Compatible Magic

Authors Note: this story idea has been popping in my head about Charlie Weasley. Thought I make a story about him and why he has not been married. This story will be rated M for a reason. Let me know what you think. I am very curious if I should continue or not.

Summary: Ever wonder why Charlie Weasley never got married. Maybe it wasn't because he was a thrill-seeking Dragonoligist who focused on his career. Perhaps it's something else. A rare condition that prevents him from finding love. Until one day, he met someone with the same condition as him.

Chapter 1: Lonesome

Compatible Magic. It is a rare sort of magic that can be a blessing and yet a curse simultaneously. No one knows the source of this kind of magic since it is a rare condition. As it affects one-tenth of the wizarding community. It is difficult to explain, as those who try to do the research assumed that the wizard or witch must find their soul mate to feel satisfied.

Many witches and wizards who have the condition doubt it. Those who genuinely try to grasp the concept of this magical restriction found these findings. Compatible magic is for the individual to be with a near equal partner or capable of handling their individuality. However, the compatible person can not think so and force themselves and the person to be together. No, it is up to their magic to decide.

When a witch or wizard with the condition tries to date, they will not feel satisfied when the relationship becomes intimate. There are many symptoms when the individual doesn't find a compatible match to their magic. The most common symptom is being repulsed in a sickly matter when a possible relationship doesn't match in an explicit nature. Suppose a potential match somehow catches the magic interest but is not complete. In that case, the individual can find release, however, not satisfaction.

There has been an assumption that the individual with the condition in muggle standards is simply a-sexual. The majority of those barely seek a possible match and focus on their career. Many well-known wizards and witches reach high remarks in their early years and settle down in their later years when they pass the age in search of a partner.

Many rumors suggest that when two individuals who have a compatible magic click or one whose magic satisfies the Compatible inflected shall produce magical solid offspring.

However, it has not been confirmed since there is insufficient research because those with the condition hardly volunteer. None could blame them for it is a sensitive topic. And those who try to aid in the research couldn't handle their magic by rejecting a possible partner when forced upon them.

Although, those who did find a compatible partner that their magic approves have become happy and utterly satisfied. As if they did find their soul mate. But none dare share the details.

Romania spring of 2007

Charlie Weasley woke up early with a sigh as he stared at the ceiling of his room. The sun has slowly started to rise, which provided little light to see. He was an early riser, a habit his body made no matter how much sleep he got. Then again, around this time, the dragons would be waking soon, and some have sung (if you put morning yawns/roars as singing) at the hour.

It was still too early as he turned to his side, trying to get some sleep. The bed was enormous, as the rest of the bed remained unoccupied. His thoughts linger, staring at the empty space since the last time he slept with someone or a companion. The Romanian Dragon Sanctuary was a male-dominated facility with few female workers. And most of the female workers are married or prefer the company of women. Which he did not mind.

However, it has been almost nine years since the end of the Second Wizarding War. Nine years since the Battle of Hogwarts. Nine years since losing friends and loved ones. His family has moved on yet kept Fred in their memory. Charlie will never forget the rascal with George causing trouble that earned a laugh. A little devil. After the war and staying a year to ensure his family and friends were alright, he returned to Romania. Coming over for the holidays and vacation breaks in the summer when his boss practically forces him out with a portkey at the ready.

As the years went by, Charlie noticed that the family was growing. All of his siblings are married now and are popping children. As of now, he has eight nieces and nephews and one on the way or two, or was it three. He wasn't sure since someone is always pregnant when he does come to visit. Last he checked, Fleur was pregnant from his last letter from Bill.

Charlie must admit he was a bit jealous of his siblings. All happy and in love with a family of their own. At first, it was nothing, as he was the ultimate uncle. The next generation was a blessing to get his own mother, Molly Weasley, off his back about settling down and starting a family. Charlie made an excuse is that his career as a dragonologist means everything to him. He was not one to stay in one place for a mundane job. He loved the outdoors and adventures, and somehow dragons were the key.

He loved dragons since he was a kid; he dressed Erol up as one and used spellotape on Scabbers to make dragon wings. (That was way before they found out Scabber's was Peter Pettigrew.) He needed adrenaline, as Hermione once called him an Adrenaline Junkie.

Although the truth be told that he did not marry because after losing Fred and the dangers of his career that he could not risk it. What if a dragon got to him that resulted in his death? He couldn't put his intermediate family and his clan through that grief again. At least that is what he keeps telling himself.

