What's up, everyone! This is GKC here bringing you a new story set in Yu-Gi-Oh GX.
Now for the disclaimer: I do not own, except my OCs, Yu-Gi-Oh. All rights belong to Konami.
Now let's get this party started… BEGIN!
Chapter 1: Fictional Dream…or is it?
"YES! Suck it, fool!" I exclaimed as my Lunalight Leo Dancer scored the finishing blow, beating my opponent on Master Duel.
Stupidly enough, they were running a Cyber Dragon Deck with that damn Nova Xyz Monster. But I managed to lock that particular card down with a well-placed Trap before it could use its effect to steal my monsters. It was just a matter of getting the right card, playing the right strategy, and the rest is history.
I'm not usually this competitive in Master Duel. I just felt like dueling someone to pass the time.
Or maybe it's because I've been rewatching past Yu-Gi-Oh series like 5D's and GX. Been a while since I last watched the latter but I feel like getting back into it. I remembered watching the English Dub as a kid and Jaden was easily my favorite character, mostly because he just liked to have fun. And partly because his favorite monsters happened to be Elemental HEROes.
But then again, after the years rolled by and new cards as well as Summoning Methods came out, standard Decks from the anime series just weren't cutting it. In fact, I've been making multiple Decks that counteract each archetype or specific Summoning Method. It helps when you also do research on specific archetypes and what hurts them the most when it comes to strategy.
Anyways, might as well start the show and-
Oh…my aching head…
What happened? Did I fall asleep before I could watch the episode?
"Hey, kid," I felt a gentle yet firm hand on my shoulder nudge me. "Come on, you're up."
"Huh?" I said, rubbing my eyes while adjusting my glasses. When my vision adjusted, I was staring at a pretty blonde haired girl wearing a blue-white school uniform. Huh, why does she look familiar? Wait a second… "Up for what?"
The girl rolled her eyes, which were a startling hazel, and gestured down, "It's your turn to do your examination Duel. You know, the thing you need to pass to get into Duel Academy?"
…
…
…
What?
"I'm sorry, I think I misheard you. Did you say Duel Academy?" I asked, apprehensive.
"Yes. I said Duel Academy."
…
…
…
Shit, I got fucking isekai'd…
…and I happened to be in the one anime I barely remember.
Wonderful.
"Okay, just checking." I said, getting up and looking at my current attire which consisted of a simple white t-shirt, a gray jacket, blue jean pants, and white-black sneakers. There was also… Oh my God, it's an actual Duel Disk!?
Picking it up, I examined the device for a bit, noting that it was vastly different from the ones I remember seeing. It kinda reminded me of the Dark Side of Dimensions version of Duel Disks. More specifically, a mixture of Kaiba and Yugi's Duel Disks. It even had some kind of touchscreen.
"Holmes."
"Huh?" I focused back on the girl. I know I've seen her before but I can't remember her name.
"It's Chris Holmes, right?"
Well, she got the first name sort of right. No idea why my last name is that, but I'll roll with it for now. "Yeah?"
"Better get going. The proctor is waiting for you." She gestured down to the center of the stadium which had other teenagers dueling with adults. "Duel Field 3."
"Oh, thanks a lot, Miss." I told her, heading down to do my examination Duel, which still bewildered me for some reason as to how I even got here or why I awoke in the first episode of GX. Still, might as well check out this Duel Disk I have on me. I pressed a button on the touchscreen and noticed a list number.
Wait…
…these are my Decks from Master Duel. Is this thing linked to my Master Duel account?! Okay hold on, hold on. Think for a minute. If I'm in GX… and I have this kind of Duel Disk, then… wait, that's impossible. The other Summoning Methods aren't available until after GX. Am I in some AU version of GX? Or maybe ARC-V? I don't know!
Hold on, my Synchro, Xyz, Pendulum, and Link Decks are locked. My Ritual, Fusion, and regular Decks are still available. There was also some kind of bar with an XP right next to it. Hold on, is that a Gamer ability on my Duel Disk? Does this mean that I'll only be able to use those Decks if I level up or something?
"Hey, kid, you going to stand there all day?" A gruff voice spoke to me.
"Huh?" Blinking, I realized I had unconsciously arrived at my assigned Duel Field. The person across from me looked like a bodybuilder dressed in a black version of the Obelisk Blue uniform. "Oh, sorry, I was…distracted." I admitted.
