The ambulance arrived at MedStar with its sirens still on, signifying the patient was still alive.
Phoebe and E.R. nurses and doctors rushed as Donovan opened the rear doors.
"Alright, come on! He still has a pulse! Come on! Let's go!" Gibson exclaimed as he hopped out while the stretcher was being brought out.
Phoebe couldn't tell who it was by the boots, but once the stretcher was out, she gasped.
"Oh my God, Arnold!"
Gerald hopped out.
"Alright! Let's go! Get him inside! I need a dose of lidocaine pushed now! Get him straight to the O.R.! And page Dr. Pierce! Get her to meet us there! Hurry, we don't have a second to waste!" Phoebe directed as Donovan, the nurses, and the doctors wheeled the stretcher inside.
Phoebe saw Spinelli hop out of the ambulance. She had taken off both her airpack and coat and was left with her turnout pants on.
"Spinelli-"
"Phoebe! Please tell me Arnold will make it!" Phoebe gulped. "Look, I have to get to surgery now. Get to the waiting room, and I'll come find you once I get any updates! I promise!" Phoebe immediately went inside. Spinelli only sighed and shook her head.
"Don't you even fucking dare say a word to me! It's all your fault this all happened! If it wasn't for you having those chemicals, NONE OF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED!" Spinelli yelled at Gerald and shoved him away. She then walked inside, both sad and infuriated.
Gerald stood outside, and ambulance sirens were heard as Aid Car 23 arrived with Travis.
More E.R. Doctors came out.
"Alright, come on! Let's get him inside!" A male doctor said as the rear doors were opened.
Travis was brought out and wheeled inside with the doctors and a paramedic.
"Where did I go wrong as of late?…" Gerald asked himself, feeling miserable.
Spinelli was soon in the waiting room, not knowing whether she'd see Arnold again.
Five Hours Later
It had been hours since the factory fire and the injuries, while the fire was still going, being displayed on the news the entire time, Spinelli was anxiously awaiting any news on Arnold's condition.
In the operating room, he was intubated while doctors were still working on him, and were around twenty minutes away from being done. During those five hours, it was rather difficult as Arnold's heart had stopped FIVE TIMES. Twice during an hour, and three times the next three hours. Phoebe and the doctors were able to resuscitate him all five times thankfully.
Most of them were sweating profusely during the surgery but were working to save his life.
"We're just about done here, Arnold… Just hang in there for an extra few minutes, please…" Phoebe said as she grabbed a different tool.
Around a few minutes would pass by, and Spinelli was just quiet the entire five hours, not mentioning a word to Scott, Donovan, or even less Gerald.
Phoebe soon came out after wiping off sweat from her forehead.
Scott and Gerald approached her, but Spinelli yanked Gerald out of her way.
"Phoebe, is he…?"
"Well, it took us around four or five hours, but Arnold is extremely lucky he got here in time. Not just that, he had an angel looking over him." Phoebe winked at Spinelli.
"Soooo, what does this mean for him?" Scott asked. "He'll be out of surgery soon, he'll be able to breathe and see another day. No idea about his recovery timetable, but we'll soon see. I have to get back now."
"Thanks, Phoebe." Spinelli smiled for the first time in the past six-seven hours.
Phoebe smiled and soon walked back to the operating room.
Spinelli gave a sigh of relief. Scott took a deep breath and walked over to sit down.
Ten Minutes Later
"… And we're all done!" Phoebe finished closing the wound. "Get him to a recovery room now." Phoebe walked out and threw away her gloves. She then took a deep breath and felt like she could breathe normally for once.
She walked back to the waiting room. Spinelli approached her.
"He's finally out of surgery, and he's headed to a recovery room. He's out of danger now. Hopefully, if everything goes right, he'll make a full recovery. Unfortunately, we'll have to keep him in for two or three days to keep an eye on him. But he's fine right now." She smiled. "Phoebe… Thank you so much!" She hugged her. "It's always a pleasure." Spinelli then let go.
