Circuits & discrepancies
Hello, just so you're aware this chapter was written before I posted my first chapter so I'm not able to respond to reviews with this chapter. Anyway, something I forgot to mention on the last chapter's notes, the original Alexander, which is what I'm calling him till I can think of something better, is familiar with Type-Moon, the current Alexander is not, in fact he hasn't watched any anime. And since I know at least one person will ask even though it would not matter to this story, the fate route is Unlimited blade works, meaning this will take place in a world going down the UBW route for the Fuyuki Grail war, well except for the fact Alexander exist in this universe, and before anyone says anything, Alexander will not be summoning a servant and joining the grail war, it's unlikely he'll even go to Fuyuki, wait Zeltretch exist, so he might end up in Fuyuki, but he will not be joining. Oh yeah just to confirm Alexander is 15, but since this story will be going throughout the years he will be ageing, and finally Shipping just because I know some people will wonder no Alexander will not be shipped with any of Rin's Harem, I.e Rin, Shirou, Sakura, Luvia, saber, rider. Ext and no he does not have the harem protagonist skill, though he might qualify for Battle continuation at the lowest possible rank, he's very stubborn.
Alexander's residence, 4 days till Friday, September 4th 2000
Inside a warmly lit library, rest a pile of books covering an entire part of the table they rest on, and behind the pile sits Alexander, currently Reading through Every book recommended in his other self's book. The books on the table mainly consist of the basics of mage-craft, the study of runes, bounded field's, Heroic spirts & Noble Phantasm's, and of course Dead Apostles. Alexander has been spending the majority of his time either reading or exploring his new house, which consist of many different rooms filled with random items, the house itself has three bed-rooms on the top floor, one being Alexander's room, another being the room filled with the exact same outfit, all of which are too large for Alexander, and finally the Library where Alexander currently resides, and is currently trying and falling at Activating his Magic-Circuits, Sighing at another failed Attempt Alexander grabs yet another book on activating Circuits, this being the thirtieth book he's tried, he opens the book to find it hollowed out and inside is a small jewel and an envelope, knowing this to be Zeltretch Alexander sighs once again, before grabbing the jewel and envelope and opening it
Hello Alexander, if you're reading this that means you're a failure as a magnus, fret not, for inside this gem is a small bit of prana to help jump start your circuits, just picture you're chosen trigger while holding this jewel and imagine pulling some prana out.
Alexander very frustrated decides to get this over with and picks up the jewel and pictures his trigger, that being a black nothingness and slowly a light piercing through it. And as he pictures this, through Alexander's shirt along his shoulder's glows circuit like patterns. Alexander Clearly Feeling prana flowing through his circuits for the first time freezes as he realizes something, quickly grabbing a book detailing the original Alexander's thoughts he reads through one passage of it.
Possessing 17 Circuits of above average quality,
Reading this same passage a few times Alexander mutters under his breath
"I have one more?" Alexander mutters to himself, confused as he reads the paper and counting the number, he feels.
After finally giving up on trying to figure out why he has a different number of Circuits, Alexander spends the next half-hour Reading through and using the most basic Mage-craft, Structural-analyses, only gleaming the dimensions of the items, before he suddenly rises from his chair and rushes out of the room and down the stairs, and slamming the front door open, to see Luvia, standing Infront of the gate to the house.
"Oh Luvia... sorry you tripped the alarm" Alexander says not really tired after running down the stairs, seeing him Luvia responds
"Ahh yes, mister- Alexander, quite impressive it's only been two days since I last saw you and you've already set up a bounded-field." Luvia praises after catching herself on Alexander's name
"Yeah... Zelretch set it up temporally, I have to put up the permeant one later." Alexander says dismissing her praise before asking
"So, is there any particular reason you're here?" He asks while walking towards the gate, Luvia composing herself says
"Yes, there is, I was wondering if you'd like some help with your studies?" Luvia asks offering her help while waiting for Alexander. Alexander unknowing to any ulterior motive's answers
"Huh?... Sure come in." he says as he opens the gate, and seeing Luvia, who's wearing another blue dress
"Come in?!" Luvia Questions clearly shocked and just standing at the gate
"Is there an issue?" Alexander asks very confused
"That's your workshop!" Luvia states while pointing to the house
"So?" Alexander asks still very confused
"So! Other Magi aren't supposed to enter your workshop!" Luvia says clearly frustrated and shocked, taking a full five seconds before realizing what she's talking about Alexander responds
"Oh... the full house isn't my workshop, just the basement." He says after realizing what she's talking about, Sighing Luvia just walks by and grabs Alexander by the collar and says
"You're hopeless, I'm going to have to beat Mage educate into your skull." Luvia says extremely frustrated while dragging Alexander inside, with some help from reinforcement Mage-craft
Scene change
Standing infront of the seated Alexander Luvia is finishing her lecture on mage educate with
"And that is why it's a great insult to be invited into a Mage's workshop." Luvia says finished explaining to Alexander
"Okay now that that's finished take off your shirt" Luvia orders while pointing at Alexander
"I'm going to trust you have a reason for this that isn't sexual." Alexander states while removing his sweater, Luvia clearly offended says
"of course, I do, how presumptions of you to assume I have anything indecent in mind." Luvia says very upset before putting her hand onto Alexander's chest and mutters something under her breath as circuit patterns glow down her arm and onto Alexander's chest.