But as time continued and seeing the expansion of his family, he realized he wanted that. However, there was a slight problem. He had compatible magic, and he couldn't simply out dating a few birds and find the one to make his wife. No, his magic did not accept the witch. Fortunately, his magic was not that stubborn to let him have one-night stands or friends with benefits for a short period of time. Except when it goes too long enough, he gets these headaches. And when he does manage to have sex, he gets the sexual frustrations out and release yet not satisfied.

And look here, he was nearing thirty-five and still a bachelor.

The closes person he had to be compatible with was Nymphadora Tonks. However, their career choices separated them, leaving them on good terms. Other than her, no other witch could satisfy his magic to work out.

His condition was rare that not even his parents knew it. The only person who knew about his condition was Bill. No one else knows about it. When he visited Bill, a curse breaker for Gringotts, the older Weasley tried to introduce him to the witches and wizards to see if anyone could cause a 'spark.' In the end, there was only a good shag. In his early years, Bill mentioned that he met a witch, a magizoologist who had the same condition. Charlie was intrigued and thought about the possible theory. However, by the time he came to give Bill a visit, the older Weasley apologized, stating his friend had to return to America. Charlie shrugged it off and spent the week helping Bill out on his job and exploring Egypt.

Time passed on, and Charlie knew he had to get up and face the day. He climbed out of bed, taking a quick shower before getting dressed and making himself some breakfast. Once his morning routine was done, he grabbed his uniform jacket and headed out to the reserve. There were some dragons in heat, and the team had to ensure the mating went well and not another scuffle.

"Ah Charlie, there you are!" an older man called out.

Charlie glanced over his shoulder to see Mr. Ridgebit making his way. Mr. Ridgebit was the grandson of the founder for the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary and current owner. He was middle-aged, with almost greying hair, as his skin was covered in scars and burns. But that did not stop the man fondness and care for dragons and having the same love for them as his grandfather Harvey Ridgebit.

"How ya doing, Mr. Ridgebit," Charlie greeted.

"Good," the man came over, "Can I have a word with you."

"Of course, sir," Charlie replied, being formal since they were on the clock.

"I received a letter from the Wales Dragon Reserve being in a pickle," Mr. Ridgebit started. "There was an incident that resulted in several of their employees either retiring or on medical leave. They need assistance until they can hire more help. As you are a fellow Brit, I was wondering if you be interested in the transfer until all is sorted out."

Charlie was surprised. He had been to the Wales Dragon Reserve before. It has been one of the two in the United Kingdom, with Hebridge owned by the MacFusty Clan in Scotland. Although the Wales Dragon Reserve was in Wales, that is hidden in the mountain terrain. The Common Welsh Green populated the majority of dragons with several other native Western European dragons and caretakers of exploited dragons that the Ministry of Magic found in trafficking.

"It will be a year or so position," Mr. Ridgebit assured. "The pay is good, and they do provide lodging if you are interested. Also, you get to visit your family more often."

Charlie raised a brow, "Did my mother send you a letter again?"

Mr. Ridgebit stared at him for a moment, then burst out laughing from that memory. When Charlie moved to Romania to become a dragonologist, Molly Weasley, the family's matriarch, tried to bring him back home. Which did not prevail, as the previous Mr. Ridgebit had Charlie sit down and hand him the letter and told him to tell his mother to stop writing to him on a transfer.

The other dragonologist picked on the greenhorn for a year until Charlie spoke with his mother to stop writing transfer requests. If he wanted to work back home, he would have either been in the Wales Dragon Reserve or Hebridge. However, the Romanian Dragon Sanctuary had a variety of dragons compared to the others.

The dragonologist paused, thinking about it. It has been five months since he last saw his family for the holidays. And with the family growing, they could use a helping hand. Spend more time with his nieces and nephews.

"A year, you say?" Charlie asked.

"Yes, just for a year at the least," Mr. Ridgebit confirmed. "Maybe longer until they settle things out."

Charlie shrug, "Why not."

Mr. Ridgebit patted him on the back, "Much appreciated, my friend. Why don't you write a letter to your family, and I'll notify Wales of your arrival?"

Charlie appreciated it as he headed back to his place to write a letter to his family. He sat at his desk and started writing a letter to his parents. Undoubtedly, his mother would be ecstatic for his return home for a more extended stay than a few weeks. Although he doesn't quite want to live with his parents. Maybe Bill can lend a room or the shed with an expandable charm to be a cabin. He wrote a letter to Bill and prayed to Merlin that Bill would allow him to live in Wales otherwise he be staying in Wales.

After writing his letters, he sent two owls and went back to packing. He probably has a week until getting confirmation on when to start. Until then, he decided to get back to work, ensuring the dragon's mating season went well.
