"What?! Mom, you can't! You're the best Chief there is in the city! Hell, you're even a role model example for any upcoming Battalion Chief!"
"Arnold, I know it's a surprise, but I feel like it's a decision I probably have to make. I love the job, I really do! But I feel like it also gets in the way of my family, and you're honestly my only family. My mother is dead, and my father is also dead but from a car accident."
"Mom, I can't tell you which decision you should make, but all I can do is give you some advice. Follow your heart. I know you love the job, but you need to also think about the inspiration you're also giving out! You're the best Battalion Chief!"
"Think Andy would become Battalion Chief one day?" Stella chuckled. "Anything's possible, she'll probably take after me. She gets her looks from her mother, after all." Arnold chuckled as he looked at Andrea.
Stella could only smile. "I'm more than proud to be Andrea's father, her mentor, and guidance. She'll one day grow up to be strong, like how her mother once was…" Stella then put a hand on his shoulder. "And she'll be as strong as she was. And possibly as strong as her new mother, Spinelli."
"Mom…" Arnold blushed. "Spinelli isn't Andy's official mother, and we're not even married!" Arnold's blush grew after he mentioned marrying Spinelli.
"Yet." Stella smirked. "Mom!"
"Oh, don't worry. I'm sure she wouldn't mind marrying you and being Andy's mother." Stella couldn't contain her chuckle. "Are you lying or what's with the laughter?" Arnold raised an eyebrow.
"Nah, I'm sorry." Stella recomposed herself. "But I'm pretty sure she wouldn't mind marrying you. And do I need to point out all the special things going on with you two?"
"Mom, I'm pretty sure that-"
"You two kiss each other, you guys live together, you two also take care of Andy together like parents, you two have known each other since you were both twenty or basically at the Fire Academy, you two have a special connection, having the same parent issues, and not to mention that you guys probably have se-"
"OK. Ok, ok, I get the big idea!" Arnold then interrupted. "Look, I'll admit it. Spinelli is such a beautiful and unique woman, the most unique I'd ever meet. She's tough and resilient, and there are many things that are beautiful about her!"
"So you DO love her." Stella smirked. "Let me finish, no?" Stella nodded. "As I said, she has many beautiful aspects but I also know her childhood. And I'm afraid if I tell her I love her, she'd think I'm soft or whatnot. And no, I don't love her, it's just an example."
"Riiight…"
"She's beautiful, and I'll admit it, but I feel like I can't marry her. You get me, right?"
"Yep. You're afraid to tell the woman you love her and that's the end of the story." Stella chuckled a little. "Oh, come on! I never said I love her or anything!"
"Your actions can tell a different story, along with your tone and words. Mentioning how beautiful she is."
"Mom…"
"Arnold, a piece of advice, follow your heart. You know you love her. Just love her, Arnold, ok?"
"Ok." Arnold quietly said as he nodded.
"Love you, sweetie." Stella kissed Arnold's cheek and soon left to see Spinelli.
"What are you doing?" Stella saw Spinelli looking out the windows. "Huh? Oh, nothing. I was just looking outside 'cause I heard my Engine company racing by. It's hard on a day off, knowing how much you love the job, and the people you work with, they're all like family. A family away from your family, y'know?"
"I've been there when I was in my first few years at an old station. Station Nineteen. Great times." Stella replied as she smiled. "Say, let me tell you a quick story about this one rookie."
"Let me hear it!" Spinelli sat next to Stella.
"It was a court day since our idiotic Lieutenant decided to assault someone, but he was in the right 'cause paparazzi was trying to get photos while some of us were getting oxygen after getting high on K-Two drugs, equipment wasn't as advanced as today but pretty solid. That's a story for another day. Anyway, we were at court for our friend, Lieutenant Scott, and it wasn't as pretty as you would think."
"How so?"
"To put it in short, the photographer was acting like a dramatic granny at a Walmart parking lot. Anyhow, you'll never guess what the rookie did when we mentioned 'order'."
