Bella couldn't help but smirk when she got off the phone with Edward the next morning. He'd rung to say they had finally find her cousin at 3am and she was now in hospital. One would think she would feel a crippling guilt that she had almost killed someone but in actual fact she just felt satisfaction and justice. Serves her right for being such a prissy bitch. Getting herself ready for school, she hopped in her truck and drove. Her dad had told the Cullens to take the day off as they must all be tired from searching all night so she was free to talk to the others about how it all went down.

As the rain pounded on the windows of the cafeteria Bella and the others sat again at the Cullen's table. Jessica was the first to speak.

' Did you hear? She wasn't found until the early hours, though apparently it was that Sam guy from La Push and Edward who found her. '

' Yeah, Edward rang me this morning and said they'd all been about to give up when somebody had suggested the school, It was a good idea Chloe for me to take her bag home and put it on her bed, it made it seem as if she'd been home first.' Out of the group, only did Tyler look and feel uncomfortable.

'Guys, don't you think we went too far? She almost died. I don't like her either but i didn't want to kill her, just teach her a bit of a lesson. We all knew where the was but we didnt tell anyone

' Oh shut up Tyler, she got what she deserved. I'm going to the Cullens tonight, I'll let you know if they say anything else. ' With that the table dispersed to do what they needed to do before their last two lessons. They didn't notice the petite asian girl tucked in the corner behind them, her hand over her mouth in horror and silent tears making her way down her cheeks. Knowing she didn't have long, she rang Edward, thanking the lucky stars that she had been in a school project together last year with Bella and had exchanged numbers.

'Hello?'

'Edward it's Angela. We've got a problem.'

Edward sat in his fathers office at the hospital with his head in his hands. He'd just got off the phone with Angela and immediately gone into the room, followed by his family, Sam, Jared and Paul. Paul was pacing in anger, trying to keep a lid on his phasing, Jared was staring angrily out of the window while the Cullens were sat in silence. Finally Esme spoke up.

' I thought Bella had gotten better, How could she try to kill her own cousin?' Sam growled lowly in his throat.

' I'm not sure you know just how deeply Bella has hated Tori since they were kids. What surprises me is none of us realised before this that she was capable of murder. How are we going to keep her safe? I'm not sure Charlie will survive if he found out it was his daughter, and Tori needs him just as much as she needs us.' Carlisle sat quietly, holding Esme's hand and stroking her knuckles. He was appalled that it had come to this.'

Rosalie surprised them all by bringing a suggestion.

' Do you think maybe her magical friends will have a way of keeping an eye on them? or a way of letting us know when she is in danger? ' The others sat quietly, thinking it through. Sam nodded.

' It's worth a try, do any of you know how to get hold of Hedwig?' Emmett shook his head.

' No, last time she...' tap tap tap.' Never mind.'

They looked over to the window to find the snowy bird tapping om the window. Jasper let her in and she flew to Alice's outstretched arm.

' Hey girl, what have you got there?' Untying the letter she read it out loud.

Luna saw everything that had happened, is Tori okay? don't answer that, of course she isn't. That stupid bint Bella really doesn't know she shouldn't make enemies of us. Harry and Ron were ready to apparate straight to you and hex the hell out of her. Even Ginny was ready to do her bat bogey hex. ( which as the name suggests your bogeys turned into flying bats that hang out of your nose) Anyway, Severus is almost done with the potions, just another week or two so we will see you all then. In the meantime pour this potion on to Tori's bracelet, it wont nullify the runes but it will allow Alice to be able to see where she is if she falls unconscious. Knowing Tori it wont take much! The stories Sanguini used to tell us! Anyway, I'll let you get on and we will see you in another few weeks.

Hedwig gave a loud squawk a d held out her leg for Alice to take the potion which was wrapped in tissue.

' Well that answers your question Rosalie.'

Carlisle sat back in his seat, he was excited to meet these witches and wizards. But now wasn't the time. He frowned, thinking hard.

' I think we are going to need to keep a close eye on them. Edward, you're already there at night with Bella and we can always send somebody else when you need to hunt. ' Sam spoke up.

' We can do that, just get a message to us when you need to go and we'll be there.' Nodding, Carlisle continued.

' Alice what's the weather this week?'

' Raining until the day Hermione arrives, which means we will be at school with them. I'm in most of her classes, Edward is in Bella's and the others Jasper is in. She'll always have someone close.'

' Rose and i can make sure were in the cafeteria at the end of second period.' Emmett said pointing to himself and his wife.

After more plans had been made Edward went to sit with Tori while the others went home and Carlisle went back to work. Luckily Carlisle had managed to get her in a private room so they didn't have to worry about acting human.

