Act I - The End of the World in the Grain of Sand
Cosmos. A vast space blanketed with stars throughout the cosmic landscape. As the single planet coalesces through the galaxy, a moment of time comes to a halt. There, a mysterious figure with four arms and a white long hair flowed through zero gravity. It looks human-like and yet, so alien. However, the body is soon deteriorating as if it was made by prana. Knowing he doesn't have much time left… he puts his last effort, creating something out of thin air with his hands… a glowing mote of light appears and quickly creates itself in the form of a human being… A human with a black short hair as it was flowing slowly through space, he had a black unzippered jacket with a gray undershirt with belt-like accessories attached on each arm sleeve, black pants with two belts over his waist except one belt is slanted slightly and the other is straightened. He had black sneakers with white outlines and laces, too. There, the being slowly approached the young human male as he lightly grabbed his right hand as it places its index finger to tap on the back of his hand… a seering sizzle begins to brand a strange gold symbol on it. It then let go of his hand and spoke.
"My Viator…" The being spoke. "You are my last hope… to help resolve an irreparable crisis."
The being proceeds to plant its hand to his chest as the soft glow of light begins to wrap around them. But its body continues to disappear, rather then fading away… it decided to flow into his body in order to pass on.
"My task is done… I can no longer observe… While you may not remember me… But remember this: I will assist you with every step of the way. No matter how trivial it may be. Hardships will be tested. And so does all of humanity. Go, Viator…" The being continued as his body continued to fade away into the Viator more and more as he spoke his last word before completely disappearing as the Viator himself was slightly knocked back. "Become its anchor of the dying world…"
And so… the being was gone. And the Viator continues to descend onto the planet known as Earth. He was like a shooting star descending onto the planet's atmosphere. The moment he entered as such, down below where the kingdom; a city located from the mountainous plains of the plateau. The everyday civilians were simply going about their lives until one by one, the people noticed a shooting star flying across the sky as it awed them. Then, at the top of the illustrious castle's balcony a blonde woman whose cape was slightly blown by the wind from the west saw where the shooting star was going down to the south. But soon, the streaking shooting star dies down as the Viator, who was seen falling down more and more… the moment he slowly opens his eyes, he begins to see strange hallucinations shown in his eye reflection where a mysterious woman was slowly trying to reach out with her hand to him. But the moment he sees a mysterious woman in front of her as if she's real… everything turns to black…
[YEAR 2182, MARSCHE 7TH OF WUTHERSDAY]
[MYSIDIA GORGE, THE OUTSKIRTS OF CAMELOT JUST UP NORTH]
3/7/2182 Mysidia Gorge Daytime - Clear Skies
"Can't believe that we found this guy sleeping in the middle of nowhere… Is that the one who fell from the sky, Chloe?" A young timid girl spoke in confusion as the Viator began to hear things. But due to the landing… it was somewhat muffled for some reason.
"He's definitely the one, Maisha. So far… he has shown no injuries at all. His pulse seems to be stable. Breathing is normal and all… But it's unclear he'll be awake at any moment." The serious and calm spoken woman named Chloe replied as the Viator slowly opened his eyes and regained a proper vision after what happened. But the moment Chloe noticed him… She was surprised. "It appears he's already awoken."
"R-Really? Lemme see!" The voice of Maisha arrived to see him as he slowly lifted his body as he was unsure of where he was at… a narrow crevasse where the daylight is out in full. He checks his surroundings to find out where he is but he looks at the two women who were responsible for finding him.
One was a tall woman with a slim feature and long blonde hair, she appears to be wearing brown robes and has what appears to be an armor-like uniform. And the other was a short young woman whose height is nowhere different like the blonde. But she has short chestnut-colored hair and round glasses. But she seems to be carrying a sheathed blade with a slight curve to it.
"So he really is alive… Surely the fall must have killed him, no?" The chestnut-haired girl spoke shyly in concern as the blonde woman shook her head.
"Most likely not. But I'm glad he survived. But first…" The blonde woman continued as she looked at him. "How are you feeling?"
The Viator was confused at first. He remembered he was falling down onto Earth without reason or purpose. But thankfully, he was capable of speech so he responded with a straightforward answer.
"I'm… fine." The Viator responded as the blonde woman crossed her arms.
"I see." The blonde woman continued. "I know you're confused but… It's rude of us since we have not introduced ourselves. My name is Chloe Morgan. Lieutenant of the Knights of Camelot. And this one here is Sergeant Maisha Laforge."
"P-Pleased to meet you…" The timid and shy Maisha lightly greeted him as she bows.
"Don't worry about her. She joined the military just a few months ago but is still training to be proper, of course." Morgan said with a small chuckle as she continued. "Now then, may I know your name?"
A name… For the Viator… he unfortunately doesn't have one. He tries to think but… it was all pure blank like a black void. A complete nihility of nothingness. The Viator simply struggled as he couldn't remember nor his name.
"I… I don't have a name… I don't even remember…" The Viator responded as he was having a rough time to think. But to the knights surprise, Chloe remained serious but calm.
"Is that so? You can't remember your name?" Chole said as she pondered. "How strange…"
"U-Umm… Morgan…? If I may ask… When he said he doesn't remember his name… I'm starting to think that the mister here has amnesia…" Maisha said to Chloe as she pondered for a small moment.
"Amnesia… I see…" Morgan continued. "Well, can you at least try remembering?"
As he tries to remember… nothing comes up. But he realizes something in his mind… he heard voices of a certain someone that called for him. And there was one word he was called…
"Viator." He said.
"Umm… Viator?" Maisha said in confusion.
