Chapter 11: Catalysts
Merry Christmas everyone! I'm back with a new chapter just in time. Now this one I wanted to really nail. A lot happened and sadly we lost an amazing actor. Kevin Conroy the voice of Batman from some of my favorite DC shows and animated movies. As well as the voice of Spidey's mentor in this story. So sad but he was amazing. We find ourselves at the Midtown High Fall Formal, as Harry's limo pulled up Harry, Flash, Randy, Sally, Glory and Liz exited.
"Thanks for the ride Harry." Glory said.
"My chauffer is at our beck and call." Harry said.
"Don't forget to vote for King and Queen of the ball." The girl at the voting booth said.
Making their way over to vote, the 6 of them grabbed a ballot.
"Who are you voting for Glory?" Harry asks.
"Duh me and Liz obviously. Who else is worthy?" Flash asks.
"I think we know the answer to that one. Don't we Rand?" Sally hints.
"As far as I'm concerned Osborne can have it. His limo, his after party. Dude rules." Randy said much to Sally's annoyance.
"We're going to Le Hissyfitte. Best Restaurant in town. My treat." Harry said making them smile.
"Osborn you the man!" Flash said.
"You know it!" Harry said as they high-fived.
Walking in they saw Gwen and Eddie all dressed up.
"Hey Harry did you just get here?" Gwen asks but they walk past them.
"Hey let's get a picture to preserve this moment." Harry said.
"Not cool." Eddie said.
"That bowtie must block the blood flow to his ears…and his brain." Gwen said when Megan walked in wearing a green dress.
"Hey Gwen." Megan smiles.
"Megan." Gwen smiles happy one friend noticed her. "Love the dress."
"Thanks after the day I've had I needed some fun with friends." Megan smiles.
"Well who is this?" Eddie asks walking over.
"Oh Eddie this is Megan. She's our new friend. Megan this is our old friend Eddie." Gwen introduced.
"Well you don't look that old." Megan smirks making Eddie chuckle.
"Okay I like you." Eddie said.
"Hey. Hey Harry!" Megan waves but Harry was posing for the picture. "Hey what's with him?"
"He's trying to fit in with his new friends." Gwen mumbles.
Narrowing her eyes, Megan wasn't sure she was a fan of that.
As they posed for the picture, Harry was trying to butter them all up by telling them about the restaurant.
"What the? I don't believe it." Flash said in disbelief.
"It's true gold dust." Harry assures.
But they weren't talking about the food, they saw Jaden walking in with MJ.
Meanwhile, at the Daily Bugle, we see a man with black hair, gray tips, and a mustache trying to get ready for the night. This was J. Jonah Jameson.
"Miss Brant! This stupid bowtie is defective! I want a new one around my neck in 4 seconds!" Jameson said as Betty Brant helped him tie it and a his employees surround him.
"Come on Mr. Jameson. An investigation into the identity of Spider-Man, the man behind the mask." Ned said.
"And what if its Joe Schmoe? You want to make him a regular guy and no one wants to see a regular guy." Jameson said.
"Depends on what that guy does." Walking in we see a young man in a blue suit and medals. This was John Jameson and instantly Jameson smiles.
"John. Come give your old man a hug." Jameson smiles hugging him.
"Joseph Robertson, still keeping my pop in line?" John asks.
"I try." Joseph smiles.
"Betty Brant, Ned Lee, this is my son. John's going up in the Space Shuttle next week so I'm taking him out for one more night on the town. Or planet." Jameson smiles.
"You sure you want to go up into space? Especially after the Justice League fought off an alien invasion?" Ned asks.
"Aliens? Please. No brain sucker's gonna get my son. Come on John." Jameson said leading his son out.
"Hey Ned, that Spider-Man expose. Run with it. See where it leads." Joseph said making him smile.
Back at the dance, Jaden was introducing MJ around.
"Wow I'm glad Jaden managed to come with someone." Megan said.
"Yeah but…I really hoped when he came it would be with me." Gwen frowns wishing she had asked him when she did.
"How does a guy like Cooper land a girl like that?" Flash asks.
