offer. What should she share? Her own sadness? The only reason she could hold it better than Kushina was her added experience but her clenched fists still quivered.
Realizing something, Kai looked at Tsunade, "Did we miss the funeral?"
"About that..." Tsunade frowned and exhaled a gloomy sigh, "The Hokage has sent a summon for you but you may be excused this time for not making it on time."
Although still a boy and a quirky one at that, Tsunade felt after what the boy had achieved these past few months, treating him like a child, a pitiful one at that would be a recipe for disastrous disrespect. Still, he was a boy and she knew how much Mito doted on him. More than Nawaki and Kushina, too, Tsunade knew. Her hands just fell on his head and as he silently stroked Kushina's head, her hand stroked the top of his head and gently ruffled through his hair.
--
Mikoto looked at the masked shinobi waiting for her in front of the entrance of their compound and nodded. With Tsunade and Kai entering the war front and leaving them behind, Mikoto found her time occupied by missions. Escort missions, delivery missions, and whatnot. Most of it had turned into simpler C-rank missions but Kushina wasn't allowed to take any and that made Mikoto drift from one team to another. What came from this was the fact that she became more well-known.
Not that she was given any chance to care for it. Not having Kushina in missions didn't change a thing as they would train with Nono in the Senju Compound whenever possible to push themselves forward but recent events made Mikoto confused.
Sharingan has three stages, each marked with an addition of a black tomoe mark in their pupils. The base Sharingan has one tomoe, when further developed, it will have two tomoe marks and then finally three. Each development brings an initial strain to the body and a need for recalibration of how the body should move to keep up with the enhanced dynamic vision... but Mikoto was surprised by what caused this development.
Wheel of Love, her father claimed Sharingan to be in a fit of humor than the Circle of Hatred. She felt helpless, a little too much. The thought of not being there for the boy and the consequence of that being his death, or worse circumstances, just pulled something out of her. It tugged on her again but not hard enough when she found Kushina once the death of Mistress Mito was announced.
These past few months truly have been wearier ever with many beginning to realize what the Diplomatic Missions really were. News of such kind cannot really be hidden.
Yet the moment she entered the Hokage office, finding three weary figures with bleak expressions alongside the Hokage behind his desk and the three elders on the seats in front of the table, Mikoto felt a little unnerved. She hadn't known that Kai and Sensei had returned but the Hokage seemed more intent to pursue another aim for this meeting and inhaled deeply from his pipe before speaking with the usual warmth in his tone, "Ah, Mikoto-kun, you will have time to share your experience with Kai-kun and Tsunade later. I do apologize for asking you on such short notice when you returned just a few hours ago yourself."
Making it clear, Hiruzen seemed to be focusing on Kai and let his lips tug into a sad smile, "I'm sorry for your loss, Kai-kun, Mito-san was an inspiration to all of us."
Kai wanted to cut short that he needed nothing of this. Inspiration? What a joke! She was pure menace restrained only by her wrinkles. The kind of grandma who'd either force cookies or a violent thrashing! She was no inspiration but a figure to fear and love... and aspire to become.
But it wouldn't do to blow his fuse until he could beat the man's ugly mug... damn he was irritated!
"Before leaving Kushina-chan with everything as her successor, Mito-san wishes for her body to be delivered to the Uzumaki Clan. Her last wish dictated that this mission should be given to Team Tsunade and none other. For that reason, we waited and preserved Mito-san's body in the hospital. She's been fully sealed and aside from that, Mito-san also wishes a sealed object to be delivered to Uzushiogakure."
The room was in heavy silence as Team Tsunade processed the information before Tsunade grunted with an annoyed scowl, "There's a but, isn't it? Would've thought you'd save our time from your theatrics and just be on with it."
Hiruzen sighed and nodded, "But in this sensitive moment, Konohagakure cannot allow Kushina to leave. This mission, if chosen to be accepted as Mito-san kept it optional for you, must be undertaken with Team Tsunade excluding Kushina Uzumaki."
The redhead bit her lower lip with obvious indignance while Tsunade narrowed her eyes, "And why are the three elders still present?"
Not letting Hiruzen speak for him, Danzo spoke up, "Because it is in Konoha's interest that such a decisively strong team doesn't leave the village or you may get targeted by the enemies. For that reason, we're here to persuade you."
"No!" Kushina snapped with a shocked expression, "At least let Grandma get her last wish dattebane!"
"Kushina-chan, the war is quite dangerous—"
"But after so much Grandma has done!" Kushina interjected with a less than moderate growl as she was burnt off of tears and she did NOT take the news kindly with her hair swaying gently due to the outrageous outburst of chakra in her words.
"Kushina!" Tsunade glared at the girl sternly while Mikoto had a deep frown. Not at Kushina's well-founded outburst but Danzo's following words as he spoke patiently, "A shinobi must become a tool and toss away their emotions."
'Your fucking mom is the village's tool, dumb bitch,' Kai scoffed internally and stated after a moment of another heavy silence as Tsunade didn't know which direction to take.
"Chunin Kai advises Team Leader Tsunade to accept the mission with the village's condition," Kai shrugged as if he wasn't despondent just a few seconds ago.
Danzo and the other elders frowned but having had enough of this farce, Tsunade hummed, "Suggestion noted. We will take this mission, Sensei."
"Understood," Hiruzen leaned back with a soft sigh and nodded, "Everyone except the elders and Kushina should return to the office tomorrow at 4 am for the mission's briefing."
--
"There, there... why the hell are you guys so intent on hugging me? Don't get me wrong, it feels good now that you finally started growing—" Interrupting his monologue that tainted the heartwarming hug Mikoto intended for it to be by shoving him away with a snort, the girl held Kushina's hand as Nono seemed to have forgotten her usual airheadedness and sat not far away from them.
"We will recover," Tsunade looked at the kids in front of her, "In my experience, Time is the definition of best iryo nin. It heals all wounds. What we're feeling now may never pass but we WILL live to adapt to it. Remember, our life and missions work alongside the possibility of death. Besides, even if I didn't see it, I am willing to bet everything that Grandma died with a smile."
Kushina flinched but then heaved a deep breath and nodded, "She did."
"Hmm," Tsunade nodded and cast a brief glance in Kai's direction who recovered his blank expression and nodded inwardly. Hurting or not, it was Kai who suggested that they took the mission and it wouldn't do if the boy was breaking apart.
Changing the topic, Tsunade looked at Kushina and sighed softly, "Kushina... Jinchurikis are restricted but I'm sure the clan in Uzushiogakure would have at least told you what was expected of you even if not speaking anything about Bijuu, right?"
Kushina nodded with a disgruntled huff while Nono pointed her obliviousness to the word, "Bijuu?"
"Right, it wouldn't do if ignorance on the matter and a few rumors caused misunderstanding within ourselves."
And with that, Tsunade explained once and for all to the group about Bijuu, Mito being a Jinchuriki of the strongest Bijuu, the Nine-tailed fox Kyubi, and how only individuals with astonishingly large chakra reserves can only hope to seal the chakra beast and suppress it under their own.
Nono nodded, accepting the information with a hint of healthy eagerness while Mikoto's hand squeezed Kushina's palm a little tighter.
"What about Uzushiogakure?" Kai questioned, being war buddied with the likes of Jiraiya and Orochimaru had its perks and Kai knew how the Uzumaki clan fiercely protected their neutrality, going as far as sealing themselves within their village. Tsunade's gaze flashed for a moment. She still remembered how Mito deduced that Senju and Uzumaki are being threatened...
The former turned out to be true but preparations and staying on top of things made sure to increase the clan shinobi's survival rate.
And about the latter...
Tsunade grew a bit more cautious.
"Alright! You have five more minutes. Make peace with everything. After that, I want to seriously assess your growth," She looked at Mikoto and Kushina with a brashness evident in her tone, "If Grandma knew we're wasting time sulking instead of preparing for her mission, she'd come down and give you the bamboo."

The last three months were more of fine-tuning for Kai. Before this war, he had only focused on more chakra-oriented skills, taijutsu, or weaponry while ignoring other prompts for skills that would form based on a few actions in missions.
His trait wasn't without any restrictions for all its benefits. If an action is turned into a skill, it has a numerical requirement to level up, and once a skill levels up, Kai will gain the relevant information that allows him to reduce the cost of chakra and whatnot. Titles serve to reduce the requirements of the grind per level.
But he can only have five active skills to grind at once. If he removes one skill midway, he will lose the progress in the form of the knowledge temporarily in his head but he would retain what skill he was training and why so that he could resume the grind from the beginning. This doesn't mean Kai cannot learn anything aside from the skills. It only meant that what he learned couldn't be CONVERTED into skills. The war changed that. Being a scouter with Hizashi brought him certain skills and his act of constantly going for one-shot assassinations because, why the hell would he alert the platoon of enemies with ninjutsu, added certain stealth and better perception to his skill set.
[Basic Trap Detection (5/5): This allows the host to detect the more basic traps in the form of perceiving hints present in the surrounding a bit better.]
[Basic Trap Construction (5/5): This allows the host to set up a variety of basic traps ranging from a hidden pit to a short wire trip.]
[Basic Track Detection (10/10): Focuses on the knowledge of tracks left by shinobi in their moments of carelessness.]
[Paw Steps (5/5): Reduces the sound of steps barefoot. Each level improves the noise reduction by 5. Current Noise Reduction: 30.]
[Chakra Paws (15/15): Manipulates the chakra to cushion the steps of the host to reduce any disturbance from their movement by 3.33 at every level. Current Reduction of Disturbance: 50.]
[Mental Stat already surpassed the threshold. Adjusting the effects of the skill.]
[Joker's Retreat (25/25): A sound and scent-based Genjutsu that discreetly hides the user's body under the guise of their surroundings under the senses of the target. The requirement of sound and scent shifts according to the location. Reduces Chakra Consumption by 2 at every level. Current Consumption: 80/sec.]
[Intermediate Track Detection (20/20): Utilizes one of the five senses enhanced with chakra to detect residual hints of the target. Reduces Chakra Consumption by 2.5 at every level. Current Consumption: 20/min.]
Of all skills, he was quite proud of his creation— Joker's Retreat, a C- rank Genjutsu.
While D and E-rank Genjutsus are mere illusions with almost no control over the opponent's flow of chakra, the C-rank Genjutsus targets specific senses of the opponent. The greater the number of senses targeted and used as the medium, the better and more discreet control over the opponent.
The major difference between C and higher rank genjutsu was the number of senses it targeted or the addition of shift in time perception of the opponent. During the war, Orochimaru may have not taught him anything concrete but the man trained him more religiously than the bored Jiraiya who would throw hands once or twice with him or the stern and almost overprotective Tsunade... relatively, mind you. The snake from the trio also hinted that any Genjutsu that targets three senses belongs to B-rank or higher and a rare few Genjutsu can shift how the opponent perceives time.
In theory, only a second may pass in real-life but the opponent would feel like they've been trapped for years. Although, the man admitted that even he longed for such techniques much less Kai.
Again, these three months had little progress on his raw stats and more on covering up the bases under intense pressure and living a life of constant exhaustion.

Observing his growth in clear-cut numbers improved his mood somewhat and while the Grind for the Wind Nature Transformation was admirable... the advance tracking was more tedious than necessary as Kai contemplated if he should go ahead and utilize quite a bit of his saved-up stock of SP.
But right now, he had to give someone else his attention.
Standing in front of him were Kushina and Mikoto. As disgruntled as they were about this, Tsunade made it clear that he had made enough gains to tackle most chunins due to his deadly finesse sharpened by the grind. But he wasn't the only one without gains.
It would seem that the development of Sharingan forces the growth of the user, too... in more ways than one. Easily resisting yet another genjutsu attempt from her Sharingan as his own experience with it made it easy for him to tackle genjutsu based on a single sense, in this case, sight, Kai looked at the two girls.
It may not be the right time to make certain conclusions but he was aware of their charms. The kind of charm that would have gotten them into a few internal conflicts with the men as even within their own platoon, there were only two 'active' women with one of them being an Inuzuka. Of course, Orochimaru made sure that none went ahead and did something crazy but the other three kunoichi who were more decent in this matter had to make their strength clear when the shinobi felt truly at their wit's end.
One of the three was none other than Tsunade who finally sent Jiraiya away on the 'side missions' so that she won't have to beat him daily and then heal him back. Again, her sincere suggestion of castration to end the problem at its source was rejected by Orochi and much to Kai's anger... he was approached by one of the shinobi... the galls!
Oh, his wrist was quickly held before he could puncture the man's nutsack.
"Are you going to attack?" Mikoto remarked dryly as Kai huffed, "Like we aren't already deflecting genjutsus?"
Kushina and Mikoto looked a little dazed when seeing him smile in such a dense moment given all that had happened but now eager to make use of every opening from these novices, Kai was quick to flicker away while using [Chakra Paws] and before they realized it, his leg swiftly struck their butts the next instant.
"There, you died." He quipped with a smirk as Kushina still remained seated while Kai noted their other forms of growth, too.
'Kushina went ahead and has almost 110,000 chakra points... that's insane. And this isn't even including the unending depths she suppressed at this point. And Mikoto just got a fucking upgrade till 43000 points of chakra... ah, Kekkei Genkai. It's either you or my grind... fuck, I'll surpass every damn kekkei genkai but byakugans do look sweet... too bad they have that cursed seal mark...'
"What is it? Still not standing? Then again, being awed is the right reaction to witnessing my strength," Kai cackled and stretched his hand towards them, "Kushina-chan, Mikoto-chan... being sad won't do it. Grandma Mito had a full life, yeah?"
The girls dazedly reached out for the boy easily half their ages as he seemed much more... pleasing to the eyes. Yet, he was the seeker of grind and chaos. The moment they held his hands, Kai whipped their light bodies like rag dolls... after all, the weights he used before were easily heavier than the two combined.
--
"Subpar! And you wanted to join the war?! Where's that Uchiha pride, Mikoto? Kushina, how many times do I have to say you don't have to stop when you're shouting. Just these three months made both of you recover your bad habits and you!"
The woman looked at an even more bruised Nono before nodding, "Good. Your chakra reserve is smaller than both of them but you kept up with the right training. If I didn't snatch you up, you'd be in Anbu, no doubt!"
Nono smiled and accepted the compliment as a series of mocking 'tsk tsk' echoed.
"Sensei, you're going too easy on them." Kai beamed, "If it were me—" fully enjoying the trio's glare, Kai was about to continue when Tsunade raised her brow, "Oh? Are you the Sensei or I am?"
Kai blinked and then chuckled, "Well, of course—"
"That's a rhetorical, boy. Sit down!"
"Tch... jealousy everywhere..."
"Did you say something?"
"Nope!"
--
Tsunade smiled softly. The day had been too eventful... but it was a sight indeed to see a boy of such tender age take charge. If she had been a little on the fence regarding Kai's apparent apathy then going into war alongside him and today's circumstances shifted her opinion of the boy greatly. As he said, he was trustworthy not only in skills but in other situations, too.
'Hmm... I do hope he gets promoted to Jonin only after 13 years of age...'
After all, she had a lot riding on this bet. Well, it was money, but still!
There were not many sources of entertainment and whatever Jiraiya suggested was shot down so a bet it was and Kai, to the trio, happened to be a source of great interest. After all, the three of them saw themselves to some extent within the boy.
Tsunade related with his ability to brighten the room and recalled how her presence would alight everyone's mood not only then but even now.
Orochimaru was in great adoration of the boy's work ethic and reminisced how he would study snakes all day long.
Jiraiya related to his potential and taste in culture. Oh, and also his sheer talent. After all, Jiraiya himself felt he was the most talented amongst Orochi and Tsunade.
"Onee-san..." Nawaki pouted and called out again as Tsunade blinked and smiled, "Ah, sorry, I was thinking of something else.'
It was clear to Tsunade that Nawaki and Mito had a rocky relationship at best so knew not to bring her up in front of the boy as he munched on his dinner while groaning, "But you never told me what you're getting me for my birthday by the end of this year."
"It's a surprise," Tsunade smirked.
"Hah! That's so unfair!" The boy grumbled as the woman shook her head with a doting smirk. Nawaki was the only one left in her family. Others could argue that she and Kushina were distant cousins but to Tsunade, Nawaki was the closest bond she had.
"I'll make it worth your while, now don't you have some training routine yet to complete?" Tsunade inquired as Nawaki nodded eagerly, "Yeah, Sensei just whipped the entire team into shape this afternoon. Still, I was the last one standing. Once I defeat Sensei, I'll come after you and Jiraiya-san and then become the Hokage!" He gave a cheeky smirk as Tsunade only wondered what kind of sapless life Nawaki would lead if he actually became the Hokage. She knew better of Hokage's responsibilities but didn't think of dousing his motivation and leaned forward, pecking his forehead, "Well, you better work harder than my team then or you're gonna watch one of them become Hokage."
"No way!" Nawaki stood up and shot out of the room and into their courtyard to train as Tsunade shook her head.
'Oh, well, as long as he's motivated. I think even Orochimaru wouldn't want to have a friendly spar with Team Tsunade.' Her lips quirked up before she frowned again at the thought of the mission tomorrow...

