Chancellor Shepard's Office: Day…

"In just under two months, you three have already proven to be a worthwhile investment." Seto voiced to the three boys before him.

Jaden, Kai, and Bastion had individually received PDA messages the morning of the day before the three scheduled duels were to take place. They came from Chancellor Sheppard, informing them Kaiba wished to speak with them. As such, they had each made their way here.

"Beyond your reports, the three of you have shown a willingness to excel as duelist." Seto stated. "Despite not dueling nearly everyone on the island, you have yet to lose Misawa, and that is even without utilizing the deck I have given you."

"Thank you, sir." Bastion nodded. "As for the deck you gave me, I have been taking an extensive amount of time to perfect it. While I have recently finished it, I am awaiting a proper opportunity to test what it has become to its fullest."

"That is good to hear as it lines up with what Kai Delmar and Jaden Yuki achieved." Seto gave a small smile. "All three of you were not content to rest on the decks I gave you. Jaden Yuki, you have done as you said by combining the HEROS I gave you with your own.

A deck was created that not many have overcome. Kai Delmar, you only took three loses before compiling a deck that is yours. After the duels tomorrow, I hope you three continue to prove worthwhile." He then dropped his smile. "I would not simply call this meeting to tell you this."

In the rather short time these three have directly interacted with Seto, not even Jaden would think the blue-eyes user would call a meeting just for that. If he wanted to give them platitudes, a simple email would have sufficed.

"I've called you three here in relation to a report Kai Delmar sent me the night before your school year began." Seto continued before noting how Jaden and Bastion looked at the Obelisk curiously. "Seems he has not informed you two."

"It's unimportant." Kai stated simply.

"If it was important enough to mention to Kaiba, I believe I'd disagree." Bastion stated.

"If something happened, you could tell us." Jaden added.

"It's unimportant." Kai reiterated.

The war challengers user spoke about the possible theories he had surrounding Varris because it served a purpose. He reported to Seto because those cards he'd received were given to him on the island, and he was specifically tasked with reporting anything strange that happened here.

It also got the man investigating in ways Kai couldn't, weather it was due to age and/or money. He told Zane to ensure the older student would teach him. He did not tell anyone else because there was no need to have this weigh on them.

"Delmar, let me tell you something from my personal experience." Seto sat back in his chair. "Over ten years ago, there were plenty of times I tried to go things alone. I faced madmen with dark magic and madmen with light magic.

Repeatedly, going those situations alone was a doomed endeavor. I don't like to admit it, but other people came along to lend their aid. Without them, I wouldn't be here today, and that means you wouldn't be at Duel Academy either as it would not exist."

Kai looked down upon hearing that. "If Varris' declining health and death were the result of some form of magic, no one knew as it seems he went things alone…just as I am attempting to do so now."

It became all too easy to see himself as the one in the hospital bed, and while he didn't have any family left, he could see his friends coming to visit him. He couldn't exactly know how each would react, but they could just as easily feel as crushed as he did.

"There are three reasons why I wanted to come to Duel Academy." Kai finally began. "My brother's final wish was that I attend here to help realize my potential as a duelist."

"His final wish…" Bastion thought, knowing what his friend meant by that.

"The second is I want to one day take on all the best the world has to offer and become the next King of Games." Kai continued. "It stands to reason attending the academy which is seen as the best in the world would only help in that regard."

Kai clamed up at that point, prompting Jaden to speak up. "What was the last reason?"

"The third is my brother died to an illness no doctor could ever define as anything which exist." Kai answered. "I watched every day as he became weaker, with no cure, and was there the moment he passed away.

This illness was pretty much there the second he was found passed out within a park. While at the time I didn't see a correlation, I started thinking of all the anomalies surrounding events ten years ago. Duelist Kingdom and Battle City. Not to mention all those duel monsters appearing.

After hearing of the events that happened here last year, it got me thinking. My brother fell ill roughly within the year before those events which happened on this island. It's a longshot without much evidence, but I suspect my brother might have secretly returned to this island.

I don't know why or how he'd have known, but I theorize he attempted to contend with whatever was behind the events one year ago. He lost and the penalty he was forced to take was a slow death. Essentially, I'm here looking for answers that might not even exist."

