Hours Later
It was hours after the only call out of the day since it was relatively quiet the rest of the day. Arnold was currently in the Captain's office dealing with paperwork and also looked into who would replace Donovan while he was on leave of absence.
Meanwhile…
"Boy, you're lucky to have made a new friend out of this mess, probably the only upside of all this." It was Dr. Catherine Shepherd. She was currently with the unidentified man. She was referring to the woman he saved. The man groaned and touched her hand.
"Do you wanna try to write again?" She pulled out her pen.
The man couldn't move much but his right arm and his face was more or less swollen. He was bandaged up and intubated.
Catherine had her palm open. The man started writing with his finger weakly. He wrote a 0, and another 0, and finally a 7.
She gave a confused look and started thinking. "… Double O… Seven…" She thought for a few seconds, but then gasped. "OH, GOD! Jorge!" She looked at the patient, it was one of her friends and a resident. She immediately ran out of the room to tell the others.
"GUYS!" She soon ran to them. "Guys! John Doe is Jorge! It's Jorge Jacobs!" She exclaimed. A flatline was heard near them. While they ran toward another patient's room, their friend would be taken to immediate surgery.
Teddy was with him. "Come on, Jorge! You hear me? You're gonna pull through! You're gonna make it, you're in good hands!" She tried to calm him.
Twenty Minutes Later
It was twenty minutes since Jorge was taken for surgery, hoping they could save him.
Unfortunately, his brain started swelling.
Their neurosurgeon sighed and put down his tools in disappointment. "There's nothing else we can do… His brain is damaged, and it's swelling too much, his nerves are damaged as well and there's too much damage to do anything more…" He said.
Teddy came over. "So, he's brain-dead now?"
"I'm sorry, Chief…" The neurosurgeon sighed.
"Is he a donor?" She asked. "If we can't save him, maybe we can save others with his organs if he's an eligible donor. He already saved one life today, he can do it again." She looked at Jorge.
"All we can do is call his mother and see whether she can give us an answer." The neurosurgeon replied. Teddy then realized something. "Who's going to tell Dr. Heyerdahl? He was one of her residents." She asked.
"Look, just get him closed up and to ICU, his family will want to say their final goodbyes." Teddy shook her head and took off her surgical gown, mask, and gloves.
A knock on the door was heard. "Hey, Cap. Thought you'd like to see your hot fiancée." None other than Ashley Spinelli, who wanted to see her future husband Arnold.
Arnold soon looked over. "Where have you been?" He chuckled as she soon approached him. They kissed once Spinelli leaned forward.
"We got the day off tomorrow, and I'm thinking we should have a little romantic morning tomorrow." Arnold smirked and nuzzled against her.
"Yeah, and let's make sure we don't get caught this time around." She replied while smirking. "Our shift ends within a couple of hours, you up for a little time with Andy?"
"I wouldn't have it any other way." She smiled.
Arnold soon pulled Spinelli close to him for a kiss.
"What's going on here?" Phoebe came into the operating room where her resident was. Teddy came in behind her.
"Phoebe, we- we're so sorry… Our John Doe is… Is Jorge Jacobs."
Teddy put a hand on her shoulder. Phoebe looked at her in confusion. "What?! There's no way that's Jacobs! Who even said that was Jorge?" She exclaimed.
"Dr. Shepherd said it was Jorge." The neurosurgeon replied.
"You gotta be kidding, right? Thi- This isn't Jorge! How can we even tell?" Phoebe asked, rather upset. "I- I know he has a small tattoo around his left thigh. It's in the shape of Texas." One intern said.
Phoebe looked over at the dark-haired female intern. "Well? Check if it is Jorge or not!"
The intern soon approached his body, and slowly checked his left quad.
"… Gu- G- Guys? It is Jorge." She stuttered.
Phoebe gulped as she felt her heart sink into her stomach. "Th- What even happened to him?! Why did he even leave the hospital if he had to scrub in for surgery?!" She asked, upset.
Teddy yelped as she remembered what happened earlier today.
Brief Flashback
Earlier today, Jorge had announced he had applied for the army to be a trauma doctor there since he was specializing in trauma and he excelled in that area.
Everyone didn't like his decision since he wasn't capable of hurting a fly, why would he join the army?
Teddy was the one who sent Jorge home to spend the day with his mother and also rethink his decision of going into the army as a trauma doctor.
After he was sent home, the rest is history…
Back To The Present…
Phoebe had tears building up in her eyes but tried fighting them back and sniffled.
