Today was Wednesday, two days after her first Music class. Marceline had three more textbooks than usual in her backpack. Walking to her first class, she was planning out her course of action on how to give them back.
'Ok, there's no way she's going to be there yet. I'm just going to put them on her desk and that'll be the end of it.' Marceline had arrived half an hour early so she didn't have to speak to Bonnie about the books and seem like a creep. She'd just place them on her desk and walk out of the classroom and it'd be a mystery as to who returned them. She stepped into the class and her breath hitched in her throat. There she was, at her desk reading something on her phone. 'Why is she here so early?' Marceline thought, almost angrily but not quite. 'Well I guess I'm just going to have to do it…"
She walked up to Bonnie's desk awkwardly and took her backpack off her back. Bonnie looked up from her phone with confusion in her eyes.
Marceline's heart was beating hard as she pushed out "uhh…" She unzipped her bag, holding eye contact with Bonnie, whose face was quickly going from confusion to fear.
"What are you-" Bonnie said, her eyes widening until Marceline pulled one of the textbooks from her bag.
"I um… I saw that you um. Dropped these the other day." she placed the book on Bonnie's desk. Bonnie reached out for the book as she gave Marceline the most beautiful smile she had ever seen. Marceline's cheeks turned bright red as she pulled the other two books out for her.
"Oh my God! Thank you so much! I've been freaking out!" Bonnie stood up and gave Marceline a tight hug that gave her butterflies. She immediatley turned back to her desk and inspected the damage. "Where did you find these?"
Marceline was still reeling from the hug. "Uh I was watching you, no I wasn't watching you, I SAW you in the parking lot and they fell off your car I guess."
"Ugh. That makes sense I've been so stressed, I signed up for too many classes." she pushed her hair back with exasperation and turned back to face Marceline and held out her hand "I'm Bonnibel Baker by the way." Marceline smiled.
'God, she's adorable' She thought, then quickly cleared her throat. She shouldn't be having these thoughts, she was with Ash. "I'm Marceline Abadeer, it's nice to meet you Bonnibel." She shook her hand and flashed her a smile. She thought she saw Bonnibel stare at her lips for a moment, but she couldn't be sure. Another music student walked in and found their seat. "Well, I guess I'll see you later. Have a good day!" She cringed at her own words. She wasn't even going to be ten feet away from the girl. Why would she need to say that?
"Yeah, see you Marceline." Bonnibel smiled wryly and sat back down.
Bonnie's friend Jake walked in and sat in his usual spot placing his instrument case on his desk. Marceline couldn't help but eavesdrop."Hey Bonnie! What's got you all smiley?"
"That girl back there found the books I was freaking out about! She really saved my ass." Jake looked back to see Marceline, who was pretending not to hear their conversation. Jake smiled and whispered something to Bonnibel, which caused her to blush, smack his shoulder and whisper-shout back at him "Jake shut up!"
He grinned and wiggled his eyebrows. "Am i wrong?"
Bonnie rolled her eyes in response with a soft smile still on her face "Sure, Jake. Isn't Finn supposed to be in this class with us?"
"Yeah, he missed the first class cuz he slept in. I don't know where he is today though." Jake glanced at the door.
"That kid… is definitely something else." Jake nodded with a small snort.
"I'm sure he'll be in soon. Hopefully."
Marceline chuckled to herself. This Finn character sounds like he'd make her class even more interesting. She looked around the classroom to see where he could possibly sit, noticing there were only three spots left. One across the room directly in front of the professor's desk, one in between two very aggressive looking women, and the last one was seated directly to her right. Well, it seemed like Finn really would make her class more interesting.
Mr. K entered the classroom, "Good morning class! Today we're going to start with a quick history lesson!" Mr. K opened up a PowerPoint presentation of ancient instruments found by archeologists. Marceline usually wasn't the biggest fan of history, she was sick of only learning the most sugar-coated versions of it. However, learning about past versions of musicians like herself always interested her.
Halfway through the slide about the lute the classroom door opened. A young looking boy with blonde surfer-style hair under a well-loved white baseball hat. He stood in the doorway, scanning the seats in the classroom. His eyes settled on the seat next to Marceline. He nodded at Jake with a closed smile and walked over to his new seat where he sat in silence for the rest of the lesson.
After Mr. K dismissed the class the boy Marceline assumed to be Finn stood up and held his hand out towards her. "Hi, I'm Finn!" Marceline smiled back, amused by his boldness and shook his hand.
"Marceline"
Finn smiled brightly, revealing a missing tooth right between his front two and canine which somehow made him even more endearing. "Good to meet you! What'd I miss Monday?"
"Nothing really, we just went over the syllabus. Mr. K said there's a copy on the class website if you want it." Marceline stood up and put her backpack on.
"Nah I'm good, I like to live life on the edge." He laughed a little and Marceline smiled. "Well, see you next class!
"Yeah, as long as you make it here next time."
Finn gave her the middle finger with a smile then playfully wrapped his arms around Bonnie and Jake's shoulders, leaving the classroom. Marceline followed shortly after.
