As I said on the title this is me experimenting with characters and me trying to practice my writing. But if you do enjoy this I am willing to make more of these. Also I don't own Nier or Dead by Daylight they belong to their rightful owners. Any OC's that may be mentioned here are only mine.
As Phillip dropped the last survivor left in the trial next to the hatch, they looked up at him, thankful, before letting themselves drop into the humming pitch-black hatch. As soon as they disappeared, his vision faded to black, and he was once again in the endless fog of the Entity's realm. Once again, he was forced to wait for another trial, forced to kill again. He's tired of this, of this senseless killing; he wishes he could take everything back. To be given another chance, to be free of this hell. But no matter how much he begs, another trial will always begin. But at least he's lucky. If you can even call it that. He's seen other versions of himself. One disfigured and mad, covered and disfigured with blight serum, another in a suit, one covered in wax, and more so. And there were the other killers. An axe-wielding maniac woman, an insane doctor, an edgy teenager, and a samurai. But the two most terrifying would be the ghost girl and the walking pyramid-wearing monster.
But of course, they weren't the only killers here; he'd seen many types. Ranging from fantastical beasts to fallen angels and even a literal toy doll. What he sees here is nearly endless. Those he meets have managed to kill him successfully, but the Entity always brings him back to life. Releasing a sigh, Phillip thought since he was waiting to be put in another trial, he might as well rest for a bit. His feet are killing him, especially when he has to run over shattered glass, burnt wood, or rusty scrap. He should probably make an offering to the Entity, hoping it'll give him some shoes. At that, he did chuckle a bit at his own joke. It's probably not a good idea to waste an offering for some shoes, no matter how tempting it is. Sitting down, Phillip began looking at his feet and inspecting the damage from the previous trial. Some minor cuts and splinters from the pallets he kicked. It should be easy to patch up. Reaching for his pockets, he grabbed some tweezers he had found during some trials and began picking them out.
But as he was taking them out, he heard footsteps. Reaching quickly, he grabbed his weapon and turned around quickly to see who was there. In front of him stood a man, mostly a head smaller than him. He was wearing leather overalls and had tons of hooks stabbed into his right shoulder. He was also wearing a bone mask with a creepy smile on it. Keeping his weapon ready, Phillip calls out to the person.
"Evan?" Phillip called out, his voice raspy due to his damaged vocal cords. He hoped this was one of the many versions of him that wasn't hostile.
"Phillip." Said Evan, nodding to him. Releasing a sigh, Phillip lowered his weapon and sat on the floor. Evan soon joined in sitting with him, though Phillip heard a small hiss from him, mostly due to the hooks stabbed into him. Evan is one of the few killers here who haven't gone fully insane or do not wish to kill for the Entity willing. Though there have been a few who are incredibly loyal to them, one being an Egyptian woman.
"Anything interesting came up during your trials."
"Nothing, just a survivor I overheard saying they may have found a way out. But knowing the Entity, it's probably just messing with them." Humming at the information, Phillip continued to remove more splinters from his feet. "Also had an encounter with a singer."
"Oh, were they friendly?"
"No, they were fucking insane, son of bitch threw knives at me. But he was easy to put down." Phillip released a sigh at that; when he had encounters with lunatics, he always dreaded having to fight their cause. It meant he could die. He wouldn't mind death, but he hates when he dies and keeps coming back. Especially when those deaths are painful. Shivering, he remembered an encounter with that human-looking demon with pins on their head.
"Well, do you need anything from me? I did manage to scrounge up some bandages... Evan?" Turning to where Evan was sitting, he saw that he had disappeared, and all that was now left was the endless fog. "Damn, oh well, nothing I can do." When he was finished removing all the splinters from his feet, he bandaged them. Getting up, he tested the newly wrapped bandage and nodded.
