Chapter 63: The Devil Megicula

"I'm so sorry." Lolopechka squealed, sprawled on the beaver pelt. "This thick-pelted beaver just felt so good on my skin. Glasses..." she felt around the floor for her glasses. "My glasses."

"Goodness." Undine sighed. "What are you doing, Lolopechka? I told you to hurry up and change out of your pajamas."

"Magic Stages?" Lolopechka echoed after Asta asked for clarification. "Mages fight not with force of numbers, but with how powerful their magic is. There are cases where dozens may attack and they would be no match for a single mage. That's why, in wars between magic nations, power is measured by magic stages. In other words, a kingdom's power is determined by how many mages it has that are near Stage Zero. And if you're dealing with a devil, no one lower than Stage One will be able to keep up with it."

"A devil..." Asta blinked. "We came here because we detected a huge curse signal here that may be the work of a devil. Do you know anything about devil curses?"

"That's me." Lolopechka admitted. "I got cursed by a devil." she pulled up her blouse to reveal her curse mark. "If nothing is done, I'll die in about a year."

"Honestly." Undine moaned. "What am I going to do with you? That side of you is adorable, too. The reason we brought you here and measured your Magic Stages was so that we can defeat Megicula, the devil that cursed Lolopechka."

I'm sure this interest you, too." Lolopechka added. "Citizens of Clover Kingdom, please join us in..." she suddenly gasped, cutting herself short. "I forgot to water the poplatatta trees."

"Is it okay for the Queen of the Kingdom to act like that?" Secre was befuddled.

"There you go." Lolopechka opened her Grimoire, various images from across the Heart Kingdom appeared. "Have some water." she cast a massive rain cloud over the Kingdom.

"Back then, I wasn't too sure about your decision to remain in the Heart Kingdom, Undine." Rhiannon told the Water Spirit. "But now, it seems my worries were unfounded."

"Yes." the Water Spirit beamed. "Go and get changed into some proper clothes already." she hovered over Lolopechka. "The current Queen has inherited the power of most of the previous Queens; the guardian deity of the beautiful and peaceful Heart Kingdom, the all-knowing priestess: someone who cannot be lost to a devil's curse." she shielded Lolopechka in a curtain of water. "There is no one else like her." she declared, Lolopechka was now donned in her royal robes. "The loathsome devil that cursed my beloved Lolopechka; Megicula is in that kingdom."

"Spade..." Rhiannon's eyes widened. "So, it wasn't a coincidence..."

In the Queen's Chamber...

"The Queen has arrived." Gadjah announced, having brought the others in.

"Citizens of the Clover Kingdom, please lend us your strength." Lolopechka pleaded.

"Doesn't the Heart Kingdom have many mages that are Stage One or higher, including the Spirit Guardians?" Mimosa was puzzled.

"I mentioned earlier that everyone needs to be Stage One or higher to keep up with a fight against the devils." Lolopechka reminded. "But even if one was Stage Zero, they would not be able to finish off a devil. The Spirit Guardians borrow some power from natural mana to use powerful magic, but they still can't defeat devils. Unlike us, the Clover Kingdom has created types of magic that are not natural in exchange for giving up the divine protection of natural mana. Some of the irregulars were born in that environment were able to defeat a devil."

"In addition," Rhiannon continued. "In terms of combat magic alone, Secre is considered a Stage Six, but she has ancient Sealing Magic and has utilized Forbidden Magic. Asta, himself, has no magic, but that has allowed him to wield Anti-Magic. These are what is known as Arcane Stages."

"Lady Freyja is corrected." Lolopechka concurred. "I'd like you to lend us your arcane powers to help defeat that devil. In exchange, I'll offer you any information that is available to me."

"Mimosa, get in contact with Julius." Rhiannon instructed.

"Mimosa, did something happen?" Marx came online. "Wait, is that..." he gaped, seeing Lolopechka on the other end of the screen.

"You must be the Queen of the Heart Kingdom." Julius popped in.

"Don't just pop up with like Julius-sama." Marx chided. "You're small right now, remember? People will find out."

"Lolopechka already knew, Marx." Rhiannon deathpanned.

"Of course that's fine." Julius gave the go-head after Rhiannon gave him the rundown. "You all might get something amazing out of this, too."

"It's settled, then." Lolopechka was relieved. "Thank goodness. But in your present states, all of you will be killed so easily."

"Still as blunt as her predecessors, huh?" Rhiannon muttered.

"So, the Spade devil is that strong?" Asta gawked.

"Stronger than the devil you fought, I believe." Lolopechka admitted. "The scar Gadjah has is the work of the devil, too. The devil Megicula is haunting the Spade Kingdom, using its citizens to amass power in order to invade and conquer the Clover Kingdom, the Heart Kingdom and the Diamond Kingdom. As things stand, I will also die from this curse. I'd like to invade the Spade Kingdom before my power weakens. We have half a year. We'll need all the combat power we can get. Please gather those who stand a chance in a fight against a devil. I'd like you to get stronger and fight alongside us in six months."

That evening...

"Marx, gather all of the Magic Knight Squad Captains." Julius instructed.