"What'd he do?"
"We were all mentioning whether Scott was gonna get served or not, and the Probie thought we were talking like a restaurant served." Stella started to chuckle. "The Judge then shouted 'Order!' and the Probie shouted 'Two cheesy enchiladas with a tamale, please!'. And everyone in the court started laughing!" Stella then bursted into laughter. Spinelli also bursted into laughter.
"No way! Are you serious?"
"I wish it was a joke! He ended up getting fined fifty thousand for disrupting." Stella kept laughing. "No way anyone can be that freakin' dumb!" Spinelli had a hand on her forehead and stomach as she kept laughing.
"Now that's a good one!" Spinelli soon stopped laughing. "Oh, it was funnier in person!"
Later
"Hey, Arnold! You'll never guess what- Arnold?" Spinelli was about to tell him something, but she didn't find him with Andy. "The baby is asleep, so where the hell is he?"
She then decided to look outside.
"Arnold?" She then found Arnold laying on the hood of his truck. She also noticed something off about him.
She then walked up to him. "You okay, Arnold?"
"Well, I'm fine as I can be right now… I guess Phoebe was right, maybe I do have PTSD."
Spinelli only sighed as she looked at him. "I'm not gonna stand here and make you deny it, but if anything, it's much PTSD, you'd be way worse. But I honestly think you suffer from slight depression. One minute, I see you as happy as ever, the next, you're more miserable than a dog who doesn't have his bone." Spinelli then hopped up and sat down next to Arnold.
"I guess you're right. 'Cause, it's moments like this where I simply hate life, almost finding no point on why I should live." Arnold then held Spinelli's hand.
"Arnold, you have a kid who needs you, that's something worth living for. And I know you can't let Andy grow up without a mother or father."
"Spinelli, I want you to be Andy's mother."
"Say what…?"
"I've been thinking about it for a while now, and I think you should be Andy's mom. I know this is probably out of the blue, but Spinelli, you're the only one I truly trust with Andrea, and I think it's only right if you're Andy's Mother." Arnold looked over as a tear fell from his face slowly. Spinelli smiled as she squeezed his hand. "It may be my first time being a Mom, but I'll do my best. Thanks, Arnold."
Later At Night
Arnold was downstairs, sitting on the couch as he was waiting for Spinelli to come down for their date.
"Ugh… Where's a five-alarm when you need it?" Arnold was now getting cold feet.
Spinelli was up in her room, looking over herself and also looking over her dress.
"And I thought I'd never see this dress again, what a coincidence." She then looked over her hair. "Man, this all reminds me of that damn beauty contest from when I was a kid." She did her hair as she did back then at the beauty contest. She also had on white evening gloves.
"Arnold, don't worry about a thing! Andy will be safe, trust me." Phoebe reassured Arnold when she came back from Andrea's room. "I couldn't have asked for a better friend than you, Pheebs." Arnold gave a small smile.
The two then heard a whistle coming from the stairs. They both looked over towards a surprisingly beautiful sight.
Spinelli soon came down the stairs and approached Arnold. "Why hey there, handsome." She smirked. Arnold blushed. "Spinelli, I- I never knew… Spinelli, you look absolutely beautiful." Arnold smiled and kissed her forehead.
"I'll be right back." Phoebe told Arnold. "You look rather handsome yourself." Spinelli admired. "Is that lipstick I see you applied?" Arnold soon noticed. "I was wondering how long it'd take you to notice."
Spinelli then yanked on Arnold's collar and straight into a kiss.
"Arnol- oops. Didn't mean to walk in on you two." Phoebe lightly blushed. Arnold and Spinelli looked over. "You have the little 'item' I requested?"
"Here it is!" Phoebe chirpily replied and handed over a little box to Arnold. "Arnold, what is that?"
"Spinelli, this was something I had gifted Rhonda just months before she passed away, and I feel like she'd want it passed onto you." Arnold opened the little box, revealing a shiny necklace that had a heart. "Allow me." Arnold soon put the necklace around Spinelli's neck. Spinelli smiled as she kissed Arnold.