"Jaden cleans up well." Glory said and needless to say Liz was checking him out.
"You know it's not just the food. The view from the private room is amazing too." Harry said.
"Easy Osborn. Remember we got a big game coming up. We can't spend all that time at fancy restaurants." Flash said.
"He's right, we need all hands ready and on deck. So you better enjoy tonight while we can." Randy said making Harry a little nervous.
"I can't believe this! Geeks like Cooper don't get girls like that. I mean like us." Sally corrects. "She must have lost a bet or something."
"A bet. Of course." Flash realized.
"Mary Jane meet my friends Gwen, Eddie and Megan." Jaden introduced.
"Hi Jaden's talked a lot about you." Mary Jane said.
"So uh Mary Jane how did you and Jaden…you know?" Gwen asks.
"Well don't laugh but uh our moms kinda set us up." Mary Jane cringed.
"Wait you're that girl he was talking about?" Gwen realized.
"Yeah, don't be tough on Tiger, he was just being a nice guy and wanted us to try and make the best of this." MJ said.
Hearing this Gwen felt a little better.
"I'm gonna introduce her to Harry, you guys have fun." Jaden said.
"Oh we will." Megan smiles while Eddie just narrowed his eyes.
"Mary Jane Watson meet Flash, Liz, Rand, Sally, Glory and my best friend Harry." Jaden introduced. "They're popular."
"Ah the in crowd." MJ realized.
"Exactly." Sally glares.
"So Cooper you actually got yourself a date. You weren't joking earlier. I guess you won the bet, huh?" Flash smirks moving in.
"What did you bet?" MJ asks.
"Loser dresses up as a cheerleader for Halloween." Jaden said.
"When did you make it?" MJ asks.
"A few hours after I asked you." Jaden admits.
"Wait what?" Flash pauses.
"Well big guy I hope you got the legs for a skirt." MJ giggles.
"You set me up." Flash realized.
"Hey not my fault you didn't believe me." Jaden smirks.
"Come on tiger, let's have some fun." MJ said pulling him away leaving Flash to growl in anger.
"Uh shall we?" Harry asks looking at Glory.
"Maybe when everyone has a little less to prove." Glory said.
"Yeah less to prove. Want some punch?" Harry offers.
"Please." Glory nods.
As Jaden and MJ were about to head out to dance, Jaden looked over at Harry as he was getting his drinks and noticed Kenny walking toward Glory.
"Oh no. Harry." Jaden gasps realizing what was about to happen.
"Look Glory I know I was jerk but give me one more chance, please?" Kenny asks taking out a flower.
"Oh Kenny." Glory said touched.
Crushing the punch in his hands, Harry couldn't believe what he was seeing.
However, Jaden couldn't stay back and let this happen.
"I'm sorry I need a minute." Jaden said stepping away.
"Where are you going?" MJ asks.
"To do something really stupid." Jaden said before heading over. "Hey sorry to interrupt this but I need to talk to you like right now." Grabbing Glory's hand, Jaden pulls her into the hallway.
"What the hell Cooper?" Kenny growls.
"Jaden?" Harry said confused.
Once they entered the hall, Jaden let her go.
"Hey what was that about?" Glory asks.
"Look I'm sorry about that and I know this isn't any of my business but please don't do this to Harry. Before you decide to go back to Kong all I ask is that you wait until the dance is over." Jaden begs confusing her.
"What?" Glory asks.
"Look I've known Harry for years he's a great guy. Sure he's sounding a little braggy but that's just because he's nervous. He's been talking about coming here with you all day. I've never seen him this pumped before." Jaden said.
"Really?" Glory said surprised.
"Look I'm not asking that you choose Harry over Kong but you came to this dance with Harry. At least give him a chance." Jaden said.
"You really care about your friend huh?" Glory asks. "You know ever since he joined the team he's barely hung out with you."
"Yeah well that's the thing with friends you're there for them no matter what." Jaden smiles.
"I guess I can give Harry until the end of the dance." Glory smiles. "He must be a good guy if he has a friend willing to go this far for him."