"I think my name is Viator… That's the only thing I remember." The Viator said his name as the two were surprised for a small moment.
"Such a strange name… Very well, Viator. Do you at least remember why you're here?" Morgan asked him.
"I don't know… I don't even know where I am. What is this place?" He asked Morgan the question involving the location.
"You're in the Mysidia Gorge. Located within the outskirts of Camelot just far off north of the kingdom." Morgan continued. "As for why we came here is to investigate a 'falling star' heading down south at the gorge. And then, we found you. Are you that falling star that Sir Percival informed us?"
The Viator doesn't know how to respond to it but he looked down a little as he remained silent. He just doesn't remember. With the air of uncertainty out and about… Maisha seemed concerned as Chloe sighed.
"If you don't want to answer, that's fine. But I can only assume that you're one of those missing survivors just to be sure." Chloe said as she noticed to see the sky. "It's going to get cloudy soon… I can't believe our Terminal Slate's communication is out of signal. Tch… Just our luck… the Inversal Rain is slowly approaching soon. We better get going."
"Y-Yes, Ma'am!" Maisha saluted as she placed her clenched fist to her chest.
"Viator, if you want to live. I suggest you come with us. You'll be safe within our protection. We'll get you to Camelot in no time once we head up north where the kingdom resides. So let's go." Chloe said as she and Maisha began to move. The Viator couldn't help but think. However, his instincts tell him that he should go with them. So he does so.
As the three proceed to find the exit within the gorge as the wind continues to blow through the narrow path as they felt it. But as soon they've reached the large and spacious area within the crevasse which turns out to be an old, derelict village overrun by nature itself. The houses that were constructed were entirely made out of stone and wood in order to keep it steady. Yet, time continues to erode which causes this small village to turn out like this. There used to be people here that the Viator couldn't even understand. But for Morgan and Maisha, they know they used to live here… until that sad, unjust fate had occurred which led to that result. The Viator stood there as he looked at it for a moment… However… a static and yet, searing pain with a sound of tinnitus proceeds to hurt him mentally as he grasps his head, gritting his teeth. Then, he begins to receive a strange vision where the village appears to be in a much cleaner state as it shows the projections of the houses and the people going about their lives. Children playing with each other as the villagers themselves feel safe. However, the projections disappear and the pain stops as everything reverts back to what it is… an abandoned village. Chloe and Maisha noticed to turn around and look at him.
"Hey, are you okay? You've been clenching your head for a little while. Are you not well?" Maisha asked him as he lowered his hand and looked at her.
"People… used to live here?" The Viator said in question as he looked at the whole ruined village. Chole couldn't help but to look at him. But she was willing to speak up and explain.
"They used to. It used to be a nice town a few months ago. But when the Inversal Rain occurred, monsters arrived in response due to their insatiable rampage. Many people have died here… while some managed to escape and find themselves living at Camelot." Chloe explained to him about the origins of the small ruined village. He couldn't help but to feel bad.
"R-Right now… We need to-" Maisha tried to speak until they heard a loud roar coming from above. "A-Ahh! The Chimera… It's here!"
"Wait… Chimera?" The Viator asked.
"The monsters I've mentioned before. And turns out the village is its nest… You can fight, can you?" Chole asked him if he was capable of combat. But when he looked at his hands… he was unsure. "If you can't fight. Then leave it to us. We know how to deal with Chimeras here and there. Maisha, with me."
"Y-Yes, Ma'am!" Maisha rushed to her side as they drew out their sword as it was brimming with the essence of prana coming out of the blade. As Maisha proceeds to find the detection of the noise. She looked up to find a beast standing on the top of the cliffside within the gorge. It appeared to be a white scaly beast with purple lines streaking from the legs, body, to head. But its eyes are gleaming blood red as it sets its sight on the three. "T-There! The Chimera!"
"So that's the Chimera…?" The Viator said within his mind. The beast proceeds to hop off and land in front of them as it blocks their path to leave the gorge, growling with hostility, ready for combat.
"Remember your training, Maisha. Become fearless, become brave…!" Chloe proceeded to dash into battle as she readied her sword positioned at her right side as she intended to swing her weapon with as much speed as she could. Maisha tried to call for her but the latter relented but to attack on sight.
A blade and the beast's claw clashes one another from its strike. But the Chimera dodged its second attack as it intended to go after Maisha due to her shakened fears. Her hands gripping the sword's handle begin to shake and her face filled with anxiety and grit.
"Shit…! Maisha!" Chloe tried to call for her as Maisha couldn't do anything.
But when the moment happens with the beast's incoming strike… The Viator was forced to move on his own and react… he immediately summoned a very peculiar blade. He parried the incoming attack at such a perfect timing as it bounced off the beast's attack, sending it backwards to regain its footing. Maisha closed her eyes when she tried to brace for an incoming attack. The moment the timid knight opens her eyes… she noticed that the Viator had protected her with a strange blade in hand. The blade appeared to be floating sharpened shards of metal shimmered in the color of an aquamarine as it was floating but took in the form of a blade that originated from the eastern asia continent. The handle itself had an intricate gold coloring with white outlines at the bottom. Yet, the blade had no tsuba at all but at the end of the mysterious blade had a white fox tail-like accessory attached to it. And yet, the blade looked broken and pristine.
"V-Viator…?" Maisha called his name as he readied himself.
"Are you okay?" The Viator asked her as she nodded hesitantly.
"Y-Yes! Thank you! But that Chimera… you won't stand a chance against it with that blade!" Maisha warned him about the opponent as Chole shouted.
"Viator! So you can fight after all!" Chloe exclaimed. "Remember, we need to take down that beast! Maisha, we'll talk after this!"