"Impressive, for a first generation, having eighteen Magic circuits alone is rare, then There's their quality, it's better than most fifth-generation Magi." Luvia says truly impressed with Alexander's Circuit's
"While not as good as mine, you're only a first generation magnus, so it's very impressive, I wonder how well your family will do if they keep this quality." Luvia says before stopping for a few seconds and looking back to Alexander
"Alexander you wouldn't by chance be interested in providing the Edelfelt family with an heir, would you?" she asks causing Alexander to sputter for a few seconds before managing to get out
"What?! But... I'm sorry but we're both very young and I've only known you for a few days." Alexander gets out very quickly before slowly composing himself
"I did not expect you to do so now, I'm still unsure of your talents as a Magnus, if there anything like your Circuits then I feel like it will be a good arrangement." Luvia explains slightly disappointed
"now, let us move onto Mage-Craft, you'll be more suited to a different type of Mage-Craft depending on your element and origin are you aware of your element?" She asks already aware of what it is from her earlier scan
"Ether, right?" Alexander asks remembering what the book said his element is, Luvia surprised doesn't let it show and nods before saying
"Yes, so your more suited to non-elemental mage-craft, such as runes and certain curses, the very first mage-craft any magnus learns is Structural-analysis, and reinforcement, I assume you know Structural-analysis." Luvia says getting a nod in reply, grabbing a book She continues
"Seeing as how it is a fairly useless mage-craft, the main thing it is used for is reinforcement, by using Structural-analysis you look for the cracks in an object and fill them with mana, thus making the item a better version of that item." Luvia says as she reinforces the book, raising his hand to interrupt her Alexander says
"Structural-analysis is useless? Being able to know the exact structure of an object its weak points, age, history, creating methods, seem very useful." He says in agreement with what his book says.
"Where are you getting that from, Structural-analysis is not that useful it's nearly impossible to do any of that with it." Luvia says confused before Alexander hands her another book this one open to a certain page, Luvia taking the book reads it for a few seconds, before she says
"This, is, brilliant your other self-came up with this?" She asks getting another nod
"Amazing, while it would take years to get it to this level it's worth it, you could figure out the mysteries of different artifacts with this, it would make any dissection much easier and efficient, the usefulness in jewel-craft, and imaging the battle applications, though I'm not too sure on your other Self's tendency to purposely overflow an item with reinforcement, the feedback is usually not worth it." Luvia rants after reading some of the book, handing the book back Luvia sits down and says
"You and I are going to be practicing Structural-analysis and Reinforcement, for the rest of this session, I will not be satisfied till you can safely use self-reinforcement." Luvia declares extremely exited
The next morning, September 5th 2000
Currently inside his kitchen Alexander is pouring a cup of coffee, turning behind him to the very exhausted Edelfelt.
"Would you like some coffee?" He asks before yawning, and taking a sip of his drink
"Did you just burn yourself?" Luvia asks tiredly in response to Alexander drinking freshly brewed coffee, Alexander ignoring her question says
"I did buy some tea for guest, if you'd prefer that." Alexander offers, while grabbing a tea cup from one of his shelves
"That would be delightful." She responds still tired, Alexander nodding he grabs the kettle and begins to make tea, while doing so Luvia starts reading through the book Zelretch gave Alexander
Reinforcement & Alteration
Reinforcement is the act of filling cracks in an item perceived through Structural-analyses to make said item a better version of itself, it is one of the most basic and underestimated Mage-Crafts there are. Its use but more importantly Alteration a different method of using reinforcement is by far one of the most useful Mage-Crafts there are, from the simple mystic code crafting applications to the more difficult combat applications, even its healing potential of forcing broken bones and torn ligaments to mend, though I would not recommend the latter if better options are available.