"Well, I can understand why you wouldn't have wanted to offload any of that in the beginning." Jaden shrugged his shoulders. "I mean, who would trust people they met that quickly. Even now, I kind of get it since that's some real personal stuff there."

"It was stuff which needed to be addressed because I found something relating to Varris Delmar." Seto stated, immediately drawing Kai's attention. "Kai, did your brother ever mention a house in America?"

"I know he went to America for his career, but he never mention having a house out there." Kai responded, confused.

"He did have a place out in the middle of nowhere before I managed to secure it." Seto informed. "Magic that seemed neither dark nor light was at play, far as the expert I brought with me could determine, and I'd trust his word on this in an instant.

There was something within; however, I'm still having my people go over it. We can talk more about what exactly I found come the break between your first and second year. That said, does the name Yuma Tsukumo mean anything to you, Kai?"

"Yuma Tsukumo?" Kai shook his head. "Can't say that name means anything to me."

"Your brother never once brought him up?" Seto asked.

"No, I got nothing." Kai sighed. "If my theory proves true to any extent, it could mean that house, whatever you found, and this Yuma Tsukumo are somehow intertwined with whatever is potentially behind my brother's passing."

"I see." Seto closed his eyes before sighing himself. "Anyways, you three are now dismissed. Keep vigilant and continue reporting if anything out of the ordinary happens, no matter how mundane you may think it is."

Kai wordlessly departed with a conflicted look about him.

"Right, you got it." Jaden stated.

"We'll keep you informed." Bastion agreed.

The two of them then rushed after their friend.

Seto turned the chair he was in to the window behind him. "Evidence of something seemingly no one left alive knows of is at play. With how the unknown builds, whatever comes from this is seemingly less likely to be anything good."

Hallway

The war challengers user was heading out of the academy when Bastion and Jaden caught up with him.

"Hey, are you okay man?" Jaden asked.

"I thought…" Kai took a deep breath as he didn't turn to look at them. "Back before my brother got sick, I thought we were close. That we didn't have secrets. Even after he passed, and my mind wandered, it was all just theory at the end of the day.

It was an idea that made sense without an ounce of proof. Perhaps, I was living within a contradiction. An explanation with no fact behind it to the point I could believe we were those close brothers I always remembered us being.

Regardless of the validity of my statement, there's physical proof on things my brother hid from all this time. Even though I can understand his mindset, it's the same one Kaiba helped me see I was falling into…I just…"

"Don't hold it in." Bastion reached out and put a hand on his shoulder. "How do you feel?"

"Confused." Kai sighed. "Like I said, I understand my brother. Even now, with the things I didn't know, I can still follow his thought process. At the same time, I feel useless because I never knew why he had to hide things from me. I never noticed anything was wrong either.

"Maybe that was his intention." Jaden reasoned. "He never wanted you caught up in things, so he kept you in the dark."

"I just…" Kai shook his head. "I need time to clear my head. The duels are tomorrow, and I won't let Greg down because my head is cluttered." He turned and started to walk away. "By the way, feel free to tell anyone you want about this, I won't care, just hold off until after the duels."

He then walked off leaving the pair to worry.

Arena: Next Day…

"The first of today's three duels will begin in a few moments! Remember, these are test conditions! The two tag duels of today are sudden suspension matches while the single duel is a sudden career ender."

Kai & Greg, Jaden & Syrus, and Crowler had been escorted to empty rooms throughout the school. Only when their duel was up would they be permitted to enter the arena, and they would be left without any means to see what would be happening in duels prior to their own.

This was to create suspense and lessen the chance someone might draw morale from the prior duel's result. The rest of the school was under no such restrictions. Bastion, Chumley, Alexis, Dimitri, Jasmine, and Mindy all sat together.

"I have to say, these matches are a bit harsh." Bastion stated. "Rumor has it, Vice Chancellor Mokuba arranged all Pro-Duelists for every duel today."

"Despite advocating Crowler gets a second chance, I can't exactly say I feel bad for him if that's the case." Alexis noted.

"Regardless of him, I think the other four will be alright." Mindy stated.

"I hope they are." Jasmine thought.

"Oh, it looks like they're ready." Dimitri stated.

Within another part of the arena, Zane stood by himself. While the older Obelisk was doing as such by choice, Chazz was all alone because no one in Obelisk wanted to sit anywhere near him. The entire Kaiba family, minus Mokuba who was on stage, were set to watch with Sheppard.

