At the hospital, Phoebe was in her scrubs uniform, and sitting in a room with the MRI scans of the spinal tumor.

"Would you look at the size of that tumor? Who's spine is that?" Catherine Shepherd walked in while drinking a Starbucks drink. "You wouldn't believe who's spine it is…" Phoebe replied while staring at the image.

"And what are you planning, exactly?" She stood behind her while looking at the images.

"I'm operating on it. But, I'll need help from you guys in keeping this a secret from Teddy, if she finds out about this… Who knows what she'll do!"

"Oh, cheer up, Pheebs. I'm sure you'll be able to think of something soon enough, plus, you can count on all of us to keep quiet and keep it away from the Chief however we can." She rubbed her shoulder.

Phoebe smiled. "Thanks, Cathy. Alright, gather up some of the others, we're starting the surgery soon."

Shepherd nodded. "Alright. And not a word to the Chief." She soon walked out.

Later

Catherine and Phoebe informed most of the people they know about the surgery and told them not to say a word to Teddy about it since it was off her radar.

Within the hour, Isaac was prepped for surgery and he was being wheeled to the operating room.

"Alright, people, this is it." Phoebe started as they were at the entrance of the O.R. "Not a word to the Chief, keep her away from here at all costs, and most importantly… Let's get this tumor out." Phoebe exhaled as they walked into the operating room.

Phoebe stood beside Isaac. "You ready, bud?" She asked.

"Phoebe, don't worry. If you gotta leave me paralyzed, then do it!" He had an encouraging smile. "I already lost enough, I can live without the use of my legs if I have to. Whenever in doubt, just cut the cord. Use your doubt as motivation."

"I'll do everything I can to hopefully have you back on your feet, I promise."

"I know you will. It's time. I'm ready for my nap." He chuckled. Phoebe lightly chuckled as well. "Alright, get the anesthesia." She soon said.

As Issac was being put to sleep, preparing for a long surgery, back at the mansion…

Arnold and Spinelli were awake recently, both naked in bed but tucked in.

"… These are the BEST strawberries I've tasted! Where do you even get them from?" Spinelli looked at her fiancé as he fed her another strawberry.

"There are some secrets I don't even share with my loved ones." Arnold smirked and kissed her forehead.

"Come on… You can tell me." She smirked and swallowed the strawberry. Arnold only shook his head while smirking.

"At least tell me where you get these pancakes!"

Arnold chuckled. "I already told you. I don't share those kinds of secrets." He kissed her forehead again.

"Fine…" She rolled her eyes. "Can I at least have another bite of the pancakes?"

Arnold smiled. "That, I can do." He held up the fork to her. She smiled and took a bite of the pancake.

"This the kind of morning you expected?" Arnold smirked. "… This is everything I need. Although… Something is missing…" She swallowed her pancake. Spinelli started to think in a fake manner.

"What's that?" Arnold looked at her. "I think you should know…" Spinelli smirked.

Arnold smiled and leaned close to her face and started kissing her lips.

They separated after a minute. "I love you, Spinelli." Arnold smiled. "I love you too, Arnold." She smiled back and rested her head on his shoulder.

Arnold only smiled as he set the plate on the nightstand to stroke her beautiful hair.

Back in the O.R. at MedStar, the incision was made around the tumor area. Except, Phoebe and her fellow doctor were mostly… Standing there?

"Uh, Dr. Heyerdahl? We've been standing there since opening him, aren't we going to do anything?"

"Avery, I'm trying to determine what to even do next! The tumor is way bigger than the MRI showed, and it's really adjusted everything." The two were looking through a special tool since they couldn't use their bare eyes for this surgery.

Phoebe looked at the tumor. "If anything, I'm glad I picked you to scrub in for this. I'm glad you have steady hands for this."

"Just my nature, I guess." Avery shrugged.

Meanwhile, in the halls, Teddy was walking along looking for Phoebe.

"Ah. Dr. Shepherd. Where's Heyerdahl? She has a scheduled craniotomy later today and I'm looking for her to scrub in later but I can't find her. Where is she?" Teddy asked.

Catherine yelped. "I uh- I think she hasn't arrived yet. I haven't seen her this morning."

"Notify me when she arrives. I want a word with her regarding the craniotomy." Teddy started walking away.

Catherine only sighed as she headed to O.R. one.

Meanwhile…

Arnold came back after changing Andy's diaper. Spinelli waited for him in bed while naked. Arnold took off his shirt again and crawled into bed with her.

"Anxious for a kiss?" He smirked. "Just kiss me already…" She lowered her eyelids.

Arnold smiled and did as she wanted. He pressed his lips against her soft lips and kissed her passionately.

After a couple of minutes, they separated. Arnold smiled at her. "Have I told you how beautiful you are, Spinelli?"

She let out a small giggle. "What else?" She smiled at him. Arnold caressed her cheek as they started to kiss again.

After what felt like a minute, in reality, it was WAY longer than that…

Catherine stared through the window of the door.

"Isn't this rather depressing? This is why you shouldn't go rogue and try to do this yourself." She shook her head while pacing around.

"Ten hours in and all they've been doing is staring at that spine." Catherine started, but someone overheard.

Footsteps neared. "What did you just say?" It was Teddy, the Chief of Surgery.

