It was Stella who made the call. Her future daughter-in-law was inside but she had to pull the plug.

Michelle approached her. "But Chief! Warren and Spinelli are still in there! If we retreat, it's over!…" Her voice trembled.

Arnold looked at her. Stella didn't say anything and only looked at the house.

Arnold and Michelle looked at each other with tears starting to build up, they soon looked back at the house.

Within a couple of minutes, the front door had opened with fire around the entrance. It was Spinelli with Milo. Arnold and Michelle immediately ran over.

"STRETCHER! STRETCHER!" She yelled. Her coat was covering Milo.

"ALL UNITS! I'M CALLING AN OPERATIONAL RETREAT! I REPEAT, RETREAT! EVERYONE GET OUT, NOW! EVERYONE GET OUT AND CHECK IN!" Arnold yelled on his radio while approaching his fiancée. The truck horn honked several times to signify the way out.

Milo was being treated on the ground, and Spinelli yanked an airpack off someone.

"SPINELLI! SPINELLI, WAIT!" Arnold stopped her. "BUT WARREN IS AT THE ENTRANCE! HE'S ON THE GROUND COLLAPSED! AND I PROMISED TO GO BACK FOR TAYLOR!" Spinelli yelled.

"LIEUTENANT, STAND DOWN NOW!" Arnold yelled. "CLEMENTE, McSHAY, GO GET WARREN FROM THE ENTRANCE!" He yelled. Pep and Michelle immediately ran to the entrance to get Warren out while Arnold and Travis held Spinelli back.

Upstairs, Taylor was with the SCBA air mask on his face with the PASS device beeping. He was all alone with fire surrounding him.

Downstairs, Dean and Scott tried to fight the fire off, but the fire had engulfed most of the room they were in.

KA-POW

BOOM

CRASH

A fireball flared up and they flinched.

"Captain! We're on the backside of the house and our exits are blocked by fire! Smoke is too thick and we can't see anything, no way out!" Scott radioed.

"Hang tight and keep water on that fire! We're coming to you!" Arnold replied.

Spinelli had fallen to her knees now distraught. Warren was now on a stretcher and being taken to an ambulance. Arnold was beside Spinelli as he let the tears flow down.

Taylor, now abandoned upstairs with the PASS device beeping. He closed his eyes as tears streamed down his face.

Scott and Dean were keeping away from the flames as the fire was worsening inside.

A door was kicked open. "GUYS! OVER HERE!" Pep yelled. Gibson and Dean looked over.

"COME ON!" She yelled. They dropped the hose and immediately ran outside.

As they ran out of the house, Spinelli finally stood up and immediately hugged Arnold.

"I freakin' promised to go back!…" She started to cry. Arnold only hugged her back and immediately took off his helmet.

Once the fire attack teams were out, they were taken to get treated.

Soon, Engine deck guns were aimed at the house fire. Travis switched on the deluge gun and started spraying water at the house. More deck guns were switched on and sprayed at the fire.

Hoses were positioned around the house for an exterior attack. Arnold and Spinelli were seated on the rear of Engine 12, while the ladder of Ladder 55 was being repositioned higher so water could spray from above.

"Michelle…" Spinelli looked at her.

"You fell through the goddamn roof…" Michelle had tears slipping down her cheeks. "I know…" Spinelli replied and gulped. Arnold had his arm around her.

"Come on. Let's get you checked out." Arnold told his fiancée. She only nodded.

Soon, an ambulance was racing through the streets with the sirens blaring.

Spinelli was sitting on the stretcher with Arnold holding her hand. She had a nasal cannula in her nose in the meantime. Arnold rubbed her hand.

"I love you, sweetheart." Arnold nuzzled against her. Spinelli could only nuzzle against him since she didn't feel like saying anything. Arnold soon kissed Spinelli's cheek, wanting to comfort her.

"Glad you're still with me, honey." Arnold kissed her cheek again while rubbing her hand. She only leaned against him. She finally spoke. "I love you." Arnold smiled and kissed Spinelli's forehead.

An Hour Later

The Engine and Ladder were parked inside at the station as the garage doors closed.

Stella was back at their station and tried calling Arnold since he was at MedStar with Spinelli.

No answer. She decided to text him.

"Good work, Captain. Saved a lot of lives, including your future wife's life." She sent him the text and put her phone in her pocket.

"Good work, 55." She told the team and walked away.