"Send out the first accused!"

From that call, Kai and Greg were the first to emerge.

Once they were on stage, Mokuba spoke into his microphone. "With the first accused having arrived, allow me to introduce the first guest duelists for today."

Suddenly, two bald men, one dressed in an orange gi while the other wore green, jumped onto the field before doing back-flips.

While Kai wasn't looking to enter the tag dueling scene after school, he kept up with the best from there. "This is going to be tougher than I thought.'

"The Paradox Brothers!" Mokuba announced.

"Salutations you fools." The orange monk smirked.

"Hope you're ready to duel." The green monk smirked.

"To give a quick rundown to those for those of you unaware, this is one of two pairs who've held a vice grip over the tag dueling scene these last ten years." Mokuba informed. "Para and Dox, one pair on contention for greatest tag duelist in the world."

"Come on." Chumley complained. "This is hardly a fair match up."

"I do believe that is the point." Bastion reasoned. "They are attempting to make brushing what happened under the rug rather difficult on purpose."

"What a lucky turn of events." Chazz just smirked to himself. "That disgrace and slacker are about to get what they deserve."

"Enough with the pleasantries…" Para began.

"Now, on with the duel…" Dox continued.

"We didn't come here to talk."

"We came..."

"To destroy you!" The Paradox Brothers declared to their opponents.

Sheppard looked to Seto. "Mr. Kaiba, don't you think this is a bit much?"

"If Mokuba selected these opponents, then these are the opponents." Seto replied simply.

"Ah well, what harm could it bring?" Sheppard shrugged.

"Alright everyone, it's time to begin the first tag duel." Mokuba proceeded. "Duelists ready yourselves!"

The four of them got into position. "Let's Duel!"

(Greg & Kai (G&K) 8000/Para & Dox (P&D) 8000)

Turn 1: Greg

"Alright, I'm going first." Greg drew. "I'll start with Gladiator Beast's Respite. Now, I shuffle any two Gladiator Beasts from my hand back into my deck before drawing 3 cards. I'll then solidify my hand with Gladiator Proving Ground.

I get to any level 4 or lower Gladiator Beast I wish from my deck to the hand. Now, I'll summon Gladiator Beast Samnite(LV 3/1600/1200)." A bipedal, white saber tooth cat appeared wearing black and green armor. "To finish out my turn, I'll set this card.

Turn 2: Para

"You set your field, now allow me to show you something with a little more yield." Para drew. "First, I discard the monster Shadow Ghoul of the Labyrinth to add any 1 Labyrinth Wall card from my deck to my hand. I chose the field spell Labyrinth Wall Shadow before activating it."

A labyrinth rose around the duelists. "This card's effects are plenty, but the only one that matters now is my ability to play 1 of 3 specific monsters from banishment, my hand, or the deck, within my spell/trap zone. I shall play Sanga of the Thunder as a continuous spell."

"A monster as a continuous spell?" Greg questioned. "Just what kind of deck is this?"

Para merely smirked as he proceeded with his turn. "In exchange for being unable to attack, which doesn't matter this turn anyways, I am now permitted to summon Labyrinth Heavy Tank(LV 7/2400/2400) without tribute." A large tank machine appeared.

"It has an effect similar enough to Zane's Cyber Dragon." Kai declared.

"Aside from that, this monster can also do what Labyrinth Wall Shadow did." Para continued. "Since I control a Labyrinth Wall card, my tank will then be able to destroy any 1 monster my opponent controls."

"I was almost inclined to let that effect go through before you mentioned I'd be losing my monster." Greg stated. "I activate my face down Gladiator Beast War Chariot. Since you activated a monster effect while I control a Gladiator Beast, this card negates and destroys it."

Labyrinth Heavy Tank sparked all over with red electricity before exploding.

"No matter." Para smirked. "I shall set 1 card of my own to end my turn."

Turn 3: Kai

"My move!" Kai declared as he drew.

"Hold that thought for I activate my set Prey of Jirai Gumo(LV 5/2200/100)." Para declared. "I can now special summon this trap as a normal monster." A large, brown insect appeared. "What's more, this card then has an effect for any monster who lines up with his column."

"In a tag duel, as you went after me, it means you're lined up with my columns." Greg reasoned, figuring this trap being in the man's hand was why he'd gone next.