"You won't regret it." Jaden said.
As they made their back to the dance, Jaden really hoped Harry got back soon.
Meanwhile, at OSCORP, Otto Octavius was making his way through the lab.
"Hello?" Looking around Otto thought he heard a noise. "Is someone there?"
Turning around he jumps startled by his own reflection.
"Look at yourself Otto. You're afraid of your own shadow. Next, you'll be seeing gremlins in the machines or little green men." Otto said when he heard a noise.
Turning around he saw a man with green skin a creepy goblin-like mask and purple armor riding a high-tech glider.
"Oh no the glider! That's Mr. Osborn's Tech-flight glider!" Otto panics but the man just cackles manically before flying out the window.
In a small sketchy part of town, we see 3 criminals inside an apartment building trying to break open a safe.
"All I'm saying is I could have cracked it open there." One said using a crowbar to try and open a safe.
"Cops would have cracked you open before that. Cops or Spider-Man." The second said. "Look Hammerhead is waiting. The Big Man wants his cut. Forget the crowbar and just blow it up."
"I outta blow you up." The first thug said when suddenly their door was blown down and the Green Man floated in.
"Did someone mention explosives?" He asks.
"Get the freak!" The first guy ordered but he took the other 2 crooks down with ease. "Uh I mean get the freak anything he wants."
"What I want is your undying loyalty. Or the dying kind. The Green Goblin is nothing if not flexible." He declares.
Putting a small bomb to the safe, Green Goblin blows the lid open revealing all the cash money inside.
"Appreciate the help but we work for the big man. We switch loyalties and we might as well put the toe tags on ourselves." The second crook said.
"I'm good with knots too, as for the Big Man the party's over." Green Goblin said taking out a bomb shaped like a pumpkin.
Across town at Tombstone's building, we see a big party going on with a band and tons of guests including Jameson and his son.
"As many of you know I'm L. Thompson Lincoln. Thank you for coming to support the Lincoln Dynamic Youth Center." Tombstone said as the crowd applauded him.
"Some party eh Johnny boy?" Jameson smiles.
"It's great pop, but I'll be honest I was hoping for a night with just you, me, and a rare steak." John admits.
Seeing his son wasn't that interested Jameson smiles.
"Then come on, Lincoln has enough of the Bugle's money. We can be at Luigi's in 88 seconds." Jameson said heading to the elevator when it opened revealing a thug in a pumpkin mask.
"Sorry Elevator's closed." He said aiming a gun at him.
From the stairs, the other two goons in pumpkin masks came in.
"Stairs too." One said.
"Course you could try a window." He said when Goblin flew through the window startling everyone as he cackled making his way towards Tombstone.
"Hello. Good evening. I am the Green Goblin and I'm looking for the Big man." He declares.
"Sir I don't know who you are—" Tombstone starts.
"Of course you don't. That's the whole point of the mask genius." Goblin mocks. "But I know who you are crime king. So step down or I start sharing secrets."
"You're making an enormous mistake. Security, this man is obviously troubled. Take care of him." Tombstone orders.
Coming to their bosses' aid, several goons pulled out tasers.
"Still hiding behind an army of thugs huh?" Goblin mocks.
As they all opened fire Goblin grabbed them by the strings and took the shock laughing manically as all the thugs ended up getting tazed as well. The only difference is Goblin was still standing, they weren't.
Flying around on his glider, Goblin jumps onto the chandelier.
"He swings through the air. Dishing all kinds of fear. This daring Goblin on the big chandelier!" Goblin sang.
Looking around John elbows one goon and takes his gun.
"Dad we need to get everyone—" Before he could finish Goblin blasts the gun out of his hand making John cringe in pain.
"Johnny!" Jameson gasps holding his son close.
"Now, now stay put or else." Goblin threatens jumping back down onto his glider.
"There's no need to threaten my guests." Tombstone said.
"There is if I want witnesses, Big Man." Goblin points out.
"You okay Johnny?" Jameson asks.
"I'm fine pops." John assures.
Taking out an earpiece Jameson called his office.
