Chapter 131 Minds Of Maidens
"Only truly intelligent individuals can make the right decision!" As soon as Malfoy finished his words, a shrill voice was heard from within the Ravenclaw crowd.
Evan's heart was touched. Of all the people he knew, only one would speak like this.
He saw a beautiful girl with disheveled waist-length blonde hair emerging from the crowd. She was clad in Ravenclaw robes and sported a pair of striking radish earrings, along with an indescribably eccentric temperament.
It was Luna!
She didn't approach Professor Lupin like the others before her but walked up to Evan and gazed at him with her wide eyes.
Her silver-grey pupil bestowed upon her a mysterious air of serenity.
Evan was taken aback, unsure of what to expect from her before him. After over a year of acquaintance, he felt truly familiar with Luna, yet he could never quite guess what this beautiful girl was thinking.
Unlike ordinary wizards, Luna had always held many eccentric beliefs. She always saw things differently from others. That made her so unpredictable.
"Intelligence is humankind's greatest asset! Evan, I want to tell you that you are the wisest wizard I have met, that's why I believe in what you said," Luna said sincerely. "I believe in you, and I believe in Professor Lupin."
"Thank you!" Suddenly, Evan felt uncomfortable sensing Luna's unprecedented trust.
"My mother used to say that often, only a few know the truth," Luna continued. "There are some truths that many can't grasp in their entire lives. People are easily misled by appearances and often overlook the most important essence. Just like how most people believe that the Hopping Pot or the Crumple-Horned Snorkack don't exist."
"That's because they're fictional," Malfoy remarked, looking at Evan and Luna disdainfully. "Great, now you've gained the trust of that lunatic!"
Evan had no time to deal with Malfoy, as Luna suddenly reached out and embraced him.
His eyes widened feeling her softness; he knew his face must be completely red.
Luna seemed to have a misconception. When a Gryffindor embraced Professor Lupin, they would usually loudly declare their trust in him.
Perhaps she believed that by trusting someone, she must hug them.
So she hugged Evan, leaving him thoroughly embarrassed. He didn't know how to explain to her that she actually didn't need to do that.
Fortunately, Luna's expression showed nothing out of the ordinary. It was as if what she had just done was trivial. She hugged Evan and then turned to Professor Lupin, gazing at him intently in his werewolf form. There was no fear on her face, only curiosity.
Under the girl's gaze, Lupin trembled slightly.
He bent down as he did with Gryffindor students for Luna to hug him.
But she didn't. In fact, she reached out and gently stroked Professor Lupin's head. She seemed to view the werewolf as a cute puppy.
Although Luna appeared crazy, she was the only non-Gryffindor young witch willing to trust Evan and Professor Lupin.
After a brief silence, just when Evan thought everything was over, another girl emerged from the Ravenclaw crowd.
She bit her lip and blushed as she looked at Evan.
Like Luna, she seemed to believe in Evan, who trusted Professor Lupin.
She had black, wavy hair, and her temperament was in stark contrast to Luna's. She lacked her serene disposition but exuded an elegant beauty. With her faint smile, she was quite comforting.
Cho Chang emerged from the crowd. She shot Evan a sly glance, her face flushed. He had no idea what she was thinking.
Upon seeing her expression, Hermione immediately felt an inexplicable hostility.
Her feminine instinct told her that Evan was fond of Cho, and she remembered that this morning he had been invited to Madame Puddifoot's Tea Shop.
She turned around and saw Evan and Harry gazing at Cho.
Hermione had to acknowledge that Cho was truly beautiful. She must be the type who captivates all the boys.
Compared to her, Hermione felt far less beautiful. Anxiety started creeping in. If she were Evan, would she too choose Cho...
Even though the current situation was grim, she couldn't shake off these thoughts.
Evan had no clue about what was going through Hermione's mind, but he was aware that she seemed different.
She didn't look the same when Cho entered.
Evan understood that girls' minds are too intricate to unravel. As unpredictable as the weather, sometimes they beam like a sunny day, and the next moment, they darken like the cloudiest winter days.
Ultimately, he didn't know what mistake he had made.
And not only Hermione. On the other hand, Cho Chang's behavior also tormented him.
Looking at her, it seemed as if she also wanted to embrace him, like Luna!
Luna's embrace was more than enough for Evan. If Cho were to embrace him again, he didn't know what Hermione would think.
Furthermore, Professor Lupin should be the center of attention here.
But if Cho really did approach him, he had no idea how to turn her away.
After all, when a normal guy is approached by a girl to embrace him, how is he expected to say no?!
In truth, she was as perplexed as Evan. She hesitated to come closer, but ultimately decided against it.
Unlike Luna, she didn't just hold Evan in esteem. To her, a hug signifies more than trust.
From her perspective, embracing a boy in front of all the students in the school sounds even more daunting than hugging a werewolf.
She sighed and abandoned the idea. Swiftly, she moved forward and embraced Professor Lupin, whispering a few words in his ear.
Seeing that she didn't draw near, Evan felt relieved.
Following Cho Chang, Percy's girlfriend Penelope Clearwater, and Cedric Diggory from Hufflepuff also approached to embrace Professor Lupin.
Both were leaders of their respective Houses: Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff. Following their lead, more and more young wizards and witches came forward to embrace and comfort Professor Lupin.
Observing the long line in front of him, Lupin was exceedingly pleased. Since becoming a werewolf, he never imagined he would receive so much trust.
Simultaneously, a sense of guilt and remorse seized his heart.
He knew he had to leave Hogwarts. He was unworthy of unconditional trust. If it weren't for the Polyjuice Potion, he would probably end up biting any one of them after transforming. He should never permit that to happen.
With so many people choosing to confide in him, Lupin felt an unprecedented contentment.
However, a werewolf is doomed to be alone and destined to live on the fringes of society.
