A/N: Hello everyone! Here's a new fic that I just have to make! A new crossover of RWBY with the old game called Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective!
For those who don't know this game, it was an old DS Puzzle game involving the main character, Sissle, who was mysteriously killed and had no recollection of how and why. He does not even remember who he is, but thanks to his newfound powers called Ghost Trick, the recently turned spirit can use them to solve who he is and unravel a conspiracy that led to his death.
I won't spoil the story for any of you, but if you are interested in playing the game, there is a remastered version to download on consoles and the App Store.
Just to let you know, Sissle won't be the main character of the fic but will play a vital role in helping the OC, which I will add to this new fic.
I hope you will enjoy it!
Chapter 1: Hello Remnant, I'm a ghost!
'I don't know how long it was, but I think I was unconscious…'
'No matter how hard I think, my head feels like it's swimming in a vast sea of darkness…'
'When I realised what was happening, I spotted this body on the ground. I think that's me… I think I died…'
A spotlight suddenly appears, showing a body of a lifeless body on the ground. The body looked like it was a young man close to 20-25 years of age. He had dark hair, and his skin was light dark. His eyes were still open but lifeless but still had the color blue on them. He wore a black coat with a purple shirt underneath, blue jeans and combat boots, but what was more striking was that his shirt was covered in blood, most likely belonging to the corpse and a small hole where his heart was supposed to be.
'I guess this is what I look like? And I think I am a human? Difficult to tell, seeing that there are what I think are cat ears on my head.'
True to what the figure said, the spotlight focused on the top of the corpse's head, showing a pair of ears that looked like it belonged to a black cat.
'Won't lie, this is a bizarre experience for me but not as weird as where my corpse and I are…'
When the spirit says that, the spotlight immediately expands, showing where they are… and it is not pretty.
"EVERYONE RUN!"
"Contact, contact!"
"Someone, please help me!"
"Shoot them down!"
"Look ou–AUGH?!"
"The Grimm are charging this way!"
Everywhere he looked, it was pure pandemonium.
It was night-time, and it seemed he was in a city of sorts. The buildings were destroyed and catching fire, and many people were screaming in terror, running for their lives—the sounds of gunshot sound and slashing noises, and even the sound of wild animals around him.
The monsters in black and white of various shapes and sizes attacked innocent people, and there were also people in white attacking the civilians. Interestingly, they all had multiple animal parts on them, much like his corpse, but you could tell they had more sinister intentions, seeing that their masks matched these monsters.
Finally, he sees soldiers and young people with weapons of some sort that transform into a gun or a different weapon fighting back these monsters and soldiers in white as they try to protect the innocent.
"Just what is going on here?" The spirit said as he looked around in both confusion and fear before slightly jumping and seeing another corpse fall next to his, a young man that seemed to have fatal claw marks on his body and hard describe his appearance due to the fatal injuries and amount of blood and a small puddle of blood was coming out of his body. "This must be a dream! This can't be real…"
"Don't panic!" A voice cuts, snapping the spirit out of his growing tensions. "Because you have the power to help them!"
Before the spirit could reply, the entire world suddenly turned purple, and the surroundings stood still! From the burning fires on collapsing budlings to everyone, including the monsters, they have frozen still except that they all look like light-purplish silhouettes.
The spirit could only look around in shock at such a display. "What… is this?"
"This is the Ghost World, the land of the dead." The voice explained that the young spirit grabbed his head as if he were hearing it directly inside his head.
'Am I… hearing this in my head?' The spirit lets go of his head and looks around, trying to find who this voice belongs to. "Who are you?!"
"Down here." The spirit looks down, and to his surprise, he sees a black kitten wearing a red handkerchief around its neck.
'A kitten?' The spirit blinked in surprise but realised that this cat was just as much a ghost as him. "You're the one who's been talking to me?"
"That's right! I understand you have questions, but you must save that young man's life now!" The kitten insistingly said, making the spirit blink before looking down at the corpse and gasping at the sight of it.
