CHAPTER 79
Wade had not expected the fury that Nathan would unleash on him. Wade's punch was only the trigger for Nathan's explosion of anger. Every blow Nathan landed carried the force of an enraged father, determined to bring justice for the horrors his family had faced.
With the ferocity of a runaway tractor, Nathan advanced on Wade. His punches came down like hammers on Wade's face and belly, each blow driven by years of pain and anguish. He wasn't just fighting Wade, he was fighting all the demons that haunted his mind from the moment he learned of his children's kidnapping and his wife's agony.
Nathan wanted Wade to feel, even for a brief moment, a fraction of the pain Elizabeth endured when she was brutally assaulted. Every punch was an expression of his determination to make Wade pay for what he had done. The scene was wild, with Nathan acting like a tornado of human fury, unable to be contained by reason or common sense.
It was only when Bill rushed in and pulled Nathan off Wade that the storm of violence was interrupted. Wade lay on the ground, almost unconscious, his body scarred by Nathan's blows. It was a glimpse of the ferocity of a father whose love for his family was unwavering, and his determination to protect them relentless. Nathan was not just a man at that moment; he was the embodiment of righteous anger, shaped by pain and fueled by the desire for revenge. He was a wild bear.
Cody smiled at Robert and spoke softly:
- Robert, now I understand that saying ...
- What saying, Cody?
- Don't poke the jaguar with a short stick. And he started laughing.
Robert shared the same rage that consumed Nathan. He understood perfectly the desire for revenge that drove his friend and fellow mountie. If the situation were reversed and Wade were in his hands, he wouldn't hesitate to act in the same way. It was a feeling shared by many in the city, especially after what Wade and his accomplices had done.
Nathan was determined to ensure that those responsible for kidnapping his children and assaulting his wife faced the consequences of their actions. He wanted to show, not just the criminals, but everyone in the city, that the children had a protective father and that Allien had someone who would always defend her, whatever the cost.
When Wade was taken to the police station, Nathan looked at him with a firm and determined gaze. He was ready to face whatever it took to ensure that justice was done. Carson, examining Wade, left the police station and turned to Nathan with seriousness on his face.
- You're a good hand, my friend ...
Nathan felt a mixture of emotions, his heart heavy with anger, but he knew he had acted out of love for his family. When Bill helped him away from Wade, Carson reassured him:
- Nathan, don't feel bad. You were only protecting your family. If you had warned me, I would have gone and taught him a lesson myself. That was the last straw. The way he hurt little Jack, threatened Allien and made Elizabeth lose control... it was hard to hold the beast inside that room, and at times I thought I wouldn't make it out alive. You can't imagine how strong that woman is, or how good her aim is.
Bill, unable to contain his laughter at the situation, joined Nathan.
- Jack always said in his letters to his mother Charlote that she was as stubborn as a mule and as brave as a wild bear.
Carson intervened, bringing a smile to the tense faces.
- If I were you, Nathan, I would never test her patience.
Nathan replied with a crooked smile:
- I love my jaguar. For her, I would face the world. But I will never test her patience. My biggest goal in life is to make her happy.
That evening, Nathan held Elizabeth in his arms while they até dinner. The weight of the secret was almost unbearable, but he knew he had to share it. With a mixture of fear and determination, he began to talk about Grace and Viola's frame-up, and the fear he and Willian had about her reaction.
Carson listened attentively, understanding the gravity of the situation. He thought that, although it was a difficult conversation, hiding the truth would only make things worse. It was better that Elizabeth knew and that she could count on Nathan's and her father's support to face what was to come.
Nathan felt the weight of the world on his shoulders as he revealed the grim details. Every word seemed to tear a piece out of his heart, but he knew it was necessary. Elizabeth listened in silence, her gaze full of pain and disbelief.
After he had finished speaking, Nathan hugged Elizabeth tighter, trying to comfort her as best he could. The conversation left a heavy atmosphere in the air, but it also brought a sense of relief that they were finally sharing the burden together.
The three men, Bill, Willian and Carson, sat outside Nathan's house for hours on end. The sound of Elizabeth's sobs echoed through the night, penetrating deep into their souls. Each tear shed was like a sharp knife cutting through their already anguished hearts.
Her suffering was palpable, a pain so intense that it left the three men stunned and powerless. Elizabeth's inconsolable weeping was a vivid expression of her pain and agony, echoing through the corners of the silent night.
As time passed, a heavy silence enveloped the trio. They shared the same feeling of helplessness in the face of Elizabeth's suffering. Her every painful sigh seemed to echo within them, fueling their growing concern for her health and that of the baby she was carrying.
And so they stood there in silence, a silent vigil in solidarity with the pain Elizabeth was facing. There were no words that could console the depth of her distress, only the silent, supportive presence of the men who loved and supported her.