Early morning after the mission's briefing, Team Tsunade excluding Kushina left Konoha with their destination being the Land of Whirlpools near the eastern coast of the continent in between the land of Fire and the Land of Water.
Much to Kai's humor, Kushina didn't even have the strength to fuss as the mental toll on her had been too much these past few days, and all she had waiting on his bed was a note complimenting her Wind Release Jutsus during her sleep. Ah, the bliss that is fresh air.
Tsunade was given two scrolls of storage with one of them having Mito's sealed body and the other one having the package that can only be opened by an Uzumaki. Of course, aside from Mito's mission to Team Tsunade, Hiruzen had his own optional mission to try and find out what was in the package.
But since the Team would have to cross borders, the mission rank was automatically bumped up to B-Rank, and their chances of meeting the enemy village's shinobi were high, too.
"Sensei, you don't seem fine... is everything alright?" Mikoto, as perceptive as ever, spoke up since she and Kai had noticed Tsunade's stormy expression long ago but Kai just had the wisdom to not cause chaos at expense of a woman who could beat the living shit out of him and heal him to do the same again, right?
"Maybe she got a wet dream and wet her bead," Kai idly mumbled, "You know you can sleep with Kushina. She keeps others awake due to her tendencies..."
"Shove it!" Tsunade snorted and glared at the duo, "Oh, I'm not fine! Did my expression give it away? Or the fact that Jiraiya thought of hitting me up for a late-night call to relieve my tensions? Or the fact that Orochimaru believed logically, in his damn words— Tsunade, you would need to have a release to have a calm mind before an important mission so better your own devices than Jiraiya. SENNIN! They can be fucking dumb sons of whores!"
She growled after imitating Orochimaru's raspy tone perfectly.
Mikoto flinched before giving a wry smile, not knowing how to handle the situation now that Tsunade didn't even try to hide things like this from them.
"Did you?" The innocent question made Tsunade's furious expression and Mikoto's wry one freeze up before they looked at Kai, who barely resisted the urge to snicker, looking all innocent and naively dumb like a street pup. They knew better, of course.
"Wanna get buried alongside Grandma?" Tsunade's eyes were wide as her almost bulging amber eyes bore into his gaze with a stoic but almost visible killing intent.
{A/N: Nah, don't get me started on why I don't want a killing intent detection skill.}
But Kai had faced worse in his previous life... still, he's had his fun, "Uh... no."
"Hmph, I'll see to it that our training beats everything 'Jiraiya' out of you!" Tsunade snorted and Mikoto shook her head, giving the boy she was so worried about a disappointed glare, "Really?" She inquired in a whisper, "Can't you be more responsible with your words?"
"I was curious," Kai huffed.
"Curiosity always kills the cat!" Mikoto scoffed and couldn't help but feel calm and a little relieved to be going on the mission with her own team.
"This cat has two lives!" Kai gave her a sidelong glance, 'Too bad I lost one already.'
Mikoto just looked a little amused by his words. Damn this kiddy body. But Damn Mikoto, too. She was six years older than him but still... how she was growing up THAT fine was nobody's business. Must be in her clan genes? Kekkei Genkai is indeed a fierce opponent... But then again, Kai did find his eyes just idly enjoying the sight of Tsunade in front of him while he kept his awareness to the maximum of his surroundings.
"Sensei," Kai called out softly once they were well an hour into their journey while Mikoto's eyes silently swirled to form two-tomoe Sharingan while their Sensei gave a discreet nod.
The trio stopped on one branch and stood around Kai as he slapped the branch for a second, leaving a tiny seal before they flickered away again.
A few minutes later after they left, a lone figure garbed in a dark cloak stood on the branch where Team Tsunade stood not long ago. The Shinobi's eyes revealed a moment of confusion through the eye sockets of the mask as he touched the branch and revealed the small chakra seal that served to send an alarm to the mother seal tag and inform the target. Scoffing, the shinobi dispelled the seal and continued on his way.
Not far from the branch and hidden behind one of the trees where they would have been found usually, yet the shinobi following them passed through without a fuss.
"This Genjutsu is amazing," Mikoto wondered with a slightly stunned look as Kai shrugged and basked in the credit of it. Basically, he had the idea of genjutsu and used it but the relevant knowledge was extrapolated from his trait since [Joker's Retreat] was his own creation.
"Can I copy it?" Mikoto looked at Kai, her red pupils widened slightly as she felt hopeful that she could increase the potency of the genjutsu by adding the sense of sight in the jutsu and propelling it to a B-rank Genjutsu—
"Nah, hmm," Kai snickered as Mikoto gave him a sidelong glance, "You know I'm only asking because it's the right thing to do, right? Others may not have even controlled themselves from copying it."
"Well, of course, you have to ask. Soon enough I'd be stronger than any Kekkei Genkai user—"
Tsunade snorted and ruffled his head, "Yeah, yeah, keep dreaming. You have three Kekkei Genkai nins in Team Tsunade including me. Would be good if you stop being such an arrogant brat."
"Tch, and that's why Nono gets to kiss the future strongest shinobi and not any of you... although... I don't know if she'd just stop using Genjutsu illusions..."
"Let's not waste our time," Mikoto snorted while Tsunade shrugged. It did wonders on her own mood to see someone else bicker, after all.
Still, Kai had other somber thoughts. Just this one following shinobi made it clear to him that someone, highly likely in Konoha itself, who did not know the full extent of his growth in the war was after them for reasons that could be as simple as to kill a potential threat but... that couldn't be it, right? If Konoha really had a bunch of pussies afraid of a 6-year-old chunin then he would have to reassess his own behavior in the village. If there are some cunts inside then... well, Kai was happy to give them a reason to fear him.
With an internal groan, he decided to pump the hard-earned SP from the grind into the [Advance Track Detection, and boy it was a lot!
A whopping 602 SP!
This made him wonder how hard the grind would be for even stronger skills but again, the grind didn't scare him but the requirements of some skills are not worth the grind. Besides, SP was here to be utilized and not be kept in stock forever.
Tracing the target shinobi's chakra signature became an easy act. He could have traced the chakra signature before but Kai was a fond believer of overkill when it came to treating his enemies with disrespect.
"And? Can the two of you sense it?" Tsunade inquired. She wasn't a tracker but she had similar skills up her sleeves because a shinobi needed them. Kai and Mikoto nodded.
Oh, did he say damn Kekkei Genkai before? He did? Then damn them again!
'Uchihas are like... the definition of fucking overkill. One dojutsu to do them all... why couldn't Sharingan be like Byakugan and just have more cultured uses?' Kai rolled his eyes inwardly as Mikoto went ahead and said she could even sense the shinobi's chakra traveling in the direction they intended to leave for. Heck, Kai could only wonder the menace a Sharingan user would be if they had byakugan's 360 vision...
'Think about the menace a person with BOTH the dojutsu will have. Nah, don't think about it. Grind will overcome anything and everything!'
"Let's follow him and end the chase," Tsunade hummed thoughtfully and her apprentice followed the man the next instant. The seal Kai had placed was a simple bait to see if the opponent had more information about them. After all, this trick was used in the Ame-front of the war several times to see if the Iwa platoon chasing after them knew about their information and were skilled hunters sent by the main forces or just some chunin ranks following them to complete their war missions.
Again, in war especially, Kai stopped using Chakra reserves as the measure of the opponent's strength because, one, he himself was stronger than what his body and reserves represented, and two, skilled shinobi DID have a way to mask their chakra reserves, something Kai felt viable for later uses and had yet to start the grind for.

Ssss*
The haunting corrosive sound of melting flesh echoed as their spy now lay on the ground with even his clothes melting into the goo of his flesh. While Kai looked positively revolted by the human yogurt, the shit flavor at that, Tsunade had a deep frown while Mikoto only looked at the melting flesh with a cold expression.
"Hmm... never thought he'd activate the fail-safe trigger on his body the second he felt us surround him. His mission must be to only follow us and make relevant reports but it's clear that someone doesn't want us to succeed in this mission so... I don't need to say it out loud, right?" Tsunade looked at Kai and Mikoto while Kai stepped forward and took out a tiny test tube from his storage scroll before he picked up a small portion of flesh from the melted goo only once he was sure that there wasn't any explosive trigger left on the melted cupcake.
"And what do you think you're doing?"
"Huh? I thought you meant taking the sample of the enemy and then bringing it back to the hospital to either let you or Orochimaru-san run some tests and background check..." Kai looked back. Yeah, the village with the ability to cure cancer had such techniques, too. But that wasn't the focal point.
"You think someone from the village..." Mikoto finally lost her cool for a second while Tsunade groaned and uttered, "Don't speak of stupid things like this in the village... and yeah, have Orochimaru run some tests later but I don't think anybody would be THAT foolish to have such a failsafe trigger in front of a medic-assault team."
Kai nodded while sealing the test tube into the scroll. He also thought of this but hey, maybe they could get lucky and have some hints, right?
'Fireball Jutsu,' Mikoto, still in her Fire Nature Transformation practice only needed three hand seals to breathe out a ball of flaming death to roast the cupcake into ashes under chakra-controlled flames that flickered out of existence once Mikoto stopped feeding her jutsu to the chakra.
"Come on, if there's one, there may be others. We'll start setting up with higher-level seals and traps to deter the few weaker ones. We'll keep poisonous traps close to ourselves. The poison is only good as long as its antidote doesn't spread out."
--
"Hmm, I thought you'd be..." Hiruzen looked at Danzo with a strange expression as the man calmly responded, "Mito-san did a lot for the village just be existing. She was our war deterrent and she promised Konoha to leave her legacy to her successor which means the Kyubi and the Uzumaki Scroll of Seals that our Sensei took as inspiration to form his own scroll for all his Jutsus. Even I can only show admiration for such a woman..."
Danzo left the office, leaving Hiruzen stunned. It didn't take long for him to follow the underground labyrinth and return to his base of operation, where, in a dimly lit room was a team of shinobi with their faces covered by porcelain masks with the likeness of some animals.
Gazing at the eleven shinobi, Danzo spoke slowly, "It is the Root's job to stay in the shadow and protect the future of Konoha. This is a war for resources. The three shinobi villages would either take a bite out of Konohagakure... or another country that has become a frightful menace to our people. With Mito Uzumaki's death, the last of THEIR concerns would dissipate. Four of you shall contact our sources in the relevant locations while the seven of you will form a team and pursue Team Tsunade who have left with important assets of Konoha."
"Remember. Nothing should ever come back to Konoha by having yourself trailed so... once this scroll is delivered, you must activate the seal of sacrifice. And the seven of you... Chunin Kai has shown apathy towards the loyalty to the village and Mikoto Uchiha, on several occasions, has revealed a pattern of insubordination. Her eyes must be brought back but... deal with the rest and recover the assets in their hands."
The eleven shinobi disappeared from the room using the Body Flicker Technique while Danzo grew a little quiet and released a tired sigh.
'Root... huh. Indeed, why must the light care for what the shadow devours? In nature, shadow exists because of light. Yet, I have to lead the shadows so the light can exist...' His bandaged hand touched his bandaged right portion of the fact, 'I have inherited your will... and even if Hiruzen refuses to see my way, I will ensure peace. Anyway, once things fall into motion, even Hiruzen would be forced to realize that with Iwa, Kumo, and Kiri focusing on Uzu, we can weaken and end the war from Suna's front...'

The Land of Fire shared its borders with the Land of Hot Water that had its own Shinobi Village but unlike the five major shinobi villages, namely: Konohagakure, Kumogakure, Iwagakure, Sunagakure, and Kirigakure, these remoted Shinobi Villages were caught in the war reluctantly. They weren't anywhere rich or strong enough to maintain their neutrality like Uzushiogakure or profit from the war like Amegakure.
And because of this reason, Team Tsunade couldn't recklessly enter the borders of the Land of Hot Water because it's been fully 'allied' by Kumogakure.
And Tsunade had no appreciation for the current regime of the Third Raikage. She also took the chance while setting up an array of traps for their possible pursuers to expand the base of her apprentices' political history and the absence of the hyperactive redhead went unnoticed by Tsunade because the girl would have heard it from one ear and let it out from another.
"During the end of the First Shinobi War, the Second Hokage and the Second Raikage were ambushed. This ambush led them to their deaths but later, it was beginning to become clear when all the coup members against Second Raikage's regime began to silently disappear that the one behind the ambush may just be the current Raikage."
"Yet, that man is considered honorable," Tsunade huffed, "The issue is with what he considers honorable. The Third Raikage is very aggressive and cares about his military the most. As such, while Shinobi revere the man... the civilians and the whole of the Land of Lightning's court see him as a tyrant. Even to this day, to increase the number of Kekkei Genkai clansmen, Third Raikage openly encourages the enslavement of shinobi and kunoichi who have any form of a bloodline."
Tsunade looked at Kai and Mikoto. While the girl had one of the most enviable Kekkei Genkai, the boy would easily pass as one... nay, maybe he DID have a kekkei genkai. The sight of him showing seven nature transformation affinity was still fresh in her mind but... nobody knew anything about this kind of kekkei genkai. In fact, Konoha has some hidden acts like this, too, but the operative word here was 'openly.'
"Either way, I don't think I have to explain what happens next, right? But I'll still explain just so you two can understand the threats of this world... and this is different from the cases in victim files, too. The Shinobi are made to ejaculate constantly and their specimens are preserved while the shinobi who capture the kunoichi have the option to either sell her off to the Kumo's administration where she will not only be impregnated by one of the cup specimens but also by any shinobi the village find strong enough but even after her death, her body will be thoroughly researched."
"Jutsus are formed with enough research and ingenuity and the Kumo's practice-led Iwa and Kiri to do the same... albeit in a more moderate and politically-inclined manner. It is said that the Third Raikage captured a shinobi of some rare bodily transformative mutations and found black lightning that has significantly higher attributes than normal lightning transformation."
{A/N: Aside from kumo, black lightning is only found with Sasuke and his cursed seals alongside Kakashi and his senjutsu chakra that one time... so I'm sure a few knows what I'm getting at about the captive but I'll explain that later, too~!}
'Huh... so Kumogakure is THAT club where most of the things go legal... neat.'
"Why didn't Sunagakure adapt to these shifts?" Mikoto inquired as Tsunade shrugged, "They don't have resources to fund such a thing. Those mummies would feel lucky if they discover another natural oasis instead of a poop formed by water chakra spit." The woman held a smirk but found Mikoto highly unamused.
"Anyway, it's not like we have a high chance of meeting a Kumo nin here," Tsunade shrugged.
"So the Land of Hot Water is under their control?" Mikoto sighed softly and shook her head.
"There are many outposts of Kumo, yes... it would have been easier to take a ferry ride from the coast of Land of Hot Water but we'll just have to make do with our own. Land of Whirlpools is closed off and is surrounded by many natural whirlpools. We would have to let Uzushiogakure know we are trying to contact them before we can even enter."
Kai hummed loudly and questioned, "Sensei, isn't there any flying jutsu? If we had one, it would have been a lot easier."
"Last I checked, we're shinobi... we don't fly," Tsunade gave Kai an exasperated stare.
"Ah, so breathing fire, making clones, and sealing gigantic titans of chakra is fine... we just drew our line when it came to flying."
"Well..." Tsunade blinked. If he put it this way... "You're not wrong but there aren't any flying techniques known to me..."
Kai suddenly stopped and forced others to stop on their next steps as they looked at Kai strangely.
"Has anyone ever tried to transform into an animal, like Tsume's clan... and I don't know? Fly with wings?" Kai was curious. Even he was confused why he didn't think of that before and then it hit him...
Transformation Jutsu was a fucking Academy level skill that allowed him to transform into a Mikoto with big bazookas. He considered the technique nothing more than a prank and others would have, too. After all, higher-level techniques utilize greater and more complicated applications and none would care about a basic skill like transformation.
He didn't wait for Tsunade or Mikoto to speak that he was crazy. Nah, his gut has always been right except when he chose the damn gamer mind, and the next second...
Poof*
A large plume of smoke covered Kai as it hid him while notifications filtered his very... strange vision.
[Skill Created with specific action.]
[Identified as an unetched skill.]
[An existing skill detected as a part of this new skill. If removed from the temporary skills, the base skill will revert to the host.]
[Skill level adjusted and Skill Points distributed.]
[Essence Transformation (3/75): Allows the user to transform into any beast, plant, or item. This skill does not change the weight of the user, chakra reserve, or any other aspect of the user except physical appearance. The body is molded to form the shape of the chakra extended from the user. Chakra consumed reduced by 1 at every level. Current Consumption: 47/min.
Next Level: Transform into something new 1/540 times or 25 SP.]
Kai's entire world felt... large. He looked up and found Tsunade and Mikoto. If this skill was somewhat more 'permanent', he may have gotten infrared vision but this was better. He could easily look upto Tsunade and what a view it was to find her and Mikoto dumbstruck.
Hiss*
"Amazing, right?" Kai inquired as he was transformed into Cinnamon, the ever-youthful white snake buddy of his.
Although the pinky-sized body with his actual weight meant he wouldn't be able to move but that was fine... still, the conditions of this skill's level up made it seem like he had gotten his first A-rank Jutsu. He planned to grind this skill completely. It was too good to not do so and its chakra consumption wasn't all that much when even C-rank genjutsu will have a higher cost.
His giddy thoughts, however, weren't shared by Tsunade as she watched the snake pood back into a beaming Kai while she blinked.
'That's a one chakra shroud short of being a kinjutsu...'
Poof*
Tsunade heard another burst of smoke beside her but found Mikoto being the... same.
"Huh? Why didn't it work for me?" Mikoto frowned.
"Inuzuka clan can transform into their ninkens because they have the foundation, research, and lifestyle for it. They even lower their own weight to match their Ninken's attributes or increase their Ninken's weight and size... you can't just transform into a beast without studying one extensively but... I guess nobody really thought of doing that because the Inuzuka clan isn't particularly stellar and your technique is similar to Orochimaru's as he would turn parts of his body into snakes..."
Tsunade frowned when he said that while Kai shrugged, "Or maybe he did manage to transform into a beast but kept it to himself. I mean, Orochimaru-san's a genius—"
"Then goddamn study under him!" Tsunade instantly scoffed in annoyance. Kai would barely recognize her own efforts but would gush over the tiniest thing Orochimaru does. It was fucking infuriating!
"You know... Sensei... if I had really studied under him, I would have tried this technique long before..." Tsunade knew he was right but her brutal stare made it clear she wasn't up for a logical discussion while Kai shrugged and, "But you know... I wouldn't trade Senseis."
"Really? I recall you saying how Jiraiya would have been a fun Sensei," Mikoto smiled, clearly understanding the way of chaos after being with Kai for so long as he felt Tsunade's stare practically stabbing into him.
"Shouldn't we move?" Kai questioned.
"Oh, we'll move," Tsunade remarked, "But let's put a pin in this until we complete our mission."
"Or forever," Kai suggested.
"We'll see," Tsunade remarked as they began to move. Flying was doable but not for now... not if Kai decided to go hell with it and consume the last bits of his SP.

The sound of drizzle over the border shared by the Land of Earth and the Land of Rain permeated the surroundings as one masked shinobi silently made his way through the closed border of the country ruled by Hanzo and met with an Iwa Nin near an unnamed section of a forest. The moment the two exchanged scrolls, they fell back and flickered away and a few seconds later, a platoon of shinobi chased after the masked shinobi only to hear the sound of an explosion.
While something similar happened near the Land of Hot Water with a small team of Kumo shinobi and near a dried and barren civilian village within the Land of Wind that governed over the largest desert of the continent.
Yet, the message that should not have even fallen in the ears of one of the strongest and consequently, most dangerous men in the war now made their eyes light up.
It did not take long for Konoha to realize that other villages knew about Mito's death the moment a short tragedy in their war efforts against Sunagakure occurred.
--
The immediate war council members had grim expressions. A few clan leaders were not present but this was excused because those absent were in the war themselves... well, those that lived.
Hiruzen eyed the empty chairs of the Sarutobi and Shimura clans and how close the seats were to one another. The situation in real life was... similar.
'Had my son been in THAT outpost...' Hiruzen's heart quivered and he looked at Danzo who sat on the seat appointed to him with a stoic expression.
"The sudden attack from the Ichibi Jinchuriki was not expected at all. Until now, no Jinchurikis had been used because of Mito-san's deterrent but it would seem that either they know of her regretful passing or they wish to pull all tailed-beasts into the war."
"Which should be absolute madness," Shikudo Nara groaned slightly and Yata Uchiha frowned slightly.
"The losses include exceptional shinobi like the late Shimura Gin who happened to be the clan head of the Shimura Clan, my own Aburame Clan predecessor, and many more. But we have to form tactics to deal with the situation."
Although the previous clan head of the Aburame clan died alongside many others... nobody felt that this leader was any different than the previous one. Yet, when the name Gin Shimura was uttered, Hiruzen observed Danzo and found profound confusion in the man's lone eye.
The emergency war council concluded with nothing but some short measures and the employment of the barrier ninjutsu team under Hokage's Anbu to keep the Jinchuriki of Sunagakure in check. But Hokage had other concerns.
Like usual, the elders would arrive at his office a few minutes before to discuss amongst themselves but Danzo wasn't a part of it this time, and for an unfortunate reason.
"Danzo..." Hiruzen muttered bitterly as Danzo sat in front of him with a collected look.
"Gin Shimura was deployed to the Suna War Front. Losses were expected and he happened to be part of it."
Danzo stated plainly as Hiruzen frowned and sighed, "Is that all you have to say for your son?"
Hiruzen looked at Danzo with a strange look. It wasn't pity. It wasn't sadness either... it was as if he was looking at a possible mirror had his own son died during the attack.
"Our profession is to kill. He knew what would happen the day he wore his forehead protector and so did I." Danzo narrowed his eye with a look of utter indifference yet his fists clenched by themselves under the table as he remarked somberly, "Actions have consequences... never forget that."
"I won't," Hiruzen replied but it felt like Danzo wasn't talking to him.
'My son... gave his life for Konoha. My part had nothing to do with... nothing to do with this. It was either the Sand Jinchuriki or someone else...'
A/N: Alright, so I wanted to have more fun with Danzo and his descent from a beneficial party of Konoha as a whole to just a bandaged bitch having become tired of bending over for Hiruzen or having Hiruzen bend over for him.