Stopping her review of Alexanders work, Luvia looks up towards Alexander who is finishing up making the tea, and says
"Alexander" Luvia says softly getting an acknowledging hum from Alexander continues with
"Your other self is insane, who in their right mind would use alteration to heal!" Luvia says beginning her lecture on the idiocy of using alteration to mend the body, going on till Alexander sets the cup of tea Infront of her, stopping her lecture she starts drinking the tea, setting down the cup she says
"Remind me to make sure you learn healing Mage-Craft" Luvia orders while enjoying her tea
"Thank you for the tea, may I ask? Are you aware of what the Kaleidoscope wants of you?" Luvia questions having calmed down, continuing drinking his coffee Alexander answers.
"I know he wants me to study some item of his, not sure what but if I pass his test Friday I'll find out." Alexander says answering the best he can
"Wait test?" Luvia question receiving a nod from Alexander causing her to pale rapidly.
"Alexander... please excuse me put I'm going to need to intrude on your hospitality." Luvia says clearly afraid, causing Alexander to let out a confused and worried
"Luvia?" He asks in regards to Luvia's blatant fear, Luvia puts her hand on the table and says
"Alexander, the people after Zelretch's test, are all ways horrified and refuse to talk about them, and those are the ones who pass them." She says trying to get the point across
"You only have three days to be ready to pass the test. You're going to need all the help you can get." Luvia states while searching for something on her person
"um, it can't be that bad right?" Alexander asks slightly afraid because her reaction
"It's far, far worse" Luvia says truthfully
Time skip, 1 day till Friday, September 7th 2000
What followed after Wednesday morning conversation, consisted of, Luvia letting her servants know what she was going to be doing for the next few days, her commandeering the guest room, and a grueling course on Mage-Craft, from the most basic uses, to advance concepts such as the second magic itself. Though that was what Luvia taught Alexander, he himself in fear of the possible repercussions of him failing Zelretch's test did more studies after Luvia deemed it enough for the night, mainly focusing on the books Zelretch gave him. All this leading up to the final day till Friday.
Currently, not within Alexander's home, but in a sparring ring in the Clock Tower, Luvia dragged, Alexander to this ring, after realizing that Zelretch may have the test be a trial by combat, so began the half-hour fight, of Luvia using Alexander as a punching bag, the spar currently stands with both, Alexander and Luvia standing, with Alexander being clearly more injured, huffing exhausted, Alexander says
"Why do I feel like you're very mad at me?" Alexander asks rhetorically, while side stepping a kick aimed for his face, pointing a finger at Alexander Luvia beings talking
"Trust me there is no other motive for this other than preparing you for whatever horror awaits you." She says as on her fingertip, a ball of black energy begins to form, Alexander not wanting to be hit by it again, charges her, going low to tackle her, only to receive a reinforced knee in the gut, knocking him down, with Luvia putting the curse against his throat ending the spar.
Getting up from the ground Alexander asks
"Are you sure it's a great idea to be training like this one day before the test?" he asks, while moving towards his water, Luvia following Alexander answers with
"No, it's not, but it is necessary, though I must say, lasting over thirty minutes without using any noticeable Mage-Craft is impressive, though I wasn't trying to kill you." Luvia says praising him. Reaching a bench at the side of the room Luvia sits down.
"Really? All those attacks to the head suggest otherwise." Alexander says sarcastically, before grabbing his water and drinking from it, scoffing Luvia responds
"Yet you evaded every attack aimed towards your head, and you took multiple Gandr's without getting sick." She retorts while wiping her forehead with a towel
"Gandr, that's a runic curse, right?" Alexander says asking for confirmation, getting a nod from Luvia before she continues with
"Yes, it's used to lower its targets physical abilities and usually makes them sick." Luvia says explain the curse. Getting up from the bench Luvia looks to Alexander and says
"I believe that's enough sparring for today; I suggest you get changed and head back." Luvia states while walking towards a changing room, nodding Alexander heads back to where he got changed
Line break
After changing Alexander leaves the room to find Luvia gone with a note simply saying, good luck on your test. Signed by Luvia after finishing the short note Alexander leaves the training area and makes his way through the halls of the Clock tower, avoiding the Magi moving about the halls till he reaches his home.