Like the others, it was now a silhouette, except the color was black. He even noticed his corpse but was surprised that his corpse's silhouette was blue, much like certain items and objects in his sight around him but what got his attention was that each of these blue silhouettes, along with his corpse and the boy's next to him was that there were white spots on these silhouettes and what was more interesting was that on his silhouette was a violet flame occupying that spot.
Additionally, something was emanating from his corpse's chest, more specifically, from his bloodstained shirt, much to his confusion.
'What's that all over my chest?' The spirit questioned.
"Something special." The kitten answered, surprising the spirit.
'Did I say that out loud?' The spirit questioned.
"No. But I heard it as clearly as day." The kitten said, surprising the spirit again. "Here in the Ghost World, there are no secrets, so even when you're speaking in your mind, I can hear it."
There are no secrets in the Ghost World. That's interesting.
"See that violet flame? That's your soul." The kitten explained, shocking the spirit.
"My… soul? So I really am dead…" The spirit said, feeling a bit sad about that fact, but then quickly came to a realisation. "Wait. How can I possibly help this kid? I'm dead! And for the matter, he's dead too."
"By using your powers." The kitten explained, but the spirit was just growing more confused, noticing that the kitten continued to explain. "Do you see those white spots? Those are called cores. Try to focus your soul by transferring it into the core of that kid's corpse."
"What? Why? How will that save this kid?" The spirit questioned in confusion.
"Trust me. When you enter his core, you'll see how you can help." The kitten cryptically said.
The spirit could only look sceptically at the kitten, then turned to the boy's corpse. He was questioning if he should do it. Why should he listen to this cat and help this recently deceased boy? But as he thought, something inside him was… compelling him to save him like an urge to do the right thing. He didn't know why, but that feeling felt right to him.
With newfound determination, he turned back to the kitten. "What do I need to do?"
The kitten nodded in approval and then told him exactly what to do. "Just imagine yourself extending your soul from your body and trying to reach that core. In other words, try to possess it."
"Possess it, huh? Now I do feel like a ghost." The spirit chuckled before nodding. He calmed himself as he imagined reaching out to the core. Then suddenly, he felt his soul moving, extending himself, as the soul reached and connected to the core of the boy's corpse.
"Okay. What next?" The spirit asked.
"Now. We use another power of yours." As the kitten said, the spirit could suddenly feel a small surge of energy from his soul when he possessed the core of the boy's corpse. Then suddenly, the spirit found himself inside somewhere where a black and violet swirl could be seen in the background.
"What is this?" The sprite questions in awe and confusion before noticing something floating before him.
It looked like a ball of smoke, but he immediately knew that it was the soul of the boy, meaning the spirit was inside the boy's corpse.
"Hello?" The spirit called, trying to get the boy's attention, but didn't receive any reply.
"Poor kid. He must be unconscious." The kitten said.
"Unconscious?" The spirit said, bewildered that a ghost can be rendered unconscious.
"It's something a lot of the recently deceased go through. I mean, you were unconscious yourself before coming, too, right?"
The spirit thought back about the time he woke up in all of this, then realised that the kitten was right. he was unconscious before realising the state he was currently in.
"Best leave the poor kid be." The spirit suggested, then looked at the kitten for guidance. "Okay. I'm in his body. How will I save him?"
"Now, this is the best part of having Ghost Tricks." The kitten said as its eyes glinted in excitement. "With your powers by possessing a deceased corpse… you can travel back in the past four minutes before this boy's death!"
"WHAT?!" The spirit shouted in disbelief and awe at such a power. The power to go back to the past before this boy's death? That sounded too unreal and too good to be true!
Sensing his doubts, the kitten did not back down and continued to explain the pros and cons. "But naturally, this power can only work on corpses that have been dead less than one day. So you can't use it on those dead for a long time."
Less than one day, huh? I suppose a mighty power does have its limits. But thanks to that, he can save this boy's life now. 'But even so, I still find it hard to believe!'