{A/N: I was informed about some civil war in Uzushiogakure in Kushina's time that I didn't know of well beyond after writing this and the next two chapters. I tried to find it online but couldn't so I still don't know if that's true or not. However, this being an AU already changes things but I'm still not denying any civil war if it happened... again, I haven't found it written anywhere.
"Sigh, I feel like we wasted all that time setting traps," Tsunade groaned as she entered the hidden cave they'd sealed off for themselves after contacting the only transformed Uzumaki contact left in the coastal village of Land of Fire. Her gaze fell on Mikoto silently training in her Fire Nature Transformation.
If Tsunade didn't believe that Kai had an unnamed Kekkei Genkai before then she was forced to reconcile her views with his achievements. It was hard to keep from Jiraiya and Orochimaru that the boy had mastered not one but two elemental nature transformations but it was well worth it. It wasn't a matter of trust but keeping a few cards to themselves.
While Mikoto had a hard time warming the chunks of rocks in the wooden pail, Kai continued to shred rocks like there was no tomorrow in an effort to achieve wind nature transformation.
The Elemental Nature Transformation practice had its individual levels for all different natures of elements but the highest mastery meant that the shinobi must induce element into its natural weakness to some extent.
For instance, Mikoto had to warm up the rocks in the wooden pail without heating the wood itself. She must contain her transformed chakra around the rocks and keep it as such until the rocks explode from the heat making the thin stream of air locked away in the tiny crevices expand violently due to the heat. Of course, after achieving that, Mikoto could try higher and higher difficulties but it was ill-advised and unnecessary.
Kai, on the other hand, would have to cut through the water itself with his chakra to have considered it mastered or... just grind it till level 50.
Tsunade didn't disturb the two. She felt that letting them train while she kept a lookout was the right arrangement. After all, even if she felt that the traps they laid were a useless waste of their resources— one can never be too cautious. She was outside the Konoha and she was sure that the enemy WILL send someone strong enough to even threaten her. Letting the kids out was clearly not the logical thing to do.
She glanced at Kai again. Her clan boasted the reputation to have nurtured a God of Shinobi, her grandfather, and Tsunade remembered the tales he would concoct. Mastering water nature transformation at nine and later reaching a higher stage in earth nature transformation the next year itself. She would scoff at that when even she and Orochimaru mastered their first nature transformation at 14 and her Sensei, who had mastered all the five elemental transformations had his first mastery of element at the age of 12.
But now she was beginning to believe the tales of her grandfather.
"Sensei," Kai looked up, making her snap out of her thoughts as she waggled her brows in an inquiry, making him question, "I already know the elemental clones, but I was thinking if there was any other variation of it."
"Why's that?" Tsunade questioned, already rolling her eyes inwardly.
"Well..." Kai smiled sweetly, "I was just wondering..." he drawled and Mikoto's lips twitched. The only way this training-loving, perverted freak of nature in her eyes would 'suddenly' become a sweet boy is when he wanted something. Of course, this was only the first phase as with the time when he began pestering Tsunade for Nature Transformation Techniques. Next was pranking to defeat her will and make her succumb to his demands... which had disastrous results back then. After this came the silent treatment. And even when THAT wouldn't work, Kai would threaten Tsunade with whatever would come to his mind.
Admittedly the last phase worked brilliantly last time, Kai knew not to push or twist Tsunade's knobs and go gently at it. Stroke his demand tenderly over her, to be precise.
"Shadow Clones are off-limits, Kai, at least have Jonin-level reserves. No more conditions after that," Tsunade rubbed her forehead as Kai smirked. All he wanted was a condition. Now that the shadow clone technique was secured, he looked at other stuff that he got from achieving the war mission.

Kai didn't believe that this was Konoha's stock of storage skills but he was clear that this is the bundle of knowledge available to someone well-known with a similar status as his. Even Kai couldn't saunter into the archives and demand all these techniques without raising suspicion.
But he was in no hurry to chew more than he can bite. He already has another high-grind-maintenance skill in the form of a super-advanced Transformation Skill and also had to master wind release ninjutsu. He could learn at least one from Tsunade even if Wind Release isn't her main mastery but the rest he would have to exchange for SP and thus grind other skills to earn SP and...

Kai smiled and continued the grind as they waited in their hole for their contact to reply soon enough.

2 days later.
"It is a pleasure to meet you, cousin," A red-haired youth stretched his hand towards Tsunade as she shook it promptly and let the youth press a seal on her palm that quickly turned into the basic mark of the Uzumaki symbol. Kai knew the youth, of course. He was Heijo, one of the two escorts that brought Kushina into Konohagakure.
He then looked at Mikoto as Tsunade spoke up, "Let him set the seal. It's a temporary one and a key to enter Uzushiogakure."
Mikoto nodded and stretched her hand towards Heijo who promptly shook it while she felt a seal on the back of her palm.
When Heijo took Kai's hand, his expression turned a little strange as an already imprinted symbol of the Uzumaki clan appeared on his hand and he blinked, "G...uardian? Wait... it's you?! Woah, you grew way too much in what? Two years?"
Heijo looked at Kai with a startled expression and then grinned, "The clan head was informed that Mito-sama bagged a talented guardian for Kushina-chan... didn't think it would be you but looking at you now... you would have kicked my ass if we were the same age."
Kai smirked, "Damn right!"
Chuckling, Heijo coiled his arm around Kai and pulled him close while ruffling his head, "Cheeky much? Still, you don't need another seal. Guardians can enter the clan village just fine."
Tsunade didn't bat an eyelid with how familiar Heijo was already acting but Mikoto looked like she wanted to speak something while Kai rolled his eyes internally. Truly, only Mito was the better Uzumaki while the rest weren't better than a bunch of monkeys!
"Ha, right, Mito-sama had something sent, right? Follow me."
"Um, where's the boat?" Mikoto finally inquired as they stood close to a cliff with only the wide ocean beyond them as Heijo looked at her with a grin, "Boats? You would think that with the reputation of best sealing masters, we would have long stopped using boats to maneuver through the whirlpools covering our island. Come on. You'll see the use of the seals on your hands soon enough."
They followed Heijo as he walked dangerously close to the edge of the cliff before walking down on its surface as the remaining trio followed. Once they were close to the crashing waves, Heijo crouched and slammed his palms as a wide sealing matrix spread out from under him and spread past them, too.
"This little cookie right here is called a Space-Time Sealing Technique," Heijo chuckled without any hint of caution as Tsunade was truly beginning to believe that if someone really targeted the Uzumaki seriously as Mito predicted... they might be in for trouble.
"And what this technique does is..." Heijo smirked mischievously as Tsunade also seemed excited for some reason. The next second, Mikoto and Kai felt their visions blurred and they didn't take another second to buckle down on their knees and hurl their breakfast over a verdant field.
"Haha, that's really a good one," Tsunade snickered, not the least bit bothered by the moment of vertigo she experienced while Heijo was accustomed to it and grinned foolishly.
Regaining their wits, Kai and Mikoto looked around.
They were in a... city. Well, if the developed land and buildings past the small troops of Uzumaki shinobi waiting for them were any indication.
Unlike the Land of Fire which was entirely gloomy due to the war, this place just felt warm and bright. A land untouched by war.
"Enough fooling around, Heijo!" The youth winced as a red-haired woman in a high ponytail huffed and nodded at Tsunade, "Cousin." She acknowledged curtly.
"Ruriko, check this out. He's the brat who Mito-sama wrote us about. Kushina's guardian!" Heijo chimed and pointed at Kai still wiping his mouth as Ruriko's eyes lit up and like Heijo, she quickly sauntered towards him and then around him, "Hmm? Oh, I remember now. Mito-sama's helper. Grown-up quite a bit, better than us Uzumakis but chakra reserves seems a bit lacking."
Everyone from Team Tsunade rolled their eyes at this. These red-haired chipmunks were chakra monsters!
"Come along," Ruriko grinned and ruffled the boy's head, "Clan head would want to know the level of your fuinjutsu given that you're part of the clan now."

Uzushiogakure was very different from Konohagakure. While the latter felt like in the development stages of becoming a metropolitan equivalent from his previous life, Uzu was spread over the entire island with various structures of different shapes working alongside nature and... the terrifying number of sealing matrix Kai was only able to sense shortly since this only felt like the first layer of it.
Brought to the center of the island as Kai and Mikoto viewed the world of redheads peacefully living, bantering, and playing, they couldn't help but feel a little... well, bored.
From a young age, Mikoto had been groomed as a Kunoichi and while she found novelty in peaceful life, she was aware of what must be done to achieve this and would just be happy if her family in the future can have peace. Kai, meanwhile, only saw wasted potential.
If they don't wanna train... at least do something for their games. What's the point of playing tag if you can't even add tree and water walking in it? That would have been so much MORE fun!
Tsunade, however... felt a pit in her stomach.
They were soon allowed to enter the head's residence which was a traditional wooden mansion with a wide courtyard in the middle of the island and aside from Ruriko and Heijo, others dispersed.
Waiting for them in the courtyard was a brunette old man, his once bright red hair now dull brown as she smiled and welcomed everyone, "Ah, do feel welcome. Ever since the beginning of the skirmish, we've cut off major contacts from the outside to be at peace so, Uzushiogakure is honestly grateful that you're completing Mito-sama's last wish."
'Major red flag... number 2...' Tsunade counted. Oh, she did.
Cut off connections? During the time of war? Who does that?!
"Hmm, and you two brats must be my grand niece's teammates, eh? Sigh, I knew Kushina won't be allowed to leave Konoha right after accepting Mito-sama's legacy but it still hurts not to see that red ball of wonder jumping around every day."
Kai and Mito were positively stunned by the man.
Is he the leader of Uzushiogakure, the Uzushiokage?
What the hell?
Tsunade smiled and replied plainly, "I'm sure Kushina misses everyone here just as much. But before I make the delivery, I have something to—"
"No!" The man crossed his arms as his dark brown beard flared up slightly, "I told off that Hokage! We ain't in the warring era anymore and the Uzumaki clan will have no part in it!"
"That's not it, I have a... personal message from Grandma Mito, too," Tsunade sighed as the man blinked and chuckled, "Well, why didn't you start from that?"
"Hei, Ruri, prepare rooms for them and unseal the guest bathrooms!"
'No... why would you seal the guest bathrooms in the first place?' Team Tsunade thought simultaneously.
A/N: As stated, the chakra nature transformation technique basically ends with 20 control and the user can slowly increase that mastery with higher practice and other forms of training. This makes me believe that Naruto's own wind nature transformation technique alongside his shadow clones gave him more than 20 of mastery for wind chakra... say, easily about 40 or above.
Do note that since this is AU, I will try to shift things more than just events. For instance, Sage of Six Paths chakra is op and the truth-seeking balls are op so they may just be the result of 100 mastery or otherwise, are the requirement to reach 100 mastery in the nature transformation but I haven't solidified the idea yet so do give me suggestions.

A/N: So I think I ate something bad yesterday and have been hurling it up today. Fuck Phak Bum, (Thai spinach dish, that I love, but the... effects after can sometimes be squeezy.) Anyway, today was the day to write Quest Maker but I couldn't and this chapter is basically a backlog I have started to keep just for emergencies like this. In fact, I did that because I know there are some who feel a little frustrated at the lack of chaps when they stare at notice so please know this, if I have chaps, I'll always update~!
"Do we have to?" Mikoto frowned and looked a little exasperated while Heijo and Kai stood in the courtyard once again after Team Tsunade had freshened up. Tsunade having something to speak with the Uzumaki Clan Head was with the man while Ruriko, according to Heijo, was having her evening nap. This left Heijo to complete the important task.
"Mikoto-chan!" Kai stated, the underlying sternness in his voice making her blink in surprise as she looked at the boy in return, "Heijo-san must have something important in his mind... I don't think we can skip this. We can hang around Uzu later..."
The girl rolled her eyes and sat on the edge of the wooden platform extended from the structure and let her dangling feet sway. "Was there a need to be so serious about a simple skill check?" She pouted.
There was.
[Guardian Quest: The Strong One
Summary: Impress the Uzumaki Clan member approved by the Clan Head and satisfy them with your skills as the guardian of the Uzumaki Princess in the foreign land.
Rewards: 14 SP
Failure: Uzumaki-style verbal lashing; Massaging feet of the Examiner]
"Heh? I'm happy—" The moment Heijo spoke, Kai moved that very instant. He wasn't about to let these freaks of chakra reserves have any moment to draw up some strange seal or anything. His [Chakra Paws] made him silent and deadly rightly enough but he was surprised as his kick easily swept against Heijo and the man... just fell.
"Huh?" Mikoto's expression froze, her Sharingan activating as she tried to examine if she was in a genjutsu while Kai flared his chakra at the same time and they were both stunned by the feedback.
"Woah," Heijo grumbled while standing up, "You really ARE impressive! I mean, I'm almost a Jonin myself but you're too good!"
'No, not really... you were just, too...' Kai wondered as he earned the SP, 'Too...'
--
"— unprepared!" Tsunade glared at the surprised Uzumaki Clan Head while smacking her hand on the table, "Even the shinobi team of the Uzumaki are too casual. They lack the basic etiquettes of cautions!"
Frowning, Ruuji Uzumaki huffed, "Our clan? Unprepared? The moment we got a hint that someone is targeting us, we sent two teams. None of them returned and their triggers in the secret storage showed that they activated their suicidal seals. We closed off any connection with other institutions right then and the only reason we have one space-time seal left in the Land of Fire is that the Konoha has been a long-term ally. We have fortified our island to the last teeth! Even an entire village of shinobi cannot invade us!"
Ruuji remarked proudly as Tsunade's head buzzed.
She heard something entirely different in his words.
"So... you cut off all paths of escape?" Tsunade couldn't believe what she was hearing. She had never been to Uzushiogakure but Mito would always grumble how simple the clan really was. Tsunade wouldn't believe that, of course. Mito herself was an Uzumaki and she was the personification of a dangerous fox. But this... level of stupidity physically hurt the politically inept Tsunade.
"Why would we need to escape when nothing can invade us?" Ruuji scoffed. His temper was similar to Mito, Tsunade noted, but not his deviousness. Even her own Sensei tried to get her seduced by one of the Anbu members so that the Senju would have another genius of some sort. After all, she and Nawaki were the last living blood of Hashirama Senju himself. Every leader must be devious enough to make these hard decisions even if they end up blowing on their faces, that much even Tsunade could understand.
But this...
"Are you... sigh," she groaned, "I'm not even going to try it. Grandma Mito was very clear that the Senju and the Uzumaki clans are being targeted during this war. I don't know if you have all the information given that you so easily cut off your connections with the rest of the world but I'll do you a favor and tell you that Konoha-Iwa skirmishes have been suspended in Amegakure for the time being.
This means that Iwa is either free to antagonize Suna or Kumo. Not to mention that aside from Konoha-Suna skirmishes, we aren't facing any form of difficulties against Kumo in the Land of Hot Water... You understand, don't you? This is a war for resources... and two villages out of three are taking it easy as if this war doesn't matter to them..."
Ruuji had an intense look. The nerves of his forehead popped ever so slowly and he growled, "I don't understand! Can't ya keep it simple?!"
Tsunade blinked.
She had just made some conjectures after Ruuji revealed that two of Uzu's teams were killed off. She hadn't heard anything about it in Konoha and it must be because Uzu suspended any connections whatsoever. But it gave her enough scare!
"You really don't understand, Old fool?!" Even her temper flared as her furious gaze pinned the man down who wouldn't falter in return, "Who the hell are you calling a fool?!"
"You! You old, bearded cur! I'm saying the two villages might be targeting you! One village will be hard-pressed to invade but what about two? Or three? The moment Kirigakure smells the whiff of Uzumaki blood, it'll pounce like a starved shark!"
"Bah! Shove it! Just because you're Mito-sama's blood doesn't mean you say so stupid things! Mito-sama was the smartest Uzumaki ever! Should've learned from her. Just complete your mission and let us honor the departed as we do like usual! Stay if you want and if you're so spooked, leave! Uzumaki blood is never afraid!"
Tsunade's glare sharpened as she snorted and placed her palm on the table again with a sealing matrix spreading and a poof of white smoke revealing two scrolls.
"This is it." Tsunade stated coldly, "This scroll has Grandma's body and this one has whatever she wanted to be delivered. As for staying in Uzu, count me out. I wouldn't wanna end up dead in a funeral itself. You can prepare, that's my suggestion. Just because you don't want war doesn't mean others care."
Tsunade stood up and left the room silently while Ruuji scoffed and grumbled under his breath. He silently checked the authenticity of the seal before disabling the other storage seal with the package Mito wanted to be delivered.
It was a special seal created by Mito herself before her death and only someone with the Uzumaki blood and high enough skill can undo it naturally.
Another scroll was revealed with a poof of smoke and Ruuji opened it silently before his eyelids twitched.
— If you undid this seal before the one carrying me... what the hell are you waiting for? Undo the other seal or I'll be forced to and you won't like it.—
With a sense of dread layering his heart, Ruuji undid the other seal, now not knowing what to expect.
Another burst of smoke, this time much larger than the previous message filled the room but much to the old man's horrified rustic, greyish eyes, he matched the glowing violet orbs that held impatience, annoyance, and worst of all, unbridled fury.
"I heard it," the hauntingly beautiful and sweet voice emerged from the figure, "And thank god I changed the seal so that I can sense everything happening outside. Ruuji... you little bearded cunt... you really almost made the Uzumaki drown with your stupidity, little bitch!"
The old man had heard this voice before. Long, long before. When he was just a boy. His asscheeks twitched in reminiscent pain as the figure still covered by the smoke summoned a bamboo stick.
"P-p-p-please, le- let me explain—" the man stuttered.
"No, I don't think I will."
--
Slam*
"Bah! That bearded fool!" Tsunade cursed for the umpteenth time with her cheeks heavily flushed as she gulped down the entire cup while glaring at the woman, Kai had to refill the cup and Mikoto had to bring another jar of sake to their room.
Mikoto glanced at Kai, who met her gaze. The next second, she gestured towards Tsunade with her chin as Kai scoffed and shook his head before doing the same gesture as Mikoto.
'You do it!' Both of them glared at one another as Tsunade growled, "What the hell are you two playing around for? Just sit and drink!"
"Yeah, no, that's not happening," Mikoto scoffed.
"Oh, I'll drink—"
"No!" Tsunade and Mikoto glared at the boy in tandem as he deadpanned, "Then why the offer?"
"I wanted to see who's sensible!" Tsunade grumbled.
"You're the last person to evaluate that right now, Sensei," Kai scoffed and sat down still. He didn't touch the sake but also stopped pouring it. It was a fruitless task, after all.
"Why can't we explore the village?" Mikoto finally inquired as before they could even leave, Tsunade dragged them away back into their team's room. It was already dusk outside and Mikoto just felt that it was a shame to not have experienced a land as rich as Uzushiogakure.
"Because I don't want their stupidity to rub off on you twoooo!" Tsunade slurred in annoyance and huffed before pouting.
Kai and Mikoto looked at each other again. Well aware that after the drunk phase came...
"Let's play a game between ourselves! Fuck the Uzumaki's gambling houses, I ain't paying a single ryo to them! Hmmm..." her amber orbs fell on the duo in front of her before she smirked and hiccuped, "Got it... the first rule of Senju Gambling, the greater the odds of unfavourability, the better! Let's bet who among the two of you can land a hit on me first!"
Her boisterous announcement was met by unamused stares as Kai looked at Mikoto, "Hey, wanna go to the village? Sensei gets boring when drunk. Heck, should have just tossed her top away instead of that stupid talk about bet..."
Mikoto looked at the frozen Tsunade and her gaze inadvertently fell towards the woman's breasts and she scoffed, "You know what, would have been better. Come on, I'm dying to explore Kushina's home... she even recommended a bunch of places for us to see."
The two walked out of their room while Tsunade groaned and sat down once again, grumbling under her breath, "Tch, kids these days... And why the hell would I remove my top?!"
"It would have been way better, I agree with Kai-kun. His insight has grown beyond jutsus."
"Hah, like hell it has!" Tsunade idly replied to the familiar and cozy voice, "And if you think I'd flash my students with just four jars of sake then you're wrong! It'll take 25 Jars!"
"So there really IS a number... I thought of you better but you do have your grandfather's blood. He and his boy toy would flash each other after 50 jars..."
Tsunade blinked and howled in laughter before abruptly stopping and throwing a punch back while pouncing at the figure behind her. The next second, her eyes widened as her punch, which would have shattered a Jonin, was caught by a rather delicate hand she stood in her tracks. Gaping in shock, she whispered, "This... isn't transformation jutsu..."
"Of course, not, honey. You didn't think only YOU can get better, right?" The chortle made Tsunade's lips twitch as she was becoming more and more sure of her evaluation.
'A devilish fox!'