Back at the dance, as Jaden and MJ danced he suddenly heard a ringing.
Reaching into his pocket he pulled out his phone only to see it was silent. Reaching into his other pocket, Jaden pulled out the Spider-Wave and saw a police warning.
Cringing Jaden held his phone up to MJ meaning he got a call.
Smiling she gestured for him to go answer it.
Walking out Jaden opened the alert to see Jameson's call being patched through.
"Some maniac is attacking the Charity event. Get your butts over here now." Jameson said making Jaden cringe.
"Suddenly I'm glad I didn't take that job working for him." Jaden said putting it away.
Making her way to the snack table, MJ saw Glory and Kenny talking.
"Sorry Kenny but I need a little time to figure things out." Glory said.
"But a few minutes ago you were so happy." Kenny said confused.
"Yeah I'm happy you apologized but I came here with Harry today. You're just gonna have to wait." Glory said walking away leaving Kenny in the corner alone and confused.
"Did you just say no to a football player?" MJ asks walking over.
"Temporarily. So what do you think of Midtown High?" Glory asks.
"Seems like my old school. Basic Brain Pit." MJ shrugs.
"Well we also have the top theater magnet in the state." Glory points out.
"Theater huh?" MJ said.
Nearby, Jaden looked at Megan and tapped his forehead telling her to link up.
'What's up?' Megan asks.
'Trouble any chance I can ask you to keep an eye on things here?' Jaden thought.
'Don't worry I'll man down the fort here.' Megan nods.
'You rock M'Gann.' Jaden smiles before walking over to the table. "Listen I'm sorry but my boss just called me. He needs me to help with something important and if I don't I might get fired."
"Well don't let me hold you up. Just hurry back Jaden you owe me one more dance." MJ smiles.
"Really? Oh man thanks MJ I promise I'll be back as soon as I can." Jaden said running out.
Pausing Gwen walked over.
"What happened?" Gwen asks.
"Work. Sounded important." Megan said dropping in.
"Ditched by the King of the Geeks. That must sting." Sally mocks.
"Jaden's no geek. He's actually really sweet." Glory said getting their attention.
"Jaden? Sweet? Glory are you okay?" Sally asks in disbelief.
"Look I mean it. I was about to dump Harry for Kenny but just before I did Jaden came over and talked to me, he told me how much this meant to Harry and that I should give him a chance. Even after Harry's showboating Jaden still cares about his best friend. That says a lot." Glory smiles.
Hearing that MJ, Gwen, Liz and even Megan couldn't help but smile.
"Well if I can't dance with Jaden I guess I'll have to dance with…Randy was it?" MJ asks stealing Sally's date.
"Very." He smiles leading her out onto the dance floor.
Back at the Charity event, Tombstone and the Goblin were staring each other down.
"What do you want?" Tombstone asks.
"So the whole wanting to destroy you and take over your empire thing wasn't clear? Darn." Goblin pouts.
"Uh hey excuse me." Looking up everyone saw Spider-Man by the hole Goblin made. "So is this party invite only or can I just drop in?"
"Spider-Man?" Tombstone, Goblin and Jameson said surprised.
"What's this? Your latest project turned rogue on you?" Spider-Man asks.
"I have no idea who this is. But he is not my employ." Tombstone said.
"Well either way I'm gonna kick his ass like he is one of yours." Spider-Man said.
"Hello! I'm right here. You're both so rude." Goblin said.
"Hey don't get me wrong pal I don't mind if you mess with Tomby over there but don't drag innocent people into this. That sends very mixed signals for me." Spider-Man said shrugs.
"Hmm that is quite a puzzle." Goblin said floating up to meet him. "But the Green Goblin has a solution. You and I join forces. Consider what we could accomplish together. We could rule New York!" He laughs.
"Wow I'd settle for just Manhattan, but uh…I'm gonna have to say no. I've already got a team in mind and you're too psychotic to be a part of it." Spider-Man said.
"Oh well your loss of life!" Pointing his fingers at Spider-Man, Green Goblin fires forcing him to jump down.