"Does it matter if it's hard to believe?" The kitten asked, hearing the spirit's thoughts. "What matters is that you have to power change this boy's fate for better or worse."
Changing… Fate? The spirit didn't know why, but hearing that made him feel some emotion in him. Emotions that made him feel things that desperately want him to do what's right. Slowly and surely, his doubts were leaking away, and his determination was rising to do what was right.
Seeing that the spirit looked ready, the kitten asked, "Wanna give it a go? Save this boy's life? The moment you do, you will bear witness to the entire four minutes of how he will die, and after that, you can figure out how to save him."
"How?" The spirit asked for more details.
"I can explain more after we go through the four minutes. But all in all, it's up to you if you want to. All you need to do is simply think: 'Rewind Time.'" The kitten said, making the spirit pause a bit before looking determined to do it.
"Let's do it!" The moment he declared to save the boy, the spirit simply thought, 'Rewind Time!'
And then suddenly, he saw a violet and black clock appear before him as it made a ticking noise like an actual clock. The hands of the clock quickly rewound itself, and then suddenly, he was blinded by a flash of light, and everything turned black.
Four minutes before the boy's death
Four individuals in a crowd were standing together, watching a big screen outdoors in pure shock, horror and disbelief.
"This can't be happening…" One of the four said in disbelief. A young man with dark purple eyes and short black hair that graduated to grey with his hair slicked towards his left. He wears a sleeveless top that graduated from grey to purple scarf, black pants with bronze kneecaps and bronze buckled black belt, a dark purple scarf that wrapped around his right leg and black boots with scudded strap detailing. He also has three black straps, one studded, on his left arm.
"Snap out of it, Brawnz! We need to get our weapons ready!" The only girl out of four said as she picked a white object from our pockets. This girl has light tan skin, dusky rose hair and grey-blue eyes. She wore a red and white hoodie with blue tracksuit pants and a distinctive black beanie that covered her left eye. She also wore a large black scarf and red canvas sneakers.
"May is right. This isn't the time to be panicking." The second boy is said to be trying to be brave but looks troubled. This boy had messy dark red hair and pink eyes. He wears a deep sky-blue jacket with a black hood and rolled-up black sleeves, open over a white shirt with long, rolled-up sleeves. A pair of sunglasses with pink lenses hangs from his collar. He also wears ripped burgundy jeans, black shoes and black finger-less gloves.
Lastly, the final boy of the four quickly shuffled to get his white object, as May was doing. The boy was a dark-skinned man with green eyes and brown hair styled in cornrow dreadlocks tipped in gold clasps. He wore a green vest buckled closed on his left shoulder over a black T-shirt and loose white pants rolled up to his knees. He also wore fingerless gloves, white armour pikes that were the holsters for his weapons, and olive canvas sneakers. "Nolan, just get your Scroll ready. As Huntsman, we need to–!"
Before he could finish his sentence, a loud monstrous growl and something charging were heard behind them. They were horrified to witness what was charging at them as they turned around.
"GRIMM!" One of the civilians next to them shouted in horror as they all began to panic and run, getting the four forcedly bumped by the panicking crowd as they tried to run for their lives.
"Damn–NO! My Scroll!" Nolan panicked as he dropped the white object, now called Scroll, on the ground and was trampled on by the rushing crowd.
"We can't call our weapons like this!" May shouted as she began to panic and tried to move out of the crowd.
"We need to get to an ope–!"
"QAWWWWW!"
"AGHHH!" Before he could finish his sentence, something large flew down and swooped the boy from the group with its claws before flying away.
"NO! ROY!" Brownz shouted in horror, seeing his friend being wisped away by a giant bird monster up into the air away from them.
"We have to–KYAA!" Before May could finish her sentence, she was tackled by a monster with four legs, followed by another who attacked Brownz.
"MAY! BROWNZ!" Nolan shouted in horror while the scene changed to a terrified Roy trying to free himself.