The bulky man sighed, "I'm Edward Jones. I'm your assigned proctor for this examination Duel. If you succeed, you'll be in my math class for the coming year."
"Uh, Chris Holmes. Nice to meet ya." I gave a polite bow because I think I'm in Japan? "Good luck."
"I should be telling you that, kid." Edward stated. His Duel Disk activated after he placed his Deck in it.
Guess I better do the same. I place a finger on the touchscreen and select one of my regular Decks. Alright, which one to pick? Eeny, meeny, miny, moe! This one! In seconds, a Deck of Yu-Gi-Oh, or rather Duel Monsters, cards appeared in the Deck slot of my Duel Disk.
"Interesting Duel Disk." Edward mentioned.
"Thanks, latest prototype." I lied, not sure if the DSoD Duel Disks were even present or not. Technology like that is really expensive and I doubt Kaiba managed to sell many. Greedy bastard. Just because he legally screwed the rules cause he had money that one time, doesn't mean shit.
"Well, let's see if it stacks up in this exam. Ready?" The older man asked me. I nodded in response. "Alright, then let's-"
"DUEL!"
Chris LP: 4000
Edward LP: 4000
"Since this is your exam, the first move is yours." Edward offered.
Turn 1: Chris
"Thanks," I replied, looking at my starting hand. Gotta remember. I can't draw on the first turn. Anime rules be damned. Hm, a good starting hand though and this one will make for a good wall. "I set one monster face-down and end my turn." I placed the monster card I desired on my Duel Disk, which had a metal board that possessed a glowing blue edge.
Apparently, Edward looked disappointed in my opening move. "A single monster? Not exactly a good start, Holmes."
That's what he thinks. "Well, if I did something wrong, you're welcome to prove it to me." I replied, egging the man on.
Turn 2: Edward
"Alright then. Let me show you how its done." He said, drawing his sixth card. "For my first move, I summon Giant Orc in ATK Mode!" Edward said, placing his newest card on his Duel board. Appearing in a flash of light is a giant gray-skinned orc in dirty trousers, a leather kilt, and wielding a monster bone as a club (4/ATK: 2200/DEF: 0). "Attack his face-down monster!" He ordered his Giant Orc, which grunted in reply before charging at my own monster.
Now, normally, seeing something like that made from Solid Vision technology would be pretty scary but I had nothing to fear, especially when I flipped over my face-down monster. "The monster you attacked is my Obnoxious Celtic Guardian! His special effect prevents him from being destroyed by monsters with 1900 or more ATK!" I declared as the elf swordsman materialized on a face-up image of his card, using his sword to block the bone club of the enemy monster then sent it back with a well-placed kick.
Edward scowled, "After the Battle Phase when Giant Orc attacks, it automatically switches to DEF Mode." As he said this, the large orc dropped on one knee, bringing up its club as a bit of protection. "I'll also set two cards face-down and end my turn. Not a bad move, kid."
"Thanks," I replied, mentally sighing in relief. "It's my turn now. Draw!" I said, drawing my next card.
Turn 3: Chris
Looking at my newest card, I smirked, "I activate the Spell: Twin Twister! This blows away two Magic or Trap cards on both players' fields! Lucky me, I don't have any. You, on the other hand…" I trailed on, watching as a whirlwind blew away my opponent's face-down cards, revealing them to be Mirror Force and Trap Jammer.
"Darn it." Edward cursed.
"I still have to discard 1 card from my Hand due to using Twin Twister." I took a card I wouldn't be able to use and placed it in my Graveyard. "Then I switch my Obnoxious Celtic Guardian to ATK mode!" I said, and the elf warrior stood up, sword held firmly in both hands. "Let's battle! Obnoxious Celtic Guardian, attack his Giant Orc! Silver Blade Slash!" I ordered my warrior.
My elf swordsman released a battle cry, running at the orc which braced itself for the coming violence. Celtic Guardian leapt in the air before bringing down his sword, carving through the bone club and splitting the orc in half. It released a final dying groan before erupting into particles.
"I'll place a face-down and call it a turn." I smirked, placing said card down and the holographic card appeared on my field.
Turn 4: Edward
"My turn! Draw!" Edward said, drawing his next card. "I activate Pot of Greed, letting me draw two more cards!" He said, drawing his extra cards.
Of course he has that card. It's pretty much a go-to card in the original and GX series. "Get any good cards?" I asked, feeling a bit of dread.