"Y-Yes…" Maisha said in defeat as she felt bad for herself.
The Viator knew what he had to do… he must kill the enemy in front of him… the beast that killed so many people in this abandoned village… the one called the Chimera. The enemy of humanity itself. The young man steeled himself without hesitation as he prepared his very first combat.
"I must fight…! I need to protect Maisha from harm!" The Viator spoke in his mind as he slowly approached his enemy to see its reaction.
The beast roared as it proceeded to dash towards him with its claws ready to gnash and tear him apart. As the beast was within his distance, the Viator proceeded to block the attack and return back to the Chimera. He moved his sword upwards diagonally to the right as he swung it down. The blade did reach as it cut through the left eye of the beast as it whined in pain. However, Chloe took her time to gain the upper hand by slaying the beast herself while it was distracted fighting the Viator.
"You're mine…! HAH!" Chloe exclaimed as she leaped up in the air and dived down, impaling the Chimera with her blade it was pierced through its head. Black blood splattered everywhere out of the beast's body as it stopped responding. She pulls out her sword before flicking the blade to remove the bloodstain while the corpse of the beast fades away as it releases purple motes of prana from it. As the lieutenant proceeded to sheathe her blade, she approached both the Viator and Maisha. "That takes care of that. Thank you for allowing me to strike the final blow on that beast. But that blade… it looks broken but… What even is it?"
The Viator doesn't know what type of blade is but once he begins to hear the mind of a certain someone… a masculine voice spoke the name of the blade.
"The Blade of Thought…"
"The Blade of Thought…" The Viator said as he repeated the words of the voice within his head.
"Is that so?" Chloe said as she placed her left hand on her hip as if she looked skeptical for some reason. But she has every right to. "Yet, the blade is yours but never would I think it would be practical in a sense. As for you, Maisha… you're hesitating again."
"S-Sorry, Lieutenant… It's my fault that I let you down again…" Maisha felt sorry for herself that she felt useless for no reason. She wasn't able to fight back but the fears towards the Chimera still haunts her. The Viator then lets go of the blade he was holding as it fades away in motes of prana as was thinking of speaking but relented and let the two handle their own thing.
"You didn't. You're simply inexperienced despite your combat efficiency during your recruitment training. You're the only person within my squad to be this capable. King Arthur is depending on us to rid the lands of Chimeras. You know this." Chloe continued calmly. "But again, don't blame yourself because of your fears. In the end, we're knights."
"You're right… I'm sorry for not doing anything…" Maisha continued as she looked at him. "But still, I never knew that the Viator is skilled in combat."
"We can compliment him later. For now, we need to get moving…" Chloe then looked up at the sky where it has been clouded as the blue skies are no more and the droplets of drizzling rain befalls on them. "It seems the Inversal Rain has already begun… The beasts will soon be more rampant during the rain so we must make haste and tread carefully. Let's go, Viator."
The Viator nodded as he continued to follow the two female knights in order to make their leave out of the gorge. But with minutes passing by, they soon finally got out of the narrow chasm as they stood near the edge of the cliffside. But far ahead shows the vast lands filled with grassy plains, hills, and mountains. Far within those lands shows a kingdom of the white castle and tons of buildings of what appears to be houses there. And there were walls erected to guard it from the enemies, particularly the Chimeras.
"Over there." Chloe continued. "Now that we're out of the gorge. You can see the large kingdom far up ahead. That is Camelot. Well, to be more precise; the Grand Capital itself, located between the Uwain Mountains and Valisthea Plains. Viator, we humbly welcome you to the lands… of the United Kingdom of Camelot."
The Viator was amazed by how vast the lands are during the Inversal Rain. But since the skies are clouded, it doesn't look too vibrant as a result. He wondered to himself why the lands are called the United Kingdom of Camelot.
"First time hearing it, I take it?" Maisha shyly said to him as she continued. "The reason why it's called that is because it was once three nations here in the Gust Continent that once had hostility at each other. But as time went on, Camelot would unify the nation by annexing all three into one, making Camelot the main capital."
"She's correct. While Camelot is the main capital of this nation. There are two other neighboring nations, for example. The Kingdom of Frankia, led by the Queen of France; who holds passion and love for her country and her people above all else. And the Empire of Roma, led by the prideful Emperor who glorifies its own nation." Chloe explained the whole backstory of the nation itself. "But there is one small nation located far off the western shores of Gust…"
"A nation called Fuso… I heard it's been in a civil war for centuries now and so forth. No one knows why it's happening but Camelot pretty much left it alone despite the Chimeras roaming around every land here on this planet." Maisha said with concerns regarding that nation from the western seas.
"That Demon King of the Sixth Heaven is truly a fool after all. Well, enough of that. While we were talking about the lay of the land… it appears that someone appeared on the ground below us. And we're not alone… Someone is already here." Chloe noticed someone below…
There was a silver haired man donned in his pristine white armor as he held a spear in his hand. He appears to be investigating something, a strange "plus" symbol with sharp points at the end of each point as it had a strange gold puddle that is strangely there for some reason. But for Chloe and Maisha, they know this man.
"I-It's… It's Sir Percival! He's already here!" Maisha exclaimed. "Thank goodness we're safe…"
"He can't hear us if you're shouting. We'll have to descend carefully. Thankfully, that inventor from Roma had made us Aether Gliders just in case. Di Vinci's creations know no bounds." Chloe said as she looked at him as he remained clueless on their discussions. "Oh, right. You don't have one. But don't worry, I have a spare just in case we lose it but… I suppose I'll give it to you. You do know how to use it, right?"