"Exactly." Para smirked. "You forced my hand by depriving me of a monster. Now, this trap will pick up where Heavy Tank left off by destroying your monster." Prey lept forward and destroyed Samnite. "With that, you may proceed Kai Delmar."

"You control a monster while I don't, so I can special summon Heroic Challenger – Assault Halberd(LV 4/1800/300)." A purple armored warrior, wielding a halberd, appeared. "I'll follow it up by normal summoning Heroic Challenger – Spartan(LV 4/1600/1000)."

A beige and gold spartan appeared. "I now construct the overlay network with my two level 4 monsters. Xyz summon Gagaga Cowboy(R 4/O 2/1500/2400) in defense mode." A cowboy with twin guns appeared kneeling before his duelist.

"With this, I disregard the rules on attacking thanks to this monster. Depending on his battle position, I can detach one overlay unit to use one of two effects. When he's in defense position, I can detach one overlay unit to dole out eight hundred life points of damage."

One of Gagaga Cowboy(R 4/O 1/1500/2400)'s overlay units flew into his gun and he fired a spray of bullets at the opposing duelists (G&K 8000/P&D 7200).

"A cheeky little trick…" Para began.

"…though eight hundred life points is hardly more than a pin prick." Dox finished.

"Don't go knocking 800 life points." Kai retorted. "Even in a duel with double the usual amount, it could very well be the deciding factor. Now, I'll set one card to finish out my turn."

Turn 4: Dox

"My turn then!" Dox drew. "To start, I shall activate Foolish Burial Goods which requires I send any 1 spell/trap from my deck to the grave. I choose the spell Riryoku Guardian which can banish itself from the grave to add 1 of three monsters from banishment or my deck to the hand.

Now, I can perform a contact fusion, thanks in no small part to the generosity of my brother." Para nodded in the affirmative. "I banish Sanga of the Thunder from my brother's spell/trap zone along with Suijin and Kazejin from my hand."

"Elements of thunder, water, and wind!" Para spoke up. "Sanga, Suijin, and Kazejin begin!"

Three lights, yellow, blue, and green, appeared on the field.

"Meld your powers in eternal light!" Dox continued. "Show these fools your unstoppable might!"

They flowed into a spiral and combined.

"Fusion summon Gate Guardian Combined(LV 12/3750/3400)." The brother declared as one, and what appeared was a colossal monster comprised of three segments.

"Already they summoned a Level 12?" Bastion asked, shocked.

"Tsk, it's not that impressive a fusion." Yuri noted, prideful in his own proficiency with fusion.

"As the last in the rotation for this turn, Gate Guardian Combined is free to launch an attack at the currently open field of Gregory Evans." Dox declared.

"Not so fast." Kai declared. "I activate my set continuous trap Spiritual Swords of Revealing Light. From here on out, once per turn, I can pay 1000 life points to negate any one attack my opponent makes. I'll do just that now."

"As that card is not targeting combined, it cannot be negated and destroyed by his effect." Dox thought.

Multiple, glowing swords appeared around the monster to keep him in check (G&K 7000/P&D 7200).

"What a lucky break…" Para began.

"…In the end, your life points still ache." Dox finished.

"True, though we managed to avoid 2750 life points worth of damage there." Greg sighed before smiling at Kai. "Good going there."

Kai smiled and gave a thumbs up in return.

"Still, the duel just started…" Para began.

"…Now it is almost done." Dox declared.

"Your demise has already begun!" The pair finished.

Turn 5: Greg

"Alright, back to me!" Greg drew. "I'll play Twin Twisters. By sending one card from my hand to the grave, this spell can target and destroy up to 2 spell/traps on the field. Prey of Jirai Gumo still counts as a trap, and I'll remove your field spell with it."

A twister blew through Para's field, leaving him defenseless. "I have no more cards on my field."

"That's about to be a real problem as I'll summon Gladiator Beast Andal(LV 4/1900/1500)." A bipedal black bear in blue armor appeared with a roar. "Now that you're wide open, Andal will attack you directly."

Andal rushed forward and slashed through the defenseless brother (G&K 7000/P&D 5300).

"Alright, there's some significant damage." Chumley cheered.

"It was a good move, one I'm not certain Greg was aware he truly made." Bastion noted.