Catherine and her friends yelped. "Chief! We uh-"

"Save it!" She soon walked in and grabbed a surgical mask.

"Dr. Heyerdahl!" She started. Phoebe felt her heart sink as she and Avery only stood there. "Dr. Heyerdahl! . . ." She tied on her mask and walked to her best friend.

"Am I to understand that you canceled your surgeries today to operate on an inoperable spinal cord tumor?" Teddy started while Phoebe only stood there. "It's been ten hours, you stood here and done nothing except waste thousands of dollars worth of equipment. And with every second this patient is open, it increases the chances of infection! So I demand that you close up this patient and relinquish this O.R.!"

Phoebe didn't answer for a few seconds. "… Ok… That's it. Close him up." She cleared her throat and took a deep breath.

The timer was stopped. It had reached TEN HOURS, and they did nothing since the tumor was really inoperable.

Later, in the recovery room…

"Issac, I'm sorry but… The tumor was inoperable and I can't do anything about it. Cutting the cord was too risky and could've killed you. At least you can still walk." Phoebe was talking to Issac, who was awake.

"I understand, you worked hard today. You're tired."

Phoebe started walking away. "I'm sorry."

"Can you try again tomorrow?" Issac asked.

"Tomorrow?!" She looked back. "I can't… It's inoperable. And I can't fix it."

"Go home. Sleep on it. We'll talk again tomorrow." He smiled. Phoebe exhaled as she walked out.

After she had left, she decided to go back to Arnold's place for another night. They had just gotten back from a walk in the park with their pets. Spinelli was on the living room couch after giving Bandit and Diesel water in their bowls.

Phoebe saw her in the living room and started to discuss what occurred today.

"Ten hours?!" Spinelli exclaimed.

"There's nothing to understand except I stood there for ten miserable hours and did absolutely nothing!" Phoebe hung her head.

"The best surgeon I'll ever know standing around for ten hours doing nothing? I never even thought that possible."

"I feel like an idiot." Phoebe then had an idea. "Is there any paper and markers around here? I think I have an idea!"

"Uh, yeah. Why?"

"You'll find out." She got up.

After Phoebe got the paper and colored markers, she started drawing a diagram of the tumor area, along with the vessels, and labeled the parts out as well. After she got drew the diagram, she started to explain it to Spinelli, Arnold eventually joined in on the discussion.

The Next Day

It was a bright and early morning. Phoebe was standing outside Issac's room, where she found he was praying.

Later, in the conference room…

"This patient understands cutting the cord means the loss of function of both legs and possibly more." Teddy started. But Phoebe took over. "We have to cut it. It's our only way to kill the tumor."

Teddy sighed. "Alright. You have two hours at best, you can have O.R. 1. Good luck, Heyerdahl." She got up, put away her glasses, and walked out.

Phoebe then turned to Avery and her resident. "We're not cutting the cord."

"We're not?"

"I made the mistake of wanting a plan. There can't be any plan. We go in, and cut." She said.

"But if you hit an artery or the cord, what happens?" Her resident asked.

"He wants a cure, and this is our job to try. I'll see you in the O.R." She got up and soon walked out.

"Now that's hardcore…" Avery mentioned.

Later…

Dr. Shepherd soon walked in with her surgical mask on. "Thought you could use some support."

Phoebe looked over. "I'll need all the support I can get if it helps our patient survive with his legs."

Catherine walked over as Phoebe looked back at the tumor.

"Making the first cut…" She stared hard while cutting the first vessel that was feeding the tumor.

The cardiac monitor started beeping rapidly.

"Did you paralyze him?" Catherine asked. "Nope. The first of many vessels cut. We got more work here." Phoebe replied as she kept looking.

Back home, Arnold and Spinelli were on the living room couch, mainly making out and using their days off to their advantage to bond.

After they separated, Arnold tried going in for another kiss, but Spinelli put a finger on his lips and smirked.

"Ah, ah, ah. Your turn to feed the dogs. I already did it last night." Spinelli smirked.

"You're an ass." Arnold chuckled. Spinelli would only smirk as Arnold got up and whistled them over.

"Here, boys!" He whistled again. He looked at Spinelli, who winked at him flirtily and blew a kiss and finally smirked.

The cardiac monitor was heard beeping rapidly again.

"He's losing amplitude, what just happened?" Shepherd looked over.

"Suction, now!" Phoebe exclaimed.

"Careful!"

No change.

"We're losing him." Shepherd kept an eye on the monitor.

"I'm cutting it." Phoebe was about to cut his spinal cord, but Catherine immediately spoke up.

"Wait! Amplitude is back." Shepherd looked at Phoebe. "Nice work, Pheebs." She gave a small smile behind her surgical mask.

Phoebe felt a sudden sensation. She blinked twice and shook her head. She immediately walked away from her patient. "Take off my mask."

"What?" Catherine soon looked over again.

"Take off my mask! Now!" Phoebe started feeling lightheaded. Catherine immediately approached her and pulled off her mask.

Phoebe started throwing up chunks of vomit, her hands on her knees with puke dripping from her mouth while she was coughing. She was breathing heavily while everyone looked in concern. Her face had gotten red while Catherine rubbed her back while she kept throwing up.