"Let me… GO!" He shouted as he struggled to break free, but he began to shout in pain as the monster's grip was slowly crushing and cutting him.
The boy began to scream in pain while a red light surrounding his body was flickering. But then suddenly, something red was glowing on the boys' belts. Upon closer look, it looked like a red crystal that exploded!
This caused the monster to let go in pain and surprise while, surprisingly, the boy was still in one piece, but the red light surrounding him shattered. The boy himself was unconscious but was falling to the ground fast before just about to crash right next to the spirit's body, but before the crash, everything turned white.
Back in the Ghost World, inside Roy's body
"And that's that! Four minutes before the kid's, I mean, Roy's death." The kitten said while grimacing at the whole thing. "Not going to lie. That was disturbing and a terrible way to go in many ways."
"That's… horrible!" The spirit muttered in horror and sadness. 'No one deserves to die like that…'
"Agreed. Which is why you can help him, them! The kid's lucky that his corpse fell next to you." The kitten said after hearing the spirit's thoughts.
"But how? Can I control stuff when I possess them or something?" The spirit asked.
"I have no idea." The kitten simply said, getting a disbelieving look from the spirit.
"HUH?! What do you mean you don't know?" The spirits questioned the kitten.
"Like I said, I don't know because those who are special like you have different Ghost Trick powers." The kitten answered, getting the spirit's attention and started to think carefully about his feline friend.
"How do you know all this? Just who are you?" The spirits questioned now that his mind was getting clearer.
"Oh! Right, we never properly introduced each other. Time doesn't pass when we are in the Ghost World. We can talk without problems." The kitten said before beginning introductions. "My name is Sissel. It's nice to meet you!"
"…Okay, Sissel. I'm…" The spirit was about to introduce himself before he paused. He then narrowed his eyes and touched his chin while profoundly thinking. "I'm…"
The kitten, now named Sissel, patiently waited while knowing what kind of problem his new friend was going through. He then sees that his new friend widened his eyes, realising what he is going through now.
"I… I don't remember…" The spirit said, much to his growing shock and concern. "I don't remember anything…!"
"I figured that was the case." Sissel said, earning the spirit's attention. "That's normal. When the newly departed wake up after their deaths, they grow confused and forget who they are. Some get them back, some never, but I'm sure yours are coming back slowly."
"I… see." The spirit said, contemplating this new information. 'So I might not get my memories back? But I don't know why I died! Thinking back… those monsters didn't kill my body… it looked like I was stabbed right in the heart. Was I… Murdered?'
Sissel heard all his thoughts and couldn't help but recall a specific event similar to his own from the past.
His death.
The kitten was now slowly beginning to understand that teaching this stranger Ghost Tricks was not a mistake and decided to help him further.
"Maybe you can find the truth by saving the boy."
"Huh?" The spirits said in surprise.
"I don't know the full picture myself, but I have a strong feeling that whoever killed you is still here." Sissel explained. "By changing Roy's fate, you can travel around this place to learn more about what's happening and potentially find out about yourself."
Sissel then begins to explain the powers of Ghost Tricks to the spirit. He explained that those who are special could have more than one ability aside from travelling back and repeating the four minutes till they get right in time, such as possession and manipulating particular objects, travelling through forms of electronic communications, swapping items that need to be in the same shape and even control living bodies against their wills.
The spirit was amazed by all this information and the potential use it could help him with. But there were still some questions he wanted to know.
"How do you know all this? Just who are you, Sissel?" The spirit asked, getting a chuckle from the kitten.
"Well, that's a long story."
Sissel told his story. How he said that he was accidentally killed, how the kitten learned his Ghost Trick powers from another ghost, how his death was connected to a conspiracy that was involved by a meteorite that gave him his powers and how the ghost cat has been using them save many lives as he goes and how his story ended.
Again, the spirit was amazed but confused by one piece of information the ghost kitten had just told him.