"Sadly, no. This is my first time hearing about this." The Viator replied to them.
"It's rather simple. It'll automatically activate through your neuron activation via your brain. It'll allow us to descend slowly while gliding. Camelot only hands them out to a few selected people such as us since they're not easy to make." Maisha explained as she proceeds to apply the glider onto his back as it proceeds to resonate within him, connecting his mind to the glider. "There. I think that should do it."
"The moment you jump off the cliff, activate it from your mind. We will be doing the same. Maisha." Chloe said as Maisha nodded.
The two were fearless as they jumped off the cliff on their own. They had already activated their gliders from their back as if they sprouted wings from their back. The Viator had no choice but to jump off and activate it like they did without issue. As soon the three continued to slowly make their descent, they all landed as their gliders deactivated in the process and met up with the man known as Percival. However, the Viator suddenly halts on his own as he grasps his head with his left hand as the sudden jolt and tinnitus strikes him again, gritting his teeth in order to persevere.
"Sir Percival!" Chloe called out his name as both her and Maisha saluted at him. "I didn't realize that you were here… as well as the sudden appearance of this Coral Field."
"S-Sir Percival, right now the Inversal Rain has begun and isn't safe right now. We aren't sure if the Coral Field is dormant as of currently- Huh? Sir Percival?" Maisha then realizes where Percival took a notice at the Viator as he walks past Chloe and Maisha. As the Viator no longer hears the tinnitus and the pain gone… he was met face to face with Percival himself.
"Well now, I take it that you're a survivor, is it not?" Percival asked him as he was confused of what's going on. He has his small smile to show his open kindness but… this was his first time meeting him.
"Y-Yeah… I am." The Viator replied as Chloe approached the white armored knight.
"Sir Percival. We have found him who regained his consciousness at the Mysidia Gorge. This young man here is Viator. We're unsure of his real name but he called himself that." Chloe continued. "However, I can assure you that he harbors no ill will and is experienced in combat."
"H-His blade is not like anything we've ever seen, though…" Maisha said as she remained timid as usual.
"Is that so?" Percival continued as he looked at the girl's nodding. He then looks back at the Viator. "Viator, was it? I hope these knights haven't caused you trouble. After all, I never knew that you'd survive outside the Grand Capital, no less. As they mentioned to me before. I am Sir Percival, belonging to the Knights of the Round Table in Camelot. I was tasked by the King to investigate the sudden appearance of the Coral Field caused by the Inversal Rain. Tis uncertain that a Chimera may spring out of that field but it remains dormant since it appeared just now."
"If I may ask… Who are the Knights of the Round Table, exactly?" The Viator asked Percival about who they were as he seemed a bit surprised.
"It's what I'm part of, we knights are tasked with protecting the citizens of Camelot against any foreign invaders including the blasted Chimeras. As of currently, this isn't a good place to continue our discussion here. We'll continue afterwards once we arrive back in the kingdom. I must report to the king of this ongoing development." Percival continued as he looked back at the two female knights. "Chloe, Maisha. Please escort Viator back to the kingdom. I will join you later."
"Understood-" Chloe was soon interrupted when she noticed something was off… the ground began to shake as the Coral Field began pulsating, creating a large barrier that enlarged the area they were currently in, preventing any means of escape. But she noticed that her Terminal Slate has been going off with alert sounds as it was blinking red on the screen. "W-What in the…!?"
As Maisha continued to remain afraid and confused. The Viator remained composed as he noticed something was coming out of that Coral Field. A huge splosh of golden puddle of a claw rises out and proceeds to get out of the field itself, draining the golden puddle within it completely as it does so. But the mysterious creature coming out of the field sprung up midair as it was targeting the Viator.
"I-Is that… a Chimera!?" Maisha said in shock as this particular Chimera was completely different from the rest.
It looked humanoid but in the form of a vicious werewolf with tons of fur and gleaming red claws. But the moment the Viator grit his teeth, he responds by summoning the Blade of Thought and clashes with the Chimera's attack. He held his blade with two hands as he forcefully pushed the attack out of the way as both were knocked back as the Viator stood his ground while the Chimera landed on the ground where Percival, Chloe, and Maisha all drew out their weapons in response.
"Definitely a Chimera alright… I can tell this is Elite, for sure. With Sir Percival at our side, we'll never be beaten!" Chloe said bravely as they readied themselves for a clash.
The werewolf-like beast howled and dashed towards its opponents but Percival stepped in as he swung his spear as the blade and claws clashed multiple times. The knight of the spear himself sees this as no issue as he continues to relent and attack. But this opened the opportunities for Chloe and Maisha to run ahead and perform a pincer attack by closing into the enemy in both directions of left and right. The beast knew what they were doing as it proceeded to take a step back and leap up into the air right after the two female knights had missed their opportunity to strike after swinging. While the werewolf was midair, it didn't take the beast to notice that the Viator had already leaped up into the air as he swung his Blade of Thought downwards. The beast protected itself with its claw to brace for impact. With a downward strike, the Viator had sent him falling at such speed. With a loud thud and the smoke clears up, the Viator lands on the ground as he was joined with the other three. But boy, they were wrong… the beast had let out a vicious and threatening howl that released a purple aura around itself as they all covered their faces from it. The beast itself grew two times the size and its claws were deadlier. However, Maisha and Chloe kneeled on the floor as they were unable to move for unknown reasons.
"W-What is this howl… W-Why… Why can I move…! Maisha…!" Chloe cursed in confusion as Maisha struggled to do so.