Uzu was quite the right description for a paradise. Kai and Mikoto, being the only non-redheads, had the attention of the masses but none interrupted their exploration as they kept the Uzumaki symbol on the back of their palm visible for others to see. But it was wondrous for Kai and Mikoto to see so many redheads at once, too.
"Woah..." Mikoto quietly whispered as the trail of completely sealed lanterns hanging by the branches made the Island even more beautiful during night, the sight of which took Mikoto's breath away and she soon noticed that many Uzumakis wore light and colorful Yukatas as their daily wear. Kushina's wardrobe had many but Konoha really didn't have that kind of culture itself. Even Kai and Mikoto wore their usual green flak jackets with their usual comfortable but secure attire underneath.
"Man... I wanna try one..." Kai mumbled, realizing he would look smashingly good in one of these... as an adult. But he should have his divine charm even in this kiddy body, right? He was already putting on muscles in the right places!
"Why don't we?" Mikoto's gaze glimmered, "Even the clan compound doesn't have tailors that can stitch such colorful Yukata." Her smile widened as she caught Kai receptive to the idea and they soon inquired one of the helpful Uzumakis. Oh, who were they kidding? The moment Kai and Mikoto asked one of the older women, many other civilians with chakra similar to a genin surrounded them and began to give their own suggestions of the best tailor on the island. In essence... the Uzumaki clan was filled with chakra freaks that could boast the kindest of hearts and the fiercest of tempers at once!
Damn, Kai didn't know whether to feel insulted by their kekkei genkai that made many have a base chakra higher than his own base or just applaud their chivalrous nature... maybe he could clap slowly as to point his distaste?
Still, Mikoto and Kai stood in front of a cubic structure boasting a rather beautiful shop front decorated by wooden dummies in colorful Yukata with the store itself named— Whirlpool Pride.
Sliding the wooden door open, Kai and Mikoto ventured into the shop, a few customers— mothers with their children— present, looking through the rolled-up Yukata designs.
"Ohya? Outsiders? Isn't that rare?" A dwarf of a redheaded Uzumaki with large, round-rimmed glassed jumped down from her seat. Her height was even shorter than Kai's as she had a subtle case of buck teeth and her red hair was cut shortly close to the level of her ears in a bob cut.
"Well—" Kai smirked but fearing the worst, Mikoto interjected with a polite smile, "Hello, were brought in by Chunin Heijo for a mission and found ourselves... wanting a change in our clothes to enjoy the sights Uzushiogakure has to offer. Do you have any suggestions?"
The woman looked at the duo with a deep frown on her face that tugged on the slight wrinkles of her forehead and she turned on her heels, "Come on, follow me. Be quick about it!"
The woman led them to one of the nearest carts that displayed the rolled clothes but while Kai and Mikoto barely managed to see through them due to the height of the cart, the store owner herself spoke as if having memorized everything about the store, "You, pale one, take the roll of dark blue yukata with yellow blooms. And boy, get the plain dark blue one with yellow stripes next to the yellow blooms."
Kai stretched his arms forward while Mikoto hesitated and inquired, "Can I get something more colorful—"
"Are you a piece of firework?" The woman's temper flared the next second as Mikoto blushed while others snickered. Scoffing, Kai growled, "Look at her, of course, she is!"
The store owner blinked while Mikoto shot him a glare yet her blush deepened somewhat while Kai picked the plain blue one, "If anything... I wanted something in a black shade..."
"Black is all gunks like you can think," the owner snorted and looked at Mikoto, "Get it, girl. Or do you want someone else to have a Yukata paired with the boy calling you a firecracker?"
"Tch, just... shut it," Mikoto mumbled under her breath while quietly picking up the roll and walking with the owner again.
"I'm Kai. What's your name?" Kai stepped up and walked alongside the dwarf, the soles of whose sandal filled the store with hurried clattering noise as she gave him an uninterested look, "Not interested kid, and stop gawking at me!"
Kai blanched as he heard Mikoto's snicker, "What a shame. I thought she was good for you, Kai-chan," her chortle making him somewhat annoyed as he rolled his eyes and fell back with Mikoto.
But what surprised Kai and Mikoto was something that came after the owner returned to her seat and looked at the duo for a second before slapping her palms together. With a poof, two yarns of blue threads appeared on the table and Kai could feel the woman's chakra flowing out and only then realized how the genin reserves she showed were false and it was easily close to 60000 points!
'Chakra suppression? I've tried it a few times but the specific action still isn't being confirmed... must have other conditions to get this skill,' Kai narrowed his eyes, and the next second, he sensed the woman's chakra form into threads that filtered the yarn and stuck to their roll of clothes before everything started to float in front of them. With threads of chakra holding the two needles, Kai realized that the woman was sewing their Yukata at an astonishing speed.
Even Mikoto had her Sharingan activated but the sight of Mikoto's eyes only made the woman scoff while she continued to do her work.
'Chakra threads... they're kind of like [Chakra Scalpel, useful and discreet... I'll have to try it later... maybe other shapes, too? Can I form a loophole by just making more shapes?' Kai wondered. Shape Transformation of chakra was right up there with Nature Transformation in its importance so Kai had that in mind, too.
"There, that'll be 15000 Ryo each." The woman presented their clothes to them soon enough as Kai inquired, "Where can we change?"
"This is a Tailor Store, boy. Go change in the bushes or something!" The woman barked as Kai shot her a glare while resisting the urge to flip her off.
"Dwarf..."
"What did you call me?"
Kai bolted while shouting, "A redheaded kiddy dwarf! What you gonna do? Bite me?!"
Mikoto gasped but had enough reaction speed to be just behind Kai as she hissed, "Did you have to say that?"
"Oh, please, that old kid was worse than Kushina!"
"Still... we have to go back to the Clan Head's mansion to change..." Mikoto groaned as Kai stopped and looked around.
"You're not thinking—" Before she could complete, Kai was lost in the bushes before the sound of his clothes shuffling could be heard, making Mikoto all the more embarrassed.
--
"Was that so hard?" Kai smirked as he looked at Mikoto with an appraising glance. She really had nothing to ogle at but she was cute, Kai would give her that. Letting her dark bluish hair down with the fine print of yellow blooming flowers on her dark yukata alongside the thick yellow belt made her quite refreshing to look at.
"You always have something to say..." Mikoto floundered, blushing but looking at Kai somewhat expectantly. It was an instinctive reaction since she didn't expect Kai of all people to have anything to say—
"You look cute, Mikoto-chan," Kai grinned, his Yukata really making them look like a young couple.
— And she certainly didn't expect herself to feel a moment of smug satisfaction to his words.
"You look... good, too..." Mikoto smiled, "Kai-chan."
So, the curse of 'chan' still continued.
The two stared at one another for some time before Mikoto inquired, "You really didn't peep, right?"
"I keep telling you. You have nothing for me to peep at..." Kai dodged the odd punches here and there before Mikoto huffed and adjusted herself.
"Well, you have a small thingy, too..."
"Yeah, that would work on Jiraiya or some other grown-up... I'm just a boy. It would be weird if I didn't," Kai, the boy living a lie, shrugged innocently making Mikoto, even more peeved, as this particular insult does rile quite a lot of youngsters her age in the Uchiha Compound.
"Should we go check that ramen place Kushina was on about... or the dango shop we passed?" Kai inquired as Mikoto instantly forgot everything and held his hand before dragging him away with a grin, "Do you need to ask? The princess wants her Dangos!"
Kai snickered and caught up to her to at least not get dragged while not really weird about her hands holding his. She'd done this plenty of times.
--
"Hehe, who would have thought this is better than the benches," Mikoto giggled happily while swaying her dangling feet over the branch slightly given that the Yukata hindered her movements somewhat. A large leaf was set on her lap with sticks of dango placed on the leaf as Kai and Mikoto would pick one and eat with a lighthearted expression.
Only now did Mikoto realize how high she was strung from the mission before while Kai just enjoyed the view and the company, yet lost in his own thoughts, too.
"What's going on, Kai-chan?" Mikoto inquired while swallowing her snack as he shrugged, "Oh, yeah, I was thinking about the technique that tailor showed us..."
"Training? Even now?" Mikoto scoffed with a pout and gave him a sidelong glance.
"Nope, just planning to. Right now, these dangos are just fine," Kai smirked and after a moment of silence, Mikoto whispered, "The surviving members in the village won't even tell other shinobis what the war is like... my father included. Is there some kind of confidentiality restricted to you and Sensei?"
"Not really but who even likes talking about war?" Kai shrugged, "I would rather drone about Genjutsu Applications with Orochimaru-san or... cultured applications with Jiraiya-san. Don't tell Sensei though, she'd go all crazy blaming me that I am thinking less of her as a teacher... which she'd be right about, of course!"
"Then why don't you apply to leave the team," Mikoto muttered sourly as Kai grinned and nudged her shoulders, "And leave you guys? No way. I'll be the luckiest duck in the village... give it a few years!"
Mikoto snorted but a humored smile soon gave way as she began to giggle a little while later, "I guess, you COULD be the luckiest but Sensei still won't see you more than a child."
"Oh, I'm not just talking about Sensei," Kai spoke with a humbled expression and looked far into the distance as if already seeing his bright... fluffy future. Maybe a bit muscular, too? Hmm, a little chubby won't hurt anyone either.
Shaking her head, Mikoto smiled and leaned her head against the boy, "Nobody would be interested in a hopeless fellow like you!" she smirked while resting her head on his shoulder now that the difference in their heights was minimal.
"Oh, you're wrong, plenty of people are interested in me... but I still hate the fact that bastard of a chunin thought he'd get it with me!"
Mikoto blinked and questioned again, "Say what?"
"Oh? I didn't tell you about this? Hah, you'll have a good laugh with this one. So our team in Ame had a chunin named Hisoko, a real perverted-looking guy. So, while others are relieving and having fun with the Inuzuka chunin and the other one I told you about, this guy just comes up to me, saying I looked damn fine and he'd never meet a better man than me—"
"Come on, you're just bragging! Get to the hood stuff!" Mikoto groaned as Kai smirked, "Fine, fine. Of course, I refused. But he said he would not take a no for an answer. Before I could cut his nuts off as the second answer... Orochimaru stopped and pinned me down..."
"That sounds worse..." Mikoto giggled, letting her mind wander to the darkest of places as Kai pouted, "Tch, dirty mind."
"Kai... kun," Mikoto muttered, making his eyelids jump wildly.
What was this sweet sensation, he wondered.
"Do you want to sit here? We can explore the village later." She added.
The sweet sensation grew even thicker as Kai looked a little dazed before realizing the meaning of it.
"Sure... let's stay here... Mikoto-chan." He grinned. Enjoying the sweet sensation of victory as her annoyed scoff rang the two sat and ate in pleasant silence.
But the curse of 'chan' had broken. For him, at least.
Recognized— Kun!

While Kai was a little somber now that four out of the five temporary skills were filled, he was quite satisfied with what he had gained in just a night. Shape Transformation unlocked the moment he formed a chakra thread but the grind dictated that he would quickly get the chakra thread done with due to the simple fact that it was more useful. At max level, the thread would disappear from normal eyesight, too, like the woman's display last night.
He looked at the sleeping duo not far from him. Well, he was quite aware that Tsunade was awake. For hours, now. She kept his attention on him while making sure to put herself in the most defenseless position... something she did in war to give others a reason to try and get it done with her and then, give HER a reason to relieve herself by issuing a good beating.
Kai learned from his mistakes and won't fall for that trick again.
Eventually, Tsunade sat up silently with a scowl and glared at Kai, making the boy roll his eyes as he fed the chakra string with his... well, chakra.
"How'd you learn about Chakra Threads?" Tsunade inquired while adjusting the collars of her baggy nighty as Kai plainly described to her about the tailor last night and Tsunade nodded, "Well, it's not just tailoring. Sunagakure uses this technique for puppet ninjutsu. Excellent to practice chakra control, too... and something a little more advanced that we will practice later if possible."
Kai smirked secretly. That knowledge was already at the tips of his fingers, waiting to be unveiled with the grind!
"Anyway, did you two enjoy last night?" Tsunade inquired while Mikoto continued to sleep like a baby after feeling relaxed last night.
"We did... uh, is the mission complete? So? Can we leave now?"
Kai inquired as Tsunade adopted a slightly difficult expression.
"About that... the Uzumaki leader insisted we stay for a few more days."
Kai silently narrowed his eyes. [Chakra Empath] allowed him to sense a broad spectrum of intents and he kept this skill a secret to himself. It was handy, after all. For instance, now. Tsunade just lied, but about what?
Was it the fact that another reason persuaded her to stay or the fact that they weren't staying here at all?
"Oh... alright," Kai nodded, "I'll just train then."
Poof*
And the next second, he transformed himself into a mattress before reverting into his real form but this was just the beginning. After the eleventh blast of smoke, Mikoto finally woke up with an irritated expression as Kai continued to grind [Essence Transformation] with [Chakra Threads.]
Team Tsunade's morning was quite uneventful. Seeing Kai train with a devilish focus, Mikoto was persuaded enough to start her morning with the grind, too, slowly but eventually stepping on its divine path while Tsunade closed her eyes and meditated. Yet, Kai felt her chakra being fed into the diamond-shaped seal in the middle of her forehead.
Their breakfast was delivered by Ruriko and then their brunch, at Tsunade's insistence, was brought in by Heijo. Yet... Kai and Mikoto noticed that, unlike yesterday, they felt hurried. Pressed. They no longer looked casual.

Hiruzen returned to his office and a tired sigh escaped his lips soon after when he saw the elders present and waiting for him.
"What did the Daimyo's envoy convey?" Danzo inquired once Hiruzen got a brief respite as the middle-aged man leaned on his table and stated in a low tone, "Things aren't looking good... the Fire Daimyo just sent the information that Lightning, Water, and Earth Daimyos are blaming Uzushiogakure for their hand in the sudden increase of slave trading and harming their interests. You know, this is related to the sudden increase of Uzumaki Seals among common bandits and such... even the Land of Fire has been quite affected."
Hiruzen's words were met with silence as they already knew all this. "Later reports from my sources confirmed that our ally, Uzushiogakure had nothing to do with this as their trading items were purchased under dubious circumstances and in a large amount. But, the fact remains that the three countries are pressuring the Land of Fire for answers as Uzushiogakure cut off all the communications. Land of Wind would have done the same thing if their temporary allies— Kumo and Iwa— didn't turn on Suna for using a Jinchuriki in war."
Exhaling gently, Hiruzen mustered somewhat tiredly, "Land of Fire is insisting Konoha to cut ties with Uzu but I... feel that is not the right course of action. Uzu is highly fortified and this can be used if—" he continued to add some strategies that would utilize a dormant Uzu but when he was done, Danzo tore all faces.
"The Uzumaki seals were supplied to the bandits and other civilian outlaws not only in Land of Fire but also Land of Lightning, Earth, and Water. This gives the countries a rightful reason to invade the Land of Whirlpools now that the war has begun and the three countries want to suppress Konoha... so that we cannot send support. And this timing only solidifies our concern that the enemy is aware of Mito-sama's death and is only now targeting the Uzumaki openly... is that it?"
His words silenced the room as Hiruzen silently clenched his fists and nodded.
"Then even if you take this to the War Council, let me save you the trouble, in the time of war, the Uzushiogakure has refused to lend a hand of assistance. I WILL move to the motion of ending Konoha's alliance with Uzu and many council members will agree to it. That's just logic. With the three countries prepared to invade Uzu, it will give Konoha a moment of respite and break down Suna. Even if the final decision is in your hand, Sarutobi, even you wouldn't want something bad for the village"
Hiruzen stared at the collected Danzo and shifted his attention to his other two teammates.
"And you two?"
"It is logical and beneficial if Konoha comes out on top," Homura had a downcast expression.
"Hiruzen... it must be done," Koharu uttered.
"Sigh... call the council, it needs to be discussed still."
--
"You should stop increasing the weight of your chakra mesh vest if you're serious about sparring with me," Tsunade popped the gaps in her knuckles as Kai stood in front of her with his frame somewhat slouched while Mikoto was now training to transform herself in various things, too. The idea of transforming into a bird was indeed amazing and but she needed to make up for the lack of knowledge by even more hard work.
The fact that Tsume could easily transform into her ninken only asserted that this idea was possible. But Kai and Mikoto had yet to find a size of transformation that also supported their weights because that's one thing that cannot be transformed.
"I'm always serious," Kai remarked seriously but kept his weights, not only the vest, but wrists and ankle ones, too, on. While the weight on his torso was already around 700 kg while the wrist and ankle weights were purchased just an hour ago. The Uzumaki seal-type weights were the same as his vest but somewhat inferior because his mesh vest was lined with chakra metal processed into fine threads. Still, his wrists were burdened by 200 kg each in the form of a red wrist band, and his ankles bore him down by an additional 400 kg each.
For even an adult genin, this was a back-breaking endeavor, and Kai wouldn't have gone to such extreme weights just yet even if strong enough as it may risk stunting his growth but... god damn, chakra is useful as heck. While this much weight would have receded his height in his previous world, here, it only meant growth!
Pure grind equivalent to high growth!
What a simple but awesome world this is!
Unamused, Tsunade warned again, "I won't go easy... ah, but you knew that. Well, get ready then," she smiled and bent her knees somewhat to make her spine more rooted before she vanished from his view.
Poof*
Crack*
The punch instantly tore through the log that Kai had read and transformed into the form of a kunai. Most shinobis would either carry logs with them all day long by transforming them as such since their weights barely meant anything to the strong or they would use seal... Kai did both.
Annoyed by his Body Replacement Jutsu that almost seemed as perfect as the quiet freaks of Anbu, Tsunade snorted and already located Kai barely being able to balance himself after the previous body flicker to escape by predicting her attack.
"There!"
Tsunade grinned, her hand forming a seal for a moment as the ground around her turned into a black swamp that stopped Kai from burrowing into the ground but he wasn't out of options. Jumping was hard with his increased weights but that's where Water Release came in.
[Water Release: Freeze Wave]
[Water Release: Hazy Mist]
Using two C-rank jutsus barely had any impact on his current reserves but bolstered by a freeze wave, the mist grew thicker around Kai while the swamp around him froze and dried, allowing Kai to break free from its grasp with a grunt while sensing Tsunade's excitement and her chakra as she shot into the small world of hazy mist only for something strange to stun him in place. He looked sideways and frowned as the punch broke through his head and with a puff of smoke, tore the poor log, eliciting another annoyed groan.
Flickering towards the deeper section of foliage, Kai looked at the masked woman in white sitting on the branch as her light violet pupils trailed in his direction.
"Hehe," the light giggle echoed as Tsunade stopped in her tracks and grew further frustrated, something that Kai could sense as she was not far from him.