Teddy soon spoke up. "Ph- Phoebe. I- I may have sent Jorge home early today because of his decision to join the army… I never imagined this would happen!"
"It's not your fault, Chief, I know you tried doing the right thing, but things happen… Get him to the ICU." Phoebe walked out of the O.R.
After she walked out, she let her tears run down her face. She undid her hair and let it flow down naturally down to halfway of her back.
Later
"Captain? May I have a word with you?" Michelle knocked on his door.
"What is it, McShay?" He looked up. She soon stood in front of his desk. "I thought about the Lieutenant promotion, and…" She paused for a moment. She exhaled. "I want to become Lieutenant alongside Lieutenant Spinelli."
Arnold smiled. "Alright, Michelle, I'll be putting in the paperwork for your official application as Lieutenant, and I'll make sure once I'm back to Lieutenant, you'll retain your position. Congratulations, McShay." Arnold shook her hand and smiled.
"Thanks, Arnold. I really appreciate the opportunity." She smiled back. "Next shift will be your first shift as Lieutenant." Arnold smiled.
Michelle smiled and soon walked out of his office. Spinelli passed by her and entered his office.
"Why does she look like she just got your sperm on her face?" Spinelli asked with an attitude.
"Spinelli, another comment like that and I'll suspend you for the week. But she looks like that because she's now a Lieutenant. I just need to fill out the paperwork and-"
Spinelli interrupted. "Woah, woah, woah, woah!" She repeatedly said. "You don't trust me or what?! I can handle being the only Lieutenant!" She exclaimed.
"Spinelli, it's not that I don't trust you, I trust you with my life! But Spinelli, you need some help, you can't do everything alone." He started. "I love you, Spinelli, but our relationship doesn't play a factor in this. Michelle wanted to be Lieutenant, and with her moving up, you have some help." Arnold walked over to her. Spinelli turned her back on him and crossed her arms.
Arnold snaked his arms around her and kissed her cheek twice. "Spinelli, I love you, but our relationship doesn't play a role in this, ok? You need another Lieutenant beside you. And besides, you and Michelle are friends!"
Spinelli scoffed. "Just keep telling me you love me and I'll adjust to her being Lieutenant with me." Arnold smiled.
"I love you." He kissed her cheek. "My little attention seeker." He snickered and kissed Spinelli behind her ear. He then kissed her cheek.
She giggled. She finally turned around and looked Arnold in the eye. She didn't say anything but only giggled again and nuzzled her nose against his.
"I love you, Ashley Spinelli." Arnold smiled and lightly kissed her nose. She only smiled and kissed his lips.
After Their Shift
Arnold and Spinelli were finally home and in the living room, mainly watching TV with their daughter. Diesel was laying on the carpet floor with them, while Bandit was on his back sleeping.
"Finally, some time to relax…" Spinelli stretched her legs and rested her head on Arnold's shoulder. He smiled. "Finally, I get to spend some time with my beautiful fiancée, my beautiful daughter, and my two adorable pets." Arnold stroked her hair.
Soon, their doorbell rang. Spinelli scoffed as Diesel immediately looked over. Arnold rolled his eyes and got up to answer. "We need a video doorbell by now…" He groaned.
He soon opened the door to see it was Phoebe, who's eyes had tears. "Phoebe? What's wrong? Why are you crying?" Phoebe immediately hugged him and started crying again.
"He was my favorite intern…!" She soon stepped inside, and Arnold closed the door after.
"Hang on, hang on! Phoebe, what's the matter? What happened?" Arnold held her by the shoulders. "Th- That John Doe… It was one of my residents! He was the unidentified man!"
"What?!"
"Arnold, his name was Jorge, I had him for his intern year… And Arnold, he was the best I raised." Phoebe sniffled and tried wiping away her tears. "He was such a compassionate and caring Doctor who always connected with his patients in a way nobody else could!" Phoebe clenched his shirt.
"Phoebe…" Arnold gave a worried look and hugged her. Spinelli overheard and came over after leaving Andy on the couch.
"You don't need anything? Like maybe a soda or water or something?" Arnold offered. "Can I just be upstairs? I- I need to be alone for a bit." Phoebe sniffled.
"If you need anything, you know we're just downstairs, alright?" Arnold reminded. Phoebe lightly nodded as she soon walked to the stairs.
"I think it's best if we leave her for a while. Come on." Arnold put an arm over Spinelli as they walked back to the couch.