Edward sat next to Tori watching her. Even sedated he could see the frown lines on her forehead. His mind was in chaos. He felt horrified that Bella had tried to kill her cousin, even if it had just been a prank it wasn't a funny one. especially as he had been there when Tori had told them her fears. Was it really only a month or so ago?

He wasn't sure how to feel right now. When Charlie had rung Alice the day before he was certain that if he had a heart it would have stopped. Even when James and Victoria had been going for Bella he hadn't felt so utterly afraid. The longer it went, the more worked up he became. Then when he saw her bleeding and blue in the closet, all he could think was that she couldn't die on him. He was in half a mind as to bite her and change her to stop it happening before he remembered the treaty and the fact the Alpha was right behind him! Why? Why had it affected him like that? He felt protective on her, so much so he would happily destroy anyone who tried to hurt her, including his girlfriend.

He didn't understand the feelings in his gut, and he was ashamed and too angry to even contemplate going to see Bella right now. If she didn't leave her cousin alone, he had a feeling they wouldn't last together as a couple. He couldn't bare that she could easily kill somebody, let alone her family.

Tori was in darkness. She had no sense of time, No feeling just utter darkness. It had been like this for hours, maybe even days.

Eventually the black started to recede and with it came the pain. Her ribs felt like a truck had hit her and her head throbbed. Her throat felt scratchy as she tried to make a sound. She winced, but next moment could feel something small and cold press against her lips, opening them slightly she felt an ice chip slide across her tongue, moistening the cavern of her mouth. Opening her eyes, she blinked repeatedly. The light burned and made her head hurt worse. Whimpering slightly she turned her head away, somebody thoughtfully turned them down and she felt soft hands prodding her head and neck. Moaning softly she tried to pull away, but they were firm. She felt another hand in hers, squeezing her fingers lightly. Once she'd come to a little more she could hear a soft melodic voice. One that was familiar.

' Tori? Can you hear me? Open your eyes,'

Doing as she was told slowly, Carlisle came into view above her.

' Whe...' She grimaced, Her throat aching badly.

' Don't try and talk yet, your in the hospital. Now, can you follow the light when i shine it into your eyes.' She did so, shutting them multiple times as the light hurt her head.

'Are you in pain?' She nodded, and rasped out.

' My head hurts. Who ran me over?' Edward and Carlisle looked at each other alarmed. Was she kidding, or did she not remember what happened at all? Having a silent conversation they decided not to tell her what actually happened. The kids at school just knew she had been found passed out, not where.

' Tori? Do you know what happened?' She thought, raising her hand to rub her forehead.

' No, i remember finishing school but that's about it. What happened?' again, Edward looked at his father. Letting him take the lead and making a mental note to inform everyone else on the story.

' Well, nobody knew where you were, we had the whole town and the wolves looking for you. Eventually we found you passed out in the girls locker room at school, it looks like you hit your head on the way down. Do you remember why you were there?' Tori tried, she really did, but it just came out blank.

' I'm sorry.. i.. I don't remember anything.' Edward took her hand in his and gently stroked her knuckles. She felt the tension in her shoulders slowly start to fade away. She didn't mention that he didn't release her hand. Carlisle continued.

' We'll keep you in to monitor you another night but after you can home to rest for the weekend before school again Monday, as long as you don't split any of the stitches you'll be alright. ' Carlisle patted her arm but before he could release her the monitoring machines started going haywire. He breathing was fast and laboured, her eyes were wide with fear and she was scrapping at her throat. Edward looked at here alarmed.

' Carlisle? what's happening?!'

'Tori? Tori? Calm down, you're having a panic attack. take deep breathes.' Carlisle tried to coax her into doing it but it didn't work. As she began to hyperventilate Edward pulled her forward, sat behind her and pulled her against his chest, placing his hand on top of her on her own chest he spoke quietly in her ear, exaggerating his own breathing as he did so.

' Come on Tori, feel me breathing in.. and out.. again... in... out, that's it, keep going.' It took another 10 minutes for her breathing to regulate and by that time she was so utterly exhausted she couldn't keep her eyes open. Carlisle stood watching, onces she'd fallen back to sleep her checked her blood pressure and heart rate. Edward gently manoeuvred out from behind her and laid her back softly on the pillows.

' Carlisle,' He spoke softly. 'What was that?'

'That Edward is what ive been afraid of. Panic attacks after trauma is natural, but severity can vary.

' What do you suppose triggered it?'

'maybe the thought of being in hospital, or being alone, i actually doubt she will even remember let alone explain when she wakes. Are you staying? I can get Esme or Alice to come if you'd rather. ' He watched his son. He didn't need any gifts to know his son was slowly falling for his girlfriends cousin. He just hoped it didn't end in bloodshed.' I'm staying, i don't want to see Bella right now.' Carlisle patted his shoulder and left the room. Edward sat vigil over Tori the entire night.