Opening the gate and moving along the short pathway to the door Alexander opens it, entering he takes off his coat and hangs it off the rack and moves further in, heading upstairs to the library, once in the room he heads to the table riddled with books, taking a book labeled the meanings and uses of Nordic runes Alexander finishes the day by studying, before heading to bed early prepared for his possible doom.
Only to be awakened three hours later at midnight by the Kidna*ahem* Magician of the second Magic himself Kischur Zelretch Schweinorg. Startling Alexander awake Zelretch Says "Alexander, it's time for your test." He says getting a groan and the middle finger from Alexander before he turns over and states
"Its way to early." he says uselessly, getting a "I said the test would start Friday and I meant Friday, so get up." Zelretch asks. Sighing once more Alexander gets up from the bed, and gets dragged by Zelretch into Alexander's Workshop. Getting down the stairs Alexander sits behind the desk, just before Zelretch drops a box onto the table.
"You're test." Zelretch says while gesturing towards the box, knowing better to ask to many questions Alexander opens the box, carefully taking a look inside Alexander confused lets out "A Gun?" as what at first glance looks to be a Beretta 92, with what looks like some kind of symbols carved into the gun along the slide and grip. Chuckling Zelretch answers
"Yes! It is a gun, but more importantly your test." He says, clearly waiting for more questions. Which he gets. "Why? Why is my test this gun" Alexander asks while going to pick it up, touching it he yanks it back at the sudden shock, shaking his hand as Zelretch answers
"Why? Simply what you now hold is the very first Mystic-Code your other self-crafted, as you can see its clearly in need of repairs, so I'm giving you three weeks to repair it. Do note that I will not except anything less than its original strength, I would be very disappointed if you fail this simple task." The magician says emphasizing the word Disappointed, before snapping his fingers and disappearing from the room.
Alexander now left alone in the room, holding the gun questions once more how his life turned to this and set out to fix this Mystic-Code, by doing the very first thing he could think of, Structural-Analysis. Unknowing of the bit of Prana left in the weapon.
Omake, Reflections
Inside the same office that he brought Alexander to Zelretch is standing by a window holding a glass filled with some amber drink, while looking out the window he starts mumbling
"Alexander, though you're most likely unable to hear me... the other you I brought him your pistol, I doubt he'll realize it's full power or that he'll do it justice, watching him struggle through this, not knowing who I was the second I spoke my name, it really sunk in that you're not the same, you knew, he didn't, I even considered giving him Gray Morality, just to give him a bit more protection... but where's the fun in that! Despite you're differences if he has the same tenacity that piqued my interest, I know he'll survive, he may even surpass you, not ending up the same man, or he could end up exactly the same, the anticipation is so exciting." Laughing once more Zelretch looks down pulling out something blocked by his form and mutters softly under his breath
"I know you'd be turning in your grave, Old friend." He says holding the item that caused him to bring in another Alexander.
And that's it. Okay big thing first since I know there will be someone who complains, Luvia basically asking Alexander to have sex, she did that for three reasons, one, Alexander has a connection to Zelretch, which makes him a target, so every Magi will either want to kill him, befriend him, or be too scared to do anything in fear of Zelretch. Two Alexander Magic-Circuits are amazing for a first generation, and its Type-moon that kind of Circuitry bodes well for any future generations. And lastly the same reason Luvia is attracted to Shirou, she would like to marry a quote-on-quote commoner, but is resigned to the fact she'll likely be married off to either create better heirs or to ensure the progress of her family. Meaning Alexander, a man with connections and the support of the Wizard Marchel, amazing circuits for a first generation and a commoner is like a dream come true. Okay with that out of the way, sorry for the lore dumps but that was to explain the concepts to anybody new or not that into Type-Moon. Though fans of Type-Moon might have noticed a few hints to something to keep it vague, yeah, I'm pulling an UBW, that's how I plan to explain him growing into being a magnus quicker than should be possible, don't worry it'll still be a very long-time till he reaches the point of not being a terrified teenager. Another short Omake, I'll hopefully get better before going on. Yes, the omake is cannon to the story, and yes Zelretch does view Alexander as a friend, mainly due to how entertaining he found him. Also, zero points to who can guess what the item is, and two for who can guess what Gray Morality is.