"As a matter of fact, I did." Edward smirked. "I summon The Bistro Butcher in ATK mode!" He placed one of his two newest cards on his Duel Disk, which brought forth the demonic purple-skinned fiend dressed as a French bistro (4/ATK: 1800/DEF: 1000).
"Not good." I grimaced.
"It's about to get worse because I equip my monster with an Axe of Despair!" Edward placed the last of his newest cards in his dueling board. The fiend's giant butcher knife was replaced by an organic looking ax (ATK: 1800-2800).
"Oh joy, what else? You got a Megamorph waiting for me?" I asked sarcastically.
"Sarcasm won't do you any favors, kid. In the meantime, I'll have my monster serve your Guardian a heaping helping of pain." Edward stated.
"Don't forget, he can't be destroyed by monsters with 1900 ATK or more." I reminded him.
"Oh, I'm well aware." The man gestured with his hand, sending his fiendish cook at my elf warrior. Obnoxious Celtic Guardian brought up his blade to block his foe's axe strike but the fiend's charged up strength broke through his guard and bit down into the elf's shoulder, drawing a cry of pain from him.
Chris LP: 4000 - 1400 = 2600
"I'll end my turn with that." Edward told me. "And since I dealt battle damage to you with Bistro Butcher, you're allowed to draw two cards from your Deck."
I drew said cards but grimaced when neither of them was the cards I needed to ensure my victory. Still, I can at least be thankful that the battle damage effect of Bistro Butcher gives me an edge.
Turn 5: Chris
"My turn. Draw!" I looked at my newest card and smirked. "I play my own Pot of Greed! Now I'll draw two cards of my own!" I drew my next cards and grimaced. I didn't manage to get the needed pieces I needed but I did get a decent defense. "I switch my Obnoxious Celtic Guardian to DEF mode and place one card face-down then end my turn." I said, switching my current monster who crouched down, despite his wounded shoulder. A holographic card appeared beside the one behind my warrior.
Turn 6: Edward
"My turn!" Edward said, drawing his next card. "Perfect. I play Fissure!"
Dammit…
"I don't think I need to explain the effect of this card, but I'll give you a hint. Your Celtic Guardian is taking a trip six feet under." He remarked.
A crack opened beneath my monster, who fell in with an echoing cry before the fissure closed. So much for having a monster defense.
"Better luck next year, kid. Bistro Butcher, attack him directly!" Edward ordered.
"I don't think so. I activate my Trap: Negate Attack! This stops your monster and ends your Battle Phase!" I countered, playing one of my face-down cards.
"Hmph… lucky break for you." Edward narrowed his eyes with a scoff. "I place one card face-down and end my turn."
Turn 7: Chris
"It's my move." I drew my next card. Please let it be a card I need. Otherwise, this will be over before it even begins…
…I looked at the card and I couldn't stop the grin on my face.
"First, I'll activate from my Hand, Mystical Space Typhoon! This card destroys one Spell or Trap card on the Field. I target the lone card in your backrow!" I declared as a cyclone of wind struck Edward's face-down card, revealing it to be Bottomless Trap Hole. A troublesome card for any monster with 1500 or more ATK.
The proctor cursed at the loss of his face-down, "Not bad, kid."
"I'll end my turn here." I declared.
Turn 8: Edward
"Heh, give up, have you? Well, better luck next year, kid." Edward said after drawing his card. "Time to end this. Bistro Butcher, attack him directly!"
The demon chef began his advance upon me, but I was waiting for this moment.
"I activate the Effect of Kuriboh in my hand! By discarding this card, I take no damage in battle!" I interjected, holding up said card as the brown-furred fuzzball appeared in front of me as it took the hit from Bistro Butcher, but its sacrifice bought me another turn.
"Hmph. You may have escaped from my Butcher but not from my Magic cards." Edward stated. "I activate three Magic Cards from my hand. Hinotama, Final Flame, and Tremendous Fire! These three cards inflict damage to my opponent."
I winced. "The combined total of that damage is 2100."
"Exactly. Now, feel the burn!" Edward gestured at me before a pillar of fire engulfed me, draining my life points.
Chris's LP: 2600 - 2100 = 500
Even though the flames were computer generated, I couldn't help flinching a bit due to my body's instinctual need to avoid being burned.
"I'll end my turn with that." Edward said, folding his arms. "This is your last move, applicant. Better make it count."