"You're from another world?" The spirit sceptically said that out of all the crazy things, that was one he found hard to believe.
Sissel chuckled. "Yup. I would also find it hard to believe if we were in different positions. But with us being ghosts and all, what other choice is there other than to accept it?"
"I… suppose…" The spirit said as he scratched at that fact, but another thought came to him. "Wait. If you can do what I can do… then why didn't you revive me?"
After being asked that question, Sissel was silent for a while, and then he finally answered. "I couldn't."
"Huh?" The spirit bluntly said in confusion.
"Normally, when I see a corpse that was killed off too soon, I would gladly help. However, I couldn't possess your body no matter how I tried, and I couldn't use any of my powers aside from moving my soul to other cores." Sissel explained, earning a confused look from the spirit.
"But why?" The spirit asked, confused about how that was possible.
"My only assumption is that I don't belong in this world, and what's emanating from your corpse is the reason." This earned a gasp from the spirit as he recalled seeing something emanating from his corpse's chest. "My guess is that's what's preventing me from possessing you and changing your fate, and I reckon that's the source of what makes you special."
The spirit tried long and hard to see any logic but couldn't find an answer. "This doesn't explain anything…"
"Maybe. But maybe that's why I'm here." Sissel said, earning a confused look from the spirit. "I kinda freaked out when I first came here, but when I first saw you… I don't know… I felt some sort of connection to you. I just felt like helping you out. And I'm glad I did, seeing that you didn't hesitate to try and help this kid's life."
The spirit couldn't help but feel touched by what Sissel said and hearing that he made the right choice to teach him about Ghost Tricks.
"Is this because I'm part cat?" The spirit joked, making that kitten snicker.
"Maybe." The two laughed at that joke.
"Thank you, Sissel." The ghost kitten nodded in appreciation.
"Don't thank me yet. Let's first save this kid's life! And don't worry about making mistakes; you can repeat them till you get it right!"
"Right! Let's do it!"
The moment he said that a violet hourglass appeared, and the sands from the bottom rewound themselves as the purple sands inside rose back to the top. Then everything turned white
Four minutes before Roy died in the Land of the Living
The spirit was now back where he was, more precisely, four minutes ago, in the past. He realised that it wasn't that chaotic when he first woke up and noticed that his soul was exactly where Roy's corpse was.
"Hey, what? How am I here?" The spirit asked while he turned his surroundings to the Ghost World to freeze time.
"That's just how it is. Roy's corpse is your gateway to travel back to the past, so it stands to reason that your soul will be at the exact location where he originally died." Sissel explained, earning a nod of understanding.
"I see…" The humanoid cat spirit said but then realised a severe fact. "Wait. How am I supposed to save this kid's life if I'm all the way here and he's all the way where he is?"
"Don't panic. I was like that too when I first started." Sissel calmly says to him as he continues to instruct him. "Remember the power of possession and manipulation. Granted, you haven't done it yet, but there is always a first time, so let's hope you also have that power."
"Right, you did say that in your story." The spirit said as he began to recall that Sissle could go to places by possessing cores within his range so he could either travel or manipulate. He then looked at his corpse and thought of something. "I don't suppose it's possible to possess my own corpse to walk there, right?"
"Sorry, buddy, but that's not possible." Sissle apologised. "It's impossible to possess your own corpse, maybe for special conditions, but it's not with your case."
"I figured as much…" The spirit sighed as he recalled another part in Sissel's story regarding a meteor that gave him his powers and how another spirit, Yomiel, who was involved with a murder case, could possess his own body and move it at will thanks to the meteor fragment imbedded in his body making it possible. He then recalled what Sissel said regarding what was emanating from his corpse. Looking closer, he could tell that nothing was embedded in him, not in him, meaning he couldn't possibly do what Yomiel could. That made him think about how he got that stuff on him anyway. That question will have to hold for now.
'Looks like I have to figure something else then, but I don't think there's anything I could–' Before the spirit could finish that thought, he noticed another core close to the opposite side of his body. 'Huh? What's that?'