"I-I don't know! I-It somehow… forced us to stop…!" Maisha replied as she continued to struggle. With the two female knights unable to get up, Percival gritted his teeth as he rushed over to their side.
"You will not harm them!" Percival exclaimed as he blocked the incoming attack as it was proven to be a problem for him… the beast is overwhelming the knight with ludicrous strength. "T-Tch…! Viator! I know this is foolish of me but… you need to go on without us! Head to Camelot if you can!"
"But I can't leave you…! So let me help!" The Viator exclaimed, knowing that he's willing to risk himself. A worthless sacrifice for nothing.
"I cannot! You must head to the Holy Kingdom and try to get help from the Round Table! I'll try to stall as much as I can! I will provide you with my steed to get there quicker- GAH!" Percival struggled to push back the pressure as he was being slowly pushed back by the beast's greater force. Chloe and Maisha were left stunned as they couldn't do everything.
"Why… Why can I do anything? We won't survive this because of this beast… Is this all for nothing? Is there nothing we can do? We're all going to die regardless… I need to make a choice… I want to live… I can't let them die in front of me…!" The Viator said in his mind as he tried to steel his resolve. But suddenly… his heart beats loudly as the sound begins to resonate… time starts to slow down around him as something was different this time… He gasped at the moment as something was happening…
"O fate-saddled child, O anguished wayfarer…"
Suddenly, the time stops completely as everything was black and white except for the Viator. He looked around to see who was speaking. Perhaps from above? No. In the mind? He does not know. And yet, the feminine voice continues to speak. As if it was speaking in riddles but no. An offer that the voice provides.
"Thy fate is intertwined, thy journey remains clouded. The future yet unknown dawns in thine moment. Thy path may fork, but only you can make thine difference. Art thou willing to confront the threat before thee. Or die here in obscurity. Now, choose."
The voice gave him two choices. To fight or die. But for the Viator, it was an easy answer for him as he spoke…
"I… I choose…" The Viator said as he made up his mind.
"Then so be it. If thou hast made thine choice. Then thy future has been decided. Overcome your fears. It is time to awaken the Heroic Spirit from within. Engrave thy seal… and call upon its power!"
The Viator knew what he had to do… He held his Blade of Thought on his left hand this time as he had the Command Seals on the back of his right hand. But he proceeds to grip the blade tightly in order to withstand this pain. The more he tightens his grip on the blade, the blood begins to drip the moment he lets go… he places his right bleeding hand to his chest where his heart is as he concentrates… his Command Seal begins to glow brightly like a gleaming golden light. But it proceeds to get brighter and brighter as the magic circle appears below him. And so… he made his choice… he will fight and protect those around him. He grit his teeth and made his call, raising his right hand into the air.
"AWAAAAAAAAAAKEEEENNNNNNNN!" The Viator shouted violently as loud as he could as his Command Seal finally responded, the flash of blue light began to swallow him whole as he was blinded by it. Time resumed normally as everyone present in this Coral Field saw what was happening.
A burst of wind dashes onto the scene as the beast notices before blocking the unsuspecting attack out of nowhere as it was pushed back with so much force. There, the newly arrived figure had revealed herself. A young beautiful woman with long blonde braided hair, pure amethyst-colored eyes, she wore a battle-dress with armor. Of course, she wielded what appears to be a flagged spear as it was blown by the wind, revealing the designs of what appears to be a fleur-de-lis as she has a short sword sheathed on her left hip. Everyone saw what happened but to Percival, this was his first time seeing something out of nowhere but knew who this woman was. Not by name… but a term.
"So it has happened… A Servant has been summoned…" Percival said personally as he was shocked to see her appear.
"I-Impossible…" Chloe said in shock. "Even though the Throne has released all Heroic Spirits, the Grail somehow allowed it despite it's never there in the first place… What is going on…?"
The Viator gasped and breathed heavily after having somehow summoned his Servant for the first time. But the woman turns around and approaches him, she places her left hand to her chest and proceeds to ask him kindly.
"Servant Seeker… Jeanne d'Arc, has answered your summons. But I ask you… Are you my Master?" The woman who calls herself Seeker or rather Jeanne has introduced herself, but as well as asking him the question is she is his Master. Those words flowed into his mind as if he's remembering but… he had to answer in order to save those in front of them.
"Yes… I am your Master. Please, protect the others and kill the beast!" The Viator answered as he commanded Jeanne to do something. And thus, she nodded with a soft smile.
"Then the contract is final. My flag shall be your weapon and my will is yours to command. With it, the Lord's blessing is with us. Please let me handle it from here, Master!" Jeanne then readies herself as the burst of wind propels her into battle. The werewolf chimera engaged in combat as Jeanne's flagged spear allowed her to keep her distance to fight on such an equal par. The Viator rushed to their side as he helped Chloe and Maisha up.
"Are you two okay?" The Viator asked the two.
"I'm fine… But nevermind that… you just summoned a Servant… Unbelievable." Chloe said as she looked at Seeker and the Chimera fighting against each other as the Holy Maiden continued to apply pressure with slash attacks from the distance.
"Not to mention, she even called herself Seeker… Is this a new class? I don't believe that exists unless… Perhaps it has to do with you?" Maisha then looked at him as he seemed confused. All he wanted was to help those who were on the edge of defeat.
"All of you, please focus on the enemy. We must defeat it together!" Percival said to the three as he dashed into battle to assist her with a thrust attack which the Chimera dodged backward. "Are you harmed?"
"I am not. Thank you for your concern but… It appears the enemy before us isn't willing to give up…" Jeanne said as she remained a composed but stoic expression as the Chimera began to gather enough prana to become twice as powerful. Then, the moment strikes as the Chimera dashes towards them in order to kill the Servants.
