A true Rose

Prologue

Several thousand years ago, before the event that would transpire in the present. The rose family was a mighty family to be hold. Filled from top to bottom with warriors of many kinds. From archers to fighters to mages. It had every kind just like any other family from that time period. However the rose family had another ace up their sleeve, a fighter type that was both unique and mysterious. One of a kind type warriors they had. And these were riders. Not just any kind of riders however. But a famous kind of rider. Dragon Rider. These incredible riders rode on top of actual dragons to obliterate any opponent. However, not just anyone in their family could ride these. They had to be the chosen ones. Those beings with silver eyes could ride a dragon. But that wasn't the actual reason why only them, could ride these dragons. That was fabricated by the family in order to scare off any would be wrongdoings. No, the only thing that allowed the Silver eyes access to dragons was but a simple feature. They could become closer than anyone to a dragon. They could learn their ways, gain skills from these mythical beings and gain some special magical attributes. With the famous kind of examples being, gaining dragon scales on parts of their body or being straight up immune to fire. But a less famous kind, and yet significantly powerful attribute being the power to not die as easily. Gaining another heart, unbreakable bones and being able to take impacts that would kill even warriors at the best of times. But as time went on, less and less people had that chance to meet these powerful creatures. And to add insult to injury, a major part of the Rose family's home disappeared into the abyss. Taking with them a lot of dragons with them. Not to mention, being backstabbed by those close to them. And eventually even a powerful family like the Rose family fell into ruin. Leaving behind just a small household of the Rose family. And that is... The current generation.

Ruby was just as per usual playing outside with her sister. She was three years old and has yet to birth her beautiful silver eyes. Meanwhile her sister of six years of age, already had her demon eyes or red eyes as some called it. Yang was an unwilling participant of Ruby's game as she wanted to practice for school. Not that Ruby would let her. Her mom was just sitting on the front porch with her husband. Watching Ruby drag her sister over to varies different activities. Most of which bored Yang out. You see, since Ruby isn't allowed to train like a warrior yet as she is too young, she filled her days instead with collecting artifacts that surrounded their home. And write all her findings in her book with information. Despite her young age, she was excellent at writing and counting. Especially brilliant for someone her age. And right now she was ranting on and on and on about a new piece of artifact she found near a cliff.

"That is cool and all Ruby... But... *Yawn* I really should get back to training." Yang said bored out of her mind.

"But sis! You love dragons! This picture depicts someone riding one! And with a Rose symbol no less!" Ruby argued.

Yang looked a bit more serious at Ruby, "Wouldn't that picture mean, someone from your family rode dragons in the past? Meaning I cannot ride one as such?"

That statement made Ruby hesitate, Yang wasn't wrong. If the picture is the truth then only those within the Rose family could ride these mythical beings. But what made Ruby even more hesitate is that dangerous glint she had been seeing in Yang's eyes as of late. She might not be very social, but even she understood the meaning of that glint. It was jealousy. Something about her made Yang jealous. She just couldn't figure out what. It put Ruby oddly at edge as though something wasn't quite right here. In fact it should be her, that should be jealous. Yang was allowed to be trained as a warrior at the age of three. Whereas Ruby has to wait atleast two more years. Much to her chagrin.

"My special rose." Her mom, Summer Rose asked.

"Yes mom?" Ruby replied.

"Give your sister some space okay? Her test is coming up and she needs to practice."

"Okay! Sorry sis-" Ruby said as she looked into the eyes of Yang only to flinch when she did so. Yang's eyes were darkened with rage. She looked at her with a bottled up jealousy and anger. It made Ruby terrified. But she managed to play it off. But only just barely. "I was so caught up in my discovery that I..."

"I know Rubees. It is fine." No it wasn't fine. Yang's words contradicted her bodily behavior. Causing Ruby to unwittingly gulp uncontrollably. As Yang wandered off, taking her deadly stare with her. Ruby looked back on the situation. The only thing unique about this situation is... "Special rose... Oh no." Ruby said as she realized what was going on here. Yang was jealous that was constantly called 'Special' when she was just called sister or the older one. It made Ruby worried. But there was nothing she could do.

"Mom?"

"Yes my dear?"