Sissel, hearing his thoughts, looked at the directions where he was looking and realised he saw a pistol lying next to his friend's corpse.
"A pistol? I think that might have been yours." Sissel said while the spirit looked at it and noticed the barrel lying on top of a rock, making the muzzle point up in the air… exactly where Roy is! And what's more, the pistol has a core on it!
"Look! The pistol is pointing where Roy's location should be." The spirit points out as he begins to think of a plan and recalls another part of Sissel's story, which is that he could possess bullets with cores. "You think I can make this gun shoot a bullet and then possess it to go where Roy is?"
"Sounds like a plan! But you need to be fast. The moment you pull the trigger, that bullet will fly fast, so you need to have a split second to freeze that bullet before it gets away."
'Right… Sissel did say something about a range.' The spirit recalled when Sissel mentioned that ghosts have a specific range to reach particular objects. The spirit could only hope that he has a long one. "Let's get started!"
And without a second thought, the spirit willed himself to transfer his soul towards the pistol. The moment he did, they could immediately tell that the gun was in working order and that one bullet was left inside.
"Yes! It's loaded!" The spirit cheered.
"Alright, buddy! Anytime when you're ready! Just imagine yourself pulling the trigger, and you're good to go! Fortunately, I can see two cores in that single bullet. I'll hitch a ride while you shoot." Sissel cheered as the cat transferred himself to one of the cores, and the spirit began preparing himself while he willed the pistol to shoot.
*BANG!*
The moment the pistol made its shot, the spirit quickly willed his surroundings to the Ghost World, freezing everything in place.
As for the bullet, it was, unfortunately, a great distance from the spirit's corpse.
"Darn! That's far." The spirit grunted, seeing the bullet frozen in mid-air.
"That's unfortunate… It looks like this world's armed weapons have a more kick to them." Sissel comments, noticing that the bullet was much farther than his old friend, Missile's, range. "Oh well, might as well test that range of yours."
The spirit grunted before he willed himself to travel to where the bullet was. Sissle saw that his range was longer than his own and thought his range was about Missile's length. However, before he could say anything, he was shocked that the spirit was still travelling at a greater distance and managed to reach the unoccupied core of the bullet.
"Yes! I made it!" The spirit cheered, leaving Sissel dumbstruck at the sight.
"I don't believe it… Your range is longer than anyone I know off!" Sissel said, surprising the spirit.
"Really? Huh… Is that good?" The spirit asked.
"Very! You don't have to worry much about travelling via short range." The cat ghost chuckled. "Better undo the Ghost World now."
"Right." The spirit nodded, but before he did, he looked towards his body and realised that this might be the last time he would ever see it. 'I don't know how I died and why I got these powers, but what I do know is that I have been given another chance to make things right! I swear… I will solve this mystery!'
Hearing all his thoughts, Sissel can't help but respect his new friend's ambition. And with that, the spirit deactivated the Ghost World, making the bullet they are both on travel into the air with great speed, leaving the two to wonder where the bullet will land, hopefully not on anyone.
However, the bullet ironically aimed at the back of the head of Roy.
"OW!" The soon-to-be-dead boy shouted in pain, startling his team and other people around him and surprising the two ghosts, seeing that the boy was not dead but surprised that the same glow from his body showed as the bullet bounced and hit the ground not so far from him.
"Oh shit! We just hit the kid!" The spirit panicked.
"And he's not dead!" Sissel added. "How is that possible?"
"I think that glowing thing on his body that shielded him…" The spirit deduced while remembering the same phenomenon that happened when the bird monster was crushing him.
"Well… either way, this is good because you altered his fate even by barely now." Sissel said.
"How so?" The spirit wondered as the ghost cat then explained.
"When you change a certain event on someone or something from the original timeline, you managed to alter the fate by a small degree, meaning you created a checkpoint for yourself, so you don't have to worry about repeating at the same spot all over again from the start!"
