Back in the real world, Ichigo had stopped screaming in agony. Tessai and Urahara stood in anticipation, ready to confront a hollowfied Ichigo. Suddenly, the entire room began to rumble, the ground shaking violently beneath them.
Ichigo began to break the Ken seal placed upon him, the force of his spiritual energy surging uncontrollably.
"We can't wait any longer, Kisuke! I'm switching to suppression mode!" Tessai shouted, his voice filled with urgency.
He placed two fingers from each hand on the ground, causing a large cloud of dust to form from the impact. "Bakudo No. 99 Version 2 - Ban Kin!!" Tessai incanted.
Large bandages appeared and began to wrap themselves around Ichigo, turning him into a mummy. "First incantation - Shiryu!" Tessai commanded.
Metal needles materialized, pinning the bandages in place. "Second incantation - Hyakurensan!" Tessai continued, his face grim with determination.
Urahara watched with alarm. "What are you doing, Tessai! He'll die if you do that to him!" he exclaimed, his voice laced with desperation.
"I have no choice! I can barely hold him! He must be killed before the change is complete!" Tessai replied, his tone resolute.
"Tessai, no!" Urahara pleaded, but Tessai was unmoved.
"Final Incantation - Ban Kin Ta Ho!" Tessai declared.
A large rectangular prism appeared and began to descend upon Ichigo. Before it could reach him, a nearly hollowfied Ichigo broke free from the Shiryu and Hyakurensan, unleashing a massive explosion of spiritual energy.
KABOOM
The shattered shaft exploded, sending shockwaves throughout the room and blowing much of the fake landscape away. The force of the blast was immense, shaking the foundations of Urahara's underground training area.
From the large dust cloud, a figure rushed out and landed in front of Urahara. Urahara, asked, "Is that you, Kurosaki?"
Emerging from the smoke, Ichigo's hollow mask bore red markings, and his eyes glowed a fierce red. He wore his standard Soul Reaper uniform, but it was wrapped in torn bandages. Ichigo reached for his Zanpakuto on his back. When he pulled it out, it was still broken, with almost none of the blade remaining. Urahara stood still, waiting for Ichigo's next move. However, instead of attacking with his Zanpakuto, Ichigo used the hilt to crack open his mask.
With the mask now cracked, he yanked it off and took a deep breath. "Phew~" he sighed.
Urahara then donned his usual smile and clapped. "Congratulations! You succeeded in becoming a Soul Reaper! Hooray! You passed!"
Suddenly, Ichigo hit Urahara in the eye with his Zanpakuto hilt. "Screw you! You should've been praying I'd never come out of that hole alive because I swore I'd kick your ass if I did!"
Urahara rubbed his eye. "That's perfect. Let's carry that spirit right into objective three, shall we?"
Urahara stood up and faced Ichigo, his usual carefree smile returning. "Objective three has no time limit. All you have to do is knock off my hat with your Zanpakuto."
Suddenly, Ichigo swung his broken Zanpakuto, narrowly grazing the tip of Urahara's hat.
"Not bad. You got pretty close with a broken Zanpakuto," Urahara commented.
Ichigo, cocky, replied, "That's right! And I wasn't even trying. Forget the time limit, I'll finish this in five minutes."
"Is that so?" Urahara said, his tone turning serious.
He began to pull out a sword from his cane, the top of the cane being the hilt. Urahara smirked. "Let's see you do that."
Out from the shattered shaft emerged Tessai. Nothing much about him was damaged, except for his glasses that were slightly cracked. "It seems Kisuke and Kurosaki have begun to fight..." Tessai muttered.
SHUNK
Urahara's blade struck a rock, slicing it in half.
"Not bad, for such a tiny little sword," Ichigo commented.
"Oh, a compliment. How joyous," Urahara responded, swinging his sword carelessly, hitting rocks instead of Ichigo. "Don't expect me to go easy on you!"
"Bring it on!" Ichigo shouted, running away.
Wait! Zanpakutos are the only thing that can injure Soul Reapers and hollows, and that sword came out of his cane. It can't be a Zanpakuto. Then I should be fine even if I'm cut by it, Ichigo thought.
SHUK
Ichigo's shoulder immediately got cut by Urahara's attack just after he concluded Urahara couldn't hurt him.
"You let your guard down. You think this can't be a Zanpakuto because I'm not a Soul Reaper. So you think it won't hurt you to be cut by it? How incredibly naive..." Urahara said.
With a shocked expression, Ichigo took a step back, clinging to his now cut shoulder.
"Awaken..." Urahara commanded.
"What!?" Ichigo exclaimed.
"…Benihime," Urahara finished.
A dazzling radiance enveloped the sword as it underwent a dramatic transformation. The Zanpakuto reshaped itself into a streamlined, medium-length blade. Its hilt was elegantly adorned with intricate black wrappings, curving gracefully at the end. The pommel featured a triple-tiered design, with a crimson tassel swaying gently from its base. Absent was the traditional tsuba; instead, a U-shaped guard extended three inches along the blade, embellished with a delicate floral motif. The guard's base was wrapped in a red string, intricately knotted into a three-looped bow on one side, and adorned with a folded paper charm on the other. The blade's edge was sleek and straight, a bold contrast of black and silver, culminating in a slanted, razor-sharp tip rather than a pointed finish.
"This blade is very much a Zanpakuto," Urahara declared.
Ichigo's eyes widened at the transformation. The sleek blade and its intricate design were a stark contrast to the broken hilt he wielded. Despite his initial bravado, Ichigo's resolve hardened. His broken Zanpakuto had proven insufficient against Urahara's full power, and the realization struck him—this fight was far from over.