Beyond the porcelain mask that held the woman's violet eyes, Kai noticed many other things. Hints, more like, that made his breath hitch for a moment. The woman's bright red hair was tied into two perfect buns, the kind that you'd wanna hold from behind with a golden, fan-shaped headdress pinned on her hair. Two paper tags hung from each of the hair buns.
The Left one had— Taming the Fox.
The Right on contained— Still on Top.
His gaze, however, silently trailed down. The woman wore light, which also meant she had her curves exposed to others. Slender and filled in just the right places, a little lacking when it compared to his Sensei, Kai noticed. He's an honest boy, after all. But what attracted him were the uncovered feet of the woman. Nah, he wasn't into THAT.
But he'd been focused on only a single set of feet for two years. Wrinkled or not, he'd recognize the pair in an instant.
Just the silent hints, that Kai knew the figure purposely gave, however, made him peeved. Cranking back the pressure of the fuinjutsu weights on his body to normal, Kai gave the woman a look. It may not be his place to speak so... overbearingly but damnit, he loved Mito, and impersonating her younger self, the picture of whom he'd also seen in the Uzumaki mansion back in Konoha, wasn't appreciated at all!
"That's a joke in bad taste," Kai scowled, "You could have done several things, like maybe crashing the funeral or something else but impersonating a dead woman? That's 0 points from me."
Tsunade and the woman behind the mask were stunned before they blinked and the lady in the mask chortled, "0, huh? You've soured my heart, dear. So? You seem annoyed enough. What will you do about this?"
Kai noticed that the woman's chakra was beneath even a genin. A chakra suppression technique, he realized. But that also meant the woman would need time, no matter how short, to utilize chakra again and that would be his chance to set the woman straight. But...
'Why the hell is Tsunade amused...?' Kai was stunned. Wasn't Mito her grandma? Didn't she have an ounce of compassion? Even Kai felt he had just one... or two ounces of it but he, at least, did!
'Unless...' He hesitated for a second. Again, he knew that nobody around him was aware that he can sense intent in their chakra. While the woman in front of him could even mask her intent, Tsunade couldn't. Despite the frown on his Sensei's face, she was mad cackling inwardly!
'One way to find out...' Kai smirked as his entire intent converged. His muscles tensed and his whole body screamed a sense of aggression he rarely revealed.
He licked his dry lips for a second and then tested the grounds as he intended after a moment of logical deduction. Of course, if he had gamer mind, he would know just the kind of risk he was taking since battling would have been easier.
"If you wanted to impersonate Mito-sama... at least get her toes straight. She had ugly ones. Thick, brawny, sometimes stinking! Her nails jutted out and whatnot. Yours are just fin—"
Kai didn't need to see his life flash past against him to move at a quick speed as dodging was easier than wasting a millisecond on Body Replacement Jutsu.
Tsunade's expression was frozen as the masked lady's punch tore into the ground before causing massive ruptures that pushed chunks of earth up and uprooted the trees.
"Oh... I'm now sore and annoyed," her melodious chime echoed as Kai scowled even harder and stood his ground this time, "And what? All that drama was just bullshit?"
His words stopped the woman in her tracks as he was covered in a poof and the next second, he transformed into an elderly Mito who spoke in her aged voice, "Oh, Kai, take care of Kushina. Oh, Kai-kun, accept the mission. Oh, brat, study harder. Oh, boy, your fuinjutsu is subpar..." Every time this 'Mito' spoke, her expression would sometimes show kindness and sometimes exasperation as if she was the real Mito herself.
Poof*
Kai reverted once he was done and waited for his answer. No, he wasn't being a little bitch with feelings but damn, Kushina cried the hardest, and for what? A sham? No matter how logical the woman's reason would be... Kai felt he had given enough to demand an explanation in return. And he was certainly filled with sass that annoyed both the women in front of him, something Kai could feel... even from the masked one.
"What happened—" The commotion attracted Mikoto who stood beside Tsunade and had her Sharingan working while throwing the masked lady a cautious look.
But her words only elicited a reaction from Tsunade who waved her hand and signaled the Uchiha fledgling to not make a move while the figure wearing a loose but thin white dress and Kai continued to stare at one another.
And then she stepped towards him, making Mikoto tense but seeing Tsunade unmoving, she had to stay rooted, too, lest she'd be written up for insubordination... again.
Very soon, the woman towered over Kai. Her calm gaze pinned him down as her muffled whisper echoed softly enough so that only he could hear her, "I really am sorry. No excuses for it, really. But I'd say what I did was beneficial for me, you, and Kushina."
Uncaring if he was pressing his luck, he demanded, "How?"
"Beneficial for me because I am free of my previous obligations and can give support where I must. I have to thank you for that... and in time, I will. Beneficial for Kushina because she gained the only complete Uzumaki legacy that rested with me. And beneficial for you because I allowed Kushina to share it with whomever she wishes. We both know who she would share it with once she starts practicing herself."
Kai scoffed, "And did you think that she would want to learn things beforehand just to be all smug about it? And how is making her a Jinchuriki beneficial?"
She didn't explain anymore as her hand fell on his head and ruffled his hair, "I meant what I said. And..." her gentle coo turned into a frosty whisper as she leaned down while her hand was only a few tense muscles away from balling his hair, "What was that about toes?"
"Ah," Kai smirked, "I meant, what they'd be like if I wasn't there to massage them every day. And this brings me to the next part... how about I continue my services? Even if for a day? I could... maybe massage your whole body and make it more beautiful..."
Her giggle echoed through the mask as her eyes glinted for a second. Yet... how the hell she still kept her chakra and intent so hidden was out of his scope of understanding at the moment.
"Some other day when I really feel tired. As you can see... age is just a number after all. It's the mind that needs to stay young."
"Okay, I got none of it," Kai blurted as she stood up again, "You will, probably. I came before you BECAUSE I did not wish for any misunderstanding," she asserted, "And I trust you. Enough that I'm offering to remove that mark... you can keep the shell of the mark to prove your status as the guardian in Konoha but the rest isn't needed."
Kai looked at the back of his hands. He was well aware that the reason why she was offering this wasn't just trust. No, according to what she had revealed long before, he always had her trust... but some things needed to be done, that's all. Yet, the mark was also a test. It was probably an A-rank fuinjutsu mark, in Kai's opinion and he could remove it once he reaches that level of mastery.
But...
He beamed, "It doesn't make any sense to keep it on as a test for my skills later on, huh. Sure, I'd forgive you after you remove the mark."
The woman scoffed as she held both of his hands while the seals on his arms, both, the Uzumaki and the Senju ones, were completely hollowed out, "Not that I needed your forgiveness, cheeky brat..."
"But I forgive you," He chortled with a smirk, making the woman shake her head, "Makes me wonder if it even impacted you enough or not."
"Oh, it did. Why else would I have even gotten angry otherwise?" Kai tilted his head and checked the seals on his hands before nodding internally. It was an unexpected gain, really. Now he can 'maliciously' spank the Uzumaki disaster in their home in Konoha.
"Hmm, be a good boy. I'll keep in contact with only you in Konoha, Tsunade knows that. I don't have to tell you to not spread the news about this, right?"
Had it been Kai... he would have used a similar seal on someone else to make them keep the secret but just her lack of it in this regard made him quite... emotional. Oh, he would cry a river if he wasn't distracted by the smashable grandma's body.
"Uh, yeah, of course. Can I ask you something?"
"I have many matters to take care of... but sure, your team would be leaving today so I can entertain one last question."
"Is this a transformation jutsu?"
Smirking underneath her mask, she giggled, "Get strong enough to find out."
'Not old enough?' Before Kai could even share his thoughts, the woman's body disappeared in a flicker, way faster than his own but not as silent, making him a little proud about his Chakra Paws skill.
Kai glanced at Tsunade who now sported a discreet smirk herself, making him roll his eyes and groan.
Women— vicious ones indeed. And he just had to desire a whole lot of them, didn't he?
Compared to all of them, the gentle Nono and the sweet pup Tsume were beginning to look better options to find friendship in.
--
As 'she' predicted, or maybe concocted behind the scenes, Team Tsunade left Uzushiogakure three hours later once Ruuji Uzumaki, the Uzushiokage, provided them with his seal of acceptance that would be delivered to their Hokage and mark the end of their mission but... once Heijo left, surprising even Team Tsunade was the act of the space-time ninjutsu seal suddenly fizzling out.
Uzushiogakure just cut off the last contact with the outside world.

Tsunade, Kai, and Mikoto looked at the large sealing matrix dissolving in the air and looked at one another before Tsunade reminded her apprentices, "We still aren't clear from the previous situation. Remain alert."
The trio climbed up the edge of the cliff only after making sure that no ambushes were laid down for them.
Poof*
Tsunade made a discreet hand seal and the next second, a perfect copy of her emerged into existence with both of their chakra getting equally divided into the two, making it even impossible for the current Kai to know the difference between Tsunade and her shadow clone unless he saw it himself. But the two made yet another hand seal, further halving their chakra and still managing to have chakra reserves way more that Kushina herself.
The moment Tsunade nodded, the three clones dispersed while the real Tsunade looked at Kai and Mikoto, "Let's go. If we're really being pursued, it's a matter of time before we're found out but the clones should distract anyone ahead. Meanwhile, we'll take the longer route."
What Tsunade said was true indeed. Even if they did turn into birds, their chakra would be utilized and any sensor worth his salt would find them. Even before that, to pass off as any species of bird, they needed to completely study its patterns and behavior to avoid suspicion and they did not have time for that.
'So... isn't it better to transform into some underground animal instead and dig deeper into the ground where chakra sensing is somewhat restricted and the fact that nobody would really focus underground...' Kai wondered as they prepared themselves mentally for anything that could possibly be thrown at them.
--
Team Tsunade constantly moved from one branch to another in the dense forest of the Land of Fire while keeping sparse with the traps unlike before but their traps only grew more deadly and unexpected. They adopted traps that, if successful, would accumulate poison of various kinds in their enemies. The various traps itself was laced with the tiniest amount of poison possible to not alert the enemies.
"Hng?" Tsunade grunted after an hour or so before she sported a massive scowl.
"There WAS an ambush over the same path we took before. My clones only managed to sense five shinobis, all masked but they seemed to know about my skills... extensively. The clones only took one of them out... They've come prepared. Mikoto, protect your eyes if they catch up. They would aim for Sharingan because it's a troublesome ability." Tsunade didn't have any word of advice for Kai given that he was their scout in the war alongside Hizashi and did an amazing job in the first place.
Even without needing her to speak anything, Kai's awareness spread out. He had developed his own way of battle in various situations but he mostly utilized close-quarter combat techniques in tandem with either venom-laced Kunai or Genjutsu. Ninjutsu, for Kai, was far more effective in setting up a territorial advantage than directly attacking an enemy, especially in war, since most ninjutsu would alert the nearby shinobi.
Now that he was with a team, his conditions changed, too. He knew that Tsunade was more of a Taijutsu practitioner and even she couldn't use the Chakra Scalpel Technique in the battle due to the sheer focus it utilizes and instead uses another jutsu that enhances her damage output by several layers. Mikoto, on the other hand, had developed and steered into the class of ranged shinobi and rarely entered a direct conflict but as Tsunade remarked... Sharingan was a freaking hack that could cause enemies a lot of trouble.
So... Kai himself was the least favorable target amongst his current team and that gave him the predictable advantage of choice.
They managed to travel for another hour safely but that was about it.
"Two of them seem to be affected enough," Kai noted as Tsunade and Mikoto nodded. But it still irked Kai how easily their pursuers seem to realize which direction and tracks Team Tsunade would use... if it wasn't clear before that their pursuers were intimate with the choices a Konoha nin would make then it was becoming increasingly clear now.
Even if one of the better assault teams of Konoha just by the sheer virtue of Tsunade's love taps, the trio knew NOT to stop and let the enemy surround them. They'd either keep moving and keep the advantage of the distance or fight while moving, aiming for one-shots and were aware that the enemy would be doing the same.
This was no sparring and there is only one way to end this quickly. With—
'Fatality!' Kai rumbled with a deep voice inwardly, smirking short after as he suddenly formed a hand seal which made air visibly ripple around him as a thick trail of mist began to ooze from his body. Had he stayed in one place, the mist would have grown outward but moving made it so that the thick trail followed them.
Mikoto frowned and hissed, "Stop doing that! It will—"
"No..." Tsunade narrowed her eyes, "Good work. Let's see the result."
Kai snickered as he formed one earth and one water clone that rushed into mist before the mist now began to grow further while Kai's earth clone was designed to follow the water clone. This was one of the many flaws of the two elemental clones— ingenuity and Kai wondered if he could somehow share his senses with them.
"Sensei, what's going on?"
"Kai would usually lure the enemies in the trail of smoke with the belief he was moving while carefully hiding in the trail of mist himself. His water clone would be the one moving and constantly creating mist. This tactic allowed him to slay a team of 4 Iwa Nin in Amegakure and this feat was in my report, too..."
Mikoto frowned as Kai drawled, "I'm trying to assess if the enemy has their hands on our report, too. If it's true, then you're in luck Mikoto-chan, you just became our ace!"
His chortle did not make Mikoto feel any better... well, she DID feel a little better being called an ace and all that but still...
A few minutes later and Kai's brows twitched. "The Water clone was found and removed Too bad I don't get any experience like the shadow clones are functioned to do, huh."
"Stop being a sass queen and report about the Earth Clone," Tsunade snorted.
"It's still there."
"Hmm," Tsunade nodded, a little relieved. Hiding in the mist is just one part of the tactic in the mist. The other was using the Earth Clones to destabilize the enemy the moment they show any weakness.
"Ah, it's gone now," Kai reported the next second, making Tsunade scowl.
'It couldn't be Sensei, right?' Tsunade frowned. War reports are considered S-ranked Secrets similar to Anbu Corps information but there are others besides the Hokage that can have a look at the reports, especially during the war. For instance... the elders, the Jonin Commander, or the Commander of the Anbu Corps.
But before she could think any further, Tsunade stopped in her tracks and frowned for a second before sending a disastrous punch near the trunk where she stood, and only then did Mikoto and Kai caught the sight of a tiny... strangely painted bug that was squashed into ink, its chakra so minuscule that even Kai hadn't registered it.
They didn't wait for an explanation from Tsunade but moved instead and their Sensei huffed in anger, "That's a technique known as Super Beast Imitating Drawing. Consider it a more animated but offensive offshoot of Fuinjutsu and it's full of sneaky skills. And..."
Tsunade hesitated for a second before she steeled her heart, "If this technique is here, there is no reason to discredit that other secret techniques may also be present. Steel your minds for any form of possession techniques."
'That's Yamanaka Clan's quirk, right?' Kai and Mikoto blinked.
"Powerful genjutsu traps may just be the norm to affect our timing," Tsunade added with a frown and looked a little unsure.
"Maybe there's an Uchiha in there, too," Mikoto scoffed with a frown as Tsunade was just trying to maneuver around the obvious.
"There... may just be one," Tsunade whispered as Mikoto's eyes twitched while Kai had trouble resisting the urge to smile.
"Didn't they use any special technique against your clones?" Kai inquired.
"No, which makes their strength even more obvious," Tsunade narrowed her eyes as her expression grew sullen, "It's a shame..."
"What is?" Mikoto blinked.
"That we have to kill such quality shinobi... well, I only expect the two of you to hold them off till I'm there if we are intercepted."
The duo nodded while Mikoto activated her Sharingan. While Kai had to grind his sensory skills... with SP, all Mikoto needed was to expend a bit more chakra to have a range of detection similar to him and even more precise in close-range.
'Maybe... I really should get a Byakugan...' Kai scowled before removing that thought for the time being. Nothing good comes from... unplanned greed.
Soon, their advantage of distance was getting smaller and smaller. The opponents were clearly stronger than Kai and Mikoto physically and Tsunade having to keep her speed around the duo's match made it so that the six opponents, two of whom showed signs of instability due to the poisonous traps from before, were upon Team Tsunade and sensible enough, Kai and Mikoto instantly found their targets in the weakened opponents while Tsunade snorted and growled, forming a set of hand seals and smacking the ground.
'Summoning Technique!'
A large plume of smoke instantly covered a small section of the forest and Mikoto instantly flickered with Kai as the opponent's first act was, as predicted, to surround the team.
'Wind Release: Great Breakthrough!' One of the assailants let out a dome of whipping wind from their body that instantly dispersed the smoke while two sharp clangs of metal rang.
Kai narrowed his eyes at the masked opponent who even went above and beyond to cover their heads and not reveal a strand of their hair. Their masks were flat with only thin slits for their eyes as his Kunai was parried by the man's short sword.
Mikoto, on the other hand, was even more relentless as she instantly entered into a bladed weapon with the other Kunai user.
These two assailants were the only ones who were weakened somewhat by their traps.
On the other hand, the remaining four opponents looked at the giant slug towering over them with Tsunade standing on top of its head. With its length easily surpassing eight meters, the giant whitish slug had three blue long streaks running down its body. Yet the four shinobi looked prepared for anything that may come their way but unlike Mikoto and Kai, Tsunade wasn't keen on starting a battle where she would fall at a disadvantage pretty quickly.
'Tsunade-sama,' the optical tentacles of the slug moved slightly as a subservient and gentle voice echoed in Tsunade's head as she merely hummed in acknowledgment while keeping her gaze on the four as if trying to discover something essential.
"Katsuyu," Tsunade couldn't communicate similar to her summon, "The moment one of them moves, spray them with your acid."
The giant slug's other two sensory tentacles swayed slightly as the tension around them only grew.
The noise of the metallic clash of Tsunade's apprentices and the other two shinobi tackling them didn't bother the main party.
"Identify yourself," Tsunade remarked coldly knowing full well that it wasn't about to happen but all she needed were a few seconds.
"Careful," one of the four shinobi spoke with a callous tone and moved the next second, causing the remaining three to shift instantly as miniature slugs tore out from the ground and pounced on the four individuals while the giant slug sprayed a burst of corrosive yellow acid and silently Tsunade's body submerged into the slug's liquid physique.
"Tch," one of the four shinobi clicked their tongue as Tsunade's body was ejected from the side of Katsuyu's body at high pressure and she targeted the same individual that clicked his tongue for the briefest moment.
Buzz*
A wave of tiny bugs flew out from the sleeves of one of the shinobi but Tsunade seemed pretty intent on taking care of her target.
Yet not the least bit intimidated, the figure stretched his hand out and held his palms with a gap in between to look through his hands as if targeting Tsunade with a scope.
'Mind Transfer Technique!'
The individual's body fell to the ground as if a puppet losing its strings while Tsunade stopped in her tracks and then she quickly formed hand seals yet, the next second—
Poof*
This Tsunade dispersed into a plume of smoke while the insects rushed past the smoke and toward the slowly awakening shinobi of their team. After all—
Crack*
A punch tore through the man's abdomen as Tsunade shot out from the ground, this time, smirking coldly and hissing, "Did you fuckers think I don't know how to tackle your clan techniques?" And while she spoke, she pulled the man impaled on her fist as she sensed a chakra reaction from him and tore him in a bloody half before he could actually activate the suicide seal and threw one half of the bloody chunk towards the insects with a force that crushed quite a dozens of the buzzing critters.