"Wow! That's convenient." Before the spirit could say anything, he noticed that Roy was rubbing the back of his head and turned around to look at what had just happened, only to widen his eyes in horror to see a large group of monsters charging towards them.
"Grimm incoming!" He shouted, getting the attention of his friends and civilians, making the innocent bystanders scream in panic as they began to run.
However, the four kids, Roy, Brownz, May and Nolan, stayed while avoiding the crowd.
"Everyone, get your Scrolls and a call for your weapons now!" Brownz shouted as they all got their Scrolls and activated them while they did simple commands by tapping the screen. Then suddenly, something rocketed down on the four rectangular objects and landed next to each of them. Then, hatches opened and revealed weapons for them as they all stood in line, behind the rockets, in fighting stances as they readied themselves on the coming monsters known as Grimm.
"Whoa…" The spirit says in awe as he freezes everything in the Ghost World.
"You can say that again…" Sissels says, equally amazed, never seen something like that before. "Looks like hitting Roy in the head made him warn the others of those… Grimm? Yeah, Grimm, to prepare themselves to fight."
"Yeah…" The spirit slowly said, recalling how bad it all went from the original timeline, but thanks to the slight alteration of fate, this current timeline was a far cry from the last.
But before he could say anything else, he looked up and saw the bird Grimm descending on the four, mainly towards Roy.
"Look! it's that bird Grimm!" The spirit shouts, making Sissel look up, seeing the same monster that killed Roy about to do the same thing now.
"Ugly thing not even a cat like me wants to eat." Sissel lightly joked but then turned to his friend with a serious expression. "Okay, buddy, the very thing that kills Roy is moments away from doing the deed, and it looks like he and his friends don't seem to notice."
The spirit turns to the four and notices that Sissel is correct. The four were too focused on the charging Grimm to notice that their rears had been exposed and Roy would be the first to be killed off.
'Darn! What should I do? What can I do to warn them?' The spirit gritted his teeth as he thought hard about what to do. Sissel noticed and then began to give him advice.
"Stay calm and think carefully." The spirit snaps out of his focus and looks towards Sissel. "Remember, you're in the Ghost World. You have plenty of time to think of a plan, and you can always restart from the checkpoint to start again. Just look around you. Right now, this very moment is a puzzle or pattern you can work with. Just try to recall everything you know to make things work."
After hearing his advice, the spirit calmed down and began to take deep breaths. He smiled and nodded at the cat in thanks before looking around. Anything he can use to his advantage to change Roy's fate and his friends.
Then he notices the rockets and sees that each one has a core, but what got his curiosity is that one of the rockets happens to be under where the Grimm bird's direction toward Roy.
'I wonder…' Willing himself from the bullet, he travelled towards the rocket's core and possessed. He could tell how the thing worked and noticed something particular about the rocket.
It was operational for take-off!
"YES!" The spirit cheered, getting the attention of the cat.
"What? What is it?"
"This rocket thing is in working operation and can be used to blast off from where it is! And I can imagine this thing has a powerful punch!" Sizzle blinked a couple of times before looking closer at the rocket and looking up before smirking and seeing where it would be aiming.
"Now, this might work!" The ghost cat says with excitement before giving the go-ahead to his friend. "Go for it!"
The spirit nodded with a smirk as he undoed the Ghost World and began to imagine the rocket activating on its own.
Then, that's when the magic happens.
The rocket that was on the ground suddenly began to ignite its thrusters while, at the same time, the bird Grimm dived down towards its target.
"QAWWWWW!"
This caught the attention of the four, making them turn around, and to their shock and horror, they saw the Grimm diving down at an alarming speed that didn't give them time to dodge the sneak attack.
Which was not needed.
The moment the bird was just under the rocket… the rocket immediately shot off from the ground, stabbing the monster's underbelly and catching it off guard!
