Chapter One - An Inconvenient Truth

"...I'm so sorry..." Will's cries slowly faded out.

For most couples the line is drawn when a partner has been unfaithful. But for Jennifer Jareau, she could only wish for this to be the height of her problems. Adultery would have been a walk in the park - for this day was one she was unlikely to forget.

It was a sight to behold. Just not the kind you'd be hoping for on a Monday night. Eyes wide open, all she could do was stare in disbelief. After a gruelling case, this was the last thing she was expecting to have to deal with on her arrival home. But alas it was something she had to quite literally face. On the floor lay strewn a woman as white as a sheet. Except this sheet had a multitude of conspicuous marks and was lying in a pool of blood. What's more, husband Will was towering over it.

"W-what is that? Please tell me that's not..." She tried to gather her thoughts, while maintaining some form of composure. All the while feeling very bewildered. Thinking to herself how her husband could do something like this and more importantly why. Will was an esteemed member of the police force with years of service behind him, so this situation made even less sense.

"Blood. Blood. Blood. It's bloo-" repeated a frantic Will with little room for a breath.

Such an exclamation forced Jennifer to interrupt, so she immediately quizzed "Stop! Just quiet. What have you done? Who is this? Why?"

"I couldn't even begin to explain it. It was an accident!" he answered. "She came at me one second and then, well, then this. I didn't know what to do. You have to help me - please!"

Clearly flustered, Will begged his wife for help, hoping that with her skill-set and experience she'd be able to make this situation a whole lot better. Although if she was to attempt to fix this mess, it was going to be a long shot and a far cry from simple.

She had to think, something as big as this, a decision would be difficult to make. Should she go to the police? Should she turn him in?

"Can I just ask you, regardless of what you have or haven't gotten into here, did you even take into consideration the kids? I mean Henry could have walked out of his room and seen this mess, how would you have explained that to him?!"

Dumbfounded, Will shrugged with so much regret on his face. Irrespective of being guilty or innocent, the scenario he was in, the idea of his children witnessing even a hint of it, destroyed him. His silence certainly said it all.

The stress of what could only have been 10 minutes sent JJ into a silent spin, completely compromised morally. That night at that time there was nothing that she was able to do.

"I'm not going to deal with this right now, I need to go to bed. I can think about this and it should be clearer in the morning. Just clean this up and don't leave this house. Okay?"

"I got it," Will replied, wiping the dripping sweat from his forehead. He then began to clean, struggling to maintain his composure.
