Spinelli stared at Arnold, mostly in shock. She wanted to yell yes, but she mostly kept her composure.
"Well, I knew this wasn't of your taste…. Ugh, why did I even ask." Arnold hung his head as he let go of her hand. "No, wait!" Spinelli reached for his hand. "I do want to go on a date with you." She smiled.
"Wait really?" Arnold then looked over.
"Of course I do! Look, no words can really explain how I feel… All I want is just to go on a date. With you. I know you and I have been through a lot not just now, but back then as well, and I think it's only fair if we go on a date together." Spinelli smiled.
Arnold smiled as well. "Well, tomorrow night. I'd say we gotta get you something a little more… appropriate for a date." Arnold lightly smirked. "You know, I had this one blue dress as a girl, and let me tell you now, you'd definitely drool over it."
"Oh, really?"
"Hundred percent." She smirked.
Arnold's phone soon rang. It was Travis.
"What could be going on now?" Arnold answered the phone. "Whaddup, Travis?"
"Yo, Arnold. Remember about that lousy Captain from B shift?"
"Yeah, I know he's filling in for me in the meantime. What about him?"
"He left the door open to the Engine and some druggie stole meds from the ambulance while treating a patient… And that asshole druggie stole the truck. He didn't go far as it collided with a semi-truck. Gas leaked from the Engine and a single spark ignited it and blew up the damn truck…"
"What?!" Arnold and Spinelli exclaimed. "Travis, are you serious?!"
"I hate to say it but… dead serious. Oh, and that drugged moron died as well. The windshield shattered all over his face and it mostly pierced his entire face, including his eyes. He bled out."
Arnold and Spinelli looked at each other in slight disgust. "We didn't need to know that…" Spinelli replied.
"Yeeaaahh… Well, I thought I'd let you guys know what occurred today. So in short, we have no fuckin' Engine anymore 'cause of a drugged idiot."
Arnold and Spinelli looked at each other in shock.
"So that means… The honorary badge that was on there is also…"
"Gone. McShay's tribute badge is gone. Only two remain on the Ladder and Ambulance."
The two only shook their heads. "Travis, we'll be dropping by tomorrow. I don't think I even believe this shit…"
"I swear, Spinelli. The Engine is literally gone."
"So what now?" Arnold asked. "Until the Department builds a new Engine, they're sending in a reserve truck. Should probably be here within the next couple of days."
"We'll see you then, Montgomery." Arnold hung up the phone. He then looked at Spinelli. She was lost for words.
"Are they for real, or trying to mess with us on our days off?" She asked. "He sounded pretty serious. So I doubt it was a joke or anything." Arnold replied.
"So what now?"
"Well… We lost a part of our Captain's memory, but I guess we move forward." Arnold shrugged. "About my clothes for our date tomorrow night?" Spinelli lightly smirked.
"I think we'll do it differently here. I want you to surprise me! Here's my card, and I want you to surprise me for our date tomorrow."
"Surprised you still have lots of money despite being cut off from your former in-laws." Spinelli added. "Yeah well, I can't say much about it." Arnold shrugged after he handed her his card. "Plenty of money in it. Just don't waste all of it." Arnold smirked.
"Like I'm one of those girls who just want money." Spinelli rolled her eyes. "I'll see you in an hour." Spinelli kissed Arnold's cheek and soon left.
"Could really use an ice-cold soda right about now. Why did I think buying a six-pack of beer was a good idea?" Arnold facepalmed. He then had an idea.
"That should be fun." Arnold had a devious look. "Just gotta check on Andy first."
Two Minutes Later
"That's my little girl! Who's the most beautiful Princess in this world? You are!" Arnold toyed with Andrea as he gave several kisses on her forehead. "I wonder whether getting a pet is a good idea or not… Boy, I kinda wish Phoebe was still here to see what she would think." Arnold then heard the doorbell ring. "Who could that be?" He went to check the front door.
Arnold opened the door to find his best friends, Donovan, Montgomery, and Gerald.
"Woah! We caught you at a bad time?" Donovan asked as he saw Arnold with his daughter in his arms. "Not at all. I was just playing around with her. Come on in!"
The three stepped in.
"Even though you got cut off from your former parents-in-law, I'm still amazed at how you have this amazing house!" Montgomery said. "Yeah well… I haven't seen the last of them…" Arnold faced away with his child.
The three looked at Arnold in concern. "And exactly how?" Gerald asked.
"They're trying to squeeze back into my life."
"And is that good or…" Donovan started. "Bad. More than bad, freakin' terrible! And I'm not saying what I want 'cause I'm having a child with a bad mouth! So you three better watch yourselves."
They all nodded. "But about your parent situation… Your Mom is our Battalion Chief so it's a little rare for her to see you, right?" Travis started.
"Yeah."
"And so now your former in-laws are wanting to come back. But what for? They ruined your life as it is, and now they're wanting to come back in like nothing happened? I mean, in what freakin' world does that make sense?!"
"You do have a point. They made a joke of gifting me a box full of air holes and it contained a stuffed animal. Later a German Shepherd appeared which was the real gift. It looked to be a few months old." Arnold replied. "Well, that's one way to be rude yet at least polite." Gerald shrugged.