Firing multiple webs, Spider-Man tried to trap him, but the Goblin flew around avoiding all of them.
Flying in, Goblin shoots at Spider-Man, but the webhead was just as fast as him.
Firing a web at a table, Spider-Man throws it at Goblin who whacks it away.
Using this chance, Goblin rams into Spider-Man sending him flying out a new hole in the window.
As he plummeted to the ground, Spider-Man fires a web and swings back in.
"Okay where's that Rude Green Dude?" Spider-Man asks looking around.
"Present and accounted for." Goblin cackles taking out a pumpkin bomb.
Throwing it at him, Spider-Man narrowly dodges the attack and leaps onto the rails.
Taking out more gadgets these ones had sharp edges.
"Geez if you worked for Santa you would be so fired." Spider-Man said dodging them.
Leaping down onto a table, Spider-Man flings multiple dishes and a chocolate cake at Goblin.
Flying out of the way Goblin dodges the silverware and the cake ends up coming down on Jameson.
"Spider-Man!" Jameson snaps.
"Oh man sorry, but you know what you and I really need to talk about those articles you've made about me." Spider-Man said noticing who it was.
"Look out!" John points.
Turning around Spider-Man saw Green Goblin fly in at him.
Doing a backflip, Spider-Man narrowly dodges the attack.
Throwing a gadget at him, the Goblin slices the logo on Spider-Man's suit.
"Hey! If you're not gonna respect me at least respect the suit you Elf on the Shelf Reject. Now I'm warning you. Stand down." Spider-Man orders.
"Sorry but the Green Goblin doesn't take orders from insects. The Green Goblin swats them into oblivion!"
"Get your facts right Gobby! Spiders are arachnids not insects." Spider-Man said as Goblin threw another bomb at him.
Grabbing a tray lid, Spider-Man whacks it back into the air causing it to explode.
'Man I hope Megan and the others are having a better night than me.' He thought.
Back at the dance, everyone was gathered around to see who would be the King and Queen.
"Alright students the votes are for the King and Queen of the ball. Your King is…Flash Thompson."
"That's my man." Kenny said as he and Randy high-fived said jock before he made his way onto the stage.
"And your queen is…uh "Red Haired girl who came with Jaden Cooper?" Is that right?" He read.
Much to everyone's shock, Mary Jane made her way on stage.
Needless to say Liz and Sally were not thrilled about this.
"Well this is unexpected." Megan said.
"I know it sounds petty but seeing Jaden's date crowned alongside Flash makes me smile." Gwen admits looking at Eddy.
"Still I would think after Jaden's little stunt with Glory he'd have gotten a few votes." Eddy said looking around. "Hey speaking of any word on him or Harry?"
Pausing both girls shook their heads.
"Well wherever they are they better hurry back." Eddy said.
At the other party, the fight between Spider-Man and the Green Goblin was getting messy.
As Spider-man fires a web at him to try and catch him, Goblin throws his gadgets cutting through the web and knocking Spider-Man into a food table.
"May I see your invitation, Spider-Man? Otherwise, I'll have to ask you to leave." Goblin asks.
"Leave now? But I haven't even gotten dessert yet?" Spider-Man asks getting up.
Flying in Goblin threw multiple pumpkin stars at him, but Spider-Man dodges them and lands behind him on his glider.
"Ooh. Did you want a ride? Keep our guests comfy boys. I'll be back in a New York minute." Goblin cackled before he and Spider-Man flew out the window.
"Okay Gobby who the hell taught you how to fly?" Spider-Man asks as they flew around wildly.
As Spider-Man tried to hang on, Goblin knocked him off.
Firing a web, Spider-Man swung to safetly but when he tried to fire another nothing came out.
'At least this time I'm prepared.' Spider-Man thought before reaching to his belt and taking out another cannister. "Hanging out with Batsy is really starting to rub off on me.'
Loading it in, Spider-Man avoided falling to the ground, unfortunately, he couldn't avoid the Goblin ramming into him.
"You know the old saying if you can't join them, beat them!" Goblin said throwing his pumpkin weapons at him.