While at MedStar, Spinelli was being treated by one of the doctors while Arnold was waiting around. Most of their gear was back at the ambulance but still had on his bunker pants.

He soon looked at his phone and saw the text his Mother sent him. He merely scoffed as he put away his phone.

Later At The Station…

"Well, looks like you and Warren will be off duty for a while, but I think we can manage that." Arnold smiled at Spinelli. She had her arm in a cast.

She only smiled as Arnold kissed her.

Soon, Travis came in. "Hey, Arnold. Michelle bought out the entire store earlier today (an exaggeration) and well… We're going to have breakfast for dinner." He chuckled.

"Sounds great, actually." Arnold smiled. "We'll meet you guys upstairs." Travis nodded and soon walked away.

Arnold smiled at Spinelli. "Looks like breakfast for dinner." He softly chuckled.

"Ugh, sounds real good right now." Spinelli smiled. They soon kissed for a minute.

"Want to stick around or-" Arnold started to ask, but Spinelli interrupted. "Are you kidding? I wanna stay for this!" She soon yanked him for another kiss.

After they separated, they smiled at one another. They soon walked out of the office and started heading to the upstairs kitchen.

Travis was texting on his phone, Michelle encouraged him with a smile. He smiled back and sent the text.

"Hey, Grant! Say, I'd love to know whether you'd like to go out for some coffee or some drinks." The text read.

"Man, nothing like the smell of pancakes to wipe away what has been a hectic day!" Spinelli smelled the scent of pancakes once Arnold and her walked in.

"Oh my goodness, where are the croissants?" Arnold soon joined Michelle. She merely smirked and held one up to him. He smirked back and took it.

"You alright?" Pep came over to him while eating some blueberries after tying her hair in a ponytail. "Just glad everyone's fine. That's all that matters right now." Arnold smiled and decided to give a peck on her cheek. She giggled and went to grab a glass cup.

Spinelli came over and kissed Arnold's cheek. He smiled and gave her a side hug and kissed her forehead.

The door of the kitchen soon opened. "I heard you guys needed some help." It was Lieutenant Theo Luiz of Station 23.

"Aye, there he is!" Everyone smiled.

Travis approached him and hugged him. "My guy, it has been so long since we saw each other!" He patted his back.

"Chief wanted me to sub in here for the meantime while Warren and Spinelli are out- Oh, wait. I think I have someone with me!" He stepped aside. Warren came walking in with a smile.

"Warren! There you are!" Everyone cheered.

"Bailey finally got me discharged after I had to beg her but I'm back!" He smiled.

"And just in time too, breakfast for dinner!" Travis mentioned. Warren had a big smile. "After today, it's only right that we have that."

"Well, I hope all of you have an empty stomach because dinner is just about ready!" Michelle soon said cheerfully.

"Glad you're alright, Ben." Arnold patted his shoulder. He nodded with a smile. "Alright, guys, let's enjoy this one." Arnold smiled while he had an arm over Warren's shoulder.

Everyone agreed with a smile and started chatting away.

"Welcome aboard, Lieutenant Luiz." Arnold smiled at him. "Thank you, Captain." He nodded as he joined them for dinner.

The door opened again.

"What's going on here?" Donovan had came in with Catherine.

"Haven't seen you around here, Shepherd." Pep looked over after eating another blueberry.

"Aw, it feels great to be around you guys again!" Catherine smiled.

Donovan came up to Ben and Spinelli. "Heard you guys had a rough day today. Glad you're both alright." He hugged both of them.

"Hey, Don, you and Catherine should join us for dinner tonight!" Arnold suggested.

"Oh, we'd love that! Wouldn't we, Donnie?" Catherine smiled. "No need to tell me twice." Donovan shrugged with a smile.

As they all started to converse with one another with dinner being served, everyone could agree today was a chaotic day, and they were glad no one else died. As for Arnold and Spinelli, their love won't be cut short this time around.

And now that Warren and Spinelli have to be out for some time, it was now Arnold's job to see about the lineup considering he has three guys out. But one could say they wouldn't have to worry about that situation… Or will they have to worry about it?

Alright, so that does it for this chapter! I've honestly been feeling rather under the weather this week which explains my inactivity and lack of posts, plus I think I'm a little sick today so I haven't been feeling myself most of the day... Uh anyhow, that isn't stopping me from posting this, at least... Again, I hope you've enjoyed this relatively short chapter and I'll see you in the next chapter!