Looking at the endless fog, he decided he might as well walk. Getting his weapon and his father's bell, Phillip began to wander aimlessly in the fog. As he trekked, he noticed the fog partway and clear, and soon, light began to hit him. Raising his hand to cover his face from the light, Phillip stops to slowly adjust to the new light. Once he adjusted, he looked at his new surroundings and stared in surprise. He no longer saw any wisps of fog; instead, he saw a ruined city filled with overgrown vegetation. Trees the size of the building and giant roots take over and block certain parts. But what got his attention more was the sun. The sun never existed in the realm of the Entity. Maybe faint light like a sunset but never full on day.
Shaking his head, Phillip went invisible and began exploring the place. "Maybe this is another one of its trials," he says to himself as he walks around in the spirit realm. Searching for any generator to patrol, Philip began to realize something. He hasn't seen a hook or walls to restrict him to the trail. Plus, he hasn't seen any auras of any generators. And was that a heard of moose? Phillip stopped and stared as he viewed the moose grazing in the overgrown grass of the city.
'This can't be real. It has to be a trick to make me mad, to punish me for thinking of fighting back. It has to be!' With these thoughts in his head, Phillip began running around the city looking for survivors, for anything. But as he continued to explore, his heart began beating with something he hadn't felt for a long, long time: hope. Exiting the spirit realm, Phillip went by a river and dropped next to it. Soon, he began crying, then crying turned to laughter, then to cheering as he realized he was finally free. Free from the trials, free from having to spill blood. Free to finally live without violence ever again.
Phillip soon calmed down and crawled over to the stream of water to check himself. Since being in the Entities realm, he has never had a reason to eat, drink, or sometimes even sleep. But now that he is free, he feels all his past sins returning to haunt him. So, for a while, Phillip curled up to himself and wept. He wept until his mind went numb, and his conscience soon left him as sleep swept over him.
When Phillip woke again, he saw the sun still in the sky. 'Hm, I must have not slept long.' He thought. Sitting upright, He begins planning what to do now that he is free. But that answer soon came to him as his stomach growled. Something he hadn't felt in a very long time, one that he was happy to feel again. "I guess hunting will have to do first. Then I'll see if any people are left in these ruins." But before he left to hunt, Philip quickly bent over the water and took some big gulps before crossing back into the spirit realm.
Phillip was tempted to hunt those mooses, but given their size and number, hunting something smaller was best. What precisely he didn't know. Philip also looked for the waters to see if they had fish. Then He came upon something that made him top. In the distance, he saw a group of weird-looking metal humanoids. Some were small, some had weapons, and one was probably his size, but they had a shield. He stared for a small while, wondering what they were. But his best hunch and most likely possibility is that they were machines... yeah, no, they're exactly that. But he didn't know if they were hostile, so thinking it was best to stay in the spirit realm, he continued to explore and find anything he could scavenge.
A week has passed since he's been freed, and Phillip still can't believe it. He has nightmares about this being a farce from the Entity, a trick. But every time Phillip wakes up, he's reminded that it isn't. Another thing he has discovered here is that the sun never sets. For the past week, Phillip had never seen the sun move; he was confused, but since he still hadn't found anyone to ask questions, he just kept it in the back of his head to ask later. A plus that he's also discovered here is that the powers given to him by the Entity have gained some more strength. Whenever he's gotten injured or cut, if he retreats to the spirit realm, he has been able to heal quite quickly. And he is faster in it as well.
But the downside of being in this world is that there's barely any food. The fish here has been feeding him quite well, and they're easy to hunt, but he knows he'll get sick of eating sooner or later. Both figuratively and literally. So, as his next goal, he has been gathering materials to make a bow to hunt the mooses and boars he's seen grazing around here. Which has been easy for him due to all the resources he has managed to scavenge around here. Plus, the dead machine bodies he found will make good arrowhead material. All he needs are tools to make them. Getting up, Phillip grabbed his bell, rang it cloaking, and let himself wander around invisible.
(Resistance camp)
Anemone had been reading some reports for her resistance members when everyone there heard a bell ringing and a woosh accompanying it. For the past week, she and other androids have heard those sounds, and whenever they have tried to find the source, they come up empty-handed. So, as a solution, Anemone has put up some resistance members to monitor certain areas where the sounds are most commonly heard.