Turn 9: Chris
Easier said than done. I got real lucky drawing Kuriboh at the last second but I'm not sure if my luck is still working.
It all comes down to this draw. If the card I need isn't the one I draw, this Duel is over for me…
"It's my move. Draw!"
Drawing my next (and hopefully needed) card, I sucked in a breath and gave the image of what I drew a look. The moment I saw it, a smirk grew on my face.
"Looks like I just scored the winning game." I said, aloud.
"What?"
"Let me ask you something. You know of the King of Games, right?" I asked.
"Who doesn't?" Edward scoffed. "Why do you ask?"
"Did you ever see his first official Duel against Seto Kaiba?" My inquiry came.
"What are you-" Edward said, before the realization dawned on him. "You… you can't possibly-!"
"That's right. Like the King of Games, I wield the same creature that granted him that victory." I said, smirking while presenting the card I just drew. "The unstoppable Exodia!"
"Ahhh! Impossible!"
"I've assembled all the five needed cards!" I laid all five pieces of Exodia on my Duel Disk. "All five pieces of the puzzle!"
From behind, a massive five-star pentagram appeared and emerging from the portal came the Egyptian deity that consumed all.
"No way! It's- It's Exodia! You're saying you performed a miracle?!"
"Exodia… Obliterate!" I called out my creature's technique as Exodia gathered an orb of energy in his palms before blasting it not only at the proctor's monster, instantly vaporizing it but also at him, who cried out from the blast hitting him.
Edward LP: 0
Winner: Chris Holmes
The Solid Vision vanished as the Duel came to an end.
I can't believe it… I won. And I won using Exodia.
AWESOME!
"Well, it's my loss. Well done, applicant. Or should I say, new student." Edward said with a grin. "I eagerly await to see how you progress at Duel Academy."
I bowed politely, "Thank you. And thank you again for the Duel. To be honest, if I hadn't been able to draw the card I needed, I probably would have lost."
"Luck is only half the battle, kid. You need skill too."
"Well, I've got both." I replied, casually placing my hands behind my head.
"In the meantime, you can sit at the stands and watch the remaining exam Duels. Half the applicants are still Dueling after all." Edward told me.
Oh right, I never noticed the other Duelists around me. Might give me a good- And everyone's staring at me. Greaaaaat… now I think everyone's going to try to duel and kill me for even having Exodia.
I quietly walked towards a lone section of the stands and sat down, watching the other Duels with barely any interest.
I spotted Bastion dueling his Proctor and it seemed to be nearing its end. I could also see Syrus finishing up his own Duel.
Which means right about now, Jaden Yuki should be showing up.
"Hey, your Duel was pretty impressive." A familiar voice spoke to me.
"Huh?"
I turned towards the voice and… oh it's that girl. Waaaaait a minute. I remember now. She's Alexis Rhodes.
"Oh, it's you." I greeted, pretending to be ignorant of her name.
"Alexis." She said, giving me her name. "I saw the end of your Duel."
"Pretty sure everyone saw it."
"True," Alexis giggled, "No one expects to see the legendary Exodia being summoned in a Duel."
"Well, I guess you could say Lady Luck was on my side." I grinned.
"Lady Luck, huh?" She gave me a quirked brow.
"I mean, it might be luck." I admitted, rubbing my cheek.
"In that case, I'll be sure to keep my eye on you." Alexis said, a challenging glint in her eyes. "There's not a lot of competition these days. And I think I may have found it." She smirked, before walking off.
Damn… I can see why a lot of guys love Alexis. She's a beautiful badass.
Unfortunately, I'm not in the luxury of being in a relationship. I need to know why I'm here and if I can go back home.
Oh, I think Jaden's Duel against Crowler is next.
Welp, better relax, get comfortable, and enjoy Jaden kicking Crowler's ass.
A/N: And that should do it folks! Yes, it's kind of on the short side, but really, we already know how Jaden's duel with Crowler is going to go, so no need to repeat it here.
Anyways, the placement of the MC would usually be in Slifer Red but I'm thinking he should go to Ra Yellow.
Interactions with the characters are probably going to be random as well as the MC's Decks. After all, you can't be a one-trick pony. Otherwise, you end up with a well-placed kick to the nads.
But what did you guys think of that call back from the first episode of the original series? Did I do it justice?
Review and comment on this chapter. Love it, hate it, but just know that you've read it.
Peace out, everyone!
