Another Training session was completed by Lori and Lincoln. The white-haired boy was getting the hang of the superhero kind of lifestyle, and Lori was getting more proud of him as his skills were improving. As expected, Both siblings were sweating from the immense training they had done underground. But, they had sweat rags with them, and wiped every drop of sweat all over their bodies. "That was literally quite a workout." Lori panted. "That had to be the most intense training. My arms are starting to feel sore like i was lifting weights."
"Is it me, or is it hotter than yesterday?"
"I don't feel anything, Lincoln." Lori admitted. "Maybe because... because i already have fire powers in me and heat doesn't have effect on me." she realized
"You're right." Lincoln said, before feeling more sweat leave his body. "Feel like I need to be in a cold pool."
"Well, we still have the kiddie pool in the shed." Lori pointed.
Lincoln remembered and brought out "Paradise-for-one" pool he purchased before a long while ago. It took a while to inflate the thing, but when it was fully inflated, Lori grabbed the house to fill the kiddie pool up with soothing water.
"Here you go, Lincoln." Lori smiled.
"Thanks Lori."
"Don't mention it." The oldest sister smiled. She went inside to fetch herself some ice-cold lemonade after that, and decided that she should join Lincoln in that little pool (despite it being said: Recommended for ONE person). Getting the water in the small pool was a hassle for Lincoln as much as it is inflating it into shape. But the heat was starting to become unbearable for him, and the humidity was not making it any better. In most cases, humid heat is a hundred times worse than dry heat, especially if one lives in the Southeast part of the United States.
At last, when Lincoln filled the pool with water, he changed into his swimming trunks in the bathroom and enjoyed himself in the nice, cold, soothing water in the kiddie pool on this hot day. It was like the hot feeling in him was going away immediately with the water brushing against his skin.
He heard the sound of his back door opening and it revealed to be Lori in her swimsuit, walking down the steps of the porch and stopped in front of the pool. "Mind if i join you, Lincoln?"
"Nope. Go ahead." Lincoln smiled back at her. He scooted over, and his grateful big sister laid on the pool with him to relax. "So Lori,"
"Hmm?"
"Do you imagine what it would be like if Bobby became a superhero and he got superpowers somehow?"
Lori let out a small chuckle. "Lincoln, i literally dream about that every single day ever since i got powers." she let out a dreamy sigh as she was wondering what it would be like having Bobby as a superhero fighting crime alongside her. "Though i literally wonder what powers Bobby would have."
"Well, it can't be ice because fire melts ice." Lincoln pointed as he took a sip of his lemonade.
"Right, that's true." Lori realized. "But it would be a bad idea if he had water powers since water beats fire."
"another good point." The white-haired boy took another sip of his drink. "Maybe something that has to do with electricity. That might blend well with fire without any problems."
"Well, this is just a what-if scenario, Lincoln." Lori pointed. "Not saying it can actually happen."
"Oh, I know, Lori. I know that. Just thought of how cool it would be."
"You and me both, little bro. You and me both."
"So are you still worried about me getting hurt out there in the field while fighting bad guys with you?"
"Well... not as much as I once was. But I do worry about you still. You are my only brother, and I love you. along with our sisters."
"I know. But reading a lot of Ace Savvy and David Steele comics, I think I got this one in the bag."
"and playing video games and watching the action movies." Lori reminded him
"Yep." Lincoln smirked.
Suddenly, Lori's phone rang. "Hold on, let me take this." She picked it up. "Hi Dana. What's going on?" As her friend was talking, Lori began to frown on her face. "What? People are getting sick at bakeries?"
Lincoln looked at Lori hearing that.
"Huh, that's literally weird. Ok, yeah, yeah. I'll get Volcano Girl and Laser Boy on it. Thanks Dana."
"What's going on?"
"Many people are getting sick at many bakeries for some reason. Something about food poisoning, and many people ending up in the hospital."
"Oh no." Lincoln said. "That's terrible."
"And weird. Don't forget weird."
"Right. Guess our pool time is cut short."
"I guess you're right, Lincoln." She got out of the pool. "Time to put on our super suits."
At the hospital
Lori and Lincoln, in their superhero outfits, looked surprised at how many people landed in the emergency rooms like this. There were many cases of food poisoning, explosive and bloody diarrhea, and in a few cases, botulism.
men, women, children, there was no telling how many were in here when it comes to the correct number.
Looking concerned, Lori went up to the nurse at the counter, and asked: "excuse me, what happened here?"
"Volcano Girl! Thank goodness you're here. It's terrible! Many people have been coming here from eating poisoned baked goods in countless bakeries." an man came in the hospital entrance, and immediately threw up some cupcake bits from his mouth. "See what i mean? It's horrible."
"And we've got our work cut out for this." said the second nurse. "Stuff like this hasn't happened since the Spanish Sheep plague of 1939."
"OK, just tell us everything." Lori said. "Tell me everything you can."
"Well, you have permission to talk to the patients that have just entered here." said the first nurse. "Just ask the administrator first."