"I mainly shoved them off because you know what they did! They ruined my life, harassed me, and never left me alone after Rhonda's death." Arnold then looked at Andy. "And ever since, I feel like Andy here is having to grow up without a mother…" Arnold tickled her stomach to make her laugh.
"Again Arnold, we're deeply sorry for what happened that night." Donovan looked over.
"Nothing's erasing what happened that night. Nothing."
"Anything new with Spinelli? I know you two live together so I may as well ask since I don't… see her here." Gerald asked as he looked around. "Believe it or not, she's clothes shopping. Not sure for what but I'll soon see what she's up to."
"Spinelli? Clothes shoppin'? No way. If that is true, I need a beer then." Gerald replied. "Beers in the fridge. The kitchens over there." Arnold pointed. "Get me a water bottle, will ya?"
"Water bottles in the fridge?"
"No, near it."
"I'll just have a water bottle as well." Travis replied. "Get me a beer." Donovan said.
Shortly after, Gerald came back with the water and beer.
"I forgot to mention to you guys, Spinelli's parents are wanting to visit her."
"What?! Haven't they been gone for almost half her life?" Gerald asked in surprise. "I believe so. If anything, I have no clue whether that's either a good thing or a bad thing."
As Arnold continued, Spinelli was with a friend who was all about fashion. A different friend since Rhonda was no longer around.
"A dress that reveals half my back?! Nuh-uh!" Spinelli crossed her arms. "I'm telling you, Spin, this is one of the perfect dresses if you want to impress your man!" Her blonde-haired friend said.
"Ashley, no way! And Arnold isn't my boyfriend or anything, we're just close friends! That's all!" Spinelli blushed a little. "That blush tells a whole different story." Ashley A smirked.
"Pff. I don't know what you're on about!" Spinelli's blush grew more as Ashley A raised an eyebrow. "I still don't know what you're looking at!" Spinelli kept her arms crossed as her blush grew.
"Spinelli, do you have something to say, or are you keeping it cooped up?" Ashley A looked at her best friend. "No?"
"I can clearly tell you're lying. Spinelli, I'm your friend, you can tell me anything on your mind."
"Alright! You got me! I have a crush on Arnold. There! I said it! I feel so relieved to say but ugh! I haven't said anything about it 'cause I work at a Firehouse and I don't want anyone to know about it!"
"Woah, calm down, Spinelli! I could barely understand what you were saying! Slowly this time."
"Alright. I have a crush on Arnold." Ashley A looked at her. She then smiled. "Well, that's great! But don't you plan to tell him sooner or later?"
"I want to but I'm not sure whether he feels that way…" Ashley A then noticed that Spinelli was hiding something. "Is there something else you're not telling me?"
"We have sex. Before we even started having sex, I always felt a special way about him! He's just so caring and compassionate… UGH. He's unlike any boy you'd ever meet!"
"Well, at least you didn't tell me specifically what or how you guys have sex…" Ashley A rolled her eyes. "But anyways, you're in love here, and that's all that matters! Now that I'm in on it, let's choose out a dress that'll scream 'I'm in love'."
"Just try and pick out a perfect dress for me…"
As they kept looking for the perfect dress, deja vu would hit.
"Huh… Spinelli, look at this dress."
"I swear, if it's some sort of idiotic shit, I'll-" Spinelli then saw the light blue dress. "Isn't that the same dress I had during that beauty contest once?"
"Spinelli, we just found you your perfect dress!"
"Now hang on now. I wanna choose at least two more. Arnold told me to surprise him."
"A black, and a red dress?" Ashley A suggested. "Perfect!"
Meanwhile
Andy was resting as Arnold had some time for himself in the meantime.
"Never knew you two had that much going on lately." Travis was talking with Arnold. "Yeah well, I don't know what to really say about the situations lately. And with the Engine gone, I don't know what could be next for the firehouse. Gerald, you better not be emptying the fridge for beer…" Arnold looked back as he caught Gerald trying to sneak into the kitchen.
"Man, how'd you figure it was me?"
"I know you too well." Arnold chuckled.
"C'mon! The Sooners need to score here!" Donovan shouted at the TV. "Don, you do realize there's a child in the house?" Montgomery said to Donovan. "Shit, my bad."
"Yeah, I think it's best if you lay off those beers." Arnold lowered an eyelid while raising his other eyebrow.
"So Arnold, you seeing anyone lately?" Travis asked as he drank his water. "No, not really. I just feel like I can't be chasing, and waiting around for love. So, the hell is the point of it? I want to remarry eventually, but I feel like I just have to wait for the right opportunity."
"I feel you on that."
"Scrolling on gay dating apps for sex? Yeah no." Arnold chuckled. "Not that! Possibly remarrying someday." Travis replied.
Donovan turned off the tv. "I prefer not to watch any more of whatever shit show I was watching…"
"Sooners just scored. Got the notification here." Arnold looked at his phone. Donovan immediately turned the tv back on.
An Hour and A Half Later
Spinelli soon came back from the mall with Ashley A, and had three-four dresses with her, along with some other stuff to surprise Arnold.
"Oh, honey! I'm home!" Spinelli couldn't contain herself as she laughed. "Man, people who still say that are just weird in my opinion. But ah anyhow…" She then found Arnold passed out on the couch with a beer bottle in hand. "That bastard…"