As Edward watched over a sleeping Tori, Bella made her way to the Cullens after school. Charlie had collapsed into bed the minute he got home from the hospital so she decided to head out. Walking through the door she called out.

'Edward? Alice? Are you here.'

' In the lounge Bella.' Bella walked in to find Alice and Rosalie sat on the couch. When Rose saw he she huffed and walked out, Bella didn't think much on it. Rose always hated her.

' Hey Alice where's Edward? '

Alice smiled at her, Bella didnt notice how fake it was.

' Hes at the hospital with Tori.'

' What? why? I was meant to be spending time with him tonight.'

Alice inwardly smirked.

' Well someone is obviously after Tori so Carlisle and the pack decided we would take turns keeping an eye on her until whoever or is is caught? Sam Uley is going to switch with him at about 3am.' Bella huffed loudly and slumped into the armchair.

'What am i supposed to do now then? why can't someone else go instead?'

' Because he will be able to hear anybody who enters the hospital to hurt Tori and protect her.' Bella huffed again and Alice closed her eyes, wishing the lord for patience.

' Well im off shopping Bella, do you want to come?'

' No thanks, i guess i'll just go home seeing as hes too busy.' She stomped out and back to her car.

Edward ran his hand through his hair as he waited in Carlisle's office. Hed just now, left Tori when Charlie arrived, having snatched his hand away quickly before he was seen. Charlie looked a mess, he had deep circles round his eyes and his beard looked like it hadnt been styled. He hadnt even had the energy to say more than a quick good morning before he sat in the seat Edward offered him and replaced the boys hand with his. The sedation had kept Tori asleep all night, Hopefully she'll leave to go back home that evening.

Edward didnt even need to wait for Carlisle, he was just trying to put off seeing Bella for as long as possible, Alice had already warned him about how annoyed she was with him and he just didn't want to deal with it.

Sighing again he stood and headed off to school. He was there within minutes and made his way to homeroom. Waiting for the inevitable. He could hear the teenagers around him speculating what happened. Some pf the braver ones came to question him if Tori was alright seeing as they he had been one of the ones to find after. After stating she was okay when he last saw her he deliberately turned to Alice when she sat in the seat next to him.

'Alice? What are you doing? Thats Bellas seat, you know that.' She grinned at him.

' I know, but shes going to be late and Mr banner wants us working in pairs. He'll have just moved me here anyway. ' Edward smirked.

' Sure Alice. ' They talked lowly about inconsequential things until the bell rang. Just as Alice said, Mr banner put them all into partners. He had just started explaining the project when Bella waltzed in, face as red as a tomato when all faces turned to her. She quickly muttered an apology and went to her seat, but stopped in her tracks when she saw Alice sitting there.

' Er Alice?'

' Oh sorry Bella! Mr Banner asked us into pairs and you werent here, but there is a space at the back with Jack, i'm sure he'll be your partner. ' Everybody heard Jack huff and puff but obediently move his bag off of the seat next to him and gesture for Bella to sit. She did reluctantly, but only after Mr Banner became impatient watching her standing still and ordered her to hurry up. The lesson passed quickly, Edward was in a slight better mood than hed anticipated but he know he couldn't be too off with his girlfriend. They had all decided not to confront her about the incident so he had to at least the and act normal with her. Just before the bell rang Mr Banner called Edward and Alice to the front.

' Mr and Miss Cullen, could i ask you to include Tori in your group? She may need extra support over the weekend as shes missed the class but i think you two could handle it.' Bella had been waiting at the door for Edward but she jumped in quickly.

' No, its alright Mr Banner, how about i work with the Cullens and my cousin can work with Jack?' She asked hopefully. Mr Banner frowned.

' Miss Swan you've already started your project with Mr Bentley, I also think it would be good for you to work with somebody else other than Mr Cullen for once.'

' But.. i..'

' No buts. You are not switching partners.' Bella scowled but nodded whereas Edward tried not to grin in amusement.

He wrapped his arm round her waist and kissed her forehead. Hating that he had to fight so hard not to give into temptation and drain her blood there and then. She knew it too, as she would deliberately flick her hair to the other side of her neck just to see his reaction. It's one of the reasons why Rosalie hated her.

They made their way to the lunch hall and sat at their usual table. Edward could hear the thoughts of the little group who had helped Bella. Tyler was the only one to feel guilty. But he was too much of a coward to do or say anything.

They spent a mundane lunch, talking quietly until the bell rang and it was time for gym. As usual Bella had two left feet and got whacked by the volleyball more times than she hit it.

Driving Bella home? Edward grinned when he realised Charlie had brought home Tori and they were cuddling say on the couch. Tori's head on his his hand running through her long blonde hair. Bella let them in and scoffed slightly at the sight before rushing to her cousins side. Grabbing her into a hug she gushed.