"What are you talking about?" Mindy asked.

"Labyrinth Wall Shadow is one tricky field spell." Bastion informed. "Among the effect we saw, only Level 5 or higher monsters can attack the turn they are summoned. Not to mention entering the Battle Phase would have permitted Para to destroy a monster with less than 1600 ATK."

"That would have meant the destruction of Gagaga Cowboy." Dimitri noted.

"Let's say Greg got out a proper monster to bypass the attack restriction, I'm afraid it'd only have been worse." Bastion continued. "With a Labyrinth Wall card on the field, Para could have then banished Shadow Ghoul of the Labyrinth to destroy the attacking monster."

"Whoa." Jasmine was stunned. "By simply wanting to destroy that trap in his way, Greg ended up sparing his team a lot of trouble."

"There's nothing more I can do now, so I'll end my turn." Greg stated.

Turn 6: Para

"You've made a smart move; however, let us see how it fairs." Para drew and smirked. "While I cannot attack with my brother's monster, it is still considered well within my control to utilize an effect of a card you two have only seen the graveyard effect of.

I activate Riryoku Guardian. As our life points are now lower than yours, I can target 1 monster with Gate Guardian in its original name. Now, your life points shall be halved, and the targeted monster will gain a permanent ATK boost equal to what is lost."

Green energy flowed from Kai and Greg into Gate Guardian's Combined(LV 12/7250/3400 effect) (G&K 3500/P&D 5300).

"There's a card that can just do that!?" Mindy exclaimed, stunned.

Everyone else with her was equally shocked by the outcome.

"Given what its graveyard effect is, that is one seriously dangerous spell." Alexis voiced.

"Now, I shall set one monster and one card before ending my turn." Para declared.

"That monster's ATK is massive, but it's not impossible to overcome." Kai drew and looked at his hand before looking at Greg. "I just hope he catches onto what we need because with these cards in hand, I can't pull this off alone."

Greg met Kai's gaze and noted how firmly it was on him. "If I'm right, given the situation, what Kai needs from me is a level four monster." He looked to Andal. "I already got this guy on the field, but we likely need the other parts of that combo?"

Turn 7: Kai

"Here goes nothing!" Kai drew.

"I now reveal my face down Battle Mania." Para declared. "Now, all face up monsters you control are switch to ATK mode, cannot change battle position this turn, and you must attack this turn if able."

Kai grunted as Cowboy shifted positions. "Given there's no way I'm attacking Gate Guardian Combined, I'll target your set monster; however, I'm not about to take damage from some high defense monster.

That is why I use Gagaga Cowboy(R 4/O 0/1500/2400)'s remaining unit. If this card attacks this turn, he'll gain 1000 ATK while your monster will lose 500 ATK during the damage step only. Cowboy will now attack your set monster Para."

Para grinned as his Stone Statue of the Aztecs(LV 4/300/2000), a green statue, was flipped into face up defense. "The monster you are battling against doubles any battle damage you take when attacking this monster.

While that may not seem like it matters in the face of your monster's effect, the card I had intended on using will still see you decked. As a defense position monster I control was attacked, I can discard Stronghold Guardian to grant it 1500 DEF until the End Phase."

Gagaga Cowboy(R 4/O 0/2500/2400 effect)

Stone Statue of the Aztecs(LV 4/0/3500)

As Cowboy fired on the opposing Stone Statue, the bullets were absorbed before a wave of energy washed over the field (G&K 1500/P&D 5300).

Gagaga Cowboy(R 4/O 0/1500/2400 effect)

All their friends in the stands breathed a sigh of relief.

"Good thing Cowboy has two different effects; otherwise, that'd have been the end." Dimitri stated relieved.

"Now in Main Phase 2, I summon War Rock Fortia(LV 4/1700/1700)." Kai declared as a young man with white hair and leather armor appeared. "I'll then set one card to round out my turn."

Turn 8: Dox

"My turn!" Dox drew. "I shall summon my Jirai Gumo(LV 4/2200/100)." Another large brown insect appeared."

"I activate the effect of my face down Karma Cut." Kai countered. "By discarding one card from my hand, I can target any one card you control, banish it, and banish any monsters with that same name from your deck. I target Jirai Gumo."