"Jeanne!" The Viator shouted her name as his Servant began to gather enough prana around her…
"O flag of mine… Protect my comrades!" Jeanne proceeds to twirl her flagpole as she prepares herself to release what's called… a Noble Phantasm. "Luminosite Eternelle!"
Janne slams her flagpole as it shined upon them as they covered themselves from the flash of light. However, it provided warmth as they were inside the barrier of light. The Chimera struggled to penetrate its claw into her barrier as it proved no use. This allowed Percival to finish it off quickly…
"Checkmate, fiend…!" Percival then thrusted his spear into the Chimera's neck as it effectively killed the beast for good. With the barrier disappearing due to Jeanne having seemingly overusing it which slightly exhausted her. As the corpse of a Chimera elite begins to fade away, the Viator rushed to her side and checked on her.
"Jeanne… Are you okay?" The Master of Seeker asked her with concern as she looked back at her Master.
"A-Ahh… I'm simply tired from using it, is all. But rest assured that I'm okay." Jeanne replied as he helped her stand on her own two feet. The clouds began to part as everything was normal again… pure blue skies. And the barrier caused by the Coral Field is gone as a result.
"Tell me about it." Chloe continued as she approached the two. "But nevermind that, I never knew you'd be capable of summoning a Servant here in this world. Let alone trying to form a pact with a Masterless Servant."
"What do you mean by 'Masterless Servant'?" The Viator asked as this was his first time hearing about it.
"Oh, you haven't heard since you've woken in the gorge. I suppose it wouldn't hurt to explain." Chloe then continues as she remains a calm composure as she explains this concept. "Ever since the world had already collapsed 150 years ago by the unstoppable Chimeras. Alaya, the Counter Force, and Gaia are no longer here. As well as the Throne releasing every hero into this world. Of course, all Servants had already forgotten about the Grail as well as their sole purpose when there was a Holy Grail War at the time. But that changed, the Grail still exists… but it's no longer there. I don't know why or how… Not even our Majesty King Artoria knows about it. And of course, the whole planet acts as a bottomless and yet infinite supply of magical leyline that allowed them to remain in this world for years and counting. Now to answer your question about how we humans form a pact with Masterless Servants? This is your answer."
Chloe takes off one of her gauntlets and reveals her right back hand that shows her Command Seal, however… It's completely different compared to the Viator, whose Command Seal is in the shape of wings. Maisha walked forward as she was willing to explain further as mentioned by Chloe before.
"It's true, forming a pact with Servants isn't easy in the world as it requires us to obtain magic circuits albeit… in a different method. Chloe is the latest knight to form a pact with Sir Percival… as well as claiming the seat at the Round Table as a result." Maisha said as Chloe nodded.
"She's correct. I've been part of Camelot's military for four years and counting due to my valor and honorable acts that granted me an audience with the King. Not only that, I was given a great privilege to form a pact with one of the Round Table Servants like Percival, including claiming the seat as well." Chloe continued as she looked at Viator's Servant. "Now then… Jeanne d'Arc, yes? You said your class is Seeker?"
"That is correct." Jeanne continued. "I am bound to my young Master here due to his unwavering conviction."
"But this Seeker class… I've never heard of it. Yet, it seems impossible. I thought the Throne released every single Servant but… How?" Percival spoke as he tried to perceive this situation.
"Honestly, I do not know. Perhaps I'm considered an anomaly. But when I heard my Master's call, I couldn't help but answer it and be by his side.
However, Chloe and Maisha's Terminal Slate begins to blip as the screen turns bright blue as the knights quickly bring it out to check.
"Oh thank the Avalon… The signal is back. Now we can contact the rest of the group now that it's over. Wait… This is… Chloe? Sir Percival? This message… comes from the King directly!" Maisha informs them.
"Play it. I want to hear what's going on. This must be a holographic message to all of Camelot from Castle Avalon." Chloe said to her as Maisha proceeded to tap on the screen as the slate proceeded to create a projection of a life-sized figure who was seen standing there. To the Viator's eyes, he watched to see what's going on.
A beautiful, mature grown up woman as her figure was tall and curvaceous. She wore a gold crown over her tied hair in a bun, which looks notably longer. She was donned in a blue dress with a revealing cleavage and a red cloak. She had emerald eyes as if it was brimming with life. And of course, her kind expression was shown on her face as she placed her left hand to her chest as she spoke as if it appeared to be a holographic message of some sort.
"My fellow soldiers and citizens, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused. I am Artoria Pendragon, the King of Camelot." The figure known as Artoria continues to speak. "As the [Avalon Festival] approaches, our lustrous city welcomes visitors from around the world. The festivities are highly anticipated by our people, and I, too, share in this joyful sentiment. The Grand Capital of Camelot has always been a crucial defense against the Chimera Outbreaks, safeguarding this very nation. We have a heavy responsibility on our sounders with no room for retreat or failure should we intend to bring peace."
Both the Viator and Jeanne were somehow moved by Artoria's words as this interested them regarding the approach of the Avalon Festival that she has mentioned about. But, they all continue to listen to her message.