Dr. Bailey soon walked over.
"Alright, Travis is in stable condition, but we'll be keeping him in overnight to keep a close eye on him. And if everything goes right, he's on his way to a full recovery."
"Thanks a lot, you two. I wish more doctors around the world were like you two." Spinelli complimented. "Oh, we're just doin' our job. Something we love doing." Phoebe smiled. "Oh, she's right on that." Dr. Bailey chuckled.
"We already lost one firefighter tonight, we couldn't accept losing two more… Thanks." Scott smiled. "You're very welcome." Phoebe smiled.
"Wait, Phoebe."
"Yeah?" She looked at Spinelli. "When can I go see Arnold? I'm anxious to see him right now."
"I'll go check on him, and you can go see him right after. Just know he'll need to sleep for a while after this extensive surgery, but he'll be able to hear you. And I recommend talking about things you and Arnold cared about." Spinelli then smiled. "Thanks."
Phoebe smiled.
She soon walked away to check on Arnold. Dr. Bailey went with her.
Later
"I'll go and check on Montgomery." Dr. Bailey said and walked out of the room. Phoebe nodded and checked Arnold's eyes.
"All good here… B.P.'s normal. Heart rate is all good. I'd say he's on the road to recovery." Phoebe told herself and smiled. She soon rubbed her smooth hand against Arnold's hand.
"Rest up, Arnold." Phoebe gave a light kiss on his forehead. She smiled and soon walked out.
Within a couple of minutes, Phoebe guided Spinelli to where her beloved was.
"Thanks again, Phoebe." Spinelli told her. "Always a pleasure. And like I said, he'll make a full recovery, but he'll be out of the station for the time being. And he'll need your help as well." Phoebe replied and patted her back.
Spinelli slowly walked in and saw Arnold asleep. He was intubated for the meantime.
Spinelli then sat next to him bedside and held his hand.
"Hey, Arnold. I know you probably don't hear me, but I honestly thought I should vent a little, and cherish all the moments we've had together all these years, and especially our relationship. I know we may have had minor rough patches here and there, but nothing changes my love for you. You're my one and only." She started rubbing his hand.
"Sometimes I wonder how deep our love goes for each other, but that's like asking a baby to count money." She then chuckled. "I bet our little Andy is just eager to see us tomorrow the morning, waiting for us to have her in our arms again." She smiled while tears built up in her eyes. "Maybe she's not expecting to see you like this, in a hospital room, but she'll be able to see you once more. And I know your mom is anxious to see you again."
Phoebe then walked in.
"Spinelli, sorry to bother you but I just remembered something. Scott mentioned a fallen firefighter today. Is that true?" She asked. "Yeah. Helga killed him."
"Oh, dear… Uh anyhow, by the time his line-of-duty funeral comes, Arnold should be released from here and should be able to walk alongside you all for the funeral." Phoebe replied. "Alright." Spinelli replied while looking at Arnold. Phoebe only nodded and walked out.
Back at the Lloyd residence, Brooke held Andy in her arms like she was her own daughter, like how she held Rhonda when she was a baby.
Buckley stood behind her and smiled as Diesel and Bandit sat next to them.
"Arnold, all these years of our close friendship, and now boyfriend and girlfriend, I just want you to know that I'll love you 'till the very end." Spinelli couldn't keep going as tears slid down her face.
She cried for around a minute but then felt her hand weird. She looked at her hand. Arnold was gripping her hand despite being asleep. She could only smile as the tears fell from her face.
She stood up for a moment and gave him a long kiss on his forehead.
"Good night, my sweetheart." She then sat down.
Hours Later
It was around five in the morning, the factory fire was already out, and several members from 55 came. Dean, Pep, and Stella.
"Hey." Stella approached Spinelli. "How about you head home and get some rest?"