"Why do you keep calling me special? I think I am just a normal child." Ruby said, she watched as her sister turned around with equal interest. Her stare still deadly.

"Hm. Perhaps because you are the pride of the Rose family. And because you are able to do math and write at the young age of three. Whereas your sister was only able to do so at the age of five." Summer replied. Not understanding the implications of what she was saying. Ruby slowly turned around to see Yang storm off.

"But Yang was able to fight very well at my age. Doesn't that make her special too?" Ruby asked, a quiver of fear began shaking under her lip. She began to understand the implications of her mom's words. At it wasn't pretty.

"It does. Of course. We used to call her our special little warrior." she replied.

"And... why do you not do that anymore?" Ruby asked, no longer looking in her mother's gaze.

"Because she has outgrown it."

Ruby slowly turned around to look at her mother. Worry deep in her face. "I doubt that mom. I fear for the consequences of your actions." She somehow said without messing up. Then wandered off to search for her sister. After a bit of wandering, she found her sister at an cliff overlooking a massive abyss below. Her sister was sitting on the edge of it. "Yang?"

"Yes sister?" Yang said, her voice had an edge.

"Mom thinks you have outgrown your nickname."

"Which one?"

"Our special little warrior." Ruby replied.

"What do you think?"

"I disagree. In fact I almost argue that my special skill in writing and math isn't anything special. Being able to fight grownups as a child is far more impressive." She replied.

"I wonder what would happen if you didn't exist." Yang said, causing Ruby to flinch. Not out of sadness, but fear. That sentence was very loaded. Filled with anger and jealousy.

"I suppose... You would have a reason to move out of this house earlier." She replied.

"Do you fear me?" Yang asked. Her voice entirely neutral, which scared her sister more.

"Well... You have the ability to demolish me. I am powerless when in combat. Whereas you could easily overpower me. So... I suppose their is some hesitation with you. But I wish fear wasn't one of em."

"You wish fear wasn't one of them?" Yang asked confused.

"Sis, I am not blind like my mom. I can tell that you have been bottling up your anger and jealousy. It doesn't help that you look at me as if you want to kill me sometimes." Ruby added.

"I am sorry." she suddenly said. However it didn't sound like an apology. It was as if she was apologizing to herself.

"Hm?" Ruby said as she suddenly began shaking. She realized something terrible was about to happen. But what? She didn't know.

"I am sorry." Yang repeated as she got closer to Ruby.

Terrified. Ruby was stuck in place. As if she was in a swamp. "Yang. I truly mean it! You are more special to me. Than mom thinks! But um... Please, don't get closer..." Ruby said, still stuck in place.

"..." Yang mumbled another 'I am sorry.' under her breath but it was too quiet for Ruby to hear. Instead Ruby heard her own heartbeat getting louder and louder. Ruby looked at Yang, who was now standing in front of her, like truly sizing Ruby up.

Yang then grabbed Ruby's neck with her bare hands. Causing Ruby to hold onto her arm desperately trying to find a way out of this situation. But coming up empty. "Wait! Please! Stop!" She shouted. But no response was found. Instead she saw as her legs suddenly dangled above the abyss. Her eyes shrunk into tiny pupils as the situation worsened severely.

"Why?! Why are you attacking me?! There is nothing I can do! This is all on mom! Please... Please don't drop me... please..." Ruby shouted at first, only to reduce sound as the sentence went on. She looked at Yang's spite filled eyes. It was then, she realized that their was no way of getting out of this. She looked down into the abyss. She realized, this was trap. And there was no way of getting out.

"I am sorry." Yang repeated again and again.

Ruby's eyes became filled with tears. Her life had only just begun. And now she was faced with a deadly threat. But... there was nothing she could do. She was too weak. She was too powerless. She was a disgrace of the Rose Family. It was game over, before the game even began. "I am sorry mom. For being born." She said as tears now freely dropped of her face. And then, there was air. Yang had let go. She watched as she fell deeper and deeper into the abyss and away from her attacker. Her own sister. She wanted to scream, but instead she gave up. She let herself fall, as she rolled up into a ball and awaited death in the face of it. "I am sorry. Yang, Dad, Mom. I am so sorry." she whispered. She closed her eyes and awaited her demise.