Beyond knowing what Gate Guardian Combined's protection effect was, keeping that fusion on the field was necessary to pull off what they were working towards. Jirai Gumo was swallowed by a worm hole, leaving Dox with one monster yet again.

"Very well, I shall merely attack your Gagaga Cowboy and force you to use your swords." Dox declared.

"Use my swords I will." Kai declared. "I give up one thousand of our life points to negate that attack." Kai stated.

Once again, glowing swords appeared around Gate Guardian Combined, keeping him contained (G&K 500/P&D 5300).

"They're in trouble now." Naomi stated.

"Seems that way." Kisara agreed.

"With that, I shall end my turn." Dox stated.

Turn 9: Greg

"I draw!" Greg nodded at what he got. "I activate Reload, forcing me to return what's left in my hand and shuffle my deck. Now, I get to draw the same number of cards I ended up shuffling, which was two." He drew before smirking. "I set two cards and end my turn."

"It looks like this is their last gasp…" Para declared.

"…This was simple no victory of theirs to grasp." Dox finished.

"Say what you will." Greg retorted. "No matter what happens on Para's next turn, I'm confident we'll survive to see Kai's turn." He looked at his partner with a smile. "Then, it all ends."

Kai understood as he nodded. "It certainly will."

Turn 10: Para

"We shall see." Para drew.

"I activate my first set card, Threatening Roar." Greg interrupted. "Now, you may not declare an attack this turn."

"It appears you were right as you get to see your partner's next turn." Para declared. "Given our life points, there is no need for concern."

"I wouldn't be so sure about that." Kai drew, added the card to his hand, and exchanged it for another. "I summon Heroic Challenger – Night Watchman(LV 4/1200/1000)." A leather armored, blue caped warrior appeared.

"Thanks to my partner, I can now construct the overlay network with three level 4 monsters." Andal, Night Watchman, and Fortia all entered a wormhole. "Time to step into the ring. I Xyz summon Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus(R 4/O 3/2500/2000)."

Even though it had far less ATK than the brother's fusion, the audience still marveled as Kai busted out the yellow and gold warrior.

"A fine creature, but it is far too weak to bust their Guardian." Bastion noted, worriedly.

"Nah, they got this." Jasmine declared confidently.

All her worry evaporated as she recognized that look in Kai's eye. She'd seen it first hand during their duel.

Dimitri hadn't seen that same look, the duel he'd had with Kai was a whole other beast, but he was confident in his best friend. "Yeah, he summoned that monster with a purpose. They got a plan in motion."

"An impressive move, but it is useless boy…" Para began.

"Gate Guardian Combine is simply too much while he is deployed." Dox continued.

"I'd suggest you close your mouths until the end…" Kai declared with a grin.

"…Get ready for a killer combo you won't comprehend." Greg added.

"Number 105 will attack Gate Guardian Combined with Stardust Impact!" Kai declared.

Star Cestus gave off a bombardment of lights which rushed at the fusion.

"I now activate my last face down, Ghost from the Past." Greg declared. "By banishing two monsters from my grave, I can target any 1 attack position monster on the field and change their ATK to 0 this turn. I banish my Samnite and Kai's Assault Halberd.

"Reducing Guardian's ATK to 0 won't win you this duel." Dox declared. "Even if it would, up to thrice per turn, this monster can negate any effect that targets him. He then destroys the card that effect comes from."

"Good to know, but I'm not targeting your monster." Greg grinned. "My target is Kai's Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus(R 4/O 3/0/2000 effect)."

The brothers and almost everyone in the audience were stunned by this turn of events.

Chazz was grinning. "Looks like they genuinely want to lose in the most embarrassing way."

"Those two have lost it." Yuri sighed.

"Pay better attention." Seto crossed his arms with a smirk. "Those two know exactly what they're doing."

"I now detach one overlay unit from Number 105: Battlin' Boxer Star Cestus(R 4/O 2/0/2000 effect)." Kai declared. "During the Battle Step, if a Battlin' Boxer battles an opponent's monster, their effects are negated until the end of the turn, no targeting required.

While that isn't exactly helpful here, it's only one small part of the effect. Now, in this battle the monster I control can't be destroyed. Additionally, every life point I'd have taken as damage is instead inflicted to you!"

"As your partner zeroed out his ATK, that's a full 7250 life points worth of damage!" Para & Dox exclaimed.

