I know "waltz" isn't probably a good title name for this, but it's the start of something... Anyways, enjoy!
Later
"I'm disappointed in every single one of you." Stella started as they were all at Station 55. "These are NOT the firefighters I know and respect! You lot have all disappointed me and the entire Fire Department. You're all dismissed until further notice, and I'll have A and C shifts take over. I'm tremendously disappointed in all of you. And I do NOT want a single word out of ANY of you! Do I make myself clear?!"
They all nodded.
"Good. You're all dismissed." She started walking away.
"How's our Princess doing today?" Arnold was in Andy's room as he went to change her diaper. "How's my sweet baby girl?" Arnold gave several kisses to her forehead.
Arnold smiled as he heard Andy's joyful laughter.
"If only your mother was here…" Arnold's smile lightly faded as his eyes started to tear up.
Flashback to The First Call-Out Since Rhonda's Passing
It was a sunny afternoon after the memorial, and Arnold was already back in the Firehouse, with Spinelli by his side.
The trucks were just poking out of the garage.
Arnold was seated in front of his locker as he looked at his turnout gear and helmet.
He didn't say a word, Spinelli only rubbed his back.
Arnold had several tears streaming down his face as Spinelli was right beside him, comforting him. Arnold looked at the ring on his finger.
"I don't know whether I'll ever remarry…" He thought with a sad look. Spinelli didn't know what to say, she only kept rubbing his back and shoulder.
The station alarm was triggered.
"Engine 55, Ladder 55, Aid Car 55, respond to structural fire. 7281 West Northgate." Dispatch started.
"7281 West Northgate. Got it, Cap?" Lieutenant Gibson said.
"Alright, you all know what to do!" Captain McShay told his team.
"Let's go!"
"Headed West, boys!"
Everyone downstairs in the engine room was gearing up, as one of the trucks was already being fired up.
"Well, we got a call… I'll see when we get back…" Spinelli got up. Arnold looked over.
"Any of your damn business!…"
"Ha ha! Out west!"
Radio chatter was also heard coming from the trucks.
"Fifteen, seven."
"Time out…"
Spinelli soon slid down the pole to the engine room with her turnout gear on. Arnold would follow her shortly after, all dressed in the turnout gear.
"I knew he wouldn't miss this." Spinelli smiled at Arnold as he walked toward the Ladder unit.
Engine 55 soon started to take off as the Aid Car sirens were on. All three truck sirens were on and reflecting everywhere around the station and outside.
Arnold soon climbed into the Ladder truck along with Spinelli as it started taking off, with the Aid Car following behind.
As the trucks soon drove through the streets, everyone was mostly silent.
Arnold adjusted to the seat with Spinelli beside him.
"You doin' ok?" She asked. Arnold only nodded.
"Here, you're doin' it wrong." Arnold noticed the rookie in front of him, putting on his gear wrong.
"Copy that, forty-one" Radio chatter from the front.
"Dispatch, this is 55 en route."
"Copy that."
Arnold soon fixed the rookie's uniform and gear.
"Thanks." The nervous probie said. "You're alright." Arnold replied as he soon looked to the front.
Captain McShay smiled at Arnold as he soon turned to face forward again. Arnold smiled as well as he put on his helmet.
"I'm proud of you." Spinelli smiled at Arnold as she held his hand. "Thanks." Arnold gave a small smile back.
Arnold kept his smile as he soon looked out the truck window. The probie took a deep breath and looked back at his Lieutenant.
Arnold looked out the window, while the sirens felt silent but the engine kept purring. The passing of his wife hurt and stung in many places, but he knew he did all he could. While Rhonda's passing stung him mentally, he knew he had to keep going with his life, with a very young daughter to raise on his own. Arnold knew he could count on all of his friends, and while he felt like he barely had anything to live for, he kept pushing as his friends were constantly there for him. Spinelli held Arnold's hand while he looked out the window, she had a feeling that everything would soon change in the coming months. Arnold looked over briefly and smiled at Spinelli, and looked back out the window. Arnold gave a smile as he looked at the afternoon sky. He soon smiled as he looked off into the distance.
Soon, Engine 55, Ladder 55, and Aid Car 55 were all driving through the streets on a sunny Hillwood afternoon. The trucks soon passed by a filled gas station and a restaurant.
All three trucks soon got out of view and it was the view of the Hillwood sunset with tall buildings and shading in the distance.
Present Day
Tears fell from Arnold's face as he held Andy in his arms.