Kai's eyelids jumped at the bloody display. Tsunade rarely acted this... brutally but her experience in medical-nin made her impervious to blood and organs for the most part. Yet, he didn't dare take his attention from the opponent in front of him. His kunai constantly parried the man calmly. Oh, he was thinking of hundred of ways to kill the man but the quickest and the easiest method to deal with him would be using a technique Kai hadn't used and hence, wasn't reported to the higher-ups and it would help if the technique he uses isn't expected in battle at all.
This certainly removed the gas bombs and flash bangs including the explosive Senbons but the opponent also had a give. The man was too comfortable with the sword and the fact that he was one of the two to enter the traps laid down by Team Tsunade meant that despite being a good chakra user, it wasn't the man's greatest suit. Information like this mattered in the battle.
'Mad sword skills... could be a Hatake or a Gekko...' Kai leaned away to dodge the blade while throwing the kunai at the man as he leaned away.
'Yeah, not enough chakra senses in the heat of a battle,' Kai concluded with a blank expression as the Kunai suddenly poofed with a chakra seal emerging on the Kunai and—
Bang*
He rushed into the explosion, however. He hadn't used an explosive kunai until today but he already saw the man's body flicker as what was left happened to be a splintered log. Yet, the poisoned shinobi's reaction was affected enough that even Kai could react to something as basic yet annoying as a Body Replacement Jutsu. The Shinobi in front of him clearly had a jonin level reserve of about 100000 points and a refined body but still, his left sleeve was ripped apart and his forearm was singed.
The opponent narrowed his eyes and shot forward while straining his body. His sword left a series of after images while being enhanced by chakra yet, the next second, a pair of hands suddenly tore from the ground and caught the man's legs while Kai's palm wrapped in an exceedingly sharpened coat of [Chakra Scalpel] brushed through the shinobi who lost his balance for a brief but fatal moment.
There was no blood but the muscles of his neck were cut apart cleanly alongside his throat as the man fell to the ground. Yet, Kai didn't waste a second and went ahead to grab the man's head with a brutal expression and pulled the man's head apart from his body!
He felt the suicidal seal on the man's masked head activate and threw it in Mikoto's direction who promptly fell back with the head exploding in front of her opponent.
'Body secured and...' Kai took out a scroll before placing it on the corpse. With a plume of smoke, the corpse was stored into the seal and he instantly felt every other alive enemy looking in his direction with unbridled hostility, making him smirk.
Nobody would have thought that the [Chakra Scalpel] technique that required a 100... nay 200 of the user's focus could be used so masterfully in a battle. Yet, that's what happened. Kai's opponent was not prepared for such a technique and paid the price. Of course, part of the reason why the man fell was the earth clone Kai released and had it dug underground the moment Tsunade summoned her contract.
Kai wasn't about to stop now, however. He always planned to use legally lethal skills like the Scalpel technique but he always had a Hizashi with him in the war that was just as efficient.
He only glanced at Mikoto and rushed towards her to provide backup.
The opponent instantly formed hand seals, no longer trying to even come into close combat with an Uchiha and a Kai at the same time since a tiny mistake may cost him an organ.
Unlike the man before, this Shinobi was cautious of Kai's tactic and stopped forming hand seals with the previous clone once again emerging from the ground. Snorting slightly, the shinobi jumped up while throwing a volley of Kunai that stabbed into his clone yet before Mikoto tried to take advantage of the opponent mid-air, she was stopped by his hand seal as—
Booom*
Even the clone exploded while using all its chakra as fuel!
Explosive seals were part of Kai's methods and he loved them too much to drop them. Flashbangs and others had a slightly more complicated seal while gas bombs needed time and materials to form. So, regular explosions rocked for him!
"Ugh!" The heavy explosion only elicited a soft grunt from the man while Kai and Mikoto didn't even waste their time using a Genjutsu as their opponent constantly flared his chakra. Genjutsu's true value is in catching an opponent off guard with his chakra control weakened or simply depleted enough to not shake off the enemy's control.
The figure suddenly formed simple hand seals this time before throwing a shuriken at them. The shuriken itself was cloned almost dozens of times as mist began to bubble out of Kai while Mikoto formed a single hand seal of the technique she was most used to and blew a large torching ball of flames from her mouth that served to disperse the clones shurikens and even melt the real one under its scorching temperature.
Yet, the mist overcame the duo. The enemy had taken the initiative to put distance between themselves. Making it easier for him to view them only did their enemies a favor since the man was clearly skilled enough to catch on to Kai's strength.
While other newbie shinobis would have been hard-pressed against such a situation, even Mikoto knew she had to use something that the opponents weren't aware of and the mist provided her with the perfect opportunity for it. Kai saw the Sharingan user form a familiar sign and realized that the cheeky minx had copied something essential despite being refused by Tsunade to teach them at the moment.
"Meanwhile, you use... that," Mikoto winked as Kai smirked and formed a seal before being covered in a plume of smoke under the mist.
Their opponent frowned from a distance. Until now, Kai realized that the man hadn't shown any damning specific Jutsu but his chakra reserves were a bit higher than Kai's opponent from before, and his caution even higher. Yet Kai wouldn't put it past that his enemy had a skill up his sleeve ready to catch the two off guard. Anyway, the best way to take care of a troublesome opponent was to deal with them before they can even reveal their trump cards. That's why Kai quickly used his own hidden skills to kill the second shinobi.
Two figures shot out of the mist while the enemy was also aware of the opponent rushing in his direction with an even greater speed underground. Mikoto's Sharingan locked on the man as a basic illusion failed to trap him with his constantly flaring chakra while Kai threw out three Senbons. Yet, the opponent retreated again. Stronger or not, the jonin in front of them was surely devious as Kai's earth clone grabbed air only before getting undone and crumbling apart.
'Earth Release: Mudwall.'
The shinobi created further obstacles to sap away at Kai's and Mikoto's momentum but the duo simultaneously threw a volley of Kunais that the man evaded and continued to retreat. He simply had to play it safe and let his teammates take care of the Senju... or retreat with the report on the enemy's skill for a better threat evaluation next time.
Ssss*
A sharp hiss filled his senses before a giant white snake rushed out of the bushed to coil around the man but disappeared midair as he grew even more alert about the enemy's genjutsu skills.
The duo followed the man closely only because he let them. If he retreats too far away, Kai and Mikoto may rush to Tsunade's side and assist her which wasn't ideal.
'Water Release: Crashing Wave!' The man slammed his palm on the ground with a high tide of water materializing around him and crashing into the duo chunin. Yet, they... continued to rush into the wave.
'Did they—' Before he could think, Mikoto and Kai threw almost a hundred exploding senbon needles into the crashing wave.
Boom*
Boom*
Boom*
Air whipped about as he felt 'Kai' disappear in a puff of smoke.
'A shadow clone... how did he...?' The enemy grew alert and looked around cautiously before jumping on a branch to have a higher view.
"You won't find him. It's your fault really. You're the one who pulled away from the main battle." Mikoto smirked as the enemy's eyes widened momentarily but before he could move, Mikoto threw four more kunais at the man.
Thck*
Thck*
Thck*
The man repelled the volley but the last Kunai suddenly transformed into Mikoto who threw a gas bomb in front of the enemy the next second. Before he could retreat this time, the Mikoto who was still on the ground grinned viciously while the Mikoto in front of the man kicked at him, making him raise his arm to block yet the next second, her foot was covered in a sharp layer of chakra that tore the man's wrists down to the last nerves. That moment of pain was all it took for this Mikoto to raise her body over the man's arms and kick against his temples as the sharp knife of a chakra tore the man's brain in the most unholy half.
Thud*
The opponent fell down while Mikoto reverted into Kai with a puff of smoke.
Indeed, Mikoto had copied shadow clones from Tsunade just for shit and giggles to lord over Kai since he wanted to learn it. Who knew it would be useful...
"Let's go," Kai chimed while sealing the corpse.
As he appeared next to Mikoto, she glared at him while deactivating her Sharingan, "Did you have to almost mess up the plan by..." she flushed a bit and hissed, "By shifting the size of my body? What if the enemy had found out?"
"Oh, come on. Don't be jealous. I look forward to you growing that much... I mean, Tsunade Sensei will always remain superior but I guess that's the kind of growth you have with the God of Shinobi as a grandpa," Kai giggled as if he hadn't murdered two men with a technique meant to save a life.
"I'm not jealous!" Mikoto growled.
--
Tsunade pounced on the Aburame member the moment Kai sealed the first corpse. She had been keeping her distance from the bugs because it was highly troublesome yet this distance itself would have allowed the Aburame to attack Kai. Even she hadn't expected him to use Chakra Scalpel of all the techniques to achieve such a result. Even she herself did not have the laser focus needed to use that technique in a battle despite her chakra control because the jutsu's technicality lay in letting the chakra permeate through the skin and then cut.
But even if rushing toward the buzzing insects, Tsunade did not intend to face them as Katsuyu, her summon, poured another wave of acid on the bugs. Similar to Inuzuka Clan which raised canines, the Aburame clan raised insects of special kinds that had various functions from absorbing chakra to poisoning the enemy and tailing a specific individual. While the acid took care of many insects, Tsunade formed a hand seal and Katsuyu suddenly dispersed into multiple tiny slugs that were quicker than before and intercepted the wave of insects.
By this time, another shinobi had pulled back and unfurled a scroll before quickly waving a brush over the paper.
'That's the drawing user, huh...' Tsunade narrowed her eyes as white and black giants emerged from the scroll. Strength-type painted creations, she knew that it a glance.
She scowled and suddenly moved away right in the path of one of the giant's fists to avoid the dark tendril stretching from the shadow of the last shinobi towards her. Her ill-prepared punch, however, easily deflected the giant fist yet she was shocked.
A Nara, Aburame, and Super Beast Imitation User that could draw summons with strength impressive enough to bare her casual punches. This was impressive because these summons were only ink given form! And it used quite a small amount of chakra, too.
The Aburame and Nara, however, were more troublesome as she shot towards the loon artist with her amber pupils lit in vicious determination.
Grrr*
The second giant barred her way yet she swept and kicked down on the ground with her heels with the shadow tendril following behind when—
Crack*
Thud*
Thud*
Deep, cracks the width of an adult arm spread out as large bits of earth tore out including the earth clone of the Aburame that crumbled into dust as Tsunade suddenly shot back before kicking the large 'debris' at the Nara-nin whose eyes widened momentarily.
Sst*
What he should have looked out for, however, was the tiny slugs devouring aburame insects at a healthy pace as a thin stream of acid made the man grunt. Not enough to stop paying attention to the large boulder as he formed a hand seal and his own shadow turned into dark spikes that tore into the boulder and stopped it—
But just enough to lose focus from his teammates and the blonde devil in front of her as she used the diversion created by Kai's hazy mist at this second and slammed her palms on the boulder, causing it to suddenly slam on the ground and crush the Nara user underneath with the spikes disappearing finally.
Her gaze fell on the loon artist the next second as her apprentices rushed after the other opponent.
But the result was clear. The enemy would have had a strong team to face her, maybe strong enough to make it extremely troublesome had they gotten the entire set of skills on her apprentices but they lacked severe data.
Well, too bad for them, she didn't have a need for complete bodies now that Kai had stored the one and the quickest way to go through them... was to go THROUGH them.
--
"Heh," Kai suddenly chuckled as Team Tsunade regained their bearings and moved with a gloomy atmosphere.
"What?" Mikoto looked at him as he remarked, " I just thought about it... didn't we get ANBUshed?"
While Mikoto frowned for a second, his words elicited a burst of loud belly laughter from Tsunade who just felt refreshed by his words.
"Hah~ That's a good one, really. I'll use it if we get ANBUshed again."
Kai snickered at her words. The term ANBUsh simply rolled of their tongue.

A/N: Alright... I can sense the anger from afar from MANY who reads this chap. The only thing I'll say is that Konoha was so deeply rotten for a reason and it wasn't just Hiruzen giving others leeway. Again... would have been way easier to just do the same as everyone else but hey... I've written what I have and I just stand behind it, the same as Uzumaki 'Slave' Tattoo from back then.
[Earned 25 SP.]
Kai didn't give a fuck about Tsunade's stormy expression, the two corpses placed on the Hokage's table with stacks of paperwork strewn on the floor, Mikoto's embarrassed expression or the Hokage's dazed expression as he read through the scroll while Kai sensed the man's honest surprise as easy as daylight. He just stood there silently, enjoying his gains and making plans for the next grind.
'Oh, and here comes the bundle of bandaged fucking hypocrisy...' Kai rolled his eyes internally as a Danzo entered the office.
"Danzo..." Yet, before Hiruzen could even begin, Tsunade's hand smacked the table, crashing it into two halves as her furious gaze pinned her Sensei on his seat, "I demanded a War Council. Anything that needs to be discussed will be done there or are you going to fuck with the etiquettes just because Biwako-san won't give you a head and this little bandaged bitch would?"
Danzo's and Hiruzen's eyes widened not because of her anger but because of the sheer recklessness that Tsunade displayed at the moment with her fists popping terrifying veins that revealed she meant business. Danzo's gaze briefly flickered as he looked at the two corpses now on the floor because of the table getting destroyed in half while Kai felt the man's terror, anger, frustration, and fear all at once.
'Woah... Tsunade was right. He really is a bandaged bitch, huh?'
Kai didn't need to know more to conclude that Danzo had something to do with this attack... but Tsunade's backing was proving of use already. He couldn't have called Hiruzen unfaithful to his wife for a, quoting Tsunade, an eager head-giving bitch. Oh, well, when it comes to politics, things are rarely simple and that's why Kai tends to keep away from the poison to his grind but they were in the center this time around.
Besides, today's ANBUsh already proved that he needed strength derived from the grind more than the political one so his path was quite determined already.
--
The War Council was in for a surprise.
Seven Shinobi of Konoha targeting the Senju Interim Matriarch, the Senju/Uzumaki Princesses' Guardian, and the Uchiha Princess all at once stunned the crowd of clan heads and made one particular leader seethe in a silent and cold rage.
Yata had been stressed because of the war and yet, before his daughter even returned to the clan, he had to enter the council to find THIS out. On everyone's table was Tsunade's, Kai's, and Mikoto's account not of the mission but about the attack they faced that made the Aburame, Nara, Yamanaka, and Gekko Clan head somewhat ashen.
Especially Shikudo Nara who easily inferred that someone had access to the personal records of Team Tsunade which narrowed down the scope of perpetrators to the Elders, himself as the Jonin Commander, and the Hokage. And this understanding was being slowly interpreted by everyone in the council.
"Well?" Tsunade felt she had given them enough time after pulling a War Council based on her situation. Attacking a fellow village member, much less a clan head during a war with evidence in the form of two corpses no less was enough for Tsunade to bring such actions down without caring an ounce about her Sensei. It was BECAUSE her Sensei was the Hokage she was so miffed.
The hints were beginning to turn clearer by the second, too.
The Senju and Uzumaki being targeted.
Her records, no less, being known the conspirator.
The news of Mito's death getting spread out, which, she only knew after returning to the village.
Tsunade knew her situation was unique because of how many things connected to her just by the virtue of her origin and there was only one individual who controlled the damn loons with suicidal seals that Kai easily countered by destroying or separating the brain itself. Sure, this knowledge will be used to streamline the suicide seals further but now wasn't the time for inventions.
Her words began the council with exhausted sighs leaking from many clan heads as the Elders had deep frowns themselves.
"This is a complicated situation..." Hiruzen began, "We've all read your reports, Tsunade. Let us hear from Elder Danzo Shimura."
Multiple, invasive gazes fell on the man who calmly stood up and walked to the central location in the space between the U-shaped desk.
"These men are from Root indeed. As many of you are already aware, Root was established after the Second Hokage's—"
"Did anyone ask you to open the history textbook? Your organization just attacked Team Tsunade. You better have a good reason for it." Tsunade interjected coldly.
"Tsunade, at least don't—" Hiruzen began but even he was cut off.
"Senju Tsunade is correct. Answers are more worthwhile than long passages that reveal nothing of note. You aren't here to waste everyone's time, right, Elder Shimura? You must need more time to grieve the death of your son so it's better to be on point." Yata narrowed his eyes as the council fell into a deafening silence while even the Hokage himself couldn't refute the same points made by the leaders of the founding clans and he looked at Danzo stoically.
"I see," Danzo replied quietly and spoke up, "The Seven Shinobi, of which one was from the branch family of Aburame Clan, Nara Clan, Yamanaka Clan, and Gekko Clan, alongside three orphans raised in Root itself, betrayed the organization and left Root with appropriate preparations to keep their defection hidden.
Further investigation is, of course, required to ascertain which outside forces have infiltrated the village to such an extent."
"Spies, is that your answer?" Hiruzen frowned.
"Naturally," Danzo replied with cold conviction, "The Root is raised to be the most loyal. Aside from the intervention of a third party, they can never shift their loyalties."
Everyone frowned as the situation became more complicated. Danzo happened to be one of the War Heroes of Konoha from the 1st Shinobi World War. This was one of the many reasons why he was even allowed to operate Root. Yet now... other clan heads, especially younger ones, couldn't easily question the man because he had proven his loyalty to the village.
But consequences be damned. Tsunade wasn't the kind to let bygones be bygones or she wouldn't have broken Jiraiya and Dan for their actions.
"And what about our classified information being released?"
Tsunade remarked coldly. Even though she couldn't be sure now if it was a third party or not but there was still this piece that connected the situation to the elders, Hokage, and the Nara Commander.
Danzo turned to look at her and frowned, "I'm still not aware of how the information is leaked. You must give me time to investigate."
Yet Tsunade smiled and pressed, "Elder Shimura, do tell the council what's the punishment for failing an S-ranked mission during a war."
Danzo narrowed his eyes and remarked coldly, "Mostly Death."
"Indeed. That's because of a concept known as accountability. The Shinobi leading the mission are held accountable for the failure of the mission. Surely you're not thinking of just stating your ignorance and stepping back, right? You either lead right or you step down. The village doesn't need Anbu Corps that doesn't answer to the Hokage but an Elder from the Advisory Council. So, Elder Shimura, right now I present you with two options. Either step down as the leader of Root and appoint someone loyal to the village after he is examined by the Hokage for any loyalty seal or leave the Root under the Hokage's care.
Such ill-mannered leadership will not be tolerated and is not expected from someone of your caliber. I advise the council that Elder Danzo should stick to Advising the Hokage and not participate in the execution of said suggestions."
Fine... maybe she did reluctantly pick up the policy guidance of Konoha and went through with it in her idle time... but it turned out beneficial, right? She can always read medical books later.
Nobody expected such a turn of events as Danzo still stared at Tsunade.
When did SHE become so... well, ruthless?
But her words were reasonable. The loss of seven jonin Anbu with four of them belonging to the major clans was nothing short of an S-ranked failure. And Danzo... DID admit his ignorance to the matter which meant that as the leader of an organization meant for intelligence gathering... was inept for the role itself.
Danzo was stuck at this moment. But he looked thoughtful for a moment and sighed, "Indeed... it is as Matriarch of the Senju Clan claims. If I am not held accountable for the actions of the Organization I am supposed to lead then how would the council impose the same on other team leaders. I shall step down and leave the Root in the wise hands of Hokage and his discretion."
Danzo claimed before anyone could even object to it as Tsunade frowned. She felt that she had gotten her revenge but it still left a bad taste in her mouth and a pit in her gut as if she missed something. Something that Mito would have seen through at a glance but she herself couldn't.
Even Yata looked at Hiruzen for a moment who sported a deep scowl while Shikuda was already massaging his head.
With nothing else being the subject for the council, it was dispersed soon after yet Tsunade felt the shift in mood and began to wonder... what the hell actually happened.
--
"Danzo, you didn't have to—" Hiruzen began with a sigh but Danzo already noticed the effect of his action. Ordinarily, Danzo would have to request a meeting yet here he was, asked by Hiruzen to come instead.
"It's alright. She's your disciple, right? And she raised an interesting topic of accountability. Root will be transferred over to Anbu once again."
Danzo kept it plain and simple before leaving but he couldn't help but feel joyful instead.
'Ah, Hiruzen, you'll see my way in time. Root can be raised again, in time. But by just accepting Tsunade's words, I can now fill Anbu with enough of my seeds. Not only that, she unknowingly challenged your authority. Hehe, even you might not know this now but similar to how a broken pearl necklace cannot be restored to its original shape, a relationship once strained can never recover, too.
Yata Uchiha is a man who is supporting the Senju... it'll take time. But two arrogant fools challenging the third one will never bode well for the village.
Accountability, huh... I'll surely remember that... but to think both Kai and Mikoto would have strength surpassing their records... well, I need to be more low-key for the time being," Danzo narrowed his eye coldly.