The lights washed over the fusion, going around it to then impact the brother and deplete their life points (G&K 500/P&D 0). Para and Dox collapsed to their knees in disbelief as the monsters and cards on the field faded.

"That was great you two!" Chumley cheered.

"I'll say!" Dimitri laughed happily.

"My, what an impressive way to end a duel." Bastion stated.

"That really was something else." Jasmine stated.

The rest of the group were just as willing to celebrate such a come from behind victory.

"I think I was on the edge of my seat the whole time." Kisara stated.

"An unconventional method, though certainly one which works." Naomi commented.

Yuri nodded. "Can't say I saw dueling like that back at the orphanage."

Chazz growled as he kicked the seat ahead of him. "Dang it!"

Kai approached his tag partner before holding up a fist with a small smile. The gladiator beast user grinned as he gave the war challengers user a fist bump.

Again, not something I have a problem with; however, it generally seems like this section of the story goes primarily one way...provided you decide to have Jaden and Syrus duel as well as your oc. Generally, I tend to see Jaden and Syrus still duel Para and Dox while the oc gets the new people. As such, I decided to switch that aspect. Given in this story Para and Dox are only one of two top tier tag duelists teams, you can imagine the second pair is who Jaden and Syrus will duel.

Bit Extra: I'd just like to point out, if you pay attention to next chapter, two tidbits of set up for the future will be planted pretty much at the same section within that chapter. One will be a more immediate set up to at some point impact a certain, later plot point of season 1 while the second will be more of that long range set up I've been doing these past chapters.

Marcusjevans20 (Ch. 1): Utopia was Xyz summoned using Extra Sword. Extra Sword grants any Xyz made with it a permant 1000 ATK so long as that monster remains face up on the field. Double or Nothing doubles the current, not original, ATK of the monster. Utopia's current ATK, at the time, was 3500. 3500 + 3500 = 7000 ATK. Unfortunately, Chazz does not keep a single life point in this instance.

The Duelist of Dawn (Ch. 15): Well, they're suspension duels here, with Crowler's job being on the line in his own. Yeah, Zane got a prompt lesson.

The Duelist of Dawn (Ch. 16): Oh yeah, no. Crowler, at this point, has no more chances. If he ends up winning his duel, he'll need to be on his absolute best behavior. Then Chazz...he's messing with a guy who now all he has is his friends. All Kai had really before this was his brother, he lost that, and now he's only got this group of people he's been surrounding himself with. Chazz decided to push the only button which matters. Yeah, Chumley's dueled enough to be more competant.

barryc10: Eh, maybe in the future I'll change my mind, but Link monsters aren't in the cards right now. That said, I'm obviously setting up some Arc-V dimensional stuff, so perhaps the Link Dimension will play a part. As for Yugi's deck, aside from him always going into a duel with forty cards, he's pretty much got all the modern support on hand. He can shift around his deck and extra deck endlessly, Both his level 7 Xyz magicians are no exception. That said, I got something else in mind for the tour episodes.

MerlockVonBaron: We've already discussed this, but to let other people know...Gregory Evans is an OC given to me by another user. I'm not opposed to adding them to this story. Of course, I'm going to do it in a way that makes sense, but still not opposed to it. To let all you know, the user who asked this has given me an OC who is set to appear now further down the line as well.

Threebranch: Chumley's future obviously doesn't lie in being a pro-duelist, but I do feel bad the guy never got at least one win. I think any yugioh character with screen time deserves at bear minimum one win. As for who will utilize Lightsworns, you are correct. A Maden in Love deck, unless I decide to give it support, is not going to keep up with the decks now. Not to mention Blair dumps the deck after her initial episode anyways, so I might as well just give her a permanent, better deck now.

Vital Info: It certainly gives a more valid reason as to why this academy is on an island with an active volcano. Oh man, after Chazz leaves that's when things really start to open up. There are so many duels the other characters can have. As for 4000 ATK being enough to win, I think your then referring to Duel Monsters specifically because Gx has Zane. He's all about Cyber End Dragon, 8000 ATK and sometimes 16,000 go brrrrr. As for Ryuga, there's one man who can seemingly hide his going ons from Seto entirely. This man has already made contact with Ryuga and Seto is none the wiser, as such there is nothing to mention at this time.