"It's alright, sweetie… One day, we'll see mommy again… But not now, sweetheart, you have a whole life ahead of you…" Arnold choked on his words as tears kept falling from his face. "Nothing to worry about, my little angel, daddy just needs a moment…" Arnold tried to smile, but his sadness got the better of him. Spinelli was at the door, feeling terrible for him.
She soon walked up to him and snaked her arms around his waist, and her head on his back.
Arnold lightly patted Andy's back, she was rather confused. Andrea then reached for Spinelli, while making her usual baby sounds.
Spinelli noticed. "Here, come to momma. Arnold?" He turned around and handed Andy over to her.
Arnold slowly walked out as tears kept falling. Spinelli looked at him in concern.
"I'll get you a fresh diaper, and then I'll go check on daddy, ok? I just hope he's alright."
Minutes Later
"And here I thought we'd get an entire day off." Donovan complained.
"Calm it down, hotshot. You'll be here half the day, you'll be having the next three days off. You all earned it." Stella told members of both A and C shifts.
"Well, there's a bright side."
"I just hope there aren't many calls today, ugh." Michelle groaned.
"There you are! Fresh new diaper. Feels a lot better, huh sweetie? Oh, you precious angel." Spinelli kissed Andy's cheek. "Alright, you go on and play with all the toys daddy bought for you, and I'll go check on him." Spinelli set Andy on the ground, near all her toys.
"Arnold, where are you?" Spinelli went to look for Arnold.
He was back in the living room, but with the TV off. He was hanging his head and crying his eyes out while burrowing his face into his hands.
"Honey, you ok?" Spinelli sat next to him.
"Ugh, I feel like a miserable piece of shit who can barely move on." Arnold choked on his tears. "I'm not saying I'm using you as a replacement, I still feel hurt after months and months…"
"There, there, now. Everything's alright." Spinelli pulled Arnold into a hug and rested his head on her shoulder. "Easy now, I'm here. I'm here for you, sweetie." Spinelli then decided to try and lighten the mood.
"If you don't stop crying, I'll grab your laptop and smash your head with it." She smirked. Arnold soon went from crying, to now chuckling a little. "I love your scrappy and tough attitude. It's what makes you unique." Arnold wiped away his tears. "Guess my parents really were right about it." She smiled.
"I love you, sweetheart." Arnold hugged her tightly. "I'll always love you, my precious football head." She shined a smile. "Hey!" Arnold chuckled. She only giggled and kissed his cheek after.
Soon, they heard their doorbell ring.
"I'll get it."
Meanwhile…
"I never knew your dad owned this old military vehicle." Phoebe looked at the old military vehicle. "My dad is a war hero despite what he says." Gerald admired the dusty vehicle.
"And what do you plan to do with it?"
"Clean it and sell it soon." Gerald replied. "What?! Why? This thing is an antique!"
The two didn't even notice they were being watched.
"Looks like this pathetic moron is all I need to get everything set…" The hooded figure snickered.
"I honestly don't think I can even keep it, so I feel like selling it might be the best option for me." Gerald shrugged. "Gerald, please, just reconsider your decision and take time before you make a final decision on it. For me?" Phoebe begged.
"Alright…" Gerald lightly nodded. Phoebe then smiled.
"All I need is to find a way to lockpick that car, and I'll be having that asshole framed!" The hooded figure started. "And I better find a way fast, this flammable material ain't lastin' long out in the open."
"Son, it's so good to see you again!" Stella gave a bear hug to her son. "It's so great to see you again, Mom!" Arnold hugged Stella tightly.
"Wait a minute- Arnold, what's with your eyes?" Stella noticed his eyes were partially red. "Oh, I uh… I may have been crying a minute ago." Arnold gave a nervous smile.
"Oh, honey, is something wrong?"
"Actually, he was just remembering his wife." Spinelli mentioned. Arnold only nodded.
"Spinelli, sweetie, can you give Arnold and me a minute? It won't be long. Please?" Stella asked. "I'll be checking on Andy in the meanwhile." She replied.
"Hun, sit down with me." Stella told Arnold as she went to the living room.
Soon, they were seated.
"Arnold… I don't know how to say this or even tell this to you. But um…." Stella gave a nervous look. "What's wrong, Mom?"
"Arnold, darling… I think you should marry Spinelli."
Shattering glass was seen, as the same hooded figure implemented a cigarette box inside a random car in a parking lot.
"This should catch their attention." The figure lit a match and tossed it onto the car seat.
Fire from the matchstick quickly spreaded from the car seat, as the wristwatch ticked and ticked inside the cigarette box.