"How can you beat me if you can't even hit me?" Spider-Man asks swinging out of the way.
"Well practice makes perfect." Goblin said flying after him.
"Personally I'd rather not make this a thing." Swinging through a construction site, Spider-Man fires a web and does a loop de loop and nails Goblin the chest.
As he flies back towards a building, Goblin jumps over it while his glider went clean through it and he safely landed on the other side.
"Wow that was impressive actually." Spider-Man admits.
"You think that's impressive? Check this out." Cackling a blade came out of Green Goblin's glider and he flew in.
Scaling the wall, Spider-Man looked down to see Goblin gaining on him, but just before impact, Spider-Man backflips off the building and fires a web at Goblin's face.
Yanking him in, Spider-Man fires multiple webs trapping him but the Goblin just cackled madly.
"I fail to see what's so funny." Spider-Man said.
"Just the special fire and brimstone pumpkin I left back at the party as a present for our friend Mr. Lincoln. Any minute now the crème de le crème of New York City is going to paint the town red. Well the ballroom anyway." Goblin laughs maniacally.
Firing a web, Spider-Man swung back to the party as fast as he could.
At the party, the thugs had their weapons pointed at the crowd.
"What do we do?" One asks.
"Hold things down until the Goblin comes back." The other said.
"He's not coming back." Spider-Man said swinging in. "He put a bomb in this room and it's gonna go off any minute! Clear the room!"
As the thugs fired on him, Spider-Man fires webs yanking them out of their hands.
"That includes you." Spider-Man said.
"We work for the Goblin." One said.
"Every fragment of you? Because when that bomb goes off you're dead too." Spider-Man warns.
"You're bluffing."
"Is that a risk you're willing to take? Especially when you've taken so many." Tombstone asks.
Almost immediately the thugs ran down the stairs as fast as they could.
"Everyone to the stairs! If the bomb goes off no one is safe!" John points as everyone ran to them.
As John and his dad were the last to run out, Spider-Man looked around.
"Okay if I were an evil pumpkin where would I be?" Spider-Man asks.
Yanking the clothes off of the tables, Spider-Man flipped them over when he heard a noise.
Looking over he saw Tombstone searching as well.
"What are you still doing here?" Spider-Man asks.
"My party, my mess." Tombstone said.
As John made his way down the stairs, he stopped remembering when Goblin was on the chandelier.
"The Chandelier." John realized before turning around.
"John don't! We can still get that steak!" Jameson said following after him.
"Spider-Man! Chandelier!" John points.
"Thanks now get out of here!" Spider-Man said jumping up.
Looking inside he saw the pumpkin bomb blinking rapidly meaning it was about to go off.
Firing two webs, Spider-Man slingshots the pumpkin out of the building just as it went off making it explode outside.
"Phew. Just under the wire." Spider-Man sighed when Tombstone applauded him. "You know getting applause from you is not as nice as it seems."
"Perhaps, but someone should point out I offered you a handsome salary to do just the sort of thing you did tonight. And instead, you've done the Big Man's business for free. That my young heroic friend is what grownups called irony." Tombstone smirks.
"I didn't do it for you, I did it for the people that were held hostage here. You just happened to be in the crowd." Spider-Man said.
"Whatever helps you sleep at night." Tombstone said walking away.
Outside, Jameson was calling the Bugle.
"Robbie have I got a headline for you! My son saves New York City." Jameson said excited.
"Uh dad, there will be an investigation, they might scrub me from the mission." John points out quickly.
"Scratch that headline give the credit…to Spider-Man." Jameson mutters. "To Spider-Man confound it!"
Swinging out Spider-Man was about to bring in Green Goblin but saw he had cut himself free and was gone.
"This day just keeps getting worse and worse." Spider-Man groans.
Back at Midtown High, we see Harry panting heavily in the bathroom as he reached into his pocket and pulls out a beaker labeled OSCORP, GLOUBIN GREEN.
As he chugged the contents of the bottle down he made his way out to see Glory waiting by the door.
"G-Glory?" Harry said surprised.
