Benji weaved his way through the crowded bar to the table that the Trebles had taken over for the evening. Most of the guys were already on the dance floor, but there was one still sitting at the table.

"Dude, I'm starting to get a little worried about you." Benji placed a beer in front of Jesse, who just stared at it with a far away look in his eye. "It's been a month, you need to get over it."

"I can't man." Jesse took the beer and took a sip. "I've been playing it over in my head and I just can't figure it out."

"She really didn't give you a reason?" Benji took a seat. "That doesn't seem like Beca. She's not exactly against speaking her mind."

"Right," Jesse groaned. "What did I do wrong?"

Benji didn't say anything. It sucked seeing his best friend like this but he did have an answer either. So, the guys had suggested a bro's night out which had led them here, a local bar just off Barden's campus. However, the plan didn't seem to be working.

"Look Jess," Benji gestured to the room, "We're at a bar and there are plenty of cute girls around. Why don't you go talk to one of them? Or try dancing with the guys. Try to forget about Beca just for one nig- Oh my God it's Beca!"

"What?" Jesse followed Benji's gaze and saw his ex-girlfriend sitting at the bar. "What is she doing here?"

"Uh," Benji snapped his mouth shut. In the distance he saw a familiar head of red hair. He really hoped things weren't about to get messy. Jesse stood up and Benji grabbed his arm. "Dude, what are you planning?"

"I'm just going to talk to her." Jesse was already moving, despite Benji's protests.

On the way to the bar Jesse considered his options. He hadn't spoken to the Bella since she broke up with him. And in that month he'd been racking his brain trying to figure out if he'd done something to push her away. He wasn't under any impressions that they'd get back together, Beca made that pretty clear, but he did want some closure.

"Hey million dollar baby."

Beca nearly choked on her drink. "Jesse? What are you doing here?"

Jesse gestured with his thumb over his shoulder to the other Trebles. "Guys night out. I could ask you the same thing."

"Um," Beca glanced over towards the restrooms.

Jesse followed her look and saw Chloe exit the ladies room. Suddenly the dots all connected in his brain and Jesse couldn't help himself. "Wait, are you on a date?"

"Keep it down," Beca hissed. "I don't want the whole bar to know."

"And with Chloe?" Jesse plopped down on the bar stool in front of him. "Does that mean you're gay?"

"Jesse!"

But Jesse was unraveling a month's worth of anxiety and he couldn't stop his brain from processing. "Is that why you broke up with me?"

Beca breathed out a long sigh before getting the barkeeper's attention. "Can I get two beers over here?" She turned back to Jesse. "I don't know, okay." The beers arrived and Beca eagerly accepted hers. "I'm still trying to figure things out."

Jesse took his own drink, still processing this new information. "I'm sorry for blurting it out like that."

"It's fine dude." Beca took another drink. "It kinda shocked me too."

"Is that why you broke up with me? So you could go out with Chloe?"

Beca ran her fingers through her hair. "Kinda. I'm sorry I didn't tell you but I didn't understand what was going on myself. And considering the situation it wouldn't have been fair to you."

"Actually, this is kinda a relief." Jesse laughed. "And here I thought I did something to make you hate me."

"What?" Beca gave him a confused look. "Jesse you were probably the best boyfriend I could have asked for. Thanks to you I'm better at working outside my comfort zone. If it wasn't for you I don't think I'd be nearly as outgoing as I am now."

Jesse was stunned. "Really?"

"Yeah man," She gave him a light hearted punch on the shoulder. "I mean you could be a little annoying at times with how many movies you made me watch. But if it wasn't for you then the only time I would have left the Bella house would have been for classes or practice."

"Oh," Jesse blushed. "That's nice to hear."

"Have you really been blaming yourself this entire time?" Beca took a drink and shook her head. "Why?"

"I don't know," Jesse tapped his fingers against the cold glass. "Isn't it always the guys fault?"

Beca's eyes widened. "Dude, that's not even close to the truth. You have got to stop watching those stupid romcoms, they're warping your perception of reality." That got them both laughing and it felt like a weight lifted from the conversation.

"Well," Jesse stood up and pulled out some bills to pay for his drink. "I'll leave you to your date." He could see Chloe slowly making her way across the dance floor. "Should probably get back to the guys before they do something stupid."

"Hold on a second." Beca pulled a pen out of her pocket and started writing something down on a napkin. "If I haven't mentally scared you from the dating scene then take this." She handed him the napkin and Jesse saw that it was a phone number. "Flo thinks you're cute."

"Really?"

"Yeah," Beca laughed. "Just don't take her out for Mexican. Apparently nothing in the states compares to her Abuela's cooking. But she likes sushi."

"Okay." Jesse stared at the number. He'd never considered other girls while dating Beca but he still had eyes, Flo was definitely cute. "Thanks."

"And Jesse, you know how you're obsessed with happy endings?"

"Yeah?"

Beca raised her glass, prompting Jesse to as well. "Here's hoping we both find ours."

Jesse smiled, it was the cheesy kind of thing he always said. "Cheers." He tapped his glass to hers.

Chloe finally reached them, wrapping her arm around Beca's waist. "Everything okay here?"

"Yeah," Beca leaned into the embrace, looking entirely at ease. "Just catching up."

Something made a loud crash from across the room. Looking over Jesse say that one of the Trebles had managed to get into trouble. "I better take care of that."

"See you around Jesse." Beca called after him.

"Duh," Jesse held his fist in the air, earning a laugh from the girls.

Once he was gone Chloe took his spot at the bar. "He's a good guy."

"Yeah," Beca smiled. "He is."

A/N: Okay so this is less Bechloe and more of a tribute to Jesse. He tends to get a lot of grief because it's easy to make him into a bad guy as a plot point for Beca and Chloe to get together. (I know because I've done it too.) But really he's a good guy who seems to be a dedicated boyfriend between the first two movies so I thought I'd throw him a bone. Plus I wanted to suggest a new ship since Flo never seems to get paired with anyone and I think they'd make a decent pair.

Anyway, I hope everybody enjoyed my stories!