"Hngh..." Kai groaned whilst simultaneously snoring before his sleep was uneventfully interrupted by something heavy suffocating him. His eyes snapped open as he moved the duffel bag from his face and sat up with a scowl. The once verdant training ground was now littered with his team. Oh, he loved the grind but he also enjoyed the consequential sleep that filled his heart with satisfaction.
"What?" He groaned as the already round face of the walking tomato turned even rounder with that huge pout of hers as she chided, "Don't 'what' me, Dattebane! We have to train so that I control that monster quickly and get to go to the missions with you all!"
Kai blinked. It has been three days since their return and aside from the initial political drama, nothing else really happened. Even Kushina had grown normal... relatively, after the second day but her words right now made his eyes shine.
"That's the spirit! Come on! We'll spar now!"
Kushina hurriedly stepped back and smirked, "I meant, my training is different. I can only teach you if I have learned those skills myself. My Guardian must learn better Fuinjutsu!" She declared and then rubbed the back of her head, "But till then, don't you have other skills to train?"
Kai smirked at the thought of progress. His new skills demanded a high grind but that was alright. He had already completed—
[Chakra Threads (10/10): Shape the chakra into threads that can stick and control objects from a distance. Current Consumption: 5~???]
And had actually stolen a technique right under the noses of the Anbu.
[Secret Sword— Moonlight (4/20): A sword skill that utilizes superior skill and light misdirection to confuse opponents by leaving a series of after images.
Next Level: Practice the technique 45/150 times or 5 SP.]
It was a C-rank Kenjustu that he gained by mimicking the movement of his enemy. While Ninjutsu cannot be copied just by the movement because of the internal chakra molding, at least, not without a Sharingan, physical skills could. At least... this is what he discovered just because he wanted to try it. And this also made him remember another skill he had seen and was interested in.
It was during the Team Tsunade, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru bet that Minato showed the strange Taijutsu skill. Hey, it might be useless but the grind WILL get him more SP.
'Anyway... one at a time.'
Kai narrowed his eyes. The C-ranked Kenjutsu did not have any effect on his physique so it was back to the traditional grind!
Still... he wouldn't mind a B-rank Taijutsu or Genjutsu. But he had a lot going on...
But he was also greedy as heck.
"Hey... what's in this bag?" Kai looked down at the bag he just shoved aside and found...
'Oh... my god... no, the legend speaks about some Rikudo, right? Oh, my Rikudo!'
Kai hurriedly zipped up the duffel bag with a sick expression as Kushina chimed with a rosy blush on her cheeks but Kai saw Mikoto's and Tsunade's devilish smirk... they knew what was really up.
"I mean... you're always trying to help... and you're so much younger than me. And I have... been acting like a child for a few days, too..." Kushina played with a tress of her red hair while averting her violet gaze, "I- I just wanted to do something nice dattebane!"
'Then teach me the ultimate secrets of Fuinjutsu, you murderous hobo,' Kai rolled his eyes. He had looked into the bag and Kushina inquired with a stutter, "W-won't you try it?"
"Yeah, I'll add it to my poison resistance regime," Kai scoffed. His words made Kushina confused, "But why to add cookies to that?"
Kai looked at her and nodded his head slowly, "Well... let's see. Those cookies are shaped into balls. They are dark green in color. They smell worse than shit when I eat Super Black Chili Fried Rice, do I need to keep going?"
Kushina deadpanned before a vein popped over her temple and her long red hair began to float with the sheer anger and subsequent chakra she released as she stared at Kai with a hint of cold fury.
"What did you say?"
"I mean, we're both kids and I don't mind helping out whenever possible but damn, even an absolutely useless cook would only burn the cookies. You're almost a devil-like that, huh. Don't even cook eggs for me. Who knows which poor bastard you've torn the nutsack off of," Kai hummed thoughtfully as Kushina raged.
"Damn you! And I was worried what you would think about it!" She growled.
"Worried?" Kai giggled, "You should be proud. That's some real poison there with basic condiments. Sensei, you all should eat it slowly to get resistant to its effects!"
Mikoto's and Tsunade's grins froze as Kushina shot at him with a furious expression. Of course, this was the only time Kai actually felt mocking joy from within the furious Kushina. It was clear that his words made the day of a certain residence fox.
--
It was already the eleventh month of the year and it has been a few months since their return. Many things had changed but these changes weren't conveyed to the team directly instead, they found interesting tidbits from their Sensei and Mikoto's father.
First of all, Tsunade was entering into more and more heated arguments with her Sensei over the smallest of things which did wonders to stoke her temper. It wasn't about anything as drastic as being ambush— nay, ANBUshed but was related to more menial things that the Third Hokage stopped giving Tsunade leniency over.
Another thing that happened during this period was the death of Elder Koharu and Homura's direct descendants on the Suna war front which made them remove their own grandchildren from Team Jiraiya for an indefinite period. Now that was a saucy controversy even Hiruzen had a headache over. But Jiraiya's stance on not minding this at all made it far easier for the Hokage to tackle the situation than he should have.
But the sheer bias revealed in this event rubbed many clan heads, especially those in war with THEIR children, the wrong way.
Aside from all this, Uchiha and the Senju clan were making their name more prosperous, especially the Uchiha. Everyone knew about Senjus and they were one of the major forces in the Suna War Front to repel the invading army once the Jinchuriki was used in a surprise attack.
Uchiha, on the other hand, sent assassins into the Land of Earth and Lightning under the Hokage's order and disrupted the pace of the two village's preparations and recuperation although the Land of Lightning had yet to enter the fray with a major battle.
But this also meant that aside from the civilian shinobi, Senju and the Uchiha had to suffer major casualties, especially in the rank of young chunins but whoever remained was the cream of the reaping crop.
Meanwhile, Team Tsunade had a lot going on. While many 'talented' teams and jonin Senseis that were allowed to train the next generation used the time to better themselves, the popular Team Tsunade was on the move constantly.
Repairing fences? Where's them nails at.
Painting houses? Stroke the brush as you would stroke a lover.
Chasing wayward cats? They loved pussy... cats.
Delivering mails? They had other services to offer, too!
Well... not 'they' but him. The rest of the Team Tsunade trained while tagging along in his path of unlimited quest grinding. Not only D-rank missions though. Wild animals, bandits, shady merchants, the justice in Kai's heart bloomed as he took care of it all!
[Earned 131 SP.]
But this wasn't all. The grind never stopped for Kai in skills, too! Although... some skills were still troublesome.
[Secret Sword— Moonlight (20/20): A sword skill that utilizes superior skill and light misdirection to confuse opponents by leaving a series of after images.]

The advanced clones were what most Jonins used as it was far more versatile. It also replaced the skills of regular clones. Although there wasn't a skill for the regular clones, it did not imply he could not form the basic version of it.
The best part of being ANBUshed before was that now Kai had no inhibitions. Instead of wasting SP by buying these techniques readily available to most, Kai entered the archives and used the money and mission contributions he had saved until now the make exchanges. What about showing too much and attracting a bad crowd?
Didn't he already do that? And now whoever was after him knew Kai could fuck up a careless Jonin so either the perpetrator will have to send an even more impressive force or appear himself, both of which happened to be troublesome after losing the initiative of surprise.
Still, the past two and a half months had been nothing but juicy for Kai!

'Ah... Chakra Reserves, when will you grow. Damn, my only weakness, this cute childish body...'
"Good work, Kai-kun," Hiruzen smiled at the boy. While it was true that he and Tsunade had grown to bicker more than usual, the Hokage's eyes would light up at the sight of Kai.
Being this young, sensible, obedient, and most of all, serving the village even when staying after the war by helping civilians through the D-Rank mission made him quite rightly a star.
"Thank you, Hokage-sama. Is there any other mission?" Kai beamed. Just give it to him, that juicy booty of SP!
Kushina and Mikoto rolled their eyes while Tsunade remained silent the entire time with a stoic expression.
The report of their mission was soon settled and they left the Hokage building. Tsunade didn't stay with them long, saying she had her own tasks at the hospital with many poisoned shinobi returning from the Suna War Front constantly.
Nono, herself, was now usually in hospital if not helping out Tsunade in the compound since Tsunade reasoned her other apprentice needed her guidance, too. The Hospital also had its own large halls where she could train Nono in simpler things, too.
"So? What are we going to do today? I'm already done with my water transformation training."
"Only now?" Mikoto smirked, having long mastered the basic transformation of fire nature chakra as Kushina pouted and scoffed, "Oh, please, ever since I became the Jinchuriki, it's been harder to keep my chakra under control. That's why I don't easily use Mystical Palm Technique, too."
"Ah, right," Mikoto nodded with a wry smile as Kai gave them a sidelong glance. Oh, he was content with what he had but he was also aware he had nothing 'special' going on like the others of his team. The only reason he could keep up with them in everything but chakra reserves was because of his trait and his crazy infatuation with the grind!
"Hey! Freak!"
"Yeah," Kai looked sideways at one of the older boys snickering as they felt stumped. Ah, it's the dumb squad.
"Not you! The red-headed freak next to you! They're saying she's a monster!" The boy announced as many adults frowned while Kai tilted his head sideways and looked at an equally confused Kushina.
"Well... if I'm not a monster... I'll die, so it's fine?" She inquired hesitantly as she was speaking the truth. She had to become a monster to tame one within herself.
"Hmm, tch, tch, I can smell their burning envy from here," Mikoto smirked coldly, "I can also smell their diapers."
"Why would you smell that?" Now it was Kai's turn to look at Mikoto weirdly who blushed, "I meant!"
"Hey! You sons of beta cunts are bullying Kushina again?" A loud, distant growl echoed as Kai smiled proudly at the young pup riding her slightly larger Ninken who barked loudly, making the three boys freeze up for a second before they ran away.
"Aw... and I didn't get to punch them. My day is ruined..." Kushina pouted as Tsume huffed, "There, I protected the pack!"
The girl wore her forehead protector around her neck as if a collar and climbed down from Kuromaru, "I was looking for you three. Uh, Minato asked me to look for you and tell you that he is looking for you."
She smiled at Kai who raised a brow in return and looked a little thoughtful. He had pretty much stopped all contact with Minato for some time now due to the sheer lack of time to pursue any other relationship than he already had. It was just a happy coincidence that he only knew girls... and one brooding Hyuga with a love for talking about fate whenever possible.
Damn, white-eyed perverts!
'Hmm... this also reminds me that I have to grind the Taijutsu skill Minato showed back then... maybe I should meet up with him once and see if I can stea— learn something else...'
"Right now?" Kai inquired.
"Uh..." Tsume scratched the back of her head before jumping on Kuromaru, making the poor boy yelp as she grinned, "Wait a minute! I'll ask him and come back!"
And she ran away.
"Or you could have just led Kai-kun there..." Mikoto wondered out loud.
"She is so dumb!" The redheaded dumb girl of the Team Tsunade really shouldn't have such thoughts about others.
"At least she's cute when stupid," Kai shrugged, expecting greatness from his pup since she trained crazily, too. She was one of them. The believer of grind...