"Harry there you are." Glory said walking to him. "I've been looking all over for you. What happened?"
"I uh just needed some time alone. Where's Kenny? I thought you two got back together?" Harry asks.
"Hmm we almost did, but then a friend of yours made me realize that maybe I should give you a chance to prove yourself. What do you say you and I get you cleaned up and have that after-party?" Glory suggests.
"R-Really?" Harry smiles.
"Yeah but maybe somewhere small, you don't need to go all big and flashy to try and impress me Harry." Glory said.
"Well I do know a pretty nice restaurant. It's not the best in town, but it has good desserts." Harry offers.
"Sounds good to me." Glory said as they walked out.
As they did Glory reached out and took Harry's hand.
"So uh which friend of mine talked to you?" Harry asks.
"I'll tell you when we get there." Glory smiles.
Walking down one hall, they didn't see Jaden run past them.
Panting heavily Jaden saw the dance was almost over and MJ was dancing with someone else.
"Aw man. So much for a fun night." Jaden groans.
"Hey why so down?" MJ asks walking up to him. "I saved the last dance for you."
"Really?" Jaden smiles.
"You've earned it. Especially after what you did." MJ smiles taking it and lifting him up.
"Uh did what exactly?" Jaden asks nervously.
"Glory told us what you did for Harry. You really are something else Jaden." MJ said.
"I uh I don what I can." Jaden smiles.
As a slow song played Jaden and MJ danced to it.
Even if today had its troubles, he made it through and even managed to have a little fun.
Meanwhile, in Gotham City, we see Bruce Wayne walking through a cemetery before stopping at the grave of Thomas and Martha Wayne.
Putting flowers down by them Bruce lets out a sigh.
"Sorry I haven't visited in a while. I took on another one. This one is a little different from the others, I don't know if you would like him but the kid has heart that's for sure. He and I seem to make a pretty good team, but he's got a ways to go.
"Master Bruce." Turning around Bruce saw Alfred waiting for him by the car. "Time to go."
Nodding Bruce turned to the grave and smiles. "I'll come back sooner next time."
Making his way back to the car, they drove back to the mansion.
"So Alfred what's on my schedule for today?" Bruce asks.
"You have to prepare for a board meeting coming up not to mention there is a mafia meeting the following evening both of which require plenty of rest." Alfred said.
Entering the batcave, the two of them see a young boy with black hair in front of the computer. This was Tim Drake.
"Hey look who's back." Tim said spinning around.
"Tim shouldn't you be studying?" Bruce asks.
"I finished already." Tim said.
"What about your training drills?" Bruce asks.
"Yep. Only got hit a few times." Tim said.
"So there's nothing I need to know?" Bruce crosses his arms.
"Well actually some guy named Jaden Cooper has left you a few messages." Tim said getting their attention.
Walking to the computer, Bruce clicks a button.
"Uh hey Mr. Wayne it's me. Jaden I uh know you like to be the guy who calls but listen things are a little crazy on my end and you might be the only one who can honestly say if I made the right choice or not. Call me back…Uh just to be clear it's Jaden Cooper." The first message said before ending.
"Well he certainly sounds like a fun guy." Tim chuckles.
"Both messages are from today." Alfred noticed.
"2 in one day? He must really like you." Tim said while Bruce just rolls his eyes.
"Uh hello, Mr. Wayne it's uh me again Jaden Cooper. Listen I know I called you today already but something even crazier happened. Some psycho was flying around blowing things up. And he's got this creepy laugh that just sends chills down your spine. Any chance you might know him? Call me back or something. Bye." The second message ended.
"This can't be right." Bruce said typing furiously.
"You don't think he meant our maniacal bomb-throwing psycho do you?" Alfred asks.
"Joker in New York City? Now that's an emergency." Tim panics.
"It's not the Joker." Bruce said getting their attention.
"How do you know?" Tim asks.
"Because he hasn't broken out of Arkham yet." Bruce declares.
"So if it's not the Joker then who could he be talking about?" Alfred asks.
"I don't know, and I don't like it." Bruce said.