"QAW!?" The bird screeched in shock and pain as the rocket's impact forcedly made the bird tumble, making it look like it was summersaults in the air as it uncontrollably passed over the stunned teenagers. At that moment, the spirit activated the Ghost World and transferred himself to Roy's weapon before deactivating it.
They witnessed it crash land on the charging hordes of Grimm, not only crushing a large majority of them as the bird was rolling over them like a ragdoll as the monsters in question were either in pain on the ground or the majority of them just vanished like a speck of dust.
When the bird monster finally stopped, it was lying on its back, and the rocket was still impaled on its belly. The monster groaned in pain as it tried to get up but never got the chance. The rocket exploded, killing it and all the surviving Grimm close to it.
The four teens could only watch gobsmacked disbelief, witnessing all that before their eyes.
"I guess… we don't need to worry about the Grimm for now?" Roy said unsurely, having the others slowly nod in agreement.
As this was happening, two certain spirits were celebrating their success.
"That was awesome!" The spirit cheerfully laughs at the entire scene.
"I know! Not only did you manage to get that bird monster out of the way, but you even wiped out those charging beasts as a bonus!" Sissel laughed happily, never seeing such a glorious chain-reaction! "You know what this means?"
The spirit looked at the cat, wondering what he meant, while Sissel happily smiled. "You have successfully averted Roy's Fate!"
Roy's Fate: Averted!
A strong sense of happiness and accomplishment washes over the spirit before he slowly grows a big smile, realising what he just accomplished.
"Yes! I saved them!" The spirit happily cheered, knowing entirely well that not only Roy wouldn't have a tragic death but also the lives of his friends.
But before he could think of something else, a voice suddenly shouted out, instantly catching his attention and making him turn to look toward the source. Why did he do that? Because that voice sounded familiar.
"Weiss! The explosion came from here!"
"Slow down, Blake! We need to stay together!"
The spirit sees two young girls.
A pale-skinned young woman with pale blue eyes, a scar that vertically runs down on her left eye and face and long white hair that is pulled back into an off0center ponytail on the right side and the other is a fair-skinned young woman with wavy black hair and amber eyes while having a black ribbon tied on top of her head.
Seeing these two girls, the spirit couldn't help but feel a sense of familiarity coming from them.
Sissel noticed that as he looked at the spirit's stunned expression before looking at the two girls who approached the four teens as they began to converse, but he paid no mind to that as he looked back to the spirit in concern.
"You, okay? What's wrong?" The cat asked, but the spirit remained quiet as he stared at the two girls before breaking the silence.
"I… I know these two…" When these words came out of his mouth, words and images rushed to his head, making him flinch.
"I'm sorry, ladies, but this isn't a tourist attraction but a crime scene. I would appreciate it if you girls would, please, leave."
"Oh! Sorry, officer…?"
"Detective. I'm Detective Amethyst Midnight."
The spirit gasped the moment the 'memory' ended. Granted, it was short, but it was enough for himself now!
"I remember…! My name is Amethyst Midnight! A-and I'm a Detective!" The spirit, now named Amethyst, quickly says, knowing at least his name.
"Amethyst, huh? That's a nice name. Good for you!" Sissel said, glad that his friend at least remembered something. "Looks like these two girls jogged your memories."
"Yeah… but not all of it…" Amethyst said but was still thinking about the memory. 'Who did that voice belong to? It didn't belong to these girls.'
"Oh! Looks like these two are about to leave." Sissel points out, snapping Amethyst out of his thoughts, noticing that the two looked ready to leave. "If you want more memories back, I suggest you stick with these two for now."
"Right! Hopefully, they can help me with my memories." And with that, Amethyst quickly possessed the weapon sticking on the back of the girl in the bow, Blake, he remembers, while Sissel follows by possessing Weiss's rapier.
The two girls then run off to who knows where. As they ran, the ghost detective could only have so many questions in his head. What was happening? Why was he killed? Who are these girls, and how do they know him? He can only hope to find the answers he seeks as the two girls begin to fight off the Grimm while simultaneously wondering how he got himself into this mess.