' Oh my god Tori! Are you okay? Where were you?! I was so worried when you didn't come home.' She showed just enough empathy and worry. ' Edward seethed, quietly watching the performance his girlfriend was giving. It was beyond difficult not to snap at her that it was her fault but held his tongue knowing it wouldn't help.

Tori smiled awkwardly at her cousin and patted her arm.

' Im fine thank you Isabella, It'll take more than a knock to the head and bruised ribs to take me down.'

Edwards head snapped up at her words. Bruises? Carlisle hadn't mentioned that, did he hurt her giving her cpr? the bracelet was supposed to stop that... wait, didnt she mention it stopped the strength but she needed to be conscious for them to disappear? Maybe that was it. He felt a horrible guilt slide into his stomach. He had hurt her while saving her. He heard a small whisper as Bella talked with Charlie.

' It's alright, Carlisle explained how you saved me when i wasnt breathing. don't feel guilty. The bruises are gone now. Thank you.' He watched her silently, breath caught as she smiled softly at him until he nodded minutely.

Bella and Edward spent the evening doing homework and sitting in the lounge. Although the grounding had lifted, Charlie had kept the curfew and rules in place for Edward, and for once, he didn't feel he minded. He and Charlie had been getting on much better, and Tori was always a joy to be with. Eventually, Tori fell asleep on Charlie. Edward felt himself smiling softly at her occasionally before he snapped back to attention before Bella noticed. Thankfully, she was engrossed in her reading. When it got to 8pm, Charlie attempted to manoeuvre out from under Tori, who was sleeping deeply but wasn't able to move. Both men chuckled before Edward stood up.' Do you want me to take her up?' Edward could feel Bella glaring at him but he wasnt just going to sit there and watch Charlie struggle, not only was that incredibly rude, Tori also needed as much sleep as possible to recover from the concussion. Charlie had mentioned that she had practically begged Carlisle to be allowed home on the provision. He would do a home check on her tomorrow.

Making sure not to touch Charlie, Edward carefully lifted Tori into his arms and cradled her close. He marvelled at the fact that her skin, to him, felt normal temperature rather than hot or warm as any other humans would be. Embarrassingly, Tori ended up wrapping her arms around his neck and cuddling closer. Charlie raised an eyebrow and Edward shrugged, shooting a nervous glance at his girlfriend who he could see a vein ticking in her jaw, a sure sign that she was angry.

Following Charlie upstairs he waited for him to open her bedroom door before placing her gently on her bed. Before retreating to leave Charlie to get her reasy for bed, Charlie placed a hand on his shoulder.

' Dont worry, I wont mention it to Bella. Just try not to hurt her too much when it ends alright? It's inevitable but just be careful.' Edward stared as Charlie turned away and shut the door. He couldn't work out what he meant but he had a feeling he knew more than he was letting on. Edward didnt hear any other thoughts coming from his girlfriends father, so he brushed it off for now.

Edward lay next to Bella as she slept and he couldn't stop thinking about what Charlie had meant. Bella had hissed at him for carrying her cousin upstairs, saying it was inappropriate and too intimate. He'd explained his reasons, that he was just wanting to help Charlie and she then huffed and settled down. He offered to leave if she was angry but she refused. Now, she had turned away from him in her sleep and it gave him the perfect opportunity to sit and think. But he didnt have silence for long as he once again, heard whimpering and muttering from across the hall. Slipping out the door and across the landing he nudged the door open and sat on the edge of the bed. Tori had tears dripping down her cheeks and she was whispering.

' please.. please, i don't like it... please, let me out.' wrapping his hand round hers he whispered soothing words and she slowly woke up. A marked difference from the time before.

' Edward?,

' you were dreaming again? are you alright?' Pulling her hand away to wipe her cheeks she turned away to hide her face.

'I'm fine, go back to Bella'

' Are you sure?'

'yes, thank you. go on.' He stood up and made his way to the door. However as he reached for the handle he heard a choked sob come from behind him. Turning, he saw that Tori had wrapped her arms round herself and was trying desperately not to make a sound. Hesitating for just a moment he re- shut the door and walked back over to the crying girl. Lifting her entire body into his arms and placing her on his lap he tucked her head into his neck, ignoring he sudden squeak and being moved.

'What..'

'Shh, Go to sleep Tori, i'll be here.' She looked up into his eyes, He could feel her heart pounding and damn did he want to kiss her. There were no other thoughts on his mind, not his girlfriend, or her Uncle or anything except that he thought she was beautiful even when she was crying. He started to lean in but the moment he did she tucked her head back into his neck and let out a long breath. He lay back against her headboard, wrapping the blanket round her small form and stroked her hair. Eventually she drifted off into a peaceful sleep. It was nearing 1am but he knew he had a few more hours until Bella awake and if he was perfectly honest with himself, he would rather be right where he was than across the hall.