"Have fun, lovebirds." Phoebe smirked as she soon sat on the sofa. The two just blushed.
"Well… Shall we?" Arnold offered his arm. "We shall indeed." Spinelli linked her arm with Arnold.
Later
"So Arnold, tell me where we're headed? And just know, I've barely even been to fancy restaurants in my life."
The pickup came to a stop at a red light.
"I think I should leave it a surprise." Arnold smirked. "Oh, great… What's next, you surprise me with a wedding ring?" The two looked at each other and blushed.
"Let's not go too far…" Shortly after, Arnold then held Spinelli's hand. Arnold then kissed Spinelli's hand when they soon heard a car colliding with a pole.
"The hell was that?!" Spinelli looked over. "Whatever that was, is now trash heap." Arnold started. "And since we're off duty, we're gonna have to get medics by phone instead of radio like usual."
Arnold pulled to a stop near the crashed SUV. "You stay here 'till you called for an Aid Car." Arnold then got out. "Wish I could get my hands dirty." Spinelli rolled her eyes as she got on the phone.
Arnold looked over the wreckage and found the windshield shattered, while the driver was unconscious.
"Oh no…" Arnold tried to see whether the driver-side door was able to open, but it was jammed. "Shit!"
"Arnold!" Spinelli soon came up to him. "Aid car is on its way, what do we have?"
"Two people were involved, the passenger is accounted for. We got major facial lacerations on the driver." Spinelli then smelled something off. "What's that smell?"
Arnold soon saw inside the car. "Drugs. Of course…" He rolled his eyes. "Not that! Arnold, check around this car, I'll see what I can do here!"
Arnold went to check around and stepped in some fluids. "What the…? Uh oh." Arnold checked under the car, the gas tank was leaking. "Spinelli! We're gonna have to find a way to get this guy out and fast! The gas tank is leaking!"
"Thank goodness the driver is facing away." Spinelli had no other option but to use one of her high heels to shatter the glass. "Thankfully I took my evening gloves off." Spinelli said to herself as she checked for a pulse. She then saw something off. "Arnold! Look!" She pointed.
The passenger flew from the windshield and onto the sidewalk on the other side. He was laying in a pool of blood.
Arnold ran over to check. He kneeled close and checked for a pulse. He felt nothing. "He must've died on impact… He's gone."
Soon enough, an ambulance was heard approaching. Coincidentally, it was Medic Fifty-Five. Montgomery and Donovan were on the call.
"Hey, isn't that Arnold's pickup?" Travis pointed out. "Yeah, I think it is. What could it be doing here?" Donovan pulled the truck to a stop.
"Arnold? What are you doing here?" Donovan asked after he got out of the truck. "Does that matter right now? Look, here's a rundown, that passenger over there is dead, the driver has major facial lacerations and possible trauma, and we also have a gas leak."
"Dispatch, requesting an Engine company and an extra Aid Car, we have a deceased patient." Travis soon requested to dispatch. "Copy that, Medic Fifty-Five."
"Alright, Spin, you did your part here, let us take over." Spinelli soon moved over as Travis and Donovan checked over the SUV.
Spinelli soon walked up to Arnold at the Aid Car.
"Who would've thought we'd deal with this on our date night?" Arnold chuckled. "Pretty unexpected that's for sure."
"Let's get cleaned up and get back towards our date?"
"Definitely."
After a few minutes, the two were cleaned up as another ambulance arrived along with an Engine company.
"Man… Doing stuff like this off-duty, kind of feels weird. You're more limited than anything else." Spinelli mentioned as she put her seatbelt on. "Man, tell me about it. So glad we get back on shift tomorrow morning."
"It'd be too soon if we deal with something big tomorrow as the first call out." Spinelli chuckled. "I hope there isn't a call-out until an hour into our shifts." Arnold laughed as the engine started up.
