The next day, Andrew and Daniel walked back to Andrew's apartment after their classes had ended. The afternoon sun was casting long shadows, and the campus was buzzing with students eager to start their weekend. They made their way through the familiar streets, talking about their day and upcoming assignments.
As they entered the apartment, Andrew tossed his backpack onto the couch and headed to the kitchen. "You want anything to drink? I've got soda, water, and some iced tea."
Daniel plopped down on the couch, stretching out with a sigh. "Iced tea sounds good, thanks."
Andrew grabbed two glasses and filled them with ice and iced tea, bringing them over to the living room. He handed one to Daniel and sat down next to him. "Man, I'm glad the week is over. It feels like it's been a long one."
Daniel nodded, taking a sip of his drink. "Tell me about it. But at least we made it through. And hey, we've got the whole weekend to relax."
Andrew smiled, leaning back. "Yeah, we do. You know, I've been thinking a lot about how far we've come since Little Hope. It's crazy to think about everything that's happened."
Daniel's expression softened. "Yeah, it is. We've been through so much together. It's weird to think about how we started as classmates and now… well, I consider you my best friend."
Andrew looked at Daniel, his eyes reflecting the same sentiment. "Same here. I mean, we were just thrown together by chance, but now I can't imagine going through all this without you."
There was a comfortable silence between them as they both reflected on their journey. Andrew cleared his throat, a bit nervously. "You know, I've been thinking… we get along really well, and we're always hanging out. What if you moved in here? We could split the rent and it'd be like having a permanent hangout spot."
Daniel's eyes widened in surprise, but a smile quickly spread across his face. "Are you serious? That sounds amazing! I mean, I practically live here already with how much time we spend together."
Andrew grinned. "Exactly. Plus, we'd save money and it'd be awesome to have my best friend as a roommate. So, what do you say?"
Daniel didn't hesitate. "I'm in. Let's do it."
They clinked their glasses together in a mock toast, both of them laughing. The decision felt right, like the natural next step in their friendship.
Andrew got up and went over to his speaker system. "You know what this calls for? A celebration. How about we dance to our favorite song from Taylor Swift's Reputation album?"
Daniel's face lit up. "Yes! Put on '...Ready For It?' That song always gets me pumped."
Andrew nodded and quickly found the song on his playlist. The powerful opening beats filled the room, and both of them started dancing around the living room, laughing and letting loose. The energy of the music seemed to wash away the stress of the week, leaving only joy and camaraderie.
As the song played, they danced with abandon, their movements becoming more and more exaggerated and goofy. Andrew spun around, pretending to be on stage, while Daniel did an over-the-top air guitar solo.
When the song ended, they collapsed onto the couch, breathless and laughing. "That was awesome," Andrew said, still catching his breath.
Daniel nodded, a big smile on his face. "Yeah, it was. I can't wait for us to be roommates. It's going to be epic."
They spent the rest of the evening talking about how they'd rearrange the apartment to make room for Daniel's stuff and planning future adventures together. The excitement of their new arrangement added a fresh sense of anticipation and joy to their friendship.
Later, as they sat on the couch watching a movie, Andrew turned to Daniel, his expression thoughtful. "You know, we've come a long way since that night in Little Hope. I'm really glad we made it through together. You're not just my best friend—you're like family to me."
Daniel smiled, his eyes warm. "I feel the same way. We've been through the worst, and now we're building something great. Here's to more adventures, more laughs, and a lot of Taylor Swift."
Andrew raised his glass in agreement. "To us."
They clinked their glasses again, both of them knowing that whatever the future held, they would face it together, stronger and closer than ever.
