It was, in Anya's opinion, the closest to perfect a night could get. She and Chili were snuggled up on the couch watching a movie together after Chili had a long day of work and Anya had been out all day. Life was perfect; they were together, and nothing short of Arceus itself could separate them, at least for now.
When the movie was over, Anya snuggled up to Chili, who had an arm draped around her shoulders. The storm that was going on outside served as a nice ambience to the whole scene. But it did worry Anya about when Chili had to go back to the Gym; neither of them had expected it to rain, so he hadn't brought an umbrella or anything when he came over.
Anya looked up at Chili. "Hey, what if you stayed over here tonight? Or at least until the storm passes. Just so you don't have to walk home in that." She smiled at the vest and button up that seemed to be Chili's standard fare.
Chili grinned. "Sounds good to me." They shared a kiss for a few seconds before Anya looked out the window.
"It's really coming down, huh?"
"Yeah… glad we're inside." Chili kissed her again, making Anya laugh. She could see why most of Striaton City's teenage girl population seemed to like him so much. "So we have some time to kill before the storm passes. What do you want to do?"
Anya shrugged. "This sounds kinda weird, but I'm in the mood for eggs. What do you think?"
"Yeah, sounds good." Chili got up, but Anya beat him to the kitchen in her small apartment, almost slipping on the floor in sock feet. When she got up and touched the kitchen counter to signal her victory, Chili was almost on the floor laughing.
Anya's cheeks turned pink, and she cursed her pale coloring. "Shut up!"
Chili tried to speak past his laughter. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you just—" He dissolved into another round of laughter, prompting a shake of the head from his girlfriend.
"You're the worst." Anya opened the egg carton, and Chili took one out. He looked at it, then the ceiling. "Hey, you think if I throw it up there it'll stick?"
It was at that point Anya realized Cilan and Cress were 95% of Chili's impulse control. But she just nodded while waiting for the eggs to fry. She heard a crack behind her, but when she turned around, there was no egg on the ceiling. It had made a perfect arc and hit Chili's face. He had a very similar facial expression to someone who had just eaten a whole lemon, red eyes screwed shut as the egg dripped down his face onto the floor.
Now it was Anya's turn to laugh as Chili got something to get the egg off his face. "Be quiet! I didn't know it was gonna do that!"
"You are—" Anya dissolved into giggles again. "You are such a dork."
Chili just glared at her, trying to hold back a smile as he rubbed his face furiously with a towel. He got the egg off, going to hold Anya from behind, his chin on the top of her head as she got the eggs out of the pan and put them on plates for the two of them. Anya sighed in contentment; even if they were only dating and she knew he'd have to go home tomorrow, she could stay like this forever.
As she handed one plate to Chili and took one for herself, she caught a glimpse of the oven clock and saw it was almost midnight. Chili seemed to realize that too, because he looked at his watch and then outside, where the storm had gotten worse. Anya frowned, "We should probably go to sleep soon… I don't think this storm is gonna pass before tomorrow."
Chili nodded. "I've got the couch."
"No you don't."
"Yes I do."
"Chili, you're not sleeping on my couch."
"Where else is there?"
"You're not taking the couch."
"Yes I am, Anya, there isn't another option."
"You can sleep in my room and I'll take the couch—"
The argument went on for a few more minutes before Chili, tired of it and face flushed red in frustration, finally snapped, "Alright fine, we'll both take the bed,
are you happy?!"
"Yes!" Anya put her plate away and went to her room, Chili going with her. The anger between them quickly dissipated, as it always did, as they got ready for bed. Chili removed his vest, electing to keep the rest of his clothes on as Anya changed into a tank top and shorts. They both got under the blankets on Anya's bed. Something about the action felt much more intimate to Anya than it should have been. Physical affection wasn't a new concept to them; they could barely keep their hands off each other when they were alone, at least for cuddling. Maybe it was just the raging storm outside, or something else entirely, but something was different.
Anya and Chili snuggled up close to stay warm, both of Chili's arms around Anya as her head rested on his shoulder.
"I love you…" Chili mumbled, giving his girlfriend a soft forehead kiss before passing out. Anya was in shock for a minute. It was the first time either of them had said it in their four months of dating. But she smiled and curled up, closing her eyes and giving him a peck on the cheek as the storm raged outside.
"I love you too."