"It is the dedication of our warriors, along with the diligence of our citizens, that has allowed us to thrive in peace and prosperity. Despite the challenges of Chimeras and foreign adversaries, we remain steadfast and hospitable to visitors, upholding our enduring traditions. With that in mind, I have a favor to ask." Artoria continued as she approached them but… she was walking towards the Viator with interest before stopping to keep at her distance. "Among our many visitors, there is one visitor that piqued my interest, the Kingdom of Camelot, and the entirety of this continent… We have awaited your arrival for a long time. Given the circumstances, you may be feeling bewildered at this time. You should have noticed some strange happenings related to you regarding your existence. If you plan to stay in Camelot for some time, I would be more than delighted to personally meet you in my castle's audience chambers of Camelot. While I cannot guarantee to provide all the answers you need, I will do my best to assist you and provide necessary permissions, if applicable. This is only my personal request. You can decide your course of action in any way you see fit. Therefore, I request the people and soldiers of Camelot to assist this esteemed visitor when the opportunity rises."
As the projection of Artoria disappears, everyone present here was entirely shocked.
"N-No way… Our Majesty was… Our Majesty was talking to you, Viator!" Maisha stammered upon this revelation of what the message meant.
"Me?" The Viator said in confusion.
"There's no denying it, Viator." Percival continued. "Our Majesty has taken great interest in you when you first arrived here regarding your abilities of summoning Seeker to your side. Not only that, it is considered a great honor of prestige to meet Our Majesty in person. You should accept her blessings, no less."
"Percival is right." Chloe continued. "King Artoria is kind and brave, willing to protect the citizens within the white walls of the kingdom itself against formidable foes such as the Chimeras. But regardless, we'll escort you to the main castle where Our Majesty resides."
"Trust us, it's better if we can take you there. You'll never know when an ambush might attack us soon but… at least Percival is here to protect us, right?" Maisha said to the Lance-wielding knight as he chuckled.
"Do not worry, Lady Maisha. We'll definitely bring the Viator to the kingdom. Now then, have you made up your mind?" Percival then asked the two as he pondered.
"Master, I suggest we should meet this King Artoria if I say so myself. Perhaps this will help you find the answers you need, after all. So we shouldn't turn them down." Jeanne suggested him the most logical choice as he nodded.
"Sure." The Viator replied as he looked at Percival. "I want to meet your king."
"Well said. Now then, let's be off. To Camelot we go." Percival then proceeded to summon forth his white steed as he got on. The group proceeds to make their way to the path where the Kingdom of Camelot resides.
Castle Gates, Kingdom of Camelot Afternoon - Clear Sky
As the journey to the kingdom took about ten minutes at most. Percival had already gotten off his horse as it disappeared. Of course, there were two guards donned in armor with diamond-shaped helmets on their head as they wielded swords and shields. The Viator and Jeanne looked up to see how tall the white walls are here at the castle gate entrance of Camelot itself.
"Surprised?" Morgan continued. "The Kingdom itself has a Bounded Field set up thanks to the Magus of Flowers to help deal with the Chimera Outbreaks and the Inversal Rain. So rest assured, they'll always feel safe here."
"I remember the time when the court mage himself was a womanizer and our Majesty had to go punish him for it… lightly. I suppose him going to some sort of a brothel is never a good idea for him anyways. Ahem… Now then, if you'll excuse me. I'll have to converse with the guards to give us a safe passage into the kingdom." Percival then handles this on his own as the group watches how he would talk with the guards. "Greetings, guardsmen. Mind opening the gate for us? We have returned from our scouting duty."
"Understood, Sir Percival. We'll do as you command. Open the gates!" The guard saluted back at Percival as the large gates began to open slowly as it would fully reveal itself of what's beyond the gate. To what the Viator's eyes were was beyond astonishing.
With the group standing at the entrance, there was the bustling main street filled with people going about their usual but daily lives here. There was even a large fountain which appears to be located in the central plaza where the statue of Artoria Pendragon was erected since she is meant to be a sign of hope. Of course, there were white pristine buildings there as it served for shopping or living purposes. But not only that, the buildings were even using modern technology that came from a world previous prior to the world's desolation caused by the Chimeras. Holographic signs, advertisements, etc. This is the Kingdom of Camelot.
"Like it, Viator and Lady Jeanne?" Percival continued with a smile on his face. "I welcome you to our grand kingdom of Camelot, home to the Knights of the Round Table."
"You are too kind, Sir Percival." Jeanne gently bows at him with courtesy before looking at her Master. "Master, should we go meet with the King?"
"Might as well. I do need answers for sure." The Viator replied as Chloe nudged his shoulder before walking their way inside.
"I'm sure you'll get the answers you'll need. Let's go, you two. The King awaits your audience.~" Chloe said with a smile as the two would follow them inside the kingdom in order to meet with Artoria.
But as soon as Viator stopped for a moment. He sensed something the moment he turned around… but where? He feels like he's being watched but there was no one. Or rather he has a bad feeling with this premonition regarding it. The Viator remained stoic and calm as he continued to look from behind…
"Master, are you coming?" Jeanne called her as the Viator turned around and decided to catch up with them and forget about it.
But meanwhile, far from the kingdom itself here in the United Kingdom of Camelot… A mysterious individual who wore a brown hooded robe as he looked down upon the kingdom when he looked at the Viator. His face was obscured by the shadow as well. And so, he spoke.
"At last, the last chess piece is set… Thus, I have finally found you… Fatebreaker…"
[TO BE CONTINUED…]
Author's Notes: Hello everyone, thank you for reading this chapter. This Fate story I've been working on is considered to be the most different and unique story I have made this far. And suffice to say, it took a lot of risk in trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together to create the world and its rich lore of this mysterious world. Sure, taking inspiration from open world gacha games was the basis of course. This chapter is only scratching the surface since it focuses on the introduction to the world and characters. The next chapter will focus more on the lore side of things to help better explain what the world of Birthscion Genesis is all about… and perhaps the Viator might get a new name in the process? Who knows. But again, please look forward to this story. However, I am considering crossposting it to AO3 but it is highly unlikely at this point so I don't know. But yeah, look forward to more of this story. Until then, take care!