"Hoh~ Nono-chan, you're growing more and more beautiful. You'd soon compete with Tsunade, huh," Jiraiya chuckled as Nono smiled while setting another three vats of wine for her master and her friends before adjusting her glasses, "It's nothing much, Jiraiya-san. Besides, I wish I could say the same about you but I've seen Minato-kun... he is cuter than you."
Orochimaru stifled his chuckle as Jiraiya's expression fell. Tsunade rarely invited the rest of her teammates into the clan compound itself so Jiraiya was intent on raiding her collection of alcohol if not her closet!
"Ah, sharp as ever, girl. It's a shame you became Tsunade's secretary or the village could benefit greatly from such a Kunoichi, hehe, especially me after hmm... 7 years." The man ascertained and spoke proudly, "And I would have shown you why the village hails me as the most talented shinobi!"
Nono blinked. Jiraiya and dirty remarks came hand-in-hand so that didn't bother the bespectacled, gentle-looking Genjutsu mistress but she couldn't help but speak up, "I thought Kai-kun is the most talented shinobi... and then comes Minato? That's what Tsunade-sama told me."
"Hey, no way—" Jiraiya was stumped before he gasped while Orochimaru interjected, "Right, thank you for the wine, Nono."
"Of course," the girl chortled and left with a happy strut as Jiraiya groaned with a scowl, "World's unfair... you'll both see how well my novel is received because of the joy it would bring to others!"
Orochimaru smirked and remarked, "Join the club. Besides, you of all have no reason to complain about the unfairness of the world."
"Now, now," knowing what Orochimaru was getting at, Tsunade snickered, "Grass is always greener on the other side. Hah~ and here I'm jealous of the two of you. Jiraiya, you only have to train one kid while Orochimaru, you only have one talented shinobi, really, Nawaki. And here I am," she boasted with her nose stuck up, "Having to teach not one but THREE talents. Ah, and Kai won't let the team rest for even a day. So many missions," she drawled.
Jiraiya scoffed, "And you think others haven't noticed? While you and Sensei have been at it for months now, for whatever reason—"
"Whatever reason?" Tsunade scoffed, "We were ANBUshed and I still haven't gotten a concrete reason as Sensei just shoved everything under the rug!"
Tsunade has tried to use the other evidence, such as the piece of flesh from the first pursuer of theirs to try and find who was actually behind it since this third party also made things dubious but until now, no concrete evidence aside from Root truly have been infiltrated by another institution was known.
Orochimaru sighed softly. He no longer held trust for the Third Hokage thanks to one particular bandaged package and could see clearly that Tsunade was frustrated not because of the attack but the sense of betrayal she felt clashing with her loyalty to their Sensei.
"And that's what I'm getting at," Jiraiya shrugged, "Well... Sensei may have asked me to—"
He suddenly stiffened as Orochimaru and Tsunade realized what he was about to say. But spending far more time with Tsunade, the man with the snake-like features picked his cup and pulled a little back from the table as Tsunade inquired coldly, "Did he ask you to teach my apprentices something before they or I approached you ourselves?"
Jiraiya took a deep breath before scoffing, "Whaaat? Nooo, nothing like that..."
Tsunade only seemed unamused but soon she smirked and leaned on the table, letting her shoulder slouch slightly and she then felt her breasts easily rest on the table. A cocky smirk developed on her lips as Orochimaru sighed inwardly while Jiraiya's nostrils flared as his gaze zeroed down on the wonderful weapons that would bring peace to the world.
"Ehe~" A slurred and drunken giggle escaped the man's lips unbefitting his position as one of the few Elite Jonins of the village as Tsunade purred, "Come on, Jiraiya. You know I only get irritated because of clan stuff interrupting with me gambling away all the Senju Heritage. Help me out here, be honest with me for once."
While she smirked, the sincere plea made Jiraiya's gaze recover a flash of complicated emotion while Orochimaru looked momentarily sullen.
"Well... fine, sigh. Sensei did ask me to try and teach Kai-kun some of my mojo... both kinds. A shinobi needs to be versatile and the previous sex-ed only traumatized many that graduated from the Academy but hey, at least, they focus on training than boobs. That's a win...
Sarutobi Sensei wanted to see how well and quickly he learned my stuff. And then, I think, he was planning to do the same with Orochimaru. We both got capable apprentices, no doubt about that. Your brother is a full-blown chunin with everything but the official promotion while Minato... is a freak in fuinjutsu because he just keeps on expanding on his learning base.
But..."
Jiraiya sipped his wine and pouted, "Sensei thinks we are still wasting Kai's talents. You know he has nothing special going on... but he's reported to have mastered a few elemental jutsu. Think what he can achieve with practicing their respective nature transformation."
Tsunade scoffed internally. Nothing special? The boy had an affinity with all nature chakra. He HAS mastered three of the nature transformation practice already! He's got explosive Uzumaki tendencies of imprinting things with fuinjutsu and has enough Genjutsu mastery to tackle Mikoto with a two-tomoe Sharingan.
'Nothing special...' she sneered.
"Sensei's also afraid of overworking the boy. So he wants to start it easy. He needs to growl enough to have his other chakra growth spurts but that's about it."
"A kage candidate, huh..." Orochimaru smirked, "Isn't that a little too early?"
"At any given time, there are always a few Kage candidates. For instance, in our generation, it's us three. Even now, Sakumo Hatake and Yata Uchiha are Kage candidates, too," Tsunade pulled back as Jiraiya groaned reluctantly while Orochimaru nodded.
"Hmm, so, if their training goes as intended, the next candidates after us would be Fugaku Uchiha, Kai, and Minato..." Jiraiya muttered.
"And to think I have an apprentice who keeps claiming he'd be the next Hokage," Orochimaru drawled.
"Join the club," Tsunade smirked, "I have a redheaded potato doing the same. It's kind of cute, isn't it?"
"Yes," Orochimaru smiled.
"Still..." Tsunade looked at her white-haired teammate, "What did Sensei precisely want you to teach him?"
"Not that it matters at the moment since I won't actually get into it but I was hoping he and Minato would get some crazy seals done and then maybe try and develop something that Minato is interested in. It's just basic Shape Transformation at this point that Minato chanced upon. I mean, they don't have the reserves for anything crazy but they can practice Shape Transformation with it just fine. He can practice Nature Transformation later."
Tsunade nodded and sighed. At this point, she wasn't averse to teaching Kai 'better things', well, the things that couldn't be found in the archive but his chakra was too shallow to even start on many things including a simple shadow clone Jutsu that would drain a lot out of him much less her own special jutsu.
--
Kai looked at the blonde youth who had a blank expression. To not give any reason for letting a weird gossip or rumor circulate amongst other six-year-old fanbase of his, Kai agreed to meet Minato in Jiraiya's Training Ground after the break of dawn the next day.
Kai's hand was drenched with stream liquid as the rubber had been popped while a few splashes also fell on Minato's face who hadn't moved far away. They both looked silently at the wonder Kai had created. And boy it was intense!
"Uh..." Minato slowly came to be and plopped down on the ground, "Kai-kun, I sometimes forget that you're crazier than I am..."
"Well," Kai blinked. It was simple really. What Minato was practicing was the basics of Shape Transformation that he was at the cusp of mastering but while Kai started from [Chakra Thread, Minato began by shaping the chakra reminiscent of a ball using a water balloon as a crutch. After all, in time, even without a balloon, Minato should be able to form a gentle chakra construct made of rotating chakra alone the size of a ball.
Kai sat down, too, and inquired curiously, finally remembering why he was interested in the youth in front of him, too.
'Chakra reserve about 40000... finally, some fucking decent normalcy,' Kai grinned, "What brought this training on in the first place?"
Minato looked a little out of it with a basket filled with water balloons placed next to him as he groaned, "It's the Ichibi... wait, you do know about Jinchuriki, right? Sensei told me about Kushina..."
"Oh, yeah, I do. Massive monsters with world-ending powers that ironically lost to the strongest of shinobi and then got sealed. First, into items, then later, into humans," Kai nodded, "Why the One-Tailed beast, though?"
"Did you hear about the Jinchuriki of Ichibi using a disastrous jutsu that destroyed a fifth of our war fortification?" Minato questioned in return.
"Yeah, Tsunade Sensei told me about it once we returned from our mission. It was a Jutsu called..."
"Tailed Beast Bomb," Minato muttered with a somber expression as he added, "So... that got me to thinking. The only difference between Tailed Beasts and humans is size, chakra reserves, physical features, and some special nature transformation... but we have something in common. Chakra. If the tailed beasts can use chakra to form a Tailed Beast Bomb... can't a shinobi replicate something similar?"
"And... you have studied Tailed Beast Bombs... how?" Kai questioned, making Minato grin, "Oh, Sensei has such information to share. He usually teaches me the least amount possible and leaves me to my devices but the good thing is, he isn't quick to refute my requests."
Minato then saw Kai suddenly flopping on his back and spreading his arms wide open as he looked at the sky.
"What are you doing?"
"That's how I think," Kai shrugged and mumbled, "So the main idea is to replicate the destructiveness with meager chakra... relatively, huh? Do you know how an actual Tailed Beast Bomb is formed?"
"No," Minato shook his head, "The information I have is about various instances this technique was used by a Jinchuriki and the level of destruction it causes. Again, the idea isn't to form a Tailed Beast Bomb, but a pure chakra attack that is as solid as an elemental jutsu."
"Wait," Kai sat up, "An elemental jutsu has two basic foundations. Nature Transformation and Shape Transformation. When a Shinobi masters them both, they can shift and modify various jutsus to their own needs. What if a Tailed Beast Bomb, or the replica you're creating, has a nature transformation, too? Wouldn't it just be as simple as a Fireball Jutsu?"
His words stumped Minato and both of them fell silent in their thoughts.
"Wait... no, this is different," Minato's eyes gleamed, "What I want to form is a solid construct of chakra first, like a Tailed Beast Bomb. It has substance. A Fireball Jutsu is molding chakra into a fire nature and THEN shaping it. This time, the Shaping of chakra comes first."
Kai nodded eagerly, "Yeah, so if you want a more stabilized chakra technique it must have a constant flow! That's what chakra is, it keeps flowing. Even though shapes can restrict the flow... nobody says that the chakra itself cannot flow within the construct!"
After all, Chakra Thread was similar, too. It was a thin thread of chakra invisible to the naked eyes at the highest mastery BECAUSE the chakra flowing within the thread has been congealed to a level just above microscopic level. The only way to deal with such a Chakra Thread is to either predict its connections or just spam Byakugan.
"So, our main focus is to find a pattern of chakra flow that creates the most destruction!" Minato grinned before both of their eyes sparkled.
--
"Huff!"
Minato collapsed to the ground with an exhausted expression as his grey jacket was set aside while the last of the balloon was destroyed. Currently, they were still in the testing phase but... Kai sorely wished to beat himself up. This man was grind personified. After all... because of him, Kai managed to slip through a loophole and form various chakra shapes that are useless but brought him a good number of SP.
{A/N: I won't be describing these techniques... just to fill the word count. I mean, the names are good enough of an explanation and they don't do anything.}
[Chakra Spiral Ball (5/5)]
[Chakra Cube (3/3)]
[Chakra Cone (1/1)]
With each successive shape, Kai was granted more and more knowledge which meant that the resulting shape that had overlapping knowledge would provide a low level. But... 9 SP in one session wasn't bad at all. And Kai also managed to grind the [Shape Transformation] to some extent.
"Come on, you ain't done in, right?" Kai grinned as he remarked, "Now it's time for MY training."
Minato slowly sat up and stretched his arms before chuckling, "Ah, sorry. It's only right I help you with your training."
"Well... I don't really need help but I'm tired of asking which one Jiraiya would like to see since he bothers me a lot while I train."
"Sensei does?"
"Yeah," Kai took out a scroll before unsealing it as a plume of smoke revealed the contents soon enough which made Minato choke on his spit and blush fiercely as he averted his gaze from the stack of lewd magazines that just appeared.
"W-what are you doubt, Kai-kun?"
"Training my transformation technique to the level unheard by anyone. But... finding new things to transform is becoming increasingly tedious. So I usually just change the size of bust, hips, and the like. And Jiraiya does have an expertise and would also transform just for the kick of it."
Kai was covered in a large poof of smoke before 'his' voice turned mature while Minato... looked dazed before he muttered, "I have to help him train..." his gaze turning towards one of the open magazines as he certainly saw something he liked...
--
"Sigh," Hiruzen looked at Tsunade sitting across the table and sighed slightly, "Tsunade, if this is about Kai—"
"I'm here to tell you that it was the right decision," Tsunade interjected and spoke calmly, "Just because Kai is in an awkward stage where he can't learn more things from me should have already made me find someone else to instruct him for a while."
Hiruzen blinked in surprise before nodding, "Hmm, and I suppose... I shouldn't have bypassed your authority and considered you a master good enough to understand my reasoning."
But the lack of apology from both sides made it clear that their relationship was still rocky as Hiruzen cleared his throat and smiled, "Well, Jiraiya told me that Minato-kun has an inspiring idea. Want to watch them train right now?"
The Hokage took out the crystal ball that can view through almost everywhere in Konoha except for private properties and clan compounds.
Tsunade looked interested as the image began to flicker on the crystal ball as Hiruzen bit on his pipe, "I wonder what kind of techniques the two can pull off."
"N— *bzzt* Nah, when changing the bust size, keep in mind that nipples need to be a bit more tasteful—"
Tsunade's and Hiruzen's eyes widened as they saw two well-endowed women, a brunette in a bikini instructing the redhead before the brunette grinned, "Now check this out— Transformation Jutsu: Paradise!"
The next second, blood flowed out of Hiruzen's nose as the brunette turned into a familiar blonde with a pair of amber pupils and a body too sensual to ignore!
"Damn those fuckers! Geniuses, my ass!" Tsunade stood up while Hiruzen already leaned back on his chair, his head cocked up with a foolish grin as blood continued to flow from his nostrils.
"And finally, this is one of the more interesting ones. Think of it as customizing yourself. Transformation Jutsu— Future Inches of Destruction."
This time, the stunned redhead in the image hurriedly pulled back a hulking man made of pure muscle and tanned skin stood with short, well-trimmed dark hair and a pair of dark eyes. Yet... Tsunade's vision swam for a second and in the next moment, blood dripped down her nostrils before she weakly collapsed onto her chair.
"We... keep this to ourselves..." Hiruzen whispered weakly.
"Y-yeah..." Tsunade whispered with quivering lips, her eyes still trailing the figure who laughed loudly before turning into the familiar boy... but yeah, she deemed him more dangerous than even smooth-talking Dan should he turn out THAT way.

The teenage Hyuga wearing the Konoha headband on his forehead while garbed in a casual, loose greyish tunic and pants alongside wooden sandals looked at the five children in front of him with his pupil-less lavender pupils revealing a hint of annoyance as he groaned at the fact that he would be called to a public training ground this early in the morning for a test...
"Tsunade-san, was this really necessary? You could have just made it a D-ranked Mission and any Hyuga member could have helped you. Unlike the Sharingan, all our members possess Byakugan, after all." Saying this, he threw the prominent Uchiha Princess a stoic but provoking look as Mikoto scoffed and huffed... but she had no rebuttal for facts.
"Well, I know you and your father. Don't mind me saying this but between you and your wrinkled, paranoid cur of a father, I'd appreciate your feedback on my new jutsu before I decide what to do with it," a childish voice within the center of the group of children spoke as Hizashi Hyuga looked at his former Jonin Leader... a young, almost 6-year-old blonde-haired girl who was remarkably flat, unlike how Hizashi remembered her and her large, amber eyes revealed a level of insistence that even Hizashi couldn't ignore as he sat down cross-legged to give the girl the respect she deserved by matching the level of her gaze.
"I don't mind whatever you call him. The man isn't my father... he's my elder brother's father." Hizashi smiled peacefully but Kai sensed the pure hatred brewing within the man.
Tsunade, entirely a chibi at the moment, shrugged with even Kushina taller than her at the moment. Team Tsunade and Nono looked at Hizashi as he first glanced at Kai with his eyes narrowed, "Did you learn something new after we went our separate ways?"
"Dude, we live in the same village," Kai gave an exasperated sigh while making plans to try and move in a way similar to some of Hyuga's clan techniques and imitate their movement until the skill is formed. Unlike most Ninjutsu and Genjutsu... Taijutsu was just easier to replicate and he was certainly... astounded with what he had gotten from Minato.
'Damn, just when you think the Grind was getting slower... fate opens up a new path. Maybe Hizashi was right, fate does play unfairly and loves me quite a bit~!'
Hizashi shrugged at Kai's reply as the veins around his eyes bulged while the lavender irises concentrated in his eyes to form a likeness of pupils as he gazed at Tsunade while Kai exclaimed from the sidelines, "Beware though, Hizashi likes looking through clothes!"
"What?" Mikoto yelped and covered her privates as Hizashi, despite the annoyance and frustration he felt, revealed himself to be much more reserved as he calmly responded, "I do not find any individual in the village attractive enough to make me fall so low. On a side note... that is something Kai would do had he been blessed by a Byakugan."
"You don't know that," Kai smirked, "Maybe I can create a Jutsu that replicates Byakugan."
"Good luck with that," Hizashi muttered with a hint of amusement. If it was possible, Kekkei Genkai Dojutsu wouldn't be as revered as they are now. He looked at Tsunade for a minute while the group grew silent before he shook his head. The bulging veins on his temples receded as he looked at Tsunade with a clearly intrigued and impressed look, "With enough time, my slightly stronger Byakugan can know the difference between a shadow clone much less a transformation... but your transformation feels like... Orochimaru-san's ability to stretch parts of his body or Jiraiya-san's hair technique."
"Hmm," Tsunade smirked cockily, "And that's how you do it!" She nodded at Hizashi with a smile, "Thanks a lot. Your better Byakugan is the reason why I wanted you to assess it. Hmm... anyway, if you're busy, you can go on about your duties."
"Actually," Hizashi grew somewhat quiet, "I was wondering if I could..." his gaze trailed towards Kushina who grew a bit confused while Tsunade narrowed her eyes, "You know I respect your skills despite your age. But it's better not to pull my apprentices into a political mess. And, even with her heritage, you'd have a better shot of convincing Kai than Kushina."
His eyelids jumped as he looked at Kai who winked in return, "I told you in Ame that I'm the most talented Fuinjutsu practitioner of the village but you wouldn't believe me."
"When did you become that?" Kushina snorted, "I'll be the best!"
"Yeah, sure you will. I'll let you claim that if you ask me nicely enough," Kai shrugged.
Their antics weren't something that interested Hizashi so giving Kai a deep look, he bowed towards Tsunade and left.
"Hmm, now that's that. Come on, it's time for your milk and breakfast." Now that Tsunade didn't sport an intimidating set of artillery and that scowl, Nono towered over the little girl with a sweet smile while adjusting her round-rimmed glasses.
"Oh? Is that it?" Tsunade narrowed her eyes and smirked menacingly... which translated to cuteness on her chubby cheeks.
"Aw, now I can't even call you my Sensei, Tsunade-chan!" Mikoto fussed while Kushina beamed, "Yeah, shorty!"
"Heh, Tsunade-chan... given how you look now... you didn't use iryo-ninjutsu for some underhanded enhancements, right?" Kai chuckled as Tsunade shot the boy a glare before scoffing, "Not quite there yet, squirt! Enough playing around. I'll teach you this technique since it's going to be one of the best ways for you to get familiar with Yang Release. All of you."
--
Chakra can be used in a variety of ways and while iryo-ninjutsu utilized a special charge of yin and yang in chakra to form healing chakra, there are other uses of Yin and Yang releases.
Yin is heavily affiliated with Genjutsu. It is the part of the chakra that represents the spiritual side and is related to the formation of intent in any Jutsu.
Yang is affiliated with anything, not genjutsu. It is instinctively used in almost every jutsu, albeit so minutely that it isn't even considered a separate act. It represents the physical aspect of chakra and is what gives the molded chakra with a specific intent of Jutsu the form the shinobi desires. Again, the Yang charge is so minute and instinctual that it's not even considered a special act...
But there are specific clans that use Yang Release in a more notable physical shift to their bodies.
Specifically— The Akimichi Clan.
There was someone else who had a basic grasp of Yang Release— Jiraiya, and that's why Tsunade had wanted to seek his advice before Minato actually managed to inspire her.
On the other hand, unlike what Hizashi believed, Orchimaru's techniques were related to his adventures when he was younger and some body modification experiments on himself.
Tsunade's technique was a mix of both, actually. She was a medical kunoichi, after all. Her unique twist on Transformation Jutsu was actually the opposite of the Akimichi Clan's technique to increase the size of their bodies to gigantic proportions.
Applying highly Yang Charged Chakra on Transformation Jutsu over her body, Tsunade could not only shift her appearance but also her bone structure and organs yet, she wasn't... bold enough to push through the basic limitations. This technique could easily be weaponized and was almost... forbidden.
"Sensei," Kai smiled which did not reassure her. They were back in her clan compound's training ground with no overt spies about so they could train in peace.
"What?" Tsunade remarked sullenly, almost predicting what he was about to ask.
"Can't we use this technique to shift our bodies completely—"
"You'll die," Tsunade shook her head and looked at her apprentices seriously. She had only explained the surface of the Jutsu but had yet to give a detailed note.
"I'll get to your point in a minute," Tsunade cut Kai off even before he began as she leaned against the tree, "Any organism has trillions of cells and a metaphysical chakra pathway system that is unique to them. This transformation technique really makes use of the body's own cellular data banks to revert our appearances. This means we can always look younger than we are now but not older because the growth itself has not registered. And this being a jutsu means that even if you have transformed into a younger counterpart... that doesn't mean you or your organs won't age."
"In the offhanded chance, you're crazy enough to try and transform into an organism even if another human, whose complete genetic makeup and data are not known to you then your body will show an extreme case of rejection and then... the end," she stared at Kai coldly while speaking, "I know all this because I'm aware what I was doing with this Jutsu. Sure... maybe, with inhuman level research and control you can permanently shift from your human form to something else... then all it would do is get the jutsu categorized as the forbidden one..."
Kai nodded silently. He understood all this and grew quiet.
"Well, while I'm teaching you this, the only way to permanently keep this technique active is by having this seal formed," Tsunade pointed at the purple diamond mark on her forehead, "So train well. This technique can be used in a few situations to escape an opponent if you know how to shroud your chakra."
'Ah, chakra suppressing technique, too... truly, the grind never stops!'
'And there's also the need to begin the remaining nature transformation alongside training with Minato... he did have this amazing but incomplete skill after all.'
[Training Frog Kata (8/10): An inferior version of Frog Kata that optimizes the body's strength and reflexes. Current Stamina Consumption: 0.39 (5).
Next Level: Perform the stances 11/42 times or 2 SP.]
The reason why Kai was amazed by this technique that Minato showed way back then was due to the tiny piece of tidbit he got about something called Nature Energy... and color him interested. But if even a D-rank technique was merely a preparatory state then Kai needed to take things step-by-step. Besides, trying to form that chakra ball technique with Minato was fun... and profitable enough to postpone D-ranked missions for the time being.
Meanwhile, the very same day, another skill kissed his grind.
[Body Transformation Jutsu (1/20): The ability to shift the state of the body to look naturally younger than the current age by using chakra to compress bones and organs based on the cellular data bank of the body. Reduces the consumption of chakra by 2.5% at every level. Current Consumption: 3200/min.
Next Level: Consume 507/11000 chakra to utilize the skill or 14 SP.]
A B-rank technique... but almost every medical jutsu utilizes too much chakra.
The following days were quite peaceful... well, since they weren't deployed into the Amegakure even after it had opened its borders, this time, the entire Suna War Front shifted into Amegakure making many wonder secretly if Hanzo even cared about the nation he ruled or not. Culling a few rebellious villages, in the eyes of leaders, was an acceptable outcome but letting three Shinobi Village's War Camps settle on one border... made many secretly reevaluate Hanzo the Salamander.
The grind reigned hard and Kai developed himself alongside others. He still hadn't gotten the hang of the technique that Minato wanted to achieve. After all, pure chakra construct easily used chakra amount above 10000 when serious... and that was a hard limit for Kai's and Minato's reserves.
Yet, it seemed that some were destined to end their year with a literal and bloody bang as a platoon was sent into the heart of Amegakure once reports of Hanzo assisting Iwa and Suna were released.