"I- I'm not leaving Arnold…" She replied while drowsy. "Why do you think we're here?" Dean gave a friendly smile. "The chairs and we are about to have some quality time." Pep also gave a friendly smile as had a hand on her shoulder.
"Huh? Wh- When'd you get here?" She asked, drowsily. "I think I'll drive you home. You need some rest." Stella helped Spinelli up as she was getting more sleepy.

After Stella and Spinelli walked out of the room together, Dean soon sat in the chair she was sitting on. Pep sat on the other side of Arnold and held his hand.
The road to recovery for Arnold and Travis began.
While they had to be out of the station for quite some time, they were lucky to have survived the factory fire.
Soon, an ambulance was outside, but it had arrived with the sirens off. When the stretcher was brought out, it was covered up. It was Kyle's dead body. Phoebe was outside with a Doctor. The stretcher was wheeled inside while she shook her head.
Within a few minutes, Spinelli was back home and had taken her turnout pants off, and was now in her regular uniform. She was helped to her bedroom by Stella.
Stella then called the Lloyds after she left, and notified them of what happened that night.
Brooke was the one who picked up the phone. She at first felt her heart sink into her stomach hearing of Arnold's injury but was relieved to find out Arnold survived along with his colleague.
Kurt and Joe were at the burned factory, investigating what happened. They soon encountered the elevator shaft where Travis had fallen into. The shaft wasn't filled with water anymore, and they soon saw the helmets left behind, lying there soaked. A white Battalion Chief helmet, a red Lieutenant helmet, and two black helmets all lying there.
More investigators around the factory soon found a burned car near the factory. Unfortunately, the car was unrecognizable, and everything inside it was burnt to pieces.
Back at the mansion, Spinelli was about to drift off to sleep, but she turned over and saw a picture of her and Arnold together. She only gave a small smile as she briefly touched it. She then decided to get up, head to Andy's room, and get the stuffed dog plushie Arnold gave to Andrea.
She went back toward her bedroom, got back into bed, and held onto the dog plushie that belonged to Arnold as a kid.
With the dog plushie in her arms, she was keeping Arnold near her while he was at the hospital.
Phoebe came back to his room to remove the tracheal tube from his throat. She then inserted a nasal cannula into his nose. Pep had already fallen asleep as it was a long night for everyone. Dean was barely awake but kept a constant eye on his friend.
Gerald was off-duty and was back at his place, extremely upset with himself and not knowing whether Arnold would forgive him for what he did. He was sitting at the edge of his bed, all alone. His parents were no longer around, his brother lived in a different state, and Timberly was living her own life single. He had no idea about their whereabouts, or what their phone numbers could be. He was all alone.
At the Lloyds, Brooke had gone to check on Andy, who was sound asleep. She only smiled while she looked at her for a moment. She briefly caressed her cheek before checking on the two dogs.
Diesel and Bandit were asleep together at the end of the bed where Brooke and Buckley slept.
After falling asleep, Pep woke herself up and checked Arnold. He was still asleep as his vitals were all stable. All she could do was hold his hand and briefly rub it. Dean was keeping himself awake with a nature magazine as he kept an eye on his friend from way back since the Fire Academy.
Phoebe came in every thirty minutes to nearly an hour to constantly check on Arnold and also check on Montgomery. She was now confident they were well on their way to a full recovery.
She stood at Arnold's bedside for a moment as she remembered the night when Rhonda died. She was the doctor who had to painfully pronounce her dead. She remembered that painful night as she had lost a close friend as well, but thankfully, she wasn't losing another close friend.
At home, Spinelli had drifted off to sleep as she held onto a close memory of Arnold, the dog plushie. Despite Arnold being at MedStar Memorial, she kept him close to her heart while she slept.
As the music soon faded out toward the sound of Engine 55 and Truck 55s' engines purring while they drove through the streets, inside, nobody said a word to each other. They all mainly had sad expressions, along with a bit of blankness. Some of them didn't even move like statues, while others barely made any movement like shaking their heads or just moving their eyes around.