Explanations
[Question 1: Is the world that you created based on the real world in terms of the land layouts?]
Answer: Yes, but no. The world I've created is meant to be completely different as if it's like a fantasy world… but minus the fantasy. The lands I came up with are based on the land layouts like how the United Kingdom is there on the north and France on the south. So I wanted the idea to mash and connect some of the lands to create something different. The only thing I want to create is a world that is a "mirror" to the world we live in today.
[Question 2: Why did Jeanne d'Arc call herself Seeker? That type of Class shouldn't even exist nor why it's there in the first place?]
Answer: The Viator is a unique character in a sense. The reason why I came up with the idea of the Seeker is because it represents a sense of duty, to find the answer regarding himself and the world. And the Servant being called Seeker is the answer to the Viator's reason. Jeanne herself is the type of person who would help him find those answers. Before I landed on the idea of the Seeker, Jeanne was originally going to be a Ruler. But it proved a lot of problems and set of challenges for me because the world's premise I went for is all about seven nations ruled by seven Grand Servants so it wouldn't make sense and feels out of the picture. Ultimately, that was when I made my decision to change Jeanne's initial class to Ruler to Seeker.
[Question 3: What was the inspiration for this Fate story, exactly? Could you at least name a few?]
Answer: I'd be happy to. The world and initial premise was heavily based on ATLUS' upcoming RPG game from the creators of Shin Megami Tensei and Persona series, Metaphor: ReFantazio as the main inspiration. Not only that, there were other inspirations on another Fate story that I hope it'll get updated is called Fate: Oppression. Gavius, if you're reading this. I'm hopefully looking forward to what you're cooking up on your next arc. Back to the topic, yes, the story was based on where the world is thrown into chaos where a "Holy Grail War" is set all over the world, releasing every single Heroic Spirits from the Throne. That's why I wanted to create a story based on the two to create a mysterious world where Chimeras wander the ravaged lands and seven nations existing.
-[Glossary Series No.1]-
[Classless Servants - Topic]
Description: Servants that were released by the Throne all over the world were given no class at all as a result. Thus, they were forced upon themselves to use their True Names instead. However, they cannot simply call themselves in one of the seven class names as "the voices" would never permit them unless one of the Grand Servants dies.
[Seven Grand Servants - Topic]
Description: After the Chimera's invasion of Earth during the midst of the Sixth Holy Grail War, the Seven Servants who were summoned to participate in this war have set aside their differences and later on returning to their respective homelands to help protect humanity in a newly changed but ravaged world where humanity is on a brink of extinction after the Throne releases all Heroic Spirits. Only seven Grand Servants of their respective class names can only exist at the same time. Should one of them die, another would be willing to take its place.
[Chimeras - Topic]
Description: Magical Beasts that first appeared in the year 2032 that attacked humanity without reason during the midst of the Sixth Holy Grail War. Modern weaponry such as firearms, tanks, and missiles are deemed ineffective as they cannot be harmed. However, they can only be killed by conventional weapons powered by magic or Heroic Spirits. The strength and capabilities are similar to a Heroic Spirit but on a lesser scale. But it was said that Chimera feeds off people's feelings of anxiety. A single person cannot fight a single or group of Chimeras alone as it is considered extremely dangerous. A group of Adventurers or a Master with a Servant is required to fight them head on.
[Inversal Rain - Topic]
Description: A strange phenomenon that involves the droplets of rain either suspended in mid air or flowing upwards into the sky. However, it is capable of creating Coral Fields by an extremely rare chance. The Inversal Rain does not affect the person but it creates an illusion and hallucinations that recreates memories of the Old World by the planet if one intends to remain in the rain for far too long. However, the Inversal Rain can also cause Chimera to become rampant and loss of rationality. Travelers and Adventurers must tread carefully whenever an Inversal Rain happens. If a rain is falling downwards, then it is considered as normal rain that has no effects at all. A Bounded Field, for example, can negate Inversal Rain.
[United Kingdom of Camelot - World]
Nations: Kingdom of Camelot, Empire of Roma, and Kingdom of Frankia
Main Capital: Camelot
Continent: Arvess
Description: A continent that was once ruled by three nations. However, it would be later annexed into one thanks to Artoria's unification to help band together against the Chimera.
[The Viator - Character]
Age: 17
Servant: Seeker/Jeanne d'Arc
Description: A young man who woke up in the Mysidia Gorge with no memories of how he got here as he has no knowledge of the world itself. Gifted with the Golden Command Seal by an unknown entity, he is capable of summoning his Servant Seeker in order to repel an Elite Chimera attack. In order to learn more about the world, he decided to set off on a journey with his Servant to find out who he is and learn the answers about this world… and perhaps his purpose, too.
[Jeanne d'Arc - Character]
Class: Seeker
Master: Viator
Description: A Heroic Spirit summoned by the Viator under the Seeker class which is considered unique and not known. Her true identity is the Holy Maiden of Saint Orleans herself, Jeanne d'Arc. Equipped with a flagpole and a shortsword. She is calm, kind, and cool whenever she is in combat. But is shown to have friendliness towards her Master and anyone. However, she is willing to assist Viator through every step of the way to help him find his purpose in this world.
[Artoria Pendragon - Character]
Class: Grand Saber of Camelot
Master: UNKNOWN
Description: The current ruler of the United Kingdom of Camelot who resides at the Grand Capital Camelot. Not only that, she is the leader of the Knights of the Round Table that Percival is part of. But it is unclear who her Master is.
